Everyone welcome!

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As we are coverning more ground, to avoid confusion, I'll be posting links early in the morning on the relevant day.

Good luck!

Wow what a busy start to the month

Welcome to all the newcomers to the thread, lovely to see some new faces.

Ok confession time- I still haven't even attempted to declutter my cupboard under the stairs, and until I do I cannot put the coats and bits away that are in the hall. I promise I will do it tomorrow when I have a longer child free morning. If I don't you all have permission to give me a hard kick up the bum!

I have been into town today to get a present for my nephew, still don't know if the card got there yet. I also purchased myself a note pad in which I am going to keep my control journal, am strangely looking forward to sitting down with DTGs journal and adapting it!

Glad you are starting to feel better OM, hope your lo's stop mallingering soon.

Bigboots · 01/10/2009 13:51

Lol! I don't have a front porch or a dining room - oh the joy of little houses!!
Today I am on track....off to clean my hall

fairybubbles · 01/10/2009 14:01

Hi,

I'd like to join in if that's ok? I have a tendency to leave the house messy for a few days then do a massive clean a few times a week. And then I get stressed when unplanned guests appear. I want to change my habbits and get more organised and keep on top of things more.

Looking forward to reading the daily updates.x

paranoiabigdestroyer · 01/10/2009 14:05

Just doing sink (the first bit withe bleach) so I figure I have time to declutter the dresser drawers in the dining room too.

I need to read the how to declutter link - where am I supposed to put all the stuff once I've decluttered it, so it doesn't just end up cluttering up somewhere else? Lucky that a trip to tip / recycling is on the agenda for me today.

optimisticmumma · 01/10/2009 14:05

Just watching daytime telly taking a breather from my hall basket.
I have culled numerous shoes/trainers that DC have outgrown and single gloves, mouldy - looking hats and tasteless bags that belonged to my once-five-year-old-now-14-year-old DD.

Woolly hats and scarves are now fluttering on the line fragrant and ready for winter/ice-skating. I AM SO SMUG ,.

Brokkenharted just shine your sink. Go on you know you want to....

Thanks for all the good wishes and do feel free to abbreviate me to OM!

optimisticmumma · 01/10/2009 14:06

rats the crossing out thingy didn't work!

tibni · 01/10/2009 14:37

Hello all.

Ellie I have not got an interview yet but my spy inside school tells me they have just started the short listing!

Well I have been at the gym this morning then went for a mooch around town. Managed to do the ironing, general tidy, s&s and beds first so left the house ok.

Off to the hall now! Did notice the front door is dirty (joy of white UPVC) so may give that a bit of a clean too!

Rhian82 · 01/10/2009 15:11

Going to visit our new flat again tonight - need to measure a couple of things, and decide if I could live with the washer/dryer that's there or if I'm going to insist on dragging our old one with us (doing the move in a car so could be interesting).

Anything I should be particularly looking out for or making a note of does anyone think?

havingagiraffe · 01/10/2009 16:00

Hi all newbies and oldies (although obviously not old but young and beautiful)

Just posting to get this on my 'Threads I'm on' Not started the month very well as have been out since 9:15 and it's not 4pm

Things are getting out of hand - my hotspots are certainly heating up so need to get myself in check.

thanks to CTGH for all your hard work. Read the links this morning and was a bit scared but will give it a go!

Would love to catch up properly but must get flying! (or maybe doing what OM is doing when she should be clearing her hall basket )

elliepac · 01/10/2009 16:19

Well shiver me timbers...how active are we all today?

It is almost impossible to keep up so i shall just say a massive hello to all.

Special mention to OM please remember in future that i am a complete lightweight where alcohol is concerned and am susceptible to peer pressure but please don't feel bad, WINE IS GOOD oh and am glad piggy flu is subsiding.

tibni good luck with the shortlisting, these things always seem to take an age don't they?

House is a tip after yesterday so am intending to get back on track this evening and do the mission, made easier by fact i don't have a porch but hallway is just used as a dumping ground and am conscious that it is the first thing people see. Currently in my hallway there:-

pushchair
pile of washing to go upstairs
foam swords
several odd shoes
post
junk mail
Ben 10 dvd
bookbag
coats
random candlestick
loose change

I must declutter it. However, as ever i shall include a disclaimer that i am knackered so it might not happen .

must go and pick up ds from school choir.
back soon

paranoiabigdestroyer · 01/10/2009 16:30

I am SMUG and in love with this fly business. Well, at least I have one tidy drawer and a shiny sink. Is that it now - am I done for the month??

What is a control journal?

Jacaqueen · 01/10/2009 16:30

Ok I'm one of the newbies just checking in. I have shined my sink today and also spent 15min decluttering in the kitchen.

positiveattitudeonly · 01/10/2009 16:54

Hi all.

Have a confession to make. I am not doing the porchway/hall thingy today. Hall is actually clear, so that bits ok, but the porch & lobby area are full with boxes that will be moved next month when the builders come and sort out a wetroom and storage area. The boxes are from when we moved in nearly 9 years ago some time ago. They may as well stay there now, hadn't they? only one more month to go. We have not been able to use our front door since they were put there when the cellar flooded 18 months ago.
Control journal is up and running and I have found how satisfying it is to tick off my "to do" list each day. My kids think I have become "sooooo sad!!" (DH laughingly agrees!)
Anyway, off to cook tea. Oh rubbish, I am no good at remebering names and details. a massive hello to all you newbies. Come in, have some fun, don't take it all too seriously and IT WORKS!!

Wine in evening = bad morning! Well done for working that one out, trouble is I forget by the evening again!!

optimisticmumma · 01/10/2009 17:38

Love the description of your hall elliepac. God it takes me back especially the foam swords. My 3 y o nephew has just told me about Ben 10!!
By contrast mine consisted of
bags of rugby kit,
tap shoes,
lever arch A level files and
jackets thrown across floor
but not anymore, no siree!

Am going to have WINE tonight as I haven't had any for over a week . Trial run anyway to check it doesn't taste like vinegar!

Hi to everyone else..forget the fluttering , you're flying!!

snorkie · 01/10/2009 17:45

Hi all.

morning routine went to plan despite feeling a bit rubbish. Have decluttered small area of dining room and cleaned mould patch off ceiling of hall and cleaned doors a little.

Control journal is in place (not done all the contacts/birthday pages yet).

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/10/2009 17:51

Ok this time I hope to last longer then 3 days RL not improved but never will so here's hoping that order will be imparted to the chaos and 18mths of on/off spring cleaning finally comes to an end and the junk is gome.

Countingthegreyhairs · 01/10/2009 19:20

Ahhh, my dd has a pink foam sword!! ...

... anyway ...

Evening everyone!!

What an amazing start!! Lovely to "see" so many faces we know and so many newcomers!!

Now the thread is moving so fast, I hope you will forgive me :

(1)if/when I don't have time to reply to everyone individually as before (except for direct Flying questions)

and

(2) I think I will only be able to come on here twice a day - once in the morning to post the links and once in the evening to do a quick round up and answer any queries.

Otherwise I will be spending more time posting on here than actually doing the baby-steps and zone decluttering which would be slightly head over arse mad really, even for me!!

Thank you Dreamteam (our much-revered resident expert ) for answering queries during the middle part of the day today ...

A warm welcome to:

DidEinsteinsmum Brokenhearted Annmar and
FairyBubbles

Hope you are getting on OK! Let us know if you have any queries.

Well done Jacaqueen and everyone else who has started today.

LOL Paranoid - only 30 more baby-steps (yuck - how I hate that phrase) to go!! Don't worry about the control journal yet. That will come up in the baby-steps ...

Rhian82 - probably too late to be posting this but maybe measure your larger pieces of furniture (dresser, sofa etc) to see if they will fit up narrow staircases or through doors???

Oh I can't resist just waving to fellow fledgligns PA, tibni, Dreamteam, Optimistic, Ellipac, Snorkie, HavingaG (don't be scared - I don't know what I'm doing either , Rhian82, Bigboots, Blissa

and anyone else I have missed!!

My sink is shined, my dining table is clear

and I went out to lunch with a friend and drank wine and came home and ate carbonnade and drank more wine ... so I am just going to roll off and try and find dd's swimming costume for tomorrow

G'night all!

See you bright and early!

What a great first day! Well done!

MiniMarmite · 01/10/2009 19:57

Oh gosh, it's all moving so fast I can't keep up! Haven't had time to read the thread so not sure of everyone's news but will try to have a quick catch up later.

Had a lovely pampering evening with DH yesterday and now it is back to the study decluttering which is going well.

Well done everyone and welcome to the newbie fledglings...there seem to be more and more

Here's to shiny sinks everywhere!

havingagiraffe · 01/10/2009 20:01

Looked at my sink tonight and not only is it not shiny it's a bit dirty shhhh

No more moaning off to shine it RIGHT NOW!

Shoppingveggie · 01/10/2009 20:05

That's good to know DDG I was flying without knowing it!

Got through quite a pile of ironing, and have made sure that DC have uniform ready up til Wednesday - another time saver I am trying to do - don't leave whole weeks worth of school uniform to wash together on a Friday - I used to do this then panic on a Sunday if I had either forgot to wash it, left it in machine , or at best had to iron it Sunday night. This way, wash on a Wednesday/Thursday and at least half the uniform is ready before the weekend for the week ahead. Sunday nights are so much nicer!

Will make sure sink is shining before bed and will put out clothes for tomorrow.

pinknosedevereux · 01/10/2009 20:05

Hello
I've been shining sink and swishing and swiping for a week now. Seems to help, but not really getting any further as have been to work a LOT. Promise to do better next week.

Shoppingveggie · 01/10/2009 20:06

oops I mean DTG

havingagiraffe · 01/10/2009 20:30

I now have a shiny sink - you can all sleep!

droitwichmum · 01/10/2009 20:38

Nearly done for today:-
sink shiny
decluttering done in dining room - glad I put timer on as not finished after 15 mins but the rest can wait till tomorrow
waiting for grocery delivery so off to do 15 mins in hall

elliepac · 01/10/2009 20:51

Well, thank god for that havingagiraffe, I was wondering how I was going to with a sleepless night .

optimistic no wine for a week, what were you thinking lady, get thee to a wine glass immediately . SOunds like CTGH has had your share anyway though .

minimarmite am jealous of your pampering and rhian hope your flat was nice.

Well, have tidied downstairs, swished and swiped bathroom, cooked tea , 15 mins declutter in hallway (no more foam swords you'll be glad to know).

Well done to all those who have achieve their first full day flying. Any questions just ask, I won't be able to answer because i am useless but as a collective....

Have a lovely evening.
