Fledglings flying into Joyous June - Monthly Flylady thread

Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

June's habit of the month is drinking water. Whatever gets you drinking, fancy glasses, ice, floral decorations- go for it!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit
Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.
Zones: https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/
Baby Steps: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/
full disclosure: the Flylady website is going through some changes and there have been some issues with it loading/ updating, so I will do my best!

Sunshine that's awful you have rain coming in through the ceiling! Well done on getting your life admin done and delegated to someone else 👏

ED that sounds like a good plan for where to put the checklists. It sounds like it's working out pretty well!

2in2022 that's a good step to add to your morning routine. Just don't forget to put some on yourself as well!

Dilly I know you mentioned this yesterday.. what are the tickets for that you bought? Anything fun?

No flying here. Too busy at work, then softball last night. After work today we have ice creams to deliver for a fundraiser for band, hopefully a lot of them can be delivered, if not I'm hoping they'll all fit in our freezer!

DillyDeclutter · 27/06/2025 07:27

Morning! Friday is clean out your car and purse day. My car is OK but handbag needs attention!

Todays mission is to spend 15 minutes decluttering in the master bedroom.

Today's baby step is to think about what's for dinner (tea here! Dinner is at 12 in our house!) before 6pm https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-27/

sunshine that sounds very stressful. Hope you are getting the leak sorted. We have a local emergency roofer who comes around with his tube of mastic and gums everything back together until the pros can get to it.

2in2022 I find suncream very hard to remember because of it only being needed sometimes!

Hazel the tickers are for DH to take DC to a concert while they are off in the summer and I'm at work. Nice for them anyway!

Unlikely to be much flying here today as we have the school fair this afternoon, which I'm helping at, so I'm expecting lots of administrative effort and some exhausted kids.

OP posts:
2in2022twoyearson · 27/06/2025 08:22

Shoot, I didn't do suncream today. Hopefully DH will as he drops off children on a Friday. I was up for 2 hours in the night as ds was not very well, he woke briefly with teething pain but I was full of adrenaline I couldn't get back to sleep. Ds seems ok so he's going to the childminder but I'll be anticipating a call.

SunshineAndSummerShowers2025 · 27/06/2025 17:52

Teens' Wardrobes tidied and clothes sorted Some outgrown, some unwanted. Washing-machine rattling away all day with school uniforms, as it's been a rather miserable year and I want it all out my sight asap.

Very humid uncomfortable weather today. Feels oppressive. McD for teas, then screens then bed.

DillyDeclutter · 28/06/2025 06:17

Morning! Saturday is family fun day, no missions at the weekend.

sunshine that sounds very satisfying! I need to sort through dds future clothes - I've pulled out the summer bits but the bigger winter things are still in a jumble.

2in2022 did you get a call or was ds okay? My oldest was teething over the worst of Covid and ran a temperature at the drop of a hat - that was a fun time!

Weather looks a bit dicey here so not sure what we will do today. Ds is very into hoovering atm but dd is scared of the hoover so there has been some family conflict . . .

OP posts:
2in2022twoyearson · 28/06/2025 06:41

@DillyDeclutter I didn't get a call, but ds had loose poos in the daytime and diarrhea in the evening after dinner. I've heard that teething poos and high temperatures with teething is a myth and they actually have a virus but high temperature does seem to go hand in hand... maybe the virus makes they tolerate teething less. Anyway, ds was better last night than the night before, if he is still sleeping. We're meeting my sister today, if he's not well, DH will stay home and I'll take DD.

2in2022twoyearson · 28/06/2025 07:59

This morning, I sorted out my clothes in the master bedroom. I have put on a loaf weight doing my course and still have too small clothes in my cupboard so I've bagged them up so I don't keep trying to fit into them

HazelNotHungryLC · 28/06/2025 14:16

2in2022 that's really weird you've heard that's a myth! Both my DC had the runs when they were teething, along with a fever, every time.
My mum was the one that told me it was because they were teething, she had 6 babies total who were teething (she lost one to cot death at 8 months old 💔) and said it was common with all of us too. It's too much of a coincidence to me.
That was such a tough time, teething really takes it out of you and know it's not easy to go through at the time. Hopefully he's feeling much better today.

Dilly that is quite the situation re hoover! Is the weather looking any better now?

DH & DS started getting our pool up last night. It's about halfway full, so we'll finish that up today. There's also lots of weeds that need to be pulled.
Last night we were chatting to our neighbours behind our house, we haven't really got to know any of our neighbours yet, but they seem really nice people. I invited them to our BBQ on Friday (Independence day), as it seems like we'll get along well, it'll be nice to make more friends.

HazelNotHungryLC · 28/06/2025 14:26

2in2022 I find that only having clothes in my wardrobe that fit helps me figure out what I'm wearing, hopefully that works for you too!

On the subject of weight, I'm really struggling this week to get back on track with reducing carbs and logging food. My goal is to get some meal prep done this weekend and plan meals better. It was really hard this week as we were so busy, but we haven't eaten enough veggies at all. I also need to make time for working out, mainly to tone up as exercise alone isn't enough for me to lose weight, but it does also help me focus on eating better, so I really should prioritize that.

SunshineAndSummerShowers · 28/06/2025 18:01

Slight name change today. Teens are off on holiday. There’s lots of things to get back on track - cook from freezers and cupboard instead of meal deals and drive-thru. Endless laundry and tidying, then some decluttering. Sort through banking and finances. It’s possible I’ve already said all this.

Searchingfordaffodils · 29/06/2025 07:43

This week has been a write off , I had a cold which was probably why my energy was so drained ! It was a tough one, everyone else had it but thankfully it was only me that was knocked off my feet and my eldest who slept on and off for about 2 days !

Whilst I still went to work , this does mean that my house is an absolute disaster because after work I was going to bed ! I am out today from 11, although I want and need to rest, I also need to get some things sorted because my mental health will take a dive if I don't.

I'm going to put in my AirPods and have an hour between 8-9 and tick off as many as I can on my to do list for the day :
🧹 tidy living and dining room
🧹dust living and dining room
🧹 hoover and mop floors in living and dining room
🧹put a wash on
🧹 fold dry washing , separating school uniforms
🧹 pack items needed for the day out

I'll post here afterwards for accountability otherwise my book or phone will become a distraction and I will procrastinate the tasks 🙂

DillyDeclutter · 29/06/2025 09:02

Morning!

Sunshine sounds nice and peaceful!

searching I absolutely relate to needing a tidyish house to feel sane. Hope you made some good progress on the list!

No missions on the weekend, Sunday is renew your spirit day.

We move into a new zone today, the living room. We'll just be there today and tomorrow as July will move us back into Zone 1.

Baby step 29 is to include a weekly pamper mission in your weekly routine. https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-29/

2in2022 I also have put on weight in the last 2 years - it seems to have been harder to lose after dc2 plus hitting Peri. All of my too small clothes are put away for the moment.

Hazel Yes the NHS says the teething thing is a myth but everyone I know seems to have experienced it.

Sunny and nice here, will try to get out and about today although everyone else has other plans for my time!

Searchingfordaffodils · 29/06/2025 09:33

Tada
✅ tidied living and dining room
✅ dusted living and dining room
✅ hoovered and moped the living and dining room

How does flylady do the whole house in an hour? It's taken me 1 hour 15 to do 2 rooms 😂 even if the rooms were tidy to begin with I wouldn't get much more completed !

I have set oh and dd2 finding spiders and cobwebs which she loves to do !

Enjoying a coffee until 945 then the next hour will be to :

🧹put a wash on
🧹 fold clean washing separating school uniform
🧹 get things ready for the day/ afternoon out
🧹 wash and get dressed

THISnewbeginning · 29/06/2025 09:57

<plonks self in naughty corner>

I am back
I have a new account
I have a new home
I did it

Searchingfordaffodils · 29/06/2025 11:02

Yay 🥳 welcome back @THISnewbeginning !

Searchingfordaffodils · 29/06/2025 11:10

Tada
✅ everyone washed & dressed
✅ packed for the day out
✅ washer is on
✅ most of clean washing is folded, all uniforms have been separated so a lovely ironing pile is waiting for me when I get home.

I'm going to relax and enjoy the weather for today , I'll get back to the cleaning / organising this evening . Need to find another 2 hours I think to make sure we are set up for next week.

To do this evening :
🧹 uniform ironing
🧹 meal plan for the week
🧹 bags packed
🧹 support ds & dd2 with homework's
🧹 calendar updated
🧹 items to be returned to the shops bagged up ready to take on Tuesday

2in2022twoyearson · 29/06/2025 12:10

Well, my tummy is feeling a bit squiffy today but nothing like ds so... it's not 100% teething...I'm up to the laundry baby step. Laundry on Wednesday and Saturday works for us and I feel like we're on top of it. So I'm not going to complicate my morning routine but doing a bit every day. Maybe I'll add, ensure clean clothes are in drawers and cupboards to my evening routine, because sometimes they stay clean and dry in laundry baskets.

HazelNotHungryLC · 29/06/2025 15:36

Sunshine enjoy having the house to yourself!

Searching well done for getting back on top of the house. I know what you mean about mental health, it definitely helps to have less chaos around me and I feel calmer when the house is clean. You've been busy today! But I'm glad you get to enjoy the weather as well, it's good to have a balance.

2in2022 oh no! I hope you and DS are feeling better soon! I know what you mean about clean laundry staying in laundry baskets, that happens here too, other than on Tuesdays, I'll put clothes away for DH & me (DS is to do his own, although tends to leave everything in his basket 🤦‍♀️) we fold everything though as it's taken out of the dryer, so nothing gets too creased.

THIS yay I'm glad you've managed to move! How is everything going? What did the man child think? How are the DCs doing? How are YOU doing with all this change? Are you settled in? So many questions, I know!

I did absolutely nothing yesterday!
Actually, I take that back. I cooked some hard boiled eggs and made my egg salad that'll last a few days for lunches for me (and DS apparently) and I rotated the DW. I took a nap too. No weeds were pulled, but I did water my flowers and I did build the 2 end tables I got for outside, that only took me 10 minutes each one though.

Okay, so a little more done than I thought, but nowhere near as much as I should have done.

Today's plan is to pull weeds (I'm already dressed today and it's 8:30am, I didn't get dressed until 4pm yesterday!).
I need to meal plan for the week & go grocery shopping.
I need to repaint my nails as they're chipping really bad (that'll be me renewing my spirit).

SunshineAndSummerShowers2025 · 29/06/2025 20:20

Had a lovely early morning tidying the mess in the garden where some large branches had been sawn down and left. I tidied a bit in the garage when it got too hot.

Discovered another set of school clothes for the wash after putting on the final load. I'll get them done tomorrow.

Cancelled tesco with the intention of eating only from the fridge and freezers.

Searchingfordaffodils · 29/06/2025 21:53

Tada
✅ a wonderful day out !
✅ clothes ironed for my tomorrow

There are no more tadas , argued with oh which has put a bit of a dampener on the evening. I think he's getting the cold but won't admit he's feeling poorly and just acts like a toddler for a day or 2 before he realises he's poorly lol oh well , I will aim for more tadas tomorrow!

Searchingfordaffodils · 29/06/2025 21:55

Not sure why it says for my tomorrow, I meant for everyone tomorrow 🙂

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/06/2025 00:23

Searching I hope your OH feels better soon. I'm glad you had a good day out.

Sunshine that's always how it is for me - I think I have everything that needs to be washed, it's halfway through washing, or almost done, and I find more! Happens with dirty dishes as well. So frustrating!

Ta das:
☀️ spent 2.5 hrs outside pulling weeds, it looks so much better now!
☀️ watered flowers
☀️ painted my nails (fingers and toes)
☀️ I've spent the last 2 hours sitting outside, the air conditioner is freezing me out!

I do still need to go to the store, I'm just not wanting to, so putting it off!

DillyDeclutter · 30/06/2025 07:11

Morning!

It's the last day of June, would anyone like to volunteer for July?

Monday is home bleugh day. Hoover, sheets, bins, bathroom etc.

Today's mission is to spend 15 minutes getting rid of things that don't belong in the living room. Especially, things that have been there so long that they've blended into the background. . . .

Today's baby step is to check next months calendar for birthdays etc and put any cards or presents you'll need on your shopping list.
