Fledglings flying into Joyous June - Monthly Flylady thread

Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

June's habit of the month is drinking water. Whatever gets you drinking, fancy glasses, ice, floral decorations- go for it!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit
Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.
Zones: https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/
Baby Steps: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/
full disclosure: the Flylady website is going through some changes and there have been some issues with it loading/ updating, so I will do my best!

Huge thank you for Hazel for running the May thread, welcome everyone old and new to our endeavours for June.

My May was very hectic at work but things should (should!) be calmer through June.

Today is Zone 1, entranceway; but there are no missions at the weekend. Sunday is renew your spirit day, so take some time to refresh yourself for the week ahead.

@DillyDeclutter thanks for starting the new thread.
I mainly lurk in the naughty corner.
With DP's help I'm turning my spare room into a study/music room.
It hasn't gone smoothly....
But the painting is finished, the new floor is laid, my new corner cabinet is coming on Tuesday to go with the other cabinets I got from Facebook marketplace, so I'll at last be able to declutter my bedroom.
I've just started reading the Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning and I'm on a mission to make this my transformation into a minimalist lifestyle because I'm sick of the state of my house.
Today's aim is "fed not dead" because I've only had about 3 hours sleep.

Captainladder · 01/06/2025 08:02

Morning! Popping along to say hello and state my intention to commit to daily decluttering and keeping on top of laundry at the bare minimum. Yesterday I was planning to have a massive tidy and declutter session, but a friend popped over and we spent the day drinking in the garden chatting and setting the world to rights, so that didn't happen.
thabks to those who run the threads - I often follow along but don't comment and it is so helpful to have a place to return to where you can just pick up where you are and not feel judged! 🥰

Searchingfordaffodils · 01/06/2025 08:29

Crawling out of the naughty corner to say hello 👋 I have been decluttering in the background but I haven't really been following any structure . Could June be the month that I stick to it ???

Thanks for last months thread Hazel and for this months Dilly 💐

Poisonwood · 01/06/2025 14:56

June already, that’s been scarily fast coming in. I’ve been unhappy with my entranceway ever since I moved in…it’s awkward, tiny with storm doors (necessary!) and feels so meh which isn’t nice as the first entrance to the house. So…today I’ve bought some bits to make it nicer and am looking forward to them coming. I think a big part of me not being on top of things is not liking particular areas decoration/function and I want to change that, on a budget.
Renewing my spirit with church, yoga and a roaring fire.

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/06/2025 15:29

Thank you again Dilly for volunteering for June!
Hopefully work calms down a little bit for you this month.

Cherry I'm actually thinking I need to do some Swedish death cleaning. I haven't read the book, but I've seen lots about it on Pinterest. It seems a little premature for us right now, but I'm sure in the next few years it'll be something we need to do. I've actually read on mn to not wait too late to do it as you won't physically be able to do it as well. Please let me know how you get on with it as I'm really intrigued by it!
Why did you only get 3 hours of sleep?!

Captain that sounds like a great day to me! You've reminded me that there's still LOLs I need to get washed today, ready for the week.

DH lectured DS on Friday about chores, now he's out of school for the summer he wants him to do his chores again. I've been picking up the slack since he's had after school clubs etc and not been doing his chores every day (mainly LOLs). It'll be nice to not have to wash 8 LOLs on a Tuesday, as most would be caught up for me during the week.

Searching 👋 could you use the Flylady zones to focus your decluttering efforts? Using timers etc and the baby steps? Of course, whatever works for you though!

Poisonwood your idea of making your entryway nicer is a great idea! Do you use that entryway everyday? It'll be nice to walk into a welcoming space every time.

I got some plants in the ground and in pots yesterday, there's still more to do. I need to try to get them done today (I might take some pictures and post them on here), as well done laundry.
I also need to do a meal plan for this week and go grocery shopping. It's especially important I do that this week as we'll be leaving on our trip next Monday (9th).
We also have a softball practise today at some point. Have no idea what time yet!

ExtensivelyDecluttering · 01/06/2025 15:37

Thank you @DillyDeclutter and @HazelNotHungryLC for April.

Well we are piles high with clutter as DS moved home from uni. The WM has been on the go all day, luckily it is warm and breezy. It might take a few days to get it all sorted and stashed away. It was his final year so unlike previous years he won't be taking it all away again in Sept.

2in2022twoyearson · 01/06/2025 15:44

Hello,
Thanks dilly for the new thread.
I'm on babystep 15 now and it's add making the bed to the morning routine. Maybe I'll pause there again as my morning routine did not at all happen today as I had no major plans to get ready for. DD is recovering from a vomiting bug. Has been sick three times over the space of 4 days, a bit odd. All at night time or early morning (3 out of the past 4 nights) so we're all feeling a bit sleep deprived. Poor girl that's half her holiday Sick for and she seemed a bit off before tha, she's back Tuesday as long as she's not sick again. I took her dovet to the launderette today. Otherwise been a chill day.

June is busy, got dds 7th birthday party to plan and do, plus family guests and my final assignment is due.

Maybe I'll do July's thread if I qualify as it should be less busy...if I graduate babysteps.

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/06/2025 15:51

ED that's exciting about DS being done with uni now! Does he have any plans now he's back home?

2in2022 I hope DD is feeling better. That does sound very strange that it's just been at night. Was she feeling okay during the day?

2in2022twoyearson · 01/06/2025 17:00

Not really very well, she was putting on a brave face, and lying down if she felt queezy so I think worked hard in keeping it down in the daytime I guess. She loves reading and has done loads of that. Allthough she seemed well from Thursday evening until Friday evening so the Friday night vomit was as surprising as Wednesday night.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/06/2025 03:29

Oh bless her. Hopefully she's feeling much better in the morning.

DillyDeclutter · 02/06/2025 07:59

Morning! The thread's been busy - hope everyone is ready for the week ahead. Welcome to all, posters and lurkers!

I'm off with the dc today, they have a teacher training day so we are off to a localish theme park.

Today's mission is to spend 15 minutes putting away stuff in your porch and entrance way.

This is an area I struggle with as our entrance is through our conservatory, which is also a play/sitting area at this time of year and gets over my personal clutter threshold very quickly. We no longer have three pushchairs clogging it up, as I did declutter those, however we currently have five (!) scooters and a bike . . .

Today's baby step is to get dressed to shoes as soon as you get up.

This is a marmite one and doesn't work for me - we prefer breakfast in PJs to make the resulting mess less of an issue, and we are a shoes off house!

Thanks for the new thread, Dilly, and thanks for the last one, Hazel.
My hall isn't too bad from a clutter point of view; sorted out the hat & coat rack recently and it's not really big enough to have too much clutter otherwise.
Think I'll give the front door a good clean, inside and out.
Not too much time for much else as we're out a good part of the day, but I've done part of my morning routine (including cleaning sink and hob) and will swish and swipe the bathrooms before we go.

Captainladder · 02/06/2025 13:55

Hi All!
Our front door opens straight into our dining / kitchen room, which was the only possible solution when we extended the house..... I love the room but it means there are always shoes everywhere (also a shoes off house!) and often coats get left hanging on dining chairs in the winter. We have shoe storage but the shoes often don't make it into the shoe cabinets! And no where really for bigger shoes like wellies / dog walking boots.
oh well. Once I've decluttered maybe a space will open up!
to dos

15 min zone declutter
put away lols that are lurking in the living room
hoover
put bedsheets on ds2's bed
bedsheets on our bed
water plants outside
water plants inside
put away all crockery after dinner - I hate it when I come down to a pile of clean dishes that need to be put away.......

need to go get kiddo2 from school pick up in 40
mins so better see how much of that I can get done!!!

2in2022twoyearson · 02/06/2025 19:17

@DillyDeclutter same, I've got the day with school age child for an inset day. I agree with you about breakfast in pjs but my DH likes he get fully ready before coming downstairs like flylady approach. DD has had less of an appetite than normal today but otherwise well and active. She's had richer food than yesterday so I'm hoping she's over it now and not sick tonight.

Tadas:
Some 7th birthday party prep (bought some decorations and are making a pinata)
Morning routine.
Made both meals.
15 minutes decluttering

DH cleaned down the kitchen and made tomorrow's lunches but the sink can still be cleaned. He also made our bed this morning as he was last out but I will try to remember to make it when I'm last out as that was a recent baby step. I had a headache this evening, paracetamol didn't help, had a 10 minute nap, still headache then binging on sugar has made it go. I need a good sleep/ hope I'm not coming down with what DD had as all that junk food will not have done me any favours.

Todos, not in this order:
Clean sink.
Check calendar
Pack bags for tomorrow
Put ds to bed
Sort out pile of socks I tipped out to pair.

To do tomorrow:
Buy ds new socks on lunch break
Continue with my morning and evening routines so far.

Searchingfordaffodils · 02/06/2025 21:14

All the basics done today , lol , tea, clothes out for tomorrow, dw on and that's about it 🤷‍♀️ out of the house from 830 until 8 . Im so tired now I am going to relax for 15 mins on the sofa to sit in silence for a bit then go to bed 😴 posting to try and keep myself accountable for the housework , hopefully posting daily will help keep me on track!

DillyDeclutter · 03/06/2025 07:09

Morning! It's a wet one here.

Today's mission is your front doorway - shake out the mats, sweep, and wipe down your front door. I did randomly do this on Saturday so I'll have to find something else!

Today's baby step is to keep doing steps 1 and 2 (shine sink, get dressed) and also read the Flylady website.

I have a rare child free morning so could achieve everything in the world. I probably won't! Will update later.

OP posts:
SparrowFeet · 03/06/2025 07:15

Morning! I did the hallway yesterday too (and the front door to get off all the dog shakes!)
Today I think I'll sort through the coats and empty pockets and put the thick winter ones away so they're not clogging up the rack.
Getting dressed to shoes definitely happening for me today as I'm in the office. Beginning to regret laying my clothes out last night as I've got no idea what to wear. It really is the only one I seem to be protesting at doing but am sure it would make all the difference 🤦🏻‍♀️

Poisonwood · 03/06/2025 09:26

Managing to shine my sink and put my clothes out the night before…I always have for the children but some reason stopped years ago for myself. It feels like a weight I didn’t even realise I was carrying in the mornings has been lifted!
Washed down entrance way ready for painting door later in week.

HazelNotHungryLC · 03/06/2025 14:37

Yesterday was a work day, so no flying, other than vacuuming ILs house on my lunch break.
DS was home so should have done one lol. I didn't check to make sure it made it to the dryer. He had a bad habit of leaving it in the washer so then it needs to be rewashed.
He also rotated the DW and finished filling it last night after dinner.

We had a softball game last night, we won, but not surprising as we played against a team that hasn't won a single game yet. It was fun though. Our team had family on the opposing team so it wasn't serious by any means!

DH & DS harvested some lettuce from our garden for dinner (chef's salad), which tastes amazing!

Today I'll be out of the house most of the day, taking DS around for his band fundraiser, so not sure what my ta das will look like later.

DillyDeclutter · 04/06/2025 07:28

Morning! Sun's out, and I have a long shift at work today.

Today's mission is to spend 15 minutes decluttering in your dining room. We have a kitchen diner and the table is a definite hotspot for crafts, post, etc.

Yesterday I managed a big charity shop trip, taking clothes, toys and household bits to their respective specialist shops. I keep looking at the empty space and smiling - it's all been piled up there for weeks.

Kudos to everyone putting their clothes out the night before. This is another that doesn't work for me, I feel too constrained by yesterday's decisions!

Baby step day 4 link: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-4/

So far we are:

  • Getting Dressed to lace-up shoes
  • Keeping our sink shining
  • Read your FlyLady message on our website
Your next thing is to write these items down on a sticky note and post them on your bathroom mirror and above your kitchen sink.

My "control journal" is a mostly used notebook that I'm finishing off, I write out my lists daily which helps me keep focused.

Morning!
congratulations on your win @HazelNotHungryLC - and how nice of you to hoover your IL's house! Surely that's bonus fly lady brownie points?!
managed my 15 min declutter by the skin of my teeth, was very close to copping out and going to get ready for bed..... but have now cleared the clutter from the top of a shoe cabinet and the kallax boxes that we use as a general hidden dumping ground! the clutter inside is still there but.... at least you can't see it 🤣🫣 Our dining table is used as a dumping ground too, but generally gets tidied every evening before dinner. Will tackle the kitchen island (we have a kitchen diner too!) which gathers more stuff.....
love a charity shop drop off... well done @DillyDeclutter!! 🎉
have a lovely day all 🥰

2in2022twoyearson · 04/06/2025 18:48

Hi, trying to cement and improve my morning and evening routines. This morning was a bit chaotic, with DD oversleeping than stropping about her hairstyle for school. I had planned to go straight out to the park from school run and toddler ds is getting more aware so knew this plan. But I had no bag with me so went home first. So pack bags should definitely be in my evening routine, would make life less stressful.

For a few days Been feeling low energy/ fatigued from 4pm so not done much housework. I had half an hour when ds napped before afternoon school run and did 15 minutes of cleaning kitchen, cleaning potty, emptying a bin then 15 minutes with a tea but that tea break felt too short. But tonight I will do some tomorrow prep.
