Everyone welcome!

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As we are coverning more ground, to avoid confusion, I'll be posting links early in the morning on the relevant day.

Good luck!

Hi All - it's so busy here, not sure I can keep up!

CTGH many thanks for making me feel so welcome and getting us organised.

The sink is still clean despite DH and DS's best efforts over the weekend, I'm not so much complaining about the amount of cleaning they generate - it's all good honest eating and fun, I just don't want to do it in my lovely sink. Perhaps I could have a spare so I can keep the kitchen one lovely and sparking! (AlexD drifts of into a daydream where there this house has a utility room...)

eatincakealot · 04/10/2009 15:04

hi! could i too join in. was doing so well for so many months and then i had my finals and it went downhill from there!
i will be starting as of tomorrow morning as i have been ill and will firstly have to deal with the backlog of sicky things which need disinfecting! which unfortuantely are mainly in my bedroom.
the other thing that now hinders progress is the fact my Ds no longer attends nursery and i cant get a place untill january! plus also have morning sickness ( of an evening!)
anyway will join you all first thing in the morning!

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/10/2009 15:25

Oh dear! Poor you Eatincakealot (my kind of nickname )! Sounds as though you have a lot on your plate at the moment (no pun intended). Hope you start to feel better soon and congratulations on your pregnancy. Of course you can join! We are all very obsessed and wierd friendly on here ... See you in the morning!

My pleasure Drake. My dh is a good cook - and although I love eating the results - I'm not so keen on the mess. I often fantasise about adjoining houses a la Helen Bonham Carter... never mind separate rooms .

Shoppingveggie · 04/10/2009 16:50

Thank you CTGH - much better now.

Done lots of washing and now have a huge pile of ironing to do, that I may try and do whilst watching the x factor tonight.

Am going to start the new week with gusto, have two hours before I need to be at work tomorrow morning so aim to do the following before I go:

Empty dishwasher
Clear kitchen
Clear hallway
Put all washing away
Put wash on and hang up

On Tuesday I have "treated" myself to a chiropody appointment - she comes to your house, so I will have lots of jobs for Tuesday!

Well done to everyone - will also start to de-clutter this week.

paranoiabigdestroyer · 04/10/2009 17:04

CTGH - watch those flowers - mind they don't wilt and start leaving a mess next to your computer.

My sink is still shiny but there is no way I will be putting post it notes on the bathroom mirror reminding me to get dressed, put shoes on and do sink. I intend to remain firmly in the closet regarding my flying, so I shall write this in a secret diary instead.

Today I have "masterminded" the ironing i.e. started - so I'll finish...later.

Need to: make supper, do packed lunches and DS's school bag with him, write shopping list for tomorrow's weekly Sainsbury run.

...and wipe up DS2's baby vomit which he has just spewed all over me and the sofa.

Perhaps I'll have a bath!

optimisticmumma · 04/10/2009 18:13

Just quickly flying by....

Feeling a need to clarify...when I 'came out' it was a very OM version of what was happening. There's NO WAY I'd let DH actually see the flylady site . The advantage is, however, he and DC have cleaned up after the roast including putting everything away which is a result I can tell you..

Am venturing back to work tomorrow so no flying until afterwards...

Have a great week everyone

walkthedinosaur · 04/10/2009 18:37

Helloo everyone, wow this thread runs really quickly, just skimmed through the last few posts so hope everyone is well and still flying.

Well DH came home Friday morning, walked into the house with all my shopping I'd instructed him to get me from Tesco, you have no idea how much I miss Yorkshire Tea, Crumpets and Heinz tomato soup. So boxes and bags were deposited in the kitchen, then 5 mins later the postman delivered a huge box with new headlights for my car which is now sitting in the hall and then we went out and bought a new fridge and freezer which sat overnight in the dining room, so by the time we found our feet and had chance for a sit down, the house looked like a tip again, Still he's got rid of the old fridge for me and the new appliances are up and running so that got rid of their boxes. Flying must be catching because he spent all day yesterday having a huge declutter of the garage - after about three tip runs it's even looking presentable in there. He's gone back to the UK now so I'll just have to keep flying until next weekend when he's home again.

I've actually had the nerve to spend 30 mins this afternoon in DS1's bedroom trying to fumigate declutter some of the crap, I've decided I'd love to build a pyre of Top Trumps and Pokemon cards and burn the buggers. Wish I could do the same with marbles!

Well hope everybody has had a good weekend, I'm off to drink a large glass of wine, do some ironing and watch House!

See you all tomorrow for another week of flying.

MiniMarmite · 04/10/2009 19:29

Hi Everyone

Hope you all had great weekends. The thread is moving so fast again so I've skim read today's posts.

We've been out most of the day and DH is still out (at a lovely Chinese Wedding Banquet ). Had a few trials this evening - cat sick on hall rug (great with evening 'morning' sickness), miniMM poo'd in bath, miniMM wee'd on bedroom carpet...do haven't got much done really other than cleaning up the obvious!

Welcome Eatincakealot, you sound busy! Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Bless you WTD, I'm sure DH must have noticed that everything looked wonderful around the fridge etc! Poor you that he's had to go away again

Elliepac - LOL re swords reappearing. I guess sometimes you have to come to terms with the fact that sometimes things just 'live' in places that maybe you think they shouldn't. In our house this applies to DH's camera bag which seems to live behind and armchair!

So joining you in the utility room fantasy AlexD and well done on your run HavingAG and Droitwichmum on your curtain hanging.

Well done on all your progress everyone - I'm sure I've missed loads of your achievements in my quick read.

Have a good evening

elliepac · 04/10/2009 19:33

evening, just checking in so i don't miss too much

WTD sounds like you've had a busy weekend...bet it was nice to have DH at home.

OM...can you imagine if we showed our DH's the flylady website and they realised that we were being indoctrinated by a 'fat fairy' and that when she says jump, we say how high. .

shoppingveggie glad you are feeling better. I can never be bothered to do anything before i go to work so am impressed by your industry.

eatincakealot sounds like you've had a tough time. Good luck with the clear up. Morning sickness sucks doesn't it...i used to get it in the evening as well.

Drake if you can have a spare sink, can i have a spare house..one where my living room does not look like toysrus, my kitchen hasn't got a hole in the ceiling and where there is definitely no clutter. In fact one where DH and DC's are only allowed to visit for set hours and the rest of the time i can spend reading books, watching trashy tv uninterrupted and drinking wine

Have done sod all this afternoon. Went to see a very dear friend for a couple of hours, cooked dinner and cleared away and am now settling down ready for the x-factor.

Have a good week one and all.

elliepac · 04/10/2009 19:36

minimarmite x-posted with you. I think you have had to deal with far too much body fluid for one person in one day

Shoppingveggie · 04/10/2009 19:42

ellepac don't be too impressed, I'm not due in til 11am (and I haven't actually done it yet!)

Although, I have just tidied up our dining room..... because I have just bought a floor lamp (eyes failing me when reading bedtime stories) so the little lamp that was on the table is not needed there anymore - so I thought it would look nice on the unit in the dining room.

However this unit had a Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts Express and a Lego Star Wars Jaba Sail Barge dominating it, so I got loads of sandwich bags and dismantled the lot (very theraputic!) therefore making space for the lamp.

I then cleared the dining room table (don't think me an angel, I just dumped it all in a box to sort later) and put some fresh lillies in the middle - looks lovely - why oh why can't I keep it like this????

tibni · 04/10/2009 19:48

CTGH - they have not shortlisted yet but have started the process. I already work on a casual contract at the school and have been asked to go in for a few hours this week so will have to listen at a few doors!

I can not do the post it notes! Too untidy! But I am toying with the idea of actually doing a control journal this month. Some areas of the house are much better thanks to flylady but I certainly don't feel in control!

Monday will be busy! Ds family support worker coming at 9.30am. Not very happy with her as she didn't pass on information about holiday activities he could have done (he has ASD). Then I have said I will try and get to a SEN steering committee meeting at 11 and new puppy gets second jabs at 2.30pm so I will have to try and get sorted as much as possible tonight.

Went to the gym today and stood on scales! . May need to have more control in more than just a journal! Gave all my size 12's to my mum today so I can't go up a size!

positiveattitudeonly · 04/10/2009 20:18

Just fluttering by. My, this thread moves quickly!

I feel really sorry for you all suffering from morning (evening, all day) sickness. I remember it well, special thoughts for you MMM - once cleared up cat puke, when pregnant and ended up throwing up all over it myself!

Just settling down for x-factor with DD. Sorting the washing out while I am sat down. All tidy around the place, things still going well. It is so much easier when DCs are older. I admire you ladies flying with little DCs I would never have been able to do this with younger ones. Although I do think that having 5 (with less than 6 years between them all !) may have excused me a little! - please????

WTD - So pleased you had a good weekend, although sounds like a really busy one.

Wow for all your round-ups CTGH. It must take you ages scrolling up and down.

OM - I have done the same with DH. Sort of confessed to "sorting myself out " with housework, when he was impressed that it all looked good, but would never confess to the fat fairy brainwashing. You would be able to hear him laughing from your house! As for the reaction from the teenagers, well, I won't even let myself think of the humiliation I know I would endure for weeks from them!

Control Journal is going surprisingly well for such a cynic! Thanks again for sending it.

Got to go and finish my washing sorting.

Hi to everyone. All set for another week of flying, see you all tomorrow.

dreamteamgirl · 04/10/2009 20:39

Evening everyone!!

Had a really great day, sink is shiny, got my automatic mop thingy working again, and so ran a mop over whole of downstairs (its all either laminate or lino), FINALLY finished the lounge declutter and kitchen sides are spotless. Still two hotspots to put out in there. Did someone say we are in the kitchen next week? Hope so!

My bed is changed and I am lying in it, all showered and ready for sleep feeling very very smug!!

Have just realised tho that I whilst I have laid out MY clothes I havent done DS so need to sneak into his room and do that before I forget.

Shoppingveggie · 04/10/2009 20:43

Sounds fab DTG nothing nicer than getting into clean sheets!

Jumbs · 04/10/2009 21:58

arrgghh, how do you keep up over the weekend? Luckily I'm only doing baby steps and this is the first time I've been on to check what I should have been doing.

God job it wasn't too onerous and I've shined my sink tonight. But I fear the steps will get harder...

We are away from Friday to Monday next week so I will have serious catch up to do I think.

Any tips on keeping up, those of you who succesfully followed last months babysteps?
Jumbs

EverySingleStar · 05/10/2009 03:39

Well, I am planning to start the real flying tomorrow - haven't done anything as of yet with DP only here for the weekend and away for 4 days next week so spent some time together watching x factor doing quality things.

We previously had a massive shower leak which caused water dripping from lounge ceiling - has been a 9-month saga that we thought was finished a few weeks ago but it started up again on Friday . So I have to contend with maintenance guys coming round again in about 5 hours. I am awake at this time due to insomnia so don't be suprised if it seems like I'm in a different time zone .

For tomorrow I plan to shine sink, get dressed to laces (as I'll have to do that anyway for builders hehe), and clear out the second bedroom as we're having to get a lodger in for awhile to cope with bills.

I'm really not sure what I need to do beyond that as the 'Flight plan' e-mail that I get just always has the morning routine/bedtime routine reminders and says 'We're in the Kitchen Zone!' - what does that meannnnn

droitwichmum · 05/10/2009 06:39

Good morning everyone - glad I'm not the first up Star hope you got some sleep last night.

List for today:
washing on
clean kitchen bin
15 mins declutter in kitchen (window sill I think today)
shine sink

Check in again after work - have a good day everyone!

Countingthegreyhairs · 05/10/2009 06:54

Morning.

Could someone else please post steps this morning?

School run/baby-sitter crisis!! Back later

Thanks!!!

Kelly's mission for today

babystep for today

Morning all. Hope this is all, if not I am sure DTG or Elliepac will come along and post.

Hope you are ok CTGH.

New week of flying ladies. You have all done so well so far. Keep it up! Raining here this morning, so autumn has arrived! Less excuses to leave the hoovering til later, just to make the most of the sunshine. I will have to come up with another inventive excuse reason!

Will catch up with you all later.

Countingthegreyhairs · 05/10/2009 08:21

Oh bless you PA!! Thank you.

(And well done on your control journal - I wasn't sure you would finally succumb to the Fat Fairy's brainwashing techniques words of wisdom

Sorry about that!!

This is a sneak preview for week ahead (as PA has already very kindly posted we are in kitchen all week):

www.flylady.net/pages/FlightPlan.asp

All fine thank you and sorted now! Had to be in office early this morning and so had arranged for usually very reliable baby-sitter do do school run and of course this was the one morning when she couldn't come (for a very legitimate reason it has to be said) but I didn't know until 10 mins before so had to do a bit of last minute juggling!!

Paranoid - I never do the reminders either - just write in control journal when time comes - [tops up water in vase]

Optimistic - don't worry, your secret is safe with us ...

wtd - and there we were thinking you were being serenaded by candlelight ... still, hope you and dh had a lovely time and well done on the decluttering front, shame he has to go back so soon ..that must be tough

MiniMarmite - poor you! Hope all tums in your house have settled down now ...

Dreamteam you are on a roll!

Jumbs - don't worry too much about being away/keeping up. Flylady always says "you are never late" - just jump in at today's step, you are only in competition with yourself, no-one else etc etc. Also, there are quite a few breaks/catch-up days scattered among the baby-steps so it would be fairly easy to catch up if you wanted to but not essential! Here is the link to all the steps if you want to see what you will be missing baby-steps
but no need if you don't want to!! The most important routine of all to keep up is the before bedtime routine (but we haven't reached that one yet!)

Waves to ShoppingVeggie (your lillies smell lovely) Elliepac and Droitwich Star - is this the first time you have ever done any Flying (ie are you doing baby-steps for the first time?) If so, all you have to do, every day, is the current baby-step (and maintain previous steps) and do not graduate on to anything else until all the baby-steps have become virtually automatic (like driving a car).

If you are a little further on than that and want to start zone cleaning, the best thing to do is de-clutter first. So, just spend 15 mins a day (with a timer) decluttering the part of the zone we are in for that day. (You can't clean clutter!)

Once the area is de-cluttered you start cleaning it for 15 mins a day instead!

Does that make sense to you?

Good luck with your second bedroom clear-out but take it steady... small steps ... small steps ....

OP posts:
GoldenSnitch · 05/10/2009 08:38

Doing well so far today. We were decorating again over the weekend but there wasn't a lot I could do so I made a head start on getting the kitchen cleaned. I even managed to run the dishwasher early so I could run it again with the dishwasher cleaner in it overnight and it was all nice smelling and sparkly this morning

So far this morning have:
Made the beds as soon as I got up
Dressed (but not to shoes)
Put away some washing
Done breakfast
Loaded breakfast thing into shiney clean dishwasher
Come on here to check todays mission.

Am under orders to take things easy after having a bit of a wobbly moment and pre-eclampsia scare on Friday but I'll do as much as I can

EverySingleStar · 05/10/2009 08:46

Oh yippee, only the baby steps?

I was told in no uncertain terms this morning to have second bedroom sparkling so I'll be doing that later - after I've had a nap...

Fell asleep at 4 eventually, but thought the maintenance guys were coming at 8 so back up at 7.30..only to have DP say not til 8.30 or 9

They've just arrived and I'm so that this wasn't fixed beforehand. Arghhhhh - must go and
