Decluttering thread 11

Paltry decluttering at present but it all counts; Tiny pair of useless scissors binned (Christmas cracker novelty), homeless plastic lid & tatty plastic containers recycled, iffy looking frozen offal defrosted and given to foxes. Going to a friend's house later today to help declutter.

Had another sort of daughter’s bedroom.

Getting dressed this morning yielded a dress and a jumpsuit for the charity bag. Total is 3842

Did more in the room of doom. I found some old Nintendo ds games to go, some CDs, pens, paper, a water pistol, two books, unidentifiable bits of plastic. I’m at the bit of this room I know I’m going to hate. Lots of old schoolwork, artwork, personal letters, childhood memories.

Day 251. Decluttered a brown shirt which I didn't like, but it was very long. Debated having it taken up but tbh I know I won't do it

Oh and I took the small bag of stuff to the charity shop like I promised!

One tshirt given away to a friend today. Not much else but it was a busy day.

Day 252. Sad as im decluttering a dc favourite t-shirt. It's become a crop top. We did still wear it but now, at the end of summer, it's going in the donate bag

I have slowed down now due to being back at work. I have sent one parcel today after selling some books on FB marketplace.

2 jackets sold on vinted today & will be posted tomorrow morning. Also threw some odds & ends out of a kitchen drawer. Will take down unsold vinted bits at the weekend & donate to charity shop/front garden for free

I honestly find the kids clothes the hardest!

One parcel out to the Post Office, two more to go tomorrow ☺️. I’m on the final stretch!

Went through dd school uniform today as I was in Ireland the week she started back at school. I then back through her summer things and I have another pile to get rid of. I guess they was in the wash the last time I looked? I really could be more ruthless but I might look again before Christmas. I will count it later. There's about 20 things I could sell on Vinted but I've had such little interest. I might list some as I have her Judo kit which I know will sell very fast.

Need to look through ds13 things now. He's got a very modest amount now due to growth spurts. But I have lost three pairs of his school trousers so clearer to much stuff as I can't find them! I also need to pack some of summer bits under his bed. He has a bad habit of wearing shorts in deep winter so I need to hide them.

My house is looking so much better now. Eldest has gone back to uni now but he was very impressed with my progress and he is my biggest critic.

I'm acting as dd TA on a France trip at the end of the month. When I get back I going too thin out her pjs and underwear. She has so many pants but lots are already packed so might need the slightly small ones to wear until then.

Dh washed no clothes at all for the 8 days i was away! With four kids!

Feeling so opertermistic right now again.

Old chest of drawers & table gone on fbmp. Charged a small fee as advised on mn, it does seem to weed out the time wasters. Trying to get rid of old wood for free on Freecycle & FB but no takers. Ghosted by woman who wanted my old shed. Oh well, will stick on the usual places or sadly it will be skipped if no takers.

Day 253, kids gilet. Again a sad declutter as this was a favourite but now way too tiny

Omg people are already thinking of Christmas stuff!

Went through last year's winter clothes this afternoon. Out goes:
2 x trousers
2 x leggings
4 x jumpers
4 x pyjama tops
1 x shorts
4 x jeans

Total is 3895

Your getting close to 2024 + 2025 items out India.

A satisfying number for me.

Just decluttered a house spider. We are infested this year. I hate moving stuff on the floor this time of year because guaranteed there's a mahosive spider under the clutter.

Thanks @Realfastfoodie I’m struggling at the moment but am just about managing to say goodbye to sentimental items.

Shredded a load of old papers in the room of doom. I’m now going through dcs schoolwork and artwork (for the tenth time) and this morning I threw a load away.

It’s really hard @stealthninjamum- I’m trying to do stuff in waves! I’m trying to get things like basic clothes and sleep suits out of the door quickly, giving me less to deal with. But I find it hard to accept there will not be a need. I need to keep reducing but I’m not there yet

Well, my Vinted sales have completely dropped off now. I am wondering if it’s because of back to school period….

That "I will need this tiny coat all four of my dc has worn" is painful. So painful. That's how I got into hoarding. I really feel your pain.

Best thing is get rid of things as soon as they are grown. A constant churn. Finding things from when was much smaller hurts more. It's more painful thinking 'oh I member when was this small' then 'he looked ridiculous in that last week".

After four babies and toddlers and infant / junior kids. Knowing I will never that again breaks my heart.

But hey you can't go to Irelsnd with your newborn on a driving holiday just to two of you. Or sit in a bar with toddler until midnight. I'd still go back in a flash mind.
