I've gotten rid of all my books, once read they go to charity. I have a Kindle now but I don't love it. It's very rare that I regret getting rid of them, mainly when I'm asked for a lend but as mentioned the library has them or Audible or I could buy them again. I don't like yellowed pages or paper mites so I wouldn't like to read and handle a very old book.

IncessantNameChanger · 28/09/2025 13:05

Cleaned and sorted another food cupboard so some out of date food gone. I don't count that.

Went through ds underwear again. I have got rid of about 25 outgrown boxers! He is 5.7 now and in 11-12 pants poor kid.

He also has no pjs as rarely wears them. Neither does dd. I'm kind of thinking they must have at least a few pairs in case of hospital admission ( that's never ever happened only as very young babies) or a school trip.

So question.... do you just buy them for the trip or do you have sets in just in case? Ds has always had some even if they was a bit short in the leg but now they would look ridiculously short. He has three older brothers he could borrow from in a pinch.

LR47 · 28/09/2025 15:31

sold 8 items on Vinted

listed quite a few more but will count them once they’re sold / out.

Gave 6 books and 1 t-shirt away to charity

total outs 1017

@IncessantNameChanger does he ever have sleepovers with friends or would you ever have a guest over? I might be tempted to buy each child one pair of pyjamas in case of an emergency. Dd1 recently had a sleepover at a friends and I realised she only had cute pink animal pyjamas - that still fit but she’s 17 and I’m sure they were for 13/-4 year olds. So I bought her some new pyjamas for one night. In general both girls have big fluffy dressing gowns as they like to be fully covered up and so I never see them in their pyjamas.

im becoming sick of the room of doom. So I did my 5 mins in it. Im wondering if its possible to stay up all night tonight to finish it.

last night I spent an hour looking for Lego bits. Didn’t finish any sets.

Honestly I wouldn't buy pyjamas for such an unlikely event if they wouldn't get worn otherwise. I like to say to my dh that I store stuff in Sainsbury's till I need it! You can get next-day delivery for almost anything anyway, and the few hospital stays I've had it's always ben so cold that I wore a sweatshirt and joggers. School trips you'd know about well in advance

Jellycatrabbit · 28/09/2025 18:54

Our local hospital holds a stock of donated, new kids PJs for emergency admissions. I understand this is fairly common? I wouldn't buy just in case of a theoretical admission, I would be happy to use a donated set and then I would donate a similar pair back once my head was in the right place.

I haven't posted for a while as progress here has slowed. Up to 1,564 outs for the year but likely to miss my September target of 1,600.

CheesePlantFeet · 28/09/2025 19:00

@IncessantNameChanger daytime clothes can be worn to bed too. DD doesn't like pj's for some unknown reason, but wears jearsy shorts, joggers and tshirts

I've cleared out the big cupboard under the stairs today. Got rid of lots of randomness. Was very happy to find black masonry paint and white acrylic paint, both of which I had on my shopping list to do some DIY jobs. DD also did a quick wardrobe cull

Charity shop: 8x DDs clothes, storage box, door handles, cable, dustpan, stickers, seeds

Bin / recycling: 89 x under the stairs items, inc an old mop, paint, old calenders, car manuals for old old cars, baskets, paint brushes, rags, cables, many unknown plastic and metal items

Vinted/sold locally: dress

Sold 13 more items on Vinted

Just clearing out the kids’ clothes etc really. Been on maintenance de-cluttering for the past year but it’s so nice to keep things clear and organised and if something comes in, something else has to go. I value the space in my house far more than a value many items!

IncessantNameChanger · 28/09/2025 22:41

Ds has quite severe Autism and goes to school 21 miles from home so not much chance for sleepovers with friends. He did at juniors as school was a mere 15 miles away! He also never sleeps over at family either since my mum died two years ago. He also used to board one night a week at his old school but he is year 9 now so most of his pjs are 3 years to young. I think we will live without any until he asks for some. He has zero inhibitions about walking around in his boxers. My eldest son only bares his hands and head. The middle boy wonders around in boxers and a line top. Dd and ds still pretty happy thinking we are in the Mediterranean in deep winter. They all have oddies down past their knees. It's hard resisting the urge to buy but he has lots of shorts and t shirts he could also wear to bed. I guess it's all sensory related.

I have bought dd a new Halloween outfit on Vinted buy no doubt there will be more to sell she has outgrown.

IncessantNameChanger · 28/09/2025 22:54

It's true that you can get anything you need in an emergency from somewhere like Tesco unless it's a Sunday. I need to remember that.

BunnyLover7 · 29/09/2025 08:36

Good morning folks. Today I would very much like to dispose of a stroppy 16 year old who kept me awake until gone 1.30am on the phone to her girlfriend!
Joking aside, I have a free day apart from food shopping so will start to tackle the kitchen. It’s the most cluttered room in the house.

LR47 · 29/09/2025 15:53

1020

Gave some kids’ stationery to Charity
Gave 3 bundles of clothes away to friends
Gave a bag of bits and bobs to school for the Christmas tombola
listed some more on Vinted, will count them when they sell / if I give them away

Did more in the room of doom. More filing, shredding and moved items to better spaces in the house. I have a big rug in the room of doom that’s dirty so I attempted to clean some spots but I think I’ll take it to the dump when I next do a dump run.

BunnyLover7 · 29/09/2025 18:27

Sadly no kitchen decluttering after all. Might grab a storage cube or two now as not making tea til later. Cuppa first tho, talking of tea!

mutleyschuckles · 29/09/2025 21:07

2 older bedsheets on freebay- nothing wrong with it. We just need the extra deep ones so bought 2 today. 1 on & 1 to wash.
spent 5 mins going through a kitchen drawer throwing stuff while waiting for the washing machine to finish
going to collect all the little odd toiletry bits up in the next week or so & take them when we go away to butlins to use up.
son’s favourite t shirt has been replaced with one exactly the same but in new condition & his size (thanks vinted) but is refusing to let the old one go.
Vinted things that haven’t sold will be taken off this week & donated/put out the front for free.
I have bought myself some new wellies today one of them has holes in- so will venture into the outside storage box when they come to get rid of the old ones & whatever else I can find.

Currently abroad and my favorite running trainers sole is coming off. I can't remember how old they are? Cant find out either they are new balance and so old they are hip again! I'm beginning to suspect that our shoes don't store well in our porch as it's roasting in summer.

Any fail proof methods yo glues soles back on?

You need to find a glue that is flexible. Superglue won’t work in my experience.

if when you are back in the UK still have them, Timpson’s glue them for free. At least my local ones. They are fab people

One magazine read and recycled
One eye mask with bad elastic binned
One sticky bathroom hook that keeps falling off binned
One top I don't like into charity bag
One body lotion used up

Where do we all stand on the subject of books? 📚 I believe in books, don't like kindle etc. My dilemma is I have far too many. These particular ones - I love them, although they're nothing special just a modern series in paperback. I've read them twice, I'd theoretically like to read them again BUT I have a huge to-be-read pile and I've only read them twice in 7yrs of owning them. Frugality says keep them until they fall apart, but is that sensible? In the name of decluttering should I suck up the cost of replacing them (which I can afford) if I want to read them again in future? Does your answer depend upon their current condition? Votes please my lovely people! I can't decide.

The library is your friend . That’s my motto. They store the books there for when they are needed.

BunnyLover7 · 30/09/2025 09:16

I have someone collecting my kettlebell for a fiver this evening & my amber ring will be sold tomorrow. I didn’t start the storage cubes. Another place that really needs clearing is the garage. DH says I have a load more teddies in the loft so I’m going to ask him to bring them down to sort. Apparently there’s a Paddington Bear amongst them.

stealthninjamum · 30/09/2025 10:12

I got up early to spend another 30 minutes in the room of doom. I’ve shredded, filed and thrown out arts and crafts.

Pigtailsandall · 30/09/2025 10:28

I can't remember when I last posted and too lazy to go through my messages :) but I spent the weekend culling down school uniform stuff even further. It is REALLY lean now, almost bare, but we have enough. I'm going to send outgrown leggings and black socks to the early years emergency stash later.

So I'd say anything up to day 269 is definitely clothes. And more than just one a day.

On day 270, Sunday, I sold a kids' play piano locally
Days 271 and 272, I sold a book set and a kids coat on Vinted. I'm really happy about these, as they were all quite big/bulky things that were too small/babyish for my DC so happy they are gone. Although I felt a bit odd saying bye to his coat. We had it for 2 winters and it was fab, and we had a lot of adventures in it. But it's still in great condition so I'm happy it gets to continue its life elsewhere.

Your room of doom must be almost empty now, well done 💪🏻

LR47 · 30/09/2025 10:47

threw away a load of old photographs - I’m not in touch with the people in them any more (over 20 years old) and gave the empty album to DD for scrapbooking.

recycled 2 birthday cards which must have been deemed to be ‘special’ once but no more!

cleared out the last of DD’s clothes and put into one bundle on Vinted. If they don’t sell, I will donate

Loving the expression “ Room of Doom”!

stealthninjamum · 30/09/2025 13:15

ha ha bunnylover it hasn’t been a Room of Doom for about 5 years but used to be floor to ceiling furniture and boxes of paperwork. Thanks lr47 I’m not going to ‘finish’ it yet because my final tasks will be to scan in bits of artwork to put in a book - before I throw them away. But at this stage it will be tidy with all paperwork organised. I have just seen a desk on Facebook marketplace so I’m hoping to buy that to make it look like a study with a desk and bookcase.

That sounds brilliant and to have room for a desk must mean you’ve made incredible progress, well done!
