Evening all - a very lean day today but added to the charity shop bag with a black ribbed long sleeved top that’s too small for me & a faded sponge bag that was holding some of my jewellery. DH has put 2 more acrylic necklace holders on the bedroom wall.

ememem84 · 05/10/2025 19:32

Since last post on 13 sept I have got rid of:

  • purple shampoo (Lee Stafford) - used up
  • bar soap - used up
  • razor - binned
  • Moroccan oil hair oil - finished

have charity shopped two bags which included a lot of ds’ pjs, and some of my clothes.

listed 3 bags and a pair of shoes on eBay. One bag has sold today.

also dropped two glass casserole dishes. Corresponding lids gone.

and used up a notebook and 2 pens in the office.

LR47 · 05/10/2025 21:51

Had a sort out of the kids’ clothes. Outs:

a coat
a pair of pyjamas

total outs 1043

Good morning all! Ready to start a new de - cluttering week & feeling determined! I’ve achieved a lot but the house is still way too full. It’s the bags for life everywhere that get to me the most plus the ever growing pile on the landing outside DD16’s room.
Think I may have posted about doing a tabletop sale. It would be a fun thing to do with DD, although I doubt I would get as much for my clothes as selling them online. Having said that, a lot of the clothes have been sitting on FB Marketplace for several weeks. I actually invested in some stuff from charity shops to try to sell on for a profit but it’s not been very successful.
This must be at least the 3rd time I have said it - DEFINITELY clearing out the storage cubes in the lounge today!! And I still have necklaces left to display so need to order another holder on Temu. Shame it’s a £15 minimum order. I use Clearpay to spread the cost. Have a great tidying & sorting day!!

stealthninjamum · 06/10/2025 09:21

I’ve spent longer in the Room of Doom which looks like an explosion of papers and cards. There is a desk in there now. This morning I found two robot toys which I’ll probably sell and two books - one of which is Holes. Dc both studied that book in primary and secondary schools and would lose books so I’d buy more. I’m sure I’ve got rid of 5 before today’s! When will they stop appearing?

kryptonfactor · 06/10/2025 15:21

Another item sold on vinted and threw out an old pair of jogging bottoms that had a bleach stain and a bobble hat that had seen better days. Also delighted that my 'big' vinted sale went through without a hitch, though my decluttering is very much not about the money, I am undeniably pleased to get over £100 for something that had been sitting in a drawer for a decade!

Riverswims · 06/10/2025 18:49

I think this is the thread I was on? I recognise some of the names.hope everyone’s well 🙏🏽 i’ve tried to post many times and then I give up because (a) I’m on my phone too much and (b) I do get demoralised. yeah clearly we took too much to this “new” house despite massive racial decluttering and I get so frustrated by the fact that everyone wants a nice house and to have friends round but it’s only me that sorts it example; I asked the younger 2 to go through the books that I wanted to recycle today to make sure that I wasn’t recycling something they wanted, but my youngest just refused to do it only her sister did but there you are 🫠 today recycled five big bags of books and then there was about five bags of other stuff to the recycling centre and I just brought back one framed print also (c) I do get sometimes get triggered by sentimental clutter and hearing about other people’s 🥺 so I won’t go into too much detail in case I upset someone else 🥺
I’ve got 3 bags of clothes being collected tomorrow and uniform can go to the appropriate person then I’ll have “my” I’m a tennant utility room back!
until next time best of luck x

IncessantNameChanger · 06/10/2025 19:48

@Riverswims I'm currently trying to get three of my kids to try things on for me that look outgrown. I think sometimes it's best to just make that desision for them. But then you really want them to engage with the process

LR47 · 06/10/2025 22:30

outs:

a pair of pyjamas
a board game
2 DVDs

total this year 1047

IndianSummer78 · 06/10/2025 23:24

I remember you riverswims. Sentimental declutter is the hardest definitely. If everyone is leaving it to you and won't engage I reckon that means you can make all the decisions then and if they don't like it if you make a mistake and get rid of something they want to keep, that's their tough luck. I don't know what it is about moving home, it always makes you realise you brought too much stuff.

Two dresses and a pair of shoes I don't like. Total is 4022

BunnyLover7 · 06/10/2025 23:56

Advertised another pendant given to me by an ex & which I hardly wear.

CheesePlantFeet · 07/10/2025 08:12

My cupboard under the stairs makes me happy! I'm clearly very sad, but it does. It's so organised and tidy and I can find things in there! The magical power of decluttering!

DD has sorted through one of her drawers and I've sold some stuff on vinted. Need to re list or charity shop a bunch that's been on for a few weeks.

I would very much like to sort the loft. But DH seems resistant to it and I'm reliant on him bringing stuff down so I can sort through. I will probably wait until he gets the Christmas decorations down at the end of the month and see if he'll bring a few things down then.

Outs:
Charity shop: spice jars, set of beads, stationery set, keyring, notebook
Bin / recycling: old slippers
Vinted/sold locally: suit, 2x books

Total 1729

IndianSummer78 · 07/10/2025 13:43

25 documents shredded.
Total is 4047

CherryRipe1 · 07/10/2025 15:51

DD sold some bits on Vinted and eBay but she's away so I posted them off for her, our local parcel shop is really close so no big deal.

Musicaltheatremum · 07/10/2025 17:35

I'm new to this though I did post on a thread earlier this yearthat I needed to declutter but did nothing.
My FIL died in August and he was a major hoarder. He hasld 5 garages full of stuff. Whilst he was in hospital we spent the mornings sorting 3 of the garages. Middle one keep, one for rubbish and one for auction room/ charity
Clearance firm came to remove stuff. 1.3 tonnes of stuff went to the tip. Including a railway line!!
So we have 2 empty garages now, one with garden stuff, one with junk from his current house and one which is a "workshop" full of amazing tools which will go to auction.
Trying to stop husband bringing too much back here.
I've been in my house 31 years and brought my children up here. We have cleared out a lot of things recently to make room for other stuff. There's a lot of emotional stuff coming from my husband's parents house that we need to keep just now and I've been getting rid of anniversary cards from my first husband who died so ouch a lot of emotional baggage for me too!
So have filled the recycling bin again.
Trying to do 2-3 hours again.
Need to keep going!

stealthninjamum · 07/10/2025 18:38

riverswims welcome back, I remember your name. 5 bags of books and 3 of clothes is amazing. I think you did the right thing by giving your dc the chance to look at the books before they left the house. Sometimes you need to make a massive start and then get family members used to living in a less cluttered house so they’re happy to declutter themselves.

musicaltheatremum I’m sorry you’ve had bereavements that have necessitated such a big declutter. I’ve not had any relatives die myself but I can imagine how emotional it would be. 💐 (exfil has a garage and shed full of tools but fortunately no railway line).

More room of doom today. My pile of papers that I don’t know what to do with is finally only about a cm tall. I found some papers to go and shredded them and moved some bits to our memory boxes. I put up two paintings that had been in the wardrobe since we moved in about 15 years ago. They were bought for the last house but I could never find a place for them in this house until today.

BunnyLover7 · 07/10/2025 19:36

Very busy day so not much done. I feel like hibernating atm! This morning I collected some of the rings I’m buying from a friend ( I know, I know, I’m supposed to be getting rid of stuff!) She has a stunning collection of jewellery and is letting it go at bargain prices. I’ve chosen 10 rings & may well decide to sell some of them on for a profit, although it will be hard to let any go.

ememem84 · 07/10/2025 21:54

Two bags sold on eBay. So they went up the post today.

mused up a mascara and a brow pencil. On to the next ones from the stash.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 08/10/2025 09:03

Had a wee tidy in my bedroom and cleared a hotspot.

Decluttered two cardboard shoeboxes into paper recycling bin. .

One larger box set aside for DD.

I’ve largely finished the study (formerly known as the room of doom). I threw out loads of papers, there’s still too much in there but it’s all organised and everything has a home.

i spent too long doing it so the rest of the house has got messy. I’m going to do a big tidy today and then start on 5 mins a day in the playroom and then my daily 15 minute reset of decluttered areas which can now include the study.

Todays outs include some materials I found in the playroom.

Riverswims · 08/10/2025 15:07

reduced 2 big moving boxes to going into existing small baskets in daughters room, still lots of little bits but I think that’s the nature of pre/teens a few broken headphones turned up for the dump. found the box of something that needs to go back to Aldi. 1 more box to do in there

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 08/10/2025 20:00

@stealthninjamum well done! That’s quite an achievement and must feel great.

I emptied a storage tub in my bedroom and took it down to the utility. It was weird to find that there was space in a drawer for the contents of the tub.

Almost all my paperwork is in my office. The next stage is to prioritise and catch up.

Forgot the tiny declutter - one pack of ancient battered children’s nursery rhyme playing cards went into the paper recycling
