Decluttered the boardgames box at work.
Binned three games that were missing their pieces, a jigsaw with broken pieces and a clay activity that needed water and molds.
Passed on two jigsaws and a fine motor activity to a colleague for their room.

Sorted through all the rest, put their parts in ziplock bags, taped the bottoms of the boxes and stored all neatly in one single ottoman which meant the giant cardboard box that has held them for four years could be recycled as well.

Satisfying to have them so organised, but it meant I left later than hoped with more work to do when I got home. Thankfully today is Friday.

Gave away 2 pairs of jeans that are too small

binned a witch hazel stick that had dried up

sold a bag on Vinted

total outs 957

Ooh, You're right! Although I've lost track of what year I'm on incessant 😂

I know I started end February but I can't remember if I'm on my third year now or my fourth year? I'm pretty sure I've done at least 2yrs.

I'm still just shocked at how much unnecessary stuff I've got rid of already and there's still more to go. I'm thinking now the end figure might be like 10k or something before I feel like I'm onto maintenance decluttering 😳 and doing one-in-one-out. I've been able to do this with some recent purchases for the first time ever, so I'm making progress mentally.

Out goes:
Beach cover up dress, because I can count on one hand the number of times I go to the beach in a year and sunbathing is an even rarer event.
Top that's too tight in the sleeves.
Trousers that barely do up (how did I get so fat? 😭 I kinda blinked a couple times and there it was, a spare tyre. 'Tis some dark magic at play, I'm certain 🫣 ).
Threadbare socks.
Finished a magazine. Only another 100+ to go (no I can't just get rid, I have FOMO about the contents (and yes, I do know I have issues 😆)).
Finished a book. If I stacked up all my "to be read" pile it would probably reach the ceiling.

Total is 3901

IncessantNameChanger · 12/09/2025 18:10

Great progress! I m am getting fatter by the second. But I'm on Monjaro so should be slim by now 😭

I have a dilemma. I have two cheap pairs of Primark leggings that roll down. I could sew them tighter as they are otherwise fine. Or I could let them go and when I need to replace leggings, get nice thick waistband M&S ones. Same for a pair of pj bottoms. Sould I add some new elastic or let them go? Really they should go as I have two many pjs and leggings

After I cleared the hall cupboard yesterday I went in again and decided to get rid of a cool bag rucksack that was a gift from ex mil
about 10 years ago that had never been used. I filled four bags and took three to a charity shop and one to a shoe donation bank.

Today was a sad day. In my 5 mins of room of doom I decided to take a break from papers and do the wardrobe. I found my much loved Pengy (a penguin I had from about the age of 5) and his little felt nose had disintegrated. I wondered if it had been eaten by rodents or moths but nothing else in the wardrobe has been damaged. So he is now in a bin bag with four other toys that are too scruffy to give away. I’m really getting to the stuff that makes me emotional now.

Just to be devil’s advocate. Why not see if a new nose can be made? If you value him that much it would be ok to keep him. You can always leave instructions that your girls, a long time in the future, dont feel thay have to keep him just because you did.

CherryRipe1 · 12/09/2025 18:36

The shed lady that ghosted me seems back with a vengeance asking for directions etc so fingers crossed she'll show up. Sold unused good quality hi-fi equipment on eBay, buyer collecting tomorrow! Backgammon set sold so posting that off at our open all hours post office. Recycled some old tatty plastic containers. Maple tree trimmed & loads of branches etc bagged up for the tip. Had a quick look through my clothes, some really need to go, too small, big or tired & tatty.

CheesePlantFeet · 12/09/2025 21:00

I seem to have fallen off the wagon! I looked for my last post to find my previous total and it was way back on page 6! Oh well.

I had a good look through my wardrobe today and have one bag full for the charity shop and a second full of stuff to list on vinted

Charity shop: skirt, 2x jumpers, 5x tops, 3x trousers, lamp

Bin / recycling: dress, squirty bottle, lawn mower

Total 1567

UncertainPerson · 12/09/2025 21:12

Three more parcels gone and one ready to go. I’m knackered now, first week back, the kids are hectic. I think I need a nice lie down 🙈

ememem84 · 13/09/2025 08:41

managed to get some things out of the house to dsis.

wasn’t planning on tidying up dds room today but as she’s lost her shin pads for football I think I’m going to have to. Because DH has trashed it looking for them. Literally pulled everything out.

IncessantNameChanger · 13/09/2025 12:07

@stealthninjamum post him to me and I will fix him for you x

BunnyLover7 · 13/09/2025 14:16

Afternoon all - another good day so far. DD16 asked me to help clean her room, which is massive for her, and we didn’t even bicker! A couple of bin bags of rubbish & a few bits for the charity shops. I got rid of some more clothes, books, ornaments etc the other day. Did I mention I sorted the shoe basket & cupboard in the hall? After my cuppa I’ll be putting away the clothes that have sat in their wrappers for months & arranging the rest of my jewellery as I invested in another wooden bracelet holder & 2 more small acrylic necklace hangers. The bracelet holder is taking the place of my soft toy collection which now needs a new home. Very very difficult for me to part with any, although I have given a few to charity.

declutteringonedayatatime · 13/09/2025 15:00

I posted a parcel today after another Facebook Marketplace buy. My husband did a decluttering of clothes too but he is a bit like me.. gets sick of looking at it and then has to do something about it 😂

mutleyschuckles · 13/09/2025 17:28

Oh I like this thread. I’m always decluttering in spits & spats so this is very making me carry on. I’m not sentimental though which I think helps. Went through the boy’s wardrobe just now with him. All he had to say was yes or no as I got stuff out. About 75% was no & is now on vinted. 1 hoodie already sold so that’s packed up for the post on Monday. Would like to sell rather than donate them as it’s all branded Mike stuff that he wanted to start high school but has never worn & he’s actually happy in his own style stuff

UncertainPerson · 14/09/2025 16:05

One more parcel down! I really need to list 1 kids bike before the weather gets too bad.

stealthninjamum · 14/09/2025 18:32

Thanks for being so lovely @Gassylady @IncessantNameChanger . Our bin men took Pengy away on Thursday so he can’t be fixed. He also had a wobbly neck and one side was threadbare. I hadn’t thought about him for decades then my mum brought him over with all my cuddly toys and as you mentioned earlier it can be harder to get rid of something the longer you’ve had it. So if my mum had chucked my toys out when I was 20 I would’ve forgotten about them. So he’d been in the top of the wardrobe in the room of doom and every couple of years I’d see him there and feel bad. Anyway he’s gone, no one else would want my toys and one day I’ll move to a house half the size so I want as much gone as possible before then.

Today I did more decluttering of the room of doom. More art stuff has gone and papers. Dd2 wants me to throw out two old toys.

Well done everyone and welcome to the newbies. I’m an intermittent poster as I seem to lose track of days, I work for the ambulance service and my shift pattern makes life a bit erratic,

Jobs:

  1. Hang up framed pictures: this has now changed to critically go through the framed artwork as we’ve agreed we don’t actually want all of it?
  2. my British passport application - passport application form; not started yet
  3. DS1’s gaming, PC, nerf collections to go through and tidy - going to wait until he leaves for uni
  4. Portfolio work - up to 82% completed and marked correct, approx 10% needs correcting, 9% not started yet: 4 questions done today
  5. Bathroom redecoration: waiting for decorator to book a new date, still waiting: need to find a mirror and some artwork

Not quite outs yet:
garden arch and plastic flowers used for a wedding Parkrun - GONE ☑️

Out:
holey t-shirt and pants to recycling
unwanted gift box recycled
672+3=675

IncessantNameChanger · 14/09/2025 19:39

@stealthninjamum your doing well being brave and decisive!

I sold 7 of dd long sleeve t shirts on Vinted so that's 7 out. Clearly I need to get a shift on as I'm now where near 2025 out for this year

Total for year
In = 127
Out = 683

Pigtailsandall · 14/09/2025 19:54

Busy week! I forgot days 254 and 255. I decided today that I'd get rid of 2 trousers that were a little too worn to donate, but not so threadbare that I couldn't wear them. But. But. They've been hanging around for almost a year, the floaters of my wardrobe, and I just can't bear the sight if them. I haven't worn thrm, so my life is no worse off without them.

Today, day 256, was an inner cushion of a decorative set that's just flat and a bit to small for any of the covers

IncessantNameChanger · 14/09/2025 22:15

There's a few things I should get rid but for whatever reason, haven't. I have a white dress with yellow stains on I have tried to bleach today. Then my slippers are knackered but I have quite a few other pairs. See how the bleach works next weekend

stealthninjamum · 15/09/2025 09:03

I have about an 10 inch high pile of dd1 school books from year 5/6 I’m intending to throw them out after showing them to her. Her school used to do lots of activities and put photos of the girls in it so I’ve been putting a post it note to these to decide if dd1thinks she’d like those memories. Also her poetry was good so I might keep it. If I do my 5 minutes a day I reckon that”ll take me to Thursday or Friday.

Realfastfoodie · 15/09/2025 10:59

A tshirt straight into the bin, not even good enough for charity. Total 1176

FinallyGetRid · 15/09/2025 11:18

I have a whole house to sort and it's a bity overwhelming. So I have plans for today - a stupid visor dh made for working in the sun - that he never uses but has refused to part with for 5 years and an old tap I had replaced last week (it didn't work for 4 years).
So it's going to be a new me - going to get organised, slowly something every day - I feel so much better when I'm making progress.

BunnyLover7 · 15/09/2025 12:29

Update - clothes out of wrappers but need trying on so that’s one of my tasks after lunch. Need to get some adhesive stickers for the necklace hangers as they didn’t come with any like last time. I also have a bulging bag of books in my room which get sorted every so often & then just shoved back in! Ditto with the toppling pile of recipes behind the lounge door. Very unlikely to ever use any yet they just get plonked back again!

IncessantNameChanger · 15/09/2025 12:40

I have sold a judo Gi on Vinted today so could possibly pass that off as three items?

I was going to do a doorstep collection of clothes this week but I might just take it to the tip instead to a recycling bin.

EllieQ · 15/09/2025 13:10

Decluttered my second item of September today - last years raincoat, which has been outgrown, has gone in the charity bag. It’s been hanging up with the other coats since last winter, but I’ve finally tackled it!
