Sold another thing on marketplace today. Very cheaply but it gets it gone and people seem more reliable too

LivingDeadGirlUK · 07/09/2025 12:38

I've had a good week and do read the thread daily for motivation even if I don't post every day.

Have been putting bits and bobs for the charity shop in bags and dropped off today including some baby blankets, kids clothes, 2 pairs of shoes, a coupe of tops, kids winter gloves that are outgrown and a stack of books. Very satisfying. Also given away a kids coat and some toys on our local waste saver group and sold a pair of boots on Vinted.

I think its brushing off on my partner as I've caught him doing areas of the house and sorting though stuff!

UncertainPerson · 07/09/2025 16:21

Sorted the herbs and freed a few jars to be used for other things. Listed the Duplo, fingers crossed it sells! I’m getting close to finishing now ☺️

stealthninjamum · 07/09/2025 17:24

After I cleared the hall cupboard yesterday I went in again and decided to get rid of a cool bag rucksack that was a gift from ex mil
about 10 years ago that had never been used. I filled four bags and took three to a charity shop and one to a shoe donation bank.

Today was a sad day. In my 5 mins of room of doom I decided to take a break from papers and do the wardrobe. I found my much loved Pengy (a penguin I had from about the age of 5) and his little felt nose had disintegrated. I wondered if it had been eaten by rodents or moths but nothing else in the wardrobe has been damaged. So he is now in a bin bag with four other toys that are too scruffy to give away. I’m really getting to the stuff that makes me emotional now.

Thesquaregiraffe · 07/09/2025 17:38

Feeling a sense of achievement today!

Managed to clear the spare room of clothes (it had become a kind of laundry dumping ground).

I even rediscovered my desk which was harbouring a brand new pair of 501’s that are now ear marked for eBay! Less desirable, I also discovered an unopened mini baby bell which is not ear makes for eBay 🤣🤢 - very definitely going in the bin!!

Long may this continue!! Clearing out stuff does feel oddly addictive 😁

BunnyLover7 · 07/09/2025 17:47

3 more bedside drawers done (did one yesterday) & went down memory lane which was emotional. Also managed to pin DD16 down & get rid of her odds & ends. Another charity shop drop off this week.

BunnyLover7 · 07/09/2025 17:50

Forgot to do the storage cubes or clear some of the coats in the hall. They will get done!

declutteringonedayatatime · 07/09/2025 18:04

I went through the coats so they are in a bag ready for the charity shop. I have been listing things on Ebay too. If they don't sell by the time the auction ends, they will go charity shop too.

UncertainPerson · 07/09/2025 18:22

It’s so motivating reading the amazing decluttering that everyone else is doing 🙌

LR47 · 07/09/2025 20:12

got rid of a battered toy kitchen but replaced with a new one

got rid of 4 old pans from the old one though
gave away some leggings

total outs 936

IndianSummer78 · 07/09/2025 20:46

Planted a packet of seeds that has been hanging around forever, no idea if they'll grow but at least the packet is gone from the windowsill.
One bowl that isn't needed.

Some success with olio including some bits of bedding - duvet covers, sheets etc.

Realfastfoodie · 07/09/2025 21:31

Does anyone else use olio?

declutteringonedayatatime · 07/09/2025 22:26

Realfastfoodie · 07/09/2025 21:31

Does anyone else use olio?

Yes. I used it today to get rid of some items. It is good when it works i.e people turn up on time!

EllieQ · 08/09/2025 10:18

I’m impressed by how much everyone is getting done! Sadly, after making good progress in August, my decluttering for the first week of September consisted of one pair of socks with a hole in going into the textile recycling bag. I also listed four previously counted items on Vinted.

It’s really clear how much more energy (and time, obviously!) I have when I’m not at work - I have a chronic illness that affects my energy levels, and it’s definitely got worse as I’ve got older.

Still, one thing out is better than none!

LivingInaBuiltSite · 08/09/2025 11:17

I’ve been awol again.

Jobs:

  1. Hang up framed pictures: this has now changed to critically go through the framed artwork as we’ve agreed we don’t actually want all of it?
  2. DS2 paperwork: blue badge started - have actually abandoned this as he really doesn’t need it.
  3. my British passport application - passport application form; not started yet
  4. DS1’s gaming, PC, nerf collections to go through and tidy - going to wait until he leaves for uni
  5. Portfolio work - up to 77% completed and marked correct, approx 10% needs correcting, 13% not started yet.
  6. Bathroom redecoration: waiting for decorator to book a new date, still waiting: this is DONE ☑️ need to find a mirror and some artwork

Not quite outs yet:
scooter hooks x 3 onto FB GONE ☑️
Several jigsaws - definitely going into work GONE ☑️
garden arch and plastic flowers used for a wedding Parkrun - going today

Out:
carload from shed/utility - uncounted so going to say approx 50
jigsaws - about 15
pile of ‘useful to an electrician’ stuff given to an electrician 😀 - about 10
597+50+15+10=672

I have really got to try and stay on top of things, portfolio is nearly done so I will feel like I get my life back once that’s completed. I have new building/jobs planned including wardrobes for our bedroom which is a constant annoyance as clothes are everywhere. But need the old builders to get it all signed off with the council guy first.

UncertainPerson · 08/09/2025 12:37

@Realfastfoodie that’s what I do too, list on FB marketplace for a super low price. By the time I would have listed it, packed it and taken it to the post office, sometimes a smaller amount in cash is as good. Just got rid of all the remaining Duplo this morning. Plus 2 toys. And sold something on eBay ☺️

BunnyLover7 · 08/09/2025 13:42

Afternoon fellow declutterers! My plans for today have changed so I’m about to tackle a chest of drawers & possibly sort the rest of the stuff in a cardboard box that I started doing the other day. Also need to decide where to put my foot spa which is currently on top of the largest chest of drawers. How’s everybody doing? Loving this thread!

LR47 · 08/09/2025 13:46

sold and posted 2 items on Vinted
gave 6 book covers to my kids’ school
donated 2 items for their Christmas fair

total outs: 946

BunnyLover7 · 08/09/2025 19:01

Phew! Got loads done & it feels great! I cleared the drawer under the bed, did both chests of drawers (several bags of clothes going to charity), sorted out the cardboard box & realised that I have enough pairs of black socks to dress an army! Enough for today & I’ll tackle my side of the wardrobe next. DD has got in on the act & has taken some bags of rubbish downstairs plus sorted some clothes to wash & possibly put on Vinted.

Pigtailsandall · 08/09/2025 19:42

Day 250 declutter, pair of purple gloves. Honestly I bought these on a complete whim from a little store few years back. They are not at all my colour. I want to replace them with some neutral-tone ones this winter.

stealthninjamum · 08/09/2025 21:59

Did my usual 20 mins tidying but didn’t come up with anything to declutter. So I decided to finish reading a book I started four years ago that was out in my bedroom. I finished it and it is in a charity shop bag.

BunnyLover7 · 08/09/2025 23:04

Now looking round the lounge, wondering what to do next! There’s a pile of recipes which I never use but every time I go through them, I just put them back in the heap! Tomorrow they will be recycled. Then there’s 3 carrier bags containing a lot of stuff from Temu, some of which I bought months ago. I can clear out the magazine rack. And the cubes which didn’t get done the other night. There’s quite a bit of crap on the side table & the windowsill too. Both need a good dust. Then there’s the kitchen & I want to tidy out the bathroom cupboard & the airing cupboard - we desperately need new towels.

A lot got in the way, haven’t done anything for ages but got in my hobby room last night and managed to file a lot of stuff back into its boxes and although I had decided a huge sort out was needed I haven’t the emotional strength to think straight, so it was a bit of an organised stuff it away job.

happily I found a few things I had lost last year when DH was in hospital which had been bugging me and I’m nearing being able to quickly turn in back into a bedroom which I will need when they all come to stay for the internment of ashes the week after next.

today I need to tackle the mountain of stuff in the small bedroom, smallest grand kiddies need to sleep in there and at the moment you can’t see the bed or the floor. Really tempted to just go to the tip, local charity shops being very picky or don’t need more donations and I need to clear it and help it clear my head too.

I’ve barely scratched the surface of a lot of DH’s stuff, im wearing his t shirts, work trousers and his boots, all were better than mine and we were same size almost but wondering if its really healthy emotionally and mentally. Fortunately mine were similar to his so our work colleagues probably haven’t realised.
