Everyone welcome!

Here you can, for one month:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As we are coverning more ground, to avoid confusion, I'll be posting links early in the morning on the relevant day.

Good luck!

Still to do:

Ironing
supper on table for 6pm
2 mins hot spot in loft room
fridge door
sink

I think I can manage that but perhaps someone could check I'm not MNing at 5.45pm?

optimisticmumma · 07/10/2009 16:40

had a very productive day partly because it's been POURING here all day .

Today:
Take DC and DH to station without shouting!done
pull out kitchen cupboards*done - not all
15 mins PAPERWORK - now you know I'll need a group nag!done
15 mins markinghmm
TESCOS before we are reduced to foraging for food sort of
take DD to dentistto do

Have also:

washed and dried 2 loads of washing
Cleaned out fridge in prep for new food !!
Done my faucets (assuming that means taps!)

See you later...

positiveattitudeonly · 07/10/2009 16:56

Just fluttering in between getting drowned on my way to the fourth meeting of the day. I was really pleased with my hair first thing this morning, straightened beautifully for once, but I have got wet so many times today that I now look like a drowned rat with frizzy loo brush on my head!

OM - I am so pleased that I am not the only one with a car that is used for leaving everything in. I am always carting kids all over the place and am surprised at what I find in the back! If I was ever in an accident I am not sure what anyboby would think! DH, who only has himself in the car, can never understand why mine is such a mess! DD4 has a habit of being the slowest person on the planet first thing in the morning and on occasions I have been known to unceremoniously put her in the car in her pyjamas and she has until we get to the school to get changed! It is only a 10 minute drive (they always walk unless I am going past the road), but surprisingly she can manage to get changed with the threat of me dropping her off at school in PJs rather than the 30 minutes she would take to get dressed at home! but parts of PJs in the back is not a good look! - Please don't call social services - I will deny all knowledge!

Anyway, No time between stupid meetings today to do any housework. Kitchen floor that was spotless yesterday is now covered in muddy boot/trainer/shoes/paw prints - I give up!! Why did I bother???
Also slightly concerned about a flooding issue that may mean more of a mess if this bloomin rain doesn't stop within the next hour!

CTGH - Relax, no panic, whenever you have a few minutes.
Enjoy your cyber chocolates - The best sort, they have no calories, but unfortunately not quite Thorntons on the tastebuds!

Have a good evening all.

havingagiraffe · 07/10/2009 19:15

Oooh busy day both on the thread and here.

Swimming for us today as well, must be the day for it.

Found out from the wonderful world wide web how to 'aquacleanse' my oven today so another thing to cross of the zone list - did the hob - PROPERLY too!

Also bought some shiny sink - will it live up to my high sink standards . Could have spent a fortune in the cleaning section! How very sad! What has happened to my life.

Off to relax for a bit - watch Strictly and Nigel Slater then get my before bed routine done, although clothes are out already.

WtD If that's having an awful day you must really be top of the class on a good day. Don't be hard on yourself.

Big waves to everyone else - Keep going we are doing great.

Anyone got any good motivational phrases - serious or otherwise.

MiniMarmite · 07/10/2009 19:26

Ooh, thanks for the Nigel Slater reminder - MrMM and I keep missing it.

It is pamper night, hurrah (well the big fat fairy told us to pamper once a week so who am I to argue)!

Bit of a disaster today. Got soaked on the way to and from swimming lesson (not that that really matters). Got distracted on the way out though and forgot to put the oven on so jacket potatoes not very warm on our return! DH bought emergency pizza, phew. So much for all my menu planning!

Anyway, tonight's plan is to do a 2 minute hotspot rescue, 15 minutes in the dark nasty cupboard again, sink shining and then have a lovely bath (this is actually a declutter in itself because I am using up all the old smellies that people have given me and I've never got around to using)!

Hope you all find time to be good to yourselves this evening as you're all doing brilliantly.

droitwichmum · 07/10/2009 19:38

Hi everyone! How are our kitchens looking? I couldn't resist actually boasting about mine to 2 friends at work today (how sad is that? but the friend who used to be a domestic goddess confessed to letting things slip so I have introduced her to the fat fairy)

Progress so far today
This morning:
dressed to shoes done
breakfast *done
ironing done
DS to breakfast club - got to walk today done - got a lift tomorrow but walking again on Friday

After work
clean tap
15 min declutter - top of fridge done AND DH HELPED WITHOUT ME ASKING!!!!
Hot Spot - computer desk done but it needs at least 3 more
put out clothes for tomorrow
washing on
dishwasher on done
shine sink

Organised Mum planner and diary arrived today so adding transferring birthdays etc to those to my list.

Back later!

walkthedinosaur · 07/10/2009 19:54

Well today was better than yesterday have:

Cleaned microwave (how does it get so dirty when I only use it for popcorn?)
Washed picture frames in kitchen
Scrubbed shower
Mopped bedroom, bathroom and landing floors and stairs
Have shoved in some washing to stick on the airer before I go to bed, but I can't be bothered to do any of the ironing that's there.

Then the usual swish and swipe, shiny sink, cooked dinner.

Am really tired now after my late night last night and would love a nice bubble bath but that spider is still in there winking at me. Big butch builder doesn't like spiders apparently so I think I'm going to have to drown it - sorry spider.

HAG how do you aquacleanse an oven - I'm intrigued.

See you all in the morning.

pushmepullyou · 07/10/2009 20:11

Hi all, just quickly checking in and feeling very ashamed as I have done nothing except for my morning routine yet today . It has been a hard day at work though.

Very impressed by all the lists and achievements and a bit of all those going swimming. I keep meaning to take my DD, but am too shy to go on my own, and also don't have a swimming costume to fit my post baby body!

Tonight I need to:

Do evening routine (kitchen clear, dishwasher, clean washing upstairs, toys away, restack baby scattered dvds.
5 minute rescue on living room
2 minute hot spot thingy on kitchen windowsill

stepaway · 07/10/2009 20:16

walkthedinosaur, that is one impressive list! I hope you are feeling suitably proud of yourself...

Today my sink is not just empty and clean, it's actually shiny! I found some limescale remover stuff in a bottle under the sink and slapped that on. Gotta love those strong nasty chemicals!

Have also done 2 loads of laundry, and yesterday's mission (proper scrubbing of the kitchen counters). Oh, and am managing to keep my hotspots under control.

I am going to try and do Monday's mission tonight and that's it from me for today.

Have to say I'm really enjoying having an organised, tidy and clean house! it's quite a novel feeling for me.

snorkie · 07/10/2009 20:42

I cleaned my fridge today. If I'm feeling brave tomorrow I will tackle the oven (shudder).

elliepac · 07/10/2009 20:54

Evening all,

Today I have done:-

nothing

this evening, i am going to do:-

nothing

DD is poorly, raging temp of 39 cough, cold etc. so i suspect i am in for a disturbed night bless her. DS had the most difficult homework in the world which fried my brain trying to explain it to him (adding up money...he struggles with his maths), am so glad i don't teach primary.

CTGH glad to see i am back in my rightful place

everybody seems to be doing brilliantly this month, am feeling mighty proud.

For all those who talk about cars, i can also claim to be a fully paid up member of that club. If i ever lost anything, i check my car first as my whole life appears to be there. Dh never understands.

Am off to cry at the pride of britain awards.

Shoppingveggie · 07/10/2009 21:55

CTGH have you booked your pedicure?

Kept things neat and tidy - working all day tomorrow and Friday, so not much will get done.

Will try and log on at sometime - keep it up everyone

droitwichmum · 07/10/2009 22:08

Run out of steam so have shined my sink and stopped for today. I have done most of the things on my list. The only things I haven't done were extras I added so they will be on my list from tomorrow morning.

So today I have:
dressed to shoes done
breakfast done
ironing done
DS to breakfast club - got to walk today done
clean tap done
15 min declutter - top of fridge done
Hot Spot - computer desk done
put out clothes for tomorrow - will do when I go up to bed
washing on done
dishwasher on done (twice!)
shine sink done

Ellie - hope DD has some sleep - you too
Snorkie - well done for doing the fridge, the idea of tackling that and/or the oven are bringing me out in a cold sweat

Countingthegreyhairs · 07/10/2009 22:59

Hello, just come to see you all tucked safely in to the nest ...

I am so impressed with everyone on here. You are all motivating me to keep up (with only one school-age dd, a dh what cooks and a p/t job school-hour job I have NO excuses)

morning and evening routines going well
and becoming more automatic

trying to do one load of washing a day from beginning to end and am more or less achieving it but I hang up a lot of stuff to dry so not always possible

sticking to washing my own work clothes and dd's school uniform/gym/riding/ballet clothes (and polishing shoes) on a Friday night for week ahead and ironing all of them on Sat mornings - that one thing has relieved a huge amount of stress

kitchen:
cleared and cleaned out fridge
cleared and cleaned top of high cupboard and found and chucked all sorts of dust-covered relics
taps already shining

sitting room and bathroom now visitor friendly 95% of the time - yipppeeeee!!!!

Not done well on meal planning/shopping this week because have done extra hours at work which have thrown me off course so have relied too much on freezer

Haven't booked pedicure yet but will do so soon!!(thanks for asking ShoppingVeggie)

And as is evident, finding it very hard to stick to regular bed-time of 10.30pm which I SHOULD be doing

Office still a complete and utter tip

Master bedroom swings from utter tip to organised chaos and back

Hope your dd feels better soon Elliepac and that you get SOME sleep

Please don't feel ashamed Pushmepullyou - you have worked hard at your job - you did your morning routine - that's GOOD

WtD will think about motivational messages ....

G'night to all!

OP posts:
droitwichmum · 08/10/2009 06:39

Have a good day everyone!

Countingthegreyhairs · 08/10/2009 06:57

OP posts:
Countingthegreyhairs · 08/10/2009 07:15

Correction: sorry!

It was HavingAG who was asking for motivational messages down the thread, not WalkingtheD!!

Anyway, having thought about this overnight,
I think this is one of my favourite's:

"Real generosity toward the future consists in giving all to what is present."
Albert Camus

  • ie (my interpretation anyway fwiw) at this time precise time next year, our levels of house-proudness (if that's a word), our weight, or our fitness will be be higher or lower than they are today. The choice is entirely ours as to whether they will be better or worse. Either way, that time will be gone forever.

No pressure !!!

OP posts:
annmar · 08/10/2009 07:15

Good morning all.

Managed to clear out the car and wash the kitchen windows, but didn't get much else done yesterday.

Today's plan is:
Finish cleaning worktops in kitchen
Deep clean sink and taps
Clear kitchen table

I think this should be doable.

Will try and pop back later to update.

elliepac · 08/10/2009 07:50

Morning,

DD still poorly so am not going to work today. This might give me the opportunity to catch up a little bit.

We shall see

positiveattitudeonly · 08/10/2009 07:54

CTGH _ Cant cope with deep and meaningful thoughts before 8am!! I will read that again when the braincells have woken up! But I think I would be impressed with your deep and meaningful insight if I was more bothered awake.

optimisticmumma · 08/10/2009 08:47

elliepac hope DD is feeling a bit better this morning and that you have a good day flying!!

Right today...have put on WM and DW and done morning routine.
Got to go to local shopping centre - no really - to get birthday pressies for large numbers of extended family who all decided to be born in October!
15mins kitchen drawers AGAIN
PAPERWORK - why do I feel as though it is never-ending. I get through one pile of post/school letters to find more coming in through the door. Arghhhh

CTGH where do you want me to start? House/weight/fitness???Help!

Hi to everyone else on the thread. Have a good day!

hellsbelles · 08/10/2009 09:48

elliepac - poor dd!

I'm out for a lot of today but have chopped up veg and stuff for lamb shanks stew so I can make it quickly when I get in.

Feels terribly uncharacteristic to be so organised. Does anyone feel weird (in a good way I guess) about the way their actual persona is changing with the flylady thing?

I was unfortunately known for being very disorganised (at home NOT work), house very 'creatively' untidy and food usually a scrambled together pile of goodness knows what. Now I'm becoming almost a different person. Exciting but so odd?!!!

Jumbs · 08/10/2009 10:59

Does putting your clothes out for the next day count if you just pick your jeans and jumper off the floor from yesterday?

That aside I've done 2 mins on my first (of many) hotspots and put the titles "morning" and "before bed" in a notebook with the tasks underneath. Seriosly hoping OH doesn't find it, he will laugh himself hoarse if I mentioned "fly lady" "flight plan" or any of the other fly lady stuff!

Countingthegreyhairs · 08/10/2009 13:18

Yes it definitely counts Jumbs - as does clearing a path through heaps of books on our master bedroom floor (using a brush) which is what I did this morning!!

Ellie hope your dd gets better soon - poor her - and you ...

Glad the brainwashing system is working for you Hellesbelles - soon we will all be mowing our lawns in unison wearing 1950s cocktail dresses

Sorry about the Camus everyone!!!!!

Don't worry about it (particularly Optimistic) just using house-keeping, weight, fitness as examples - the latter two not relevant here obviously!! Not trying to scare you all off - jsut trying to get the point across that we all have choices (however much we think we don't). Unfortunately, I usually choose to sit amidst the wobbling piles of paper that currently constitute my office and drink a cup of coffee and mumsnet instead of tackling it all ....

I promise - no Camus every again before 10 am!!!

OP posts:
Countingthegreyhairs · 08/10/2009 13:19

oops - EVER again!
