Had a look through the large collection of wrapping paper and gift bags. Got rid of 1 roll of unopened poster paper and 10 gift bags - 2 of which were from christening gifts to my daughter 16 years ago, I feel bad for getting rid of them because they feel sentimental somehow🤣

December and I can stop decluttering books!! I jut need to get rid of them now. Taking some to work tomorrow....

Today is day 334, I think. Decluttered a big jar of hair mask which made my hair super greasy.

Hasthisreallyhappened · 02/12/2025 08:31

Did quite a bit a couple of days ago but have been really struggling recently. Got to have an op which will mean I’ll have to keep my feet up for awhile so I’ve been trying to sort out things that I can do while I’m sat on the sofa like sifting through bags of paperwork.

Let a couple of DH’s bags of clothes that I’d organised awhile ago leave the house on Sunday. Part of me feels really emotional about letting them go but it won’t be long and it will have been a year and a lot longer than a year since he last wore any of it.

emotionally, I’ve been a lot angry recently so I’m channelling that anger into throwing tat away. I was struggling with the cups in the cup cupboard as I bought some more stupidly the other day but I put some in a garage cupboard that we use for when we have trades, et cetera, here and I don’t want to use the good stuff

I still haven’t got the loft which I was hoping to do before Christmas and won’t happen now but the garage although messy again is definitely a lot more empty than it was

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 02/12/2025 09:25

Yesterday - one holey sock and one pair of holey socks into ragbag. (I wear old odd socks in bed.)

Edited to add six children’s foreign language books to sell/donate.

Dd trainers fell apart yesterday. So off to the bin they went. I measured her feet and she has shot up in sizes. She is almost a size 2 now and most of her trainers are a size 13 but I'm not going to buy any until none fit ( she insists they do fit) as she has got a least pairs. I'm having more luck on Vinted right now which is good. I really do need another last push for sales before Christmas as I know it will dead after.

Booked a doorstep collection for Friday. Might still make my 2025 target but I'm happy if I need to roll over a few hundred into next years target too.

Well I randomly sold a t-shirt on vinted today that had been languishing there for months! So that's day 335, and £4, ha.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/12/2025 23:05

I have a doorstep collection booked for tomorrow and hopefully I will be taking the toddler bed to the dump. Bag of socks and too small uniform to drop off at dds school to.

I have a shed size storage locker hired so going to take all the random crap from my living room to storage tomorrow so we can put the tree up. Storage had almost been emptied out but it might be 1/3 full again tomorrow. It's worth it for a calm living room over Christmas. The idea is I bring home a box a week after Christmas then get rid of the storage unit. It's been useful while shuffling around bedrooms but I know generally they are a bad idea for hoarders.

Anyway I'm not a hoarder any more. But got to be realistic, even with no buying or very low buying I still have years of stuff to get rid of. Most rooms are OK but my room is a big mess. My games room / snug is a bomb site and so is the dinning room. Still, it's getting there. Looking forward to what the eldest will think when he is home from uni.

I’m actually in a similar position regarding storage. I think we might do the same @IncessantNameChanger- give myself the gift of an easier house for Xmas

Well done @IncessantNameChanger it’s lovely that you are no longer a hoarder, such a huge achievement. I hope your ds can recognise the efforts you’ve been making.

I have actually taken three bags of stuff to the charity and chucked out some old screws in the big cupboard in the utility room. I’m quite flummoxed how they got there as I only tidied that cupboard a few weeks ago. Must ask dd1 as she the most likely culprit. I’m still very slowly sorting through Lego.

IncessantNameChanger · 03/12/2025 17:36

Thank you everyone for the encouragement. The storage unit is a necessary evil sometimes. Until everything is back in its rightfull home I can't get much further and seeing boxes of things I have thrown mindlessly in the past when guests turn up around is overwhelming. I can see how many boxes are in storage so that's a mental visual of how much more I have to do.

Sold 5 more things on Vinted today as well. Dd is finally having a growth spurt so I think she will have another big clear out soon. She has had about 6 massive sort outs this year. But I'm going to say there's a limit on what she has of each item going forward. So 1 pair of trainers, not 6. 4 joggers not ten. She has everything fitted away nicely but still so much she barely wears. She still has more clothes than her brothers and that's still not great as she has the smallest room as the youngest. Would be nice to have a empty draw or two or half empty wardrobe.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 03/12/2025 20:13

I got yesterday’s declutter out of the house. Added a straw hat, a small backpack and a black shoulder bag.

Found - three lounging trousers and a teeshirt that fit.

DH took all the Pass your driving test books and discs, and a few books to read on the road. He always has something to read in his backpack.

Teen decided she wanted my makeup and nail varnishes as I never use makeup now. She also claimed my mum’s hair curlers. She used a bath bomb I didn’t want and we lit up a chiminea I had found.

Been quiet lately but have chucked or donated the odd thing, including an M & S snowglobe which doesn’t have quite enough water in it. Might have a sort through the Christmas decorations box today. And will definitely put the charity shop bags in my boot! Been saying that for weeks!

Vinorosso74 · 04/12/2025 09:13

Wrapped some Christmas presents yesterday. We seem to have more wrapping paper and gift tags than I realised. I hadn't bought any but don't think we'll use up what we have!
Got a bag for the charity shop. Hope to drop that off at the weekend.
Doing well keeping on top of the day to day stuff but not much else.

CheesePlantFeet · 04/12/2025 15:25

Listed some more on vinted and cleared out some stuff that hasn't sold

Charity shop: vase, handbag, dvd
Bin / recycling: very tatty book
Vinted/sold locally: 10x books

Yesterday - DH appears to be making a real effort to start on the garage, and set aside a few offcuts and ends of pipes. Like me, he struggles to reach top shelves that he could reach a few years ago, and no longer has his previous for heavy items.

But I’m running out of patience, partly because we’ve been having the same decluttering-related conversations ever since several elderly relatives died or went into homes and it fell to us (me) to sort out their belongings.

He took a flask from the kitchen stash instead of buying a new one. If it doesn’t keep his tea hot, it can be decluttered and he moves on to the next flask.

My personal declutter was four odd socks.

One more toy out on Vinted. Thought I had decluttered the marble run too, but the kids staged an intervention 😂.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/12/2025 19:35

So I have had a really busy week but can report I got rid of a large chest of draws on Tuesday that has freed up space in a cupboard. I am rearranging the living room to get the Christmas tree in so hopefully that will help sort a load of stuff out too.
