I think I want to marry northernlurker

Unprune · 10/10/2010 19:22

foxytocin I am going to take issue with your use of the statistic about it costing the NHS £35million to deal with infant respiratory and gastric infections.

I am sure I don't have to point out that even if all children are fed on nothing but breastmilk straight from the mother's breast, that figure would not disappear. Have you looked into how much lower it might go, and if so, what are your sources?

violethill · 10/10/2010 19:22

I bf dd 1 and gave her bottles of ebm- didn't undermine her ability to bf whatsoever !

Unprune · 10/10/2010 19:23

However I do think it's a bit of a fail.
Better off not to have any picture to do with feeding.

piscesmoon · 10/10/2010 19:25

Keep the baby out of sight until she is an adult-someone will judge whatever they do or don't do! I am very, very relieved that I am not in the public eye and and have to see everything for the message that it might be giving!

funkychunkymunky · 10/10/2010 19:26

Oh FFS leave them alone! It's each person's choice how they feed their child. Get off your fucking high horse and stop judging people. How do you know that she didn't try BFing but couldn't? Do you know anything about her? FFS threads like this really piss me off. I tried and could not feed my baby. Should I have let her starve rather than give her formula??? Oh what a fucking bad mother I must be. So fucking shoot us all.

Rollmops · 10/10/2010 19:32

Disagree. There are enough quilt trips thrown upon mothers by the militant BF lobby, enough is enough!
Some mothers BF, some FF, some do both. ALL do the best they can.
Some can not BF, they have to FF. Leave them alone, have some empathy!
Some don't want to, have respect for their decisions.
DC is a father who was photographed feeding his new baby. He's also a PM. Judge him by the work he does.

violethill · 10/10/2010 19:32

(round of applause for funkychunkymonkey)

A good day's work OP.

You have tried very hard to alienate hundreds of thousands of mothers, whether they bf, bottle feed or combine the two.

Oh and you've also had a pop at 'cack handed' dads who take care of their children.

Well done. Your family must be so proud to call you mum.

piscesmoon · 10/10/2010 19:33

I'm sure that it is insecurity and people feel the it is an insurance policy as in 'I was a wonderful parent, I got everything right, I never used a bottle and therefore my DC will grow up to be a bright, well balanced adult'.
Unfortunately life isn't like that!

I can't imagine why anyone is remotely interested!

Rollmops · 10/10/2010 19:35

Last post was response to Xenia, I Iz such a slow typer....

NotanOtter · 10/10/2010 19:37

NON judgemntal comment to follow
I did think her boobs looked small

EdgarAllInPink · 10/10/2010 19:39

this picture is a political stunt that has nothing to do with any woman's choice, unless DC's press secretary is female...

and should be judged as such. why aren't people being more cynical about this?

NickOfTime · 10/10/2010 19:41

lol, ds1 was exclusively bf and ended up with double pneumonia at 11 weeks. he was then excl bf until 10mos, and was quite the poorliest of the three.

dd1 was the healthiest, and was mix-fed after about 4 mos as she was a nosey boot.

with dd2 i was unable to bf as she had no suck/ swallow/ gag. my ebm looked uncannily like that swilling round in the photo about 70% of the time - the rest was bluer and thinner looking.

i honestly don't give a hoot whether florence is ff or bf, or what.

fortunately i only read pg 1 and pg 10, as the subject is of no other interest to me but to prove what nosey judgemental numpties some folk are.

piscesmoon · 10/10/2010 19:43

I don't see the need to be either judgemental or cynical. I don't think that anyone is so 'perfect' that they have the right to criticise.

NotanOtter · 10/10/2010 19:46

lol Nick

DS1 was allegedly breast FED

he starved

funkychunkymunky · 10/10/2010 19:50

Thank you Violet Smile

DD was only BF for 3 weeks. She is now 11 months. She has never had a chest infection, only 1 case of diarrhoea which was 2 months ago when she was mainly on solids and not much milk.

KristinaM · 10/10/2010 19:51

I have little time for politicians in general and Tories in particular

But I think many commenst on this thread are very mean spirited

It takes TREMENDOUS courage to have another baby after caring for and losing an older child. All the money and connections in the world doesn't make up for that

nancydrewrocked · 10/10/2010 19:52

I believe the photo op was a "political stunt" in so far as it was designed to show DC as a doting hands on dad who is not afraid to pitch in and help with womens work on a day when he was inevitably going to be accused of being anti family, anti child.

However those who think it was a deliberate expression of preference over feeding method clearly spend waaaaaaaaaaaaay to much time on MN - the rest of the country don't actually give a fuck about how the rest of the population feed their babies. They really don't.

Portofino · 10/10/2010 19:55

I am very glad I didn't MN when dd was born. I always assumed that I would BF but despite much effort - nothing doing. Why mothers would attempt to lay such guilt on others in beyond me! I have said it before - everyone knows that breast is best - the message is inescapable if you go through the birth process. Just leave it and mind your own fecking business!

Couldn't care less how the damn baby is being fed, just sooooooooooo fed up of seeing pictures of her-oh and DC doing the doting dad act.

Still not forgiving you Dave for taking my CB,CTC and for penalising me and my family for not being married.

How low can you go,the baby isn't even 6 moths and I'm loosing count of how often she's trotted out to give DC a shinier image.

And sorry she's not even cute-my babies were waaaaaaay cuter-and bottle fed op.Wink

expatinscotland · 10/10/2010 20:51

Oh, I do think she is a very cute baby.

scottishmummy · 10/10/2010 20:52

what a fucking stupid post op.and your point is what.

the majority of babies are ff - best get used to seeing plenty more bottles around.and if it really gets yer goat best avoid Starbucks,Costa,Nero. oh in fact stay indoors and fume

nameymcnamechange · 10/10/2010 20:54

lol sm.

Hullygully · 10/10/2010 20:54

Why is everyone so cross with the OP?

It's an interesting photo on loads of levels. You really think anything the Camerons do isn't political? The photo is well worth deconstructing politically. It's fascinating.
