I’ve been going through the stuff and so far i have only got rid of a piece of cardboard someone gave me as a joke and my UCCA form. Some of the letters are so funny. I am tempted to get a folder for each person and to send them snippets of the letters to get back in touch. I had some awesome friends and we wrote regularly when we were at different universities. I have a feeling I’m not going to be able to get rid of many of them - but maybe that’s not a bad thing?

Those are lovely things to find/have. I would keep those. My new memory boxes are A4 size and about a shoe box depth. Honestly I have a four bed house, surely Im allowed to have that much space in it for stuff that matters to me. I know my kids won’t have the same connection to it and that is honestly fine - once I’m dead they can chuck it. I think that is rather different than my mums “approach” of having sentimental stuff strewn everywhere throughout the house. Meant everything had to be checked whilst i was clearing the place.

kryptonfactor · 03/10/2025 08:31

Another bundle sold on vinted so that'll be three items out today. One was actually a dress that I was considering keeping but oh well, I can always get something similar if I want it for summer next year. Going to list a bag this morning which I hope will sell quickly.

stealthninjamum · 03/10/2025 09:11

Thanks gassylady I can see i’m going to keep a lot of the stuff but in a smaller box. I’ll keep it in folders by person and put a note on top for when I die saying none of these letters are of financial value so they can be thrown away.

I have just spent another 30 mins going through my last box. There is a big pile of cards to be shredded and a few old leaflets.

There are just so many letters and cards. Loads from people I don’t remember and some I’m starting to remember. Slightly emotional, I clearly had lots of friends and now being a single mum of two autistic kids it has hit home how isolated I am. Maybe that’s just being an adult woman with responsibilities?

Nearly forgot to say I found cards from a much loved aunt and granny who both died when I was young. I felt quite emotional when I saw them.

Taken things to the charity shop for the first time in years as I had some sparkly little black type dresses. Not sure people in poverty in the third world have much call for those! I'm surprised the charity shop took them so I will take more next week. As said before my socail life is coffee, lunch, pub, book club and evenings at mates houses.

Day 275, kids coat

I sold one coat on vinted but as this didn't sell Ithought I'd take it in as the season is right. A small charity shop bundle is forming again!

IncessantNameChanger · 03/10/2025 16:34

I'm not having much luck on Vinted. I find if it doesn't sell in 24 hours it's unlikely to sell. Ironically I had a little White Company dress on for £12. I took it off and resisted at £10 but had more views at the higher price! I might put it for £15 and say I will take offers.

BunnyLover7 · 04/10/2025 06:52

Good morning from wet & windy Cornwall. Just remembered that before I broke my arm, I was planning to do a tabletop sale with DD. £10 a pitch. I have so much just sitting on Marketplace which keeps getting reduced & reduced. Sold a brand new pair of shoes for £2 recently (cost £14). The clothes I have will no doubt go for less at the sale but at least they might go! I have jeans BNWT for £1 on Marketplace that cost £20 in a catalogue! Plus it will be fun to do something with DD & she will hopefully have another clear out & add to her concert fund.
Unfortunately the amber ring didn’t sell. I’ve invested in some unique pieces at knockdown prices from a friend who is having a massive clear out to help pay her daughter’s vet bills so I will keep some & sell some, although that will be hard as they are all gorgeous! She’s dealt in “proper” gemstones from an early age & her ring collection is like Aladdin’s cave. And the stories she tells of where the stones come from, how they are mined etc - I could listen to her all day!

stealthninjamum · 04/10/2025 08:32

I have finished going through the Last Box. I have a massive pile of stuff that I will shred and smaller piles of post from people I kept. The biggest pile of letters is from ‘random’ people that I don’t remember. A couple
were writing to me for about four years and we seemed close. I have only read snippets. At this stage I’m going to put them in named envelopes and a big box and I’ll read them another time.

I picked up a second hand desk. It won’t go in the room of doom yet as there are piles of crap on the floor. My aim is to finish sorting it all this weekend so the desk can go in.

IndianSummer78 · 04/10/2025 14:03

I think the friends thing is partly modern life too stealth. Most people seem to be only having friendships via the various messaging services these days and rarely if ever meeting up. I don't have many friends because of it (I'm only really interested in meeting up, I find the messaging side of things pretty pointless and a time-drain, so it's not something I'll do if it's all that's on offer).

One eye cream finished up and a DVD box set donated. Total is 4016

Vinorosso74 · 04/10/2025 17:25

I've not actually been at home much this week so haven't really achieved much other than keeping on top of teh day to day clutter.
Made a sale on Vinted so that item amd one of my stash of postage bags which I save went. Put my toes through some socks so one pair less!

Pigtailsandall · 04/10/2025 17:39

Day 276, one kidding book to donation bsh. Building a small bundle to take out. We're growing out of picture books which is very bittersweet

IncessantNameChanger · 04/10/2025 19:16

I have sold some waterproof kids trousers on Vinted.

Sorted out the kids Christmas jumpers so the too small will be sold on. Need to do the same for the Halloween bits too really. Bought some new Hallween dress up and bundled on some bits for dd from Vinted so got to do at least two outs for those ins which is doable.

Me and dh are sorting out ds room who's at uni. Ds took the wrong duvet so now we have all the duvets and bedding out to pair up, dry clean and possibly thin out.

So much crap I feel overwhelmed with the mismatched bedding but I must not give in. It's got to cleaned. Sorted then vacuum packed. Then his room is ready for the other ds to take over.

Then it's the playroom which has turned into Xbox den and dumping ground. Then the garage. If we are careful and stay focused we might manage a tip run tomorrow but also got a uni viewing for ds17 and a Karate tournament for ds13!

LR47 · 04/10/2025 20:04

Sold and posted an item on Vinted

total outs 1041

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 04/10/2025 20:46

Out today - two plastic tubs into recycling trolley.
Small piece of packaging into paper bin.

Five amazon boxes set aside for DD to take away tomorrow for her own storage area.

Not much decluttering here over the past fortnight, as I had started sorting on all the sentimental stuff in my bedroom and found it too hard to do more than tidy it into boxes and store for later.

I’ve faced the fact that no-one is going to show an interest, or listen as I ramble and reminisce. In a way, that’s rather freeing, as it lets me do what I want without feeling any responsibility other than to my own mental health.

I’m also sorting through all the papers in the house in order to file them in my new office, ie a corner of the understairs cupboard with a large shelf and a space for a chair. It’s difficult to keep track when school has some stuff on paper, some in emails, and sometimes texts from a variety of phone numbers. If I can’t touch something, it doesn’t seem to exist.

eta - added short phrase for clarity.

BunnyLover7 · 05/10/2025 06:40

Forgot I chucked a foundation & recycled the bottle. I have so much make up & never bother putting any on. I haven’t really since the pandemic.

CherryRipe1 · 05/10/2025 09:05

Used up a load of miniature shampoo, conditioner etc bottles stolen erm acquired during hotel visits & recycled them. Not been doing much decluttering lately as it's got to a manageable level generally around the house but stuff still needs to go, clothes, shoes, belts, bags. I'm putting off the loft of doom & garage from hell until next year I think.

Realfastfoodie · 05/10/2025 10:41

I’ve not been keeping up with the thread. I managed quite a lot in September. October has slowed down but I have managed a bunch of vinted sales, which is nice. Planning a big charity shop run later as I’ve got about 200 things in bags to go now.

stealthninjamum · 05/10/2025 11:57

@TidyClutterIsStillClutter snap! I have also just ‘finished’ the final box in the room of doom. It was loads of letters. Some I read that really made me laugh and some upset me. They are now filed in neat envelopes by person and one day I will read them but I have become aware that I am too fragile mentally so will wait until I’m better. Or maybe I won’t read them again. I’ll put a sign in all the box telling dc the contents and that they can throw them away if I die!

i have a huge pile of shredding and letters to be recycled. I’ll do that gradually. I’ve spent too much time on the room of doom as I’m behind on the rest of the house.

I put two dvds.in the donate pile.

kryptonfactor · 05/10/2025 12:30

Another bundle and one other item sold on vinted over the last few days so that's four items total. Only around ten pounds made in total but out they go!

FinallyGetRid · 05/10/2025 13:44

Cleared out two drawers - most of it went in the recycling and a food cupboard, so many half used bags of pasta

Acheyelbows · 05/10/2025 17:23

Been too busy at work and ongoing migraines to make any big dents but I've brought seven annuals, a jigsaw, 3 tins of novelty books to work which I will either use in my room or donate to colleagues.

Today I tackled the front garden and filled two brown bins and four black sacks with leaves, seeds and twigs. The storm took a lot of leaves down and some had been just piled to the side of the garage with the leaf vac.

Threw out the contents of the fridge which spoiled when the power went out on Friday so that looks nice and clear.

Poisonwood · 05/10/2025 17:39

Very productive day - three large black bags of outgrown children’s toys etc away, and they did a lot of the decision making themselves. We’re gutting one of their bedrooms out and the built in wardrobe is being changed to a cosy fairy-light den/reading haven.

IndianSummer78 · 05/10/2025 18:15

Love the idea of the den poisonwood

One pair of trousers with damaged faux leather trim gone. Total is 4019
