Everyone welcome!

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As we are coverning more ground, to avoid confusion, I'll be posting links early in the morning on the relevant day.

Good luck!

Just got the call and I didn't get the job. I was their second choice but there was an outstanding candidate.

Suppose id better get on with some cleaning now

MiniMarmite · 14/10/2009 19:09

Evening All (and a wave back to OM),

Oh Tibni, I'm really sorry to hear that. It sounds like you were a really excellent candidate though so well done for coming so close. I always find interviews such an emotional rollercoaster. I hope you are feeling ok (and that you have some chocolate to hand).

Glad the move went well Rhian, sounds like you're really getting there (always takes me months) and so glad DS is settled.

CTGH I have been giving some thought to your towel situation (which I think means I need to get out more) and think I may have two potential solutions:

  1. 'continental' style waffle towels (e.g. these ones ). They take up much less space in the maching than normal towels (and less space in your DH's swimming bag) so you could buy in white, mid and dark colours and they can just be fitted into whatever wash you happen to be doing.
  2. Ask DH to dry his feet on a small hand towel at the pool and then use the main towel more than once.

I tidied my underwear drawer today and managed to get rid of a few socks. Think I need to do the same with DS and put some of his clothes into storage. I've put together some goodies (toiletries I'm never going to use, clothes that are lovely but I'm never going to wear) in a bag for my friends at work to raid and anything that they don't want can go to the charity shop.

Going to watch a film later and then do a bit more clothes sorting and sink shining before bed.

MiniMarmite · 14/10/2009 19:10

that would be machine

optimisticmumma · 14/10/2009 19:55

Evening one and all...

Spurred on by you lovely lot I DID go to Tescos and bought doughnuts .

Have also cleaned round the back of 2 loos and cleared out one sink unit!
Also cleared out under the computer desk as I have a stand alone and a laptop arriving tomorrow. . Thought I'd inform DH on the phone so he can digest on the way back from work....
But honestly with 3 teenagers in the house all requiring internet and 'Office' all at once it was a necessity
I've only managed to grab this computer for 2 mins to go on 'mum's msn' as they call it!!

Only problem now is that the drier is leaking all over the place...

sorry about job tibni . sounds like you did really well though. minimarmite i love yyour sock idea!!! I have so many single socks... elliepac are you feeling any better? Welcomeback rian.
Hi to everyone else...the wine is opened chez nous...

Off to get DD now...

paranoiabigdestroyer · 14/10/2009 20:28

My house is tidy but please don't look behind the toilet bowl or rummage in my sock drawers. It's all a facade!

However today I did manage to:

iron for about 5 minutes before teething baby got grouchy
go to fishmonger and post office
do a mum and baby swim class
supervise DS1 tidying his bedroom
buy a family organiser calendar thing (in the spirit of today's babystep)

Sorry about the job tibni - but every interview is good practise for the job that you finally do get

Large red wine now please, thanks

elliepac · 14/10/2009 20:29

Evening,

Well, am feeling a little better in myself but the cold bit has come on with a vengeance and the whole breathing thing is a little tricky. Thanks for all the good wishes and lemsip (doesn't that stuff taste like shite?)...am desperate for some wine though .

Have nothing to report as far as flying is concerned because i have taken OM's fine advice and decided to stop stressing because that will not get me better will it?

tibni sorry about the job, sounds as if it was a tough day.

minimarmite where do you get all these fabulous ideas from?

Am too tired for a full catch-up so please forgive me fellow fledglings. Am hoping will start to get back up to speed tomorrow. Think i might just do babysteps for a while to get myself back in my routines.

havingagiraffe · 14/10/2009 21:06

Sorry you're still feeling rubbish ellie it's probably because you work with all those vermin children. It's nearly the weekend so hope you can get it knocked on the head with a bit of rest.

Marvellous ideas minimarmite I really think you need to go top of the class. You're so good at all this - You're my hero. How do you fit it all in - film then MORE tidying

Tibni So sorry about the job, I had high hopes by the sound of your interview. Any chance they will have anything else come up, seeing as how you were so close?

OM Well done for doing the shop. Doughnuts just make everything seem better.

paranoia & wtd Please stop ironing as I still haven't finished mine, although did do some yesterday and during the day too which is most unusual.

Snitch Hope you're looking after yourself and are feeling better. How long do you have to go?

PA Your cheeky DC's -how do you fit all those extras in as well as your brood. It really does sound like chaos, organised chaos of course, with shiny sinks.

Can't find who asked about drying in the swish and swipe, IMO the drying is vital as it is what make everything shine.

Rhian sounds like your really settling in. Can't believe it that your DS is opening drawers and putting things away. My DS is 6mth and I can't imagine that in another 6 he'll be so different.

On that not quick Mummy brag - he sat on his own today, not for long, but still

frazzled sounds like you are doing just fine and if not who cares, as long as it works for you.

Ended up having a fairly productive day, apart from getting a wash on I got my list done AND took stuff to charity shop and delivered and wrapped my SIL b/d pressie.

Although really don't see point of my hoovering upstairs as got home to find feathers ALL over the place and a dead bird in the dressing room - eek!! Now thinking of putting cat on e-bay

MiniMarmite · 14/10/2009 21:34

Thanks but, erm, well actually, sock idea was DH's! And didn't get to the film. Watched Nigel Slater and then decided to go through all my clothes to see what actually fits and discovered I have no tops!!! Have decided to stop torturing myself and put away clothes that don't fit anymore (and have not fitted since I was first pregnant with DS). Now have the dilema of being newly pregnant so don't want to buy new normal clothes but too early for maternity stuff. Have bought today: 1 maternity coat (on the grounds that by the time I can buy clothes it may no longer be available), bump band and a dress and decided to keep them all packed up until 12 week scan so I can return if all goes horribly wrong ( hope not).

Cleaners came today and DH is polishing my boots for me and made me a hot drink...so actually I've been quite lazy!

That was all a bit waffly wasn't it?!

OK, better go, am pretending that I'm really writing to John Lewis returns department!

pushmepullyou · 14/10/2009 21:59

Evening all

Haven't managed to catch up with the whole thread yet, but know I will fall asleep on the sofa if I don't post now!

tibni sorry about the job. Sounds like you were really close, which must be very annoying, but hopefully also reassuring to know you're employable

Glad you're starting to feel better ellie. Can I offer you a medicinal port and brandy?

Done morning and evening routines, washing, dishwasher, cleaned the back of the toilet, swept kitchen floor and shined sink.

Still haven't got the hang if the swish and swipe and noticed there was some advice from I think it was CTGH and others. Off to catch up and pick up some tips

droitwichmum · 14/10/2009 22:09

Hi everyone!

OM thanks for opening the wine - mine's a large red (if there's any left!)

Not a lot done today - long day at work and really tired but have done
dress to shoes
make bed
breakfast
make lunch
ironing
clean bath and shower
mission - sock drawer - doesn't need doing so I'll do the hotspot on the landing I didn't do yesterday

Will shine sink in a mo before bed & put the washing machine on.

Have decided to defer some stuff until the weekend when I'm not
as exhausted I've got more time
mission - medicine cabinet
room rescue - spare room
hot spot - dining table

Tibni sorry about interview. I think it's really frustrating when they say you were great BUT there was someone even better.

Off to bed before I fall asleep at PC - see you tomorrow

dreamteamgirl · 14/10/2009 22:30

Just posting my swish & swipe then will go and read the rest

  1. Spray the top back of loo and loo seat with antbac spray and wipe with kitchen roll. Drop kitchen roll in bin
  2. Move everything from shelf to stand on the closed loo seat from the shelf -this is cup with toothbrushes in, toothpaste pump, clinique box holding cleanser, toner, moisturiser and foundation, and my makeup remover, so really just 4 things.
  3. Spray both mirrors, sink, splashback with window cleaner. Wipe down with kitchen roll and drop in bin
  4. Put stuff back on shelf

Time taken 45 seconds- 1 minute

I also swish the loo brush round, which is standing in diluted shampoo- used tokeep it in bleach but the shampoo spells nicer and works just as well

I stand spray bottles and kithcen roll on window ledge between uses

Countingthegreyhairs · 14/10/2009 22:37

Just come to tuck all of you fledglings in to the nest and warble a little tune ...

(yes I have been at the Cotes du Rhone )

Sounds as though you managed everything really brilliantly Rhian82 - well done - pat yourself on the back! Hope you will be very happy there ...

Sounds as if you had a productive day WtheD - hope your new neighbour is OK - it is tough moving countries - and it's kind of you to take time out of your day to help out
(we have the British Commonwealth's Women's Association over here - to be avoided at all costs - too many pearls and pie-crust collars)

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about the job tibni - we were keeping everything crossed all day. Well done for coming 2nd though and it's their loss!! I guess one never loses from putting oneself through this sort of exercise - doing a mail merge under pressure/while being observed and enduring technical hitches at the same time, is no mean feat!! And at least you have an interview outfit ready now for next time ...!! [Pours tibni consoling glass of red]

MiniMarmite - I'm really touched that you have given so much thought to my towel problem!! It's very much appreciated. Being a continental waffler, the first solution looks perfect!!. Seriously though, thanks for that link. They look absolutely perfect, they realy do! Will investigate further ...Well done on your sock clear out!! Santé (or perhaps not if you are pregnant) When is your 12-wk scan?

Hands Optimistic a glass of red, suggests getting in touch with PA for plumbing/appliance repairs!! Well done on lavs and Tesco front!

Grab yourself a glass Paranoid, getting anything done with a teething baby in tow is an achievement in itself, you've done really well today.

So glad to hear you are feeling a bit better Elliepac but don't rush back too soon. Give yourself the time to get better properly, it sounds as though you are really suffering.

Yikes about the bird HavingaG - hope not too gruesome [hands over a stiff one] no pun intended

No wonder you are tired after that lot PushmePullyou - enjoy a well deserved rest tonight, you deserve it.

We are nearly half way through the month and everyone is posting and participating so actively that this thread is getting a bit too long and a bit un-scroll-able ....so If you'll forgive me, I'm going to take an executive decision and start an October Fledgling Flyers thread Part II.
