Spanking new Flybaby "nursery" thread - learn how to Fly for the month of September only

Countingthegreyhairs · 31/08/2009 13:42

Hello. Does anyone want to join/re-join us for a mutual "kick-up-the-bum" motivational thread starting tomorrow 1st September?

[Then we can join the main Flying threads thereafter if we want to.)

We did the same throughout August

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/good_housekeeping/799866-starting-tomorrow-accelerated-flying-for-month-of-Augu st-only

and it has really helped but being confirmed slatterns extreme cases we feel the need to repeat the exercise throughout September too. We need to declutter, organise, tidy and clean and generally get our lives under control.

All newcomers welcome!

I think I've been overdoing it a bit as I was seriously sore and achey on Friday. Did manage to keep what I have already cleaned tidy though, including keeping the sink sparkling.

Has been hard to keep up today cause we're redoing the kitchen and we've been making extra mess while we fitted the dishwasher and the washing machine (both integrated so needed fitting and doors putting on etc) but the kitchen at least looks clean and tidy (floor needs mopping though) and the lounge is tidy even if it could do with a vac. I even managed to put the clean washing away straight away rather than leaving it out in huge piles like I normally do.

I'm not sure about post-it-notes - strikes me as looking a bit untidy and I've not been doing the shoes but the house is certainly looking a lot tidier.

I think I can find a hotspot in pretty much every room which is not good. Got to get them sorted!

Shoppingveggie · 05/09/2009 21:22

Hi everyone

Not been around since Thursday afternoon and 'fraid I haven't had time to read all the thread, but I have been good at keeping sink tidy, and doing dressed to slippers.

Going to sort out part of the study tomorrow, we bought a printer nearly a year ago and it is still in its box, as I have not yet cleared space on the desk for it to sit .

Have a good weekend everyone.

elliepac · 05/09/2009 21:23

I guess i'll hav to train my own DH then Team Edward!!!

Well Done Golden Snitch, quite impressive achievements . i too have decided against post it notes, DC would move them or eat them, depending on which DC it was. My whole house is a hot spot so am struggling to know where to start

dreamteamgirl · 05/09/2009 21:47

Hi all

Ok, to answer a few q's asked on page 9 then willread page 10 & reply to them

Nannynick dont worry if you miss a day, just catch up one day when the daily add is just to read some notes or something, it doesnt matter at all. Just keep adding 1 job a day in and you will be totally fine honestly! And on days you are out such a long time, at least you will come home to a clean house and a shiny sink!!

elliepac and earlyonemorning. My bedroom used to be horrendous too, but after following the babysteps and then doing the bedroom zone twice is was really nice and I mange to keep it that way about 85%+ of the time :-))) and even when it goes wrong I can reclaim it fairly easily. I reclaimed mine in two ways
1 was to make some space for clothes that were worn once- I had this weird thing that I didnt hang up things that were worn once but clean enough for another wear so I left them on the floor - course then they got messy and creased and I DIDNT get a 2nd wear out of them at all ... So by clearing a shelf in cupboard and folding them onto there that solved that one instantly!!
The second way was to do a 27 fling boogie in there every other day or so for 2 weeks. It was amazing and so liberating. I think they come in on about day 20, or they might be in the after babysteps, but anyway I found them really good as they just take 15 mins- or less. 27 fling boogie
Oh and if whole house feels like ahotspot just pick anyone place, like dining table, or table by door, or top of microwave and do 2 mins on it.

Oh and hi tibni- good work today and hope the JPs cooked ok

optimisticmumma · 05/09/2009 22:30

Hi all.
Bit late again but at least I have a shiny sink! Am glad there's been the discussion about hotspots and keeping up steps while working etc. V. helpful. So glad I'm not going to be locked down on day 28, "Positive". Sorry about DDs finger. OK now? I'm waiting til next week to do next step as I really have to do some major planning this weekend (teacher!). Have been noticing hotspots round the house though and I seem to have loads . Mine mainly involve paperwork. Am rather hoping there will be a 'ffs sort out your paperwork' step at some point!!

Have a good weekend all...

zisforzebra · 05/09/2009 22:41

Hello, Can a join a little late? I started flylady quite sometime ago and never made it past shining the sink! Our house is a terrible state because both DH and I do the bare minimum, really just enough to have clean plates and be able to get from one room to another! I'm determined to get in under control though.

I have hooved through mine and DHs bedroom, washed the pillows and duvet and hooved the DCs room today but only because the dust is causing us all to wake up with blocked noses.

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/09/2009 10:13

Never too late Zebra!! Welcome!!

Hello again everyone. Sorry just dropping in very briefly again to re-post step for today and to add tomorrow's step:

Sunday 6th September

Sunday 7th September

You are all so busy and this thread is moving so fast that I can't keep up with it!!

Go Flybabies!!

DH has taken DS1 out for the morning.
DS2 is asleep.
The bathroom is in a shocking state
I'm going in! Wish me luck.

After that I'm hoping to have time to do the floors and sort the washing.

Be back later!

I must confess however, that I am not dressed, let alone got my shoes on. It is Sunday though

McDreamy · 06/09/2009 11:02

Hello all

Missed yesterday as we had a big day out but was lovely to come home to a tidy kitchen - a first in the McDreamy house!!!

Blitzed the playroom on Friday night during a night of insomnia - can't believe what time I eventually went to bed but it felt good coming down in the morning!!

Catch up day today.

Well done everyone

Shoppingveggie · 06/09/2009 13:49

Just logged on and seen my message about clearing the study - I had forgotton about that been too busy listing things on ebay! (I guess that could be called de-cluttering though)

So, I am going to cut short my time on here and go and clear some space for the printer - even if it all goes in a box for me to look at later - got to leave soon to pick DC up from Dorset.

Have a good day x

fruitstick · 06/09/2009 20:03

Sink shiny
Bathrooms done
Kitchen floor done
Lounge hoovered
children bathed and in bed

Just ironing in front of Miss Marple to do

elliepac · 06/09/2009 20:21

Ok, today I fell off the wagon. I did not shine my sink before bedtime yesterday or at any point today until half an hour ago. Did not get dressed before I came downstairs and in fact didn't get dressed until 4pm . However after family outing to park and out for tea, gave myself a big kick up the bum and since 6 have managed to:-

Shine sink
Living room tidied and floors swept
Uniform done
All clothes set out for the morning (see am actually ahead of tomorrow)
Done a load of washing
Bathed and bedded 2 DC's (although one still being a PITA)
Bathed me
Settled down to watch Come Dine With Me (it is sunday after all)

For a day where I fell off the wagon, I am pleased I managed to get back on sort of though have not done hot spot because the thought of it was too depressing.

stepaway · 06/09/2009 22:01

After a wobbly moment on Saturday (left sink full of dishes as was too tired to do them after work that night), my sink is shiny tonight. Have also mopped kitchen floor and vacuumed upstairs and down.

Tomorrow I'm going to tackle the bathroom.

CJCregg · 06/09/2009 23:35

Hello all - I am desperately in need of Flying lessons but HELP, I'm six days behind already!

Is it ok if I join in?

And how much do I need to catch up on?

And (sorry) my sink is that crappy off-white colour, will it ever shine?!

walkthedinosaur · 07/09/2009 07:16

Morning all, hope you all had a good weekend! Well DH was home from work for the weekend so things sort of slipped, but he went back last night, so after the DC's went to bed I had a good old sort out and even tackled my hot zone of the dining room table - all the papers, books and everything else now sorted.

I'm an hour ahead of you lot so this morning have done breakfasts and loaded dishwasher, got the DC's to school, walked dog, put washing on line that I did last night, put in another load for today, loaded dishwasher, cleaned dining room table and of course shone sink. Am just going to have a quick coffee now and then I'm going to tackle my bathroom.

My other hot zone is my bedroom which seems like everybody elses a dumping ground of things to sort out, I did 10 mins last night but it's going to take a bit more than that, that's for sure.

AvadaKedavra · 07/09/2009 08:08

Morning babyflyers, apologies for absence over the weekend, bck and raring to go.

What is today's babystep?

My shoes are on although my sink is not shiny soon will be though when I log off here

GoldenSnitch · 07/09/2009 08:30

Things went a bit downhill yesterday afternoon.. Will redeem myself today

Countingthegreyhairs · 07/09/2009 08:56

Hello again everyone.

It's great this thread is moving so fast but I can't keep up! Everyone is doing brilliantly and no - it is never too late to join in - welcome everyone!!

The step for today (posted last night) should have read Monday 7th of course (apologies)!!

Here it is again just in case you were confused by my muddling things up:

Monday 7th September

here's for tomorrow

Tuesday 8th September - you need a ring-binder for this one

and here is a complete list of all the steps that we are following throughout September - synchronising with the day's date - in case you are catching up or want to get ahead

Shoppingveggie · 07/09/2009 11:07

Morning all

Got quite a lot to do today, one thing I need to do is sew on Beaver and Cub badges as it's Beaver night tonight and Cubs tomorrow - I have had all summer to do this! So, I am going to do it while I watch Loose Women - makes me feel better about sitting down to watch it .

Before that though, I need to:

Put washing on line
Put another wash on
Put aired clothes away
and a big job:
Clear out the Utility room, this is full of recycling, dirty clothes and general "stuff" - a real hotspot.

Right, off to get it all done.

blissa · 07/09/2009 11:15

Morning all

Didn't do very much yesterday, but I did manage to clean up the kitchen after cooking a roast last night. Everything was washed up, dried and put away (normally would have been left to dry overnight) and I wiped over the hob and sink.

Oh and I did tackle one of the hotspots, sorted out all the shoes and put stuff away.

Today I have tackled the other one, have sorted out toys to go to the charity shop and stuff to go upstairs. Need to hoover and still haven't mopped the floor

Hope your dds hand is ok PA

deepdarkwood · 07/09/2009 12:26

Hello all
Our first day back at school today, so esp good to have the clothes-the-night-before step in time to make my Monday morning that bit less stressful - I remember finding this a hugely useful step on the last two times I've started fly-ing. Had the unexpected side-effect of making my think through my wardrobe, rather than just grabbing the nearest jeans...

GoldenSnitch · 07/09/2009 12:43

So far:

Have dressed me and DS (I don't wear make-up unless I'm going out and don't like shoes in the house - feet should be free )
Have wiped down the kitchen sides
Have made breakfast
Have wiped down the kitchen
Have mostly cleaned the fridge (just the door to do)
Have put away the Tesco delivery
Have cleaned up after DS's accident!
Have taken DS to swimming lesson
Have loaded washing machine
Have made lunch

Next is finishing the fridge clean and sweeping and mopping the kitchen floor. Might try wiping out the cupboards too and the door fronts. Nesting is definitely kicking in which is helping

Not sure I'm going to be getting out a 3 ring binder or picking out my clothes though - I don't quite get how that would help...
