Just when I think I’ve ’finished’ the room of doom I find another box. There were two remaining boxes in the wardrobe and I thought they were my personal things. It turned it was another box of children’s art, school reports, certificates and schoolwork. I spent 20 minutes going though it but it’ll take a few more days as I’m trying to only do 5 mins a day. I found papers that I could shred and art that I binned. I also took a couple of empty boxes to the playroom where I started sorting Lego about three years ago. When the room of doom is done I’ll finish the playroom and make it into a classroom for dd2s home schooling.

LivingInaBuiltSite · 25/09/2025 17:39

Stealth - that reminds me of, was it the Slob lady, who said ‘just look inside’ when you think you know what’s in a box or cupboard. Can’t remember it exactly but sure it was something like that.

i am having issues with the MN site, for days it just showed me a celebration page and I couldn’t post anything, and now it’s really glitching and slow.

but in big news here, I have finally reached the end of the theory part of my work portfolio. Whoop!! I have corrections to do, and the practical side to finish, but it’s felt never ending up until now!

Jobs:

  1. Hang up framed pictures: this has now changed to critically go through the framed artwork as we’ve agreed we don’t actually want all of it?
  2. my British passport application - passport application form; not started yet
  3. DS1’s gaming, PC, nerf collections to go through and tidy & his bedroom now he’s gone to uni
  4. Portfolio work - up to 90% completed and marked correct, approx 10% needs correcting, EVERY QUESTION ATTEMPTED!
  5. Bathroom redecoration: need to find a mirror and some artwork

Not quite outs yet:
holey pants bag from DD
floristy wire to return to a friend

Out:
675

@LivingInaBuiltSite yes it probably was Dana k white who said that. I’ve been decluttering for about 9 years (but probably maintaining for about 2) apart from the Room of Doom. The Last Box contains letters from friends in my teens and 20s and love letters and an awful letter in which my first boyfriend dumped me. I saw two boxes today and assumed they might both contain the love letters but in fact my cleaner had put a load of school crap in them. So I have another couple of weeks of stuff before I get to
rhe love letters. Maybe I’ll burn them!

Took a whole boot full of DH’s good clothes to the charity shop a few villages away. It took a whole lot of gumption but now the bedroom is tidier as I’ve put a lot of stuff away now. Still a lot to do but finally feel I made progress.

bought myself new bedding today. Feel I need a fresh start now the fog is lifting.

Sold a presentation pack of Winnie The Pooh & Friends Collectible Coins for £30 so well chuffed. They have been gathering dust in a pile for years. The collection is one short but that doesn’t bother the buyer. I have advertised a silver & diamond pendant which has never been worn, 2 Rotary watches & a Rotary watch with matching bracelet which I actually had for my wedding but barely wore afterwards. Think they may be priced a little high. Still, I only paid £5 for one of them so should definitely make a profit! Trying to decide when to advertise my sparkly dresses, heels & handbags - maybe a bit closer to Christmas?

I normally lurk on this thread, but just wanted to say I've just bought a sequinned skirt from Vinted, and when I was searching there were a few available, and lots favourited, so it might not be too early 🤔

Just minor chipping away here in the study upstairs. Have ordered some nice boxes to put my memory stuff from my childhood website, the parcel has finally arrived. But we have all been poorly with a horrid virus. Will try and do this weekend. The Billy bookcase in there is parting company with its back board so will see it’s possible to put some books elsewhere and not replace it.

IndianSummer78 · 26/09/2025 14:50

A pair of threadbare socks and false lashes binned. Total is 3967

Congratulations on your sales bunny lover

Pigtailsandall · 26/09/2025 17:02

Forgot to post again cause I am crappy. But days 266, 267 and 268 I returned a pair of kids' gardening gloves, and got rid of 2 more school jumpers. I now have 5 school jumpers for DC, but they are all nice ones. We really shouldn't need more, and they grow SO FAST. I was holding onto the tatty ones as a backup but I'm getting fed up with backups!!

I also took a pile of paper stuff to the office and shredded them. Very satisfying.

stealthninjamum · 26/09/2025 19:16

Another ten minutes in the Room of Doom. A couple of bits of art chucked out and 5 year 2 maths books.

i also did the cupboard under the stairs (for the second time in a month). Outs include a big paper bag, a shopping bag, a scarf, some wellies and trainers (but they were because I bought new ones for dd1 yesterday)

Acheyelbows · 27/09/2025 07:46

Yesterday I sorted through work resources and recycled or binned where appropriate:

  • two display signs (made in 2015)
  • replaced three strips of torn display board borders
  • made a pile of workbooks to be passed on to colleagues
  • ten pages of glance cards
  • bundle of resources printed and never used
  • workbook from the 80s binned, language outdated and old fashioned

At home

  • ten plastic copy covers
  • two dictionaries put aside to bring to work

Hopefully will do a bit more this weekend. Had a bad headache every night this week, which I'm blaming work for, so haven't gotten anything done at home, regular chores included.
Garden is overgrown but waiting on a quote from a maintenance person who might call fortnightly to get a handle on it. Back full time, I just can't do it all.

BunnyLover7 · 27/09/2025 10:50

Hall cleared of charity shop bags & I took the Mousetrap game too, although it’s so dusty I think I need to bring it back indoors to clean! Still debating whether to get rid of our mini table football. We never play but the rabbits are super cute when they press the levers! 3 more tins to donate to the food bank. Unfortunately my Rotary watches & a matching bracelet for one of them that I took to be valued weren’t bought as they were after solid gold but I’ve advertised them as they are nice pieces. Photographing all my sparkly things in a bit, including a lovely Jane Norman dress.Gearing up to tackle a kitchen cupboard so no doubt there will be more chucking! This really is proving very therapeutic ❤️

LR47 · 27/09/2025 12:39

Daughter sorted through hair stuff and got rid of loads - will class it as 2 bundles
Gave 3 small items to school for the tombola
binned a load of work rubbish - will class as one bundle.

total outs 1002 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

IncessantNameChanger · 27/09/2025 13:07

Dd is back from her school trip so I'm going to throw out some of the clothes she took. Her trainer soles fell completely off!

Also need to do another pass of the kids socks and underwear. I'm not going to replace any until we go on our next holiday. If they have enough for ten days right now that will suffice. Normally they have at least 20 of everything but it's not needed really if we're not going away.

My more dressy evening dresses got no interest on Vinted so they will go to the charity shop. Nothing out yet but got lots sorted and to sort to leave the house.

IndianSummer78 · 27/09/2025 16:20

One magazine read and recycled
One eye mask with bad elastic binned
One sticky bathroom hook that keeps falling off binned
One top I don't like into charity bag
One body lotion used up

Total is 3972

Where do we all stand on the subject of books? 📚 I believe in books, don't like kindle etc. My dilemma is I have far too many. These particular ones - I love them, although they're nothing special just a modern series in paperback. I've read them twice, I'd theoretically like to read them again BUT I have a huge to-be-read pile and I've only read them twice in 7yrs of owning them. Frugality says keep them until they fall apart, but is that sensible? In the name of decluttering should I suck up the cost of replacing them (which I can afford) if I want to read them again in future? Does your answer depend upon their current condition? Votes please my lovely people! I can't decide.

Vinorosso74 · 27/09/2025 17:09

I'd say keep them if you'll read them again but how many are we talking here? Have you others to get rid of to get the mount down?
I found a bag of stuff which didn't make it to the dump last weekend. Next time! Bag for charity shop is nearly full.
Did a quick sort through some papers today and got rid of a few along with recycling to Boots and all the soft plastics.

stealthninjamum · 27/09/2025 18:50

I have the opposite view, if you can afford to buy them again then get rid of them now and let someone else enjoy them. We recently donated the box set of Game of Thrones. Dd1 enjoys them but has so many books to read and she knows she can get them from the library. they were also taking up space in her room

For me it depends on how much space they take up and how many books you have and whether they’re all neatly fitting into a bookcase. FWIW I crossed to the dark side recently and bought a kindle, one of the ones you can make notes in ad I love it. As much as I hate giving Amazon my money it means my bedroom doesn’t need to have a big pile of books out.

No items gone today, a few bits of papers moved around in rhe Room of Doom and I was thinking of spending tonight doing some Lego tidying.
