Come on you slatterns, get your arses in gear, I stop posting for 2 days and you all start getting lazy................

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 27/12/2008 18:43

didn't see a single bump of a slattersn thread in the 2 days I've lurked. So here we are - a brand new slatterns thread to take us over to the new year (where I think we can safely say that one of our NY Resolution won't be keeping teh house tidy at all times )

I can officialy say that:

Paper lists of things to do are SHIT. They don't work, they don't tell you how well you're doing when you update to say what you've done, they get lost under the stuff still to be sorted, and they don't give you other unrelated banter while you're having a rest from it all

So - with that in mind.

Tonight (and I use the word quite loosely as I've slept the last 2 nights so suspect there will be little sleep to be found tonight) I need to:

  • Get my washing done
  • Dry it
  • Iron it all (it's taking over the dining room!)
  • Tidy and hoover the lounge
  • Clean kitchen worktops
  • Empty kitchen bins
  • Put dishwasher on

May add more stuff later as I realise it needs doing.

right - going to have a last push and try and get in here done...............I may be a while

OP posts:
goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 04/01/2009 15:19

ok taking a break - I'm just packing up stuff that we don't "need" off the bookcase, photos from the drawers etc.

Need to stop to compose myself as getting myself all in a state over it

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 04/01/2009 15:31

Faq - in a sad state because of moving on or a happy state because of moving on?
I think it should be a happy one....

  • ironing DONE
  • remove stuff from our room to reclaim it and find new homes for it (or get rid....) started
  • tidy guest rooms started
  • get rid of lots of stuff we've cleared out to freecycle/charity shop/rubbish tip started
  • ebay/freecycle unwanted presents (sorry, harsh but true), esp ones for the DCs as they have so much already
  • Xmas decs put away in loft
  • tidy post decs down DONE
  • try and find new homes for all new things
  • spend some time playing with our own new toys (ipod docking thing, etc...) started
  • get back on track with weight loss...
  • pack for Center Parcs started
  • check cat food supplies DONE
  • package up slippers to post to sister
  • sort kitchen & dishwasher DONE
  • strip beds monday morning ready for cleaners to remake on tuesday ( that i have cleaners and that i still live in chaos!!!)
  • check spare bedlinen is clean & dry DONE
  • leave notes for cleaners & cat feeder
  • pre-register for C.P. DONE
  • check borrowed bike rack fits our car & DH's bike DONE
  • move books from playroom upstairs & books out of DCs new room to new spare room (maybe getting rid of some on the way....!)
  • reorganise playroom, more toys to bedroom, etc.
  • postbox DONE

brr, it's cold outside!

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 04/01/2009 15:33

sad state, think it was a combination of all the photos, mostly older ones (as the last couple of years have all been "digital"), reminder of what things once were, and the reality of starting to pack stuff up so that when I find somewhere to move to I have less to rush around packing.

Had a fag so slightly sorted again now, going to get back and finish sorting the bookcase out, I only have 1 1/2hrs until the boys get back (well he'll bring them back between 5 and 6 - could be 5.59 they come back but need to be ready for 5).

OP posts:
JustKeepSwimming · 04/01/2009 15:38

More nostalgia then?
Must be lots to think about...

At least if you're ready for 5, but they turn up at 5.59 you've had an hour to chill. though i would find it a little annoying not to know.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 04/01/2009 15:49

there is, it's horrible packing up to move, I'd do anything to stay here, but I know there's nothing can be done and I have to move.

Odd that I have to move because keeping the house wasn't sustainable after exH and I split, but looking at the photos from years ago we were so happy .

LRB978 · 04/01/2009 16:05

FAQ, you may find a new house is a helpful thing though. The happier memories are contained in the photos, and all the negative memories in the house will be gone.

I've been there, and I know how hard it is, but moving house gives you a chance to draw a line under life so far and start afresh. Give yourself time whilst packing though, take breaks whenever you need, and let yourself remember whatever comes to you.

NCBirdy · 04/01/2009 16:12

Tidy front room
Sort recycling done
Load dishwasher done
Wipe down kitchen sides
sweep through downstairs
Wade through 5 loads of washing started
get bedrooms back to normal form following the retreat of the invading forces
Shower myself done
Bath young children done
Shower older children (well tell them to anyway!) done
Buy last bits of uniform done
Take film for processing done

Off to tackle bedrooms now as the downstairs stuff can be done tonight if needs be!

FAQ, I am familiar with the nostalgia feeling, I do sometimes look back and wonder what on earth happened when just 5 years ago we were joking about how cross my parents would be if I was divorced within 5 years (they paid for the wedding). We made it 1 year before we seperated. The reasons were good and there was no way to change it but I still catch myself sighing about the past. I had thought that my marriage would be the end of my struggles. Turns out it was just the start

Oh bum, I have just realised I have not bought the packed lunch stuff for tomorrow [arrgghhh]

IllegallyBrunette · 04/01/2009 16:18

Vacuum all of downstairs done
Take xmas decs down and put them away done

Still need to wash up
Cook dinner but only need to do the pots and veg
Find paperwork for tommorow
Tidy dinning room
Tidy kitchen

Think I am just about done then. Just going to have a well earned cuppa.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 04/01/2009 16:31

lol - the old photos I've been looking at weren't taken in this house - we got the digital camera just before we moved here. so they're all the really photos. I'd already "moved on" - in this house, I picture my future here with the DS's, obviously not meant to be........>>>

OP posts:

Sort recycling done
Load dishwasher done
Wipe down kitchen sides
sweep through downstairs
Wade through 5 loads of washing further along
get bedrooms back to normal form following the retreat of the invading forces done (well the beds and matresses are back in the correct rooms with the correct covers etc)
Shower myself done
Bath young children done
Shower older children (well tell them to anyway!) done
Buy last bits of uniform done
Take film for processing done

Additional bits to carry forward
Tidy bedrooms

Can we have a ban on lists that just keep adding to themselves? I know it is not very realistic but it is so depressing when your nearly complete list becomes a hardly started really list during the course of a day

JustKeepSwimming · 04/01/2009 17:41

Wow, you all sound like you've had a busy day!

Pecka, hope the party went well.

FAQ, how's the fingers now? Hope you're feeling ok after your clear out. I agree with JKS about the happy moving on thing.

So, my list for today went something like this:

-Get myself and the DCs washed and dressed done
-Breakfast done
-Wash up, dry and put away done
-Clean kitchen surfaces done
-At least 2 loads of washing done
-Food shopping done
-Iron school uniform and work clothes (Still to do)
-Find DD's school books and reading record half done (we have found one reading book and the record, but still have one to find)
-Sort out too small baby clothes for friend done
-Clean bathroom including washing the floor and putting the mats back down in the bathroom done
-Big bath night
-Put clothes away Half done

Actually, added to that list I have hoovered the entire house and quickly tidied round.

DD has been an absolute dream today so that has helped me get on and stay calm!

So, all in all a very productive day. I'm all set for work tomorrow now!

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 04/01/2009 18:59

DS1 came into the room and went "oh WOW" - because of how tidy it is (he hadn't even ntoiced the tree and deocrations had come down he was that shocked about how tid it was LOL)

OP posts:
