Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

June's habit of the month is drinking water. Whatever gets you drinking, fancy glasses, ice, floral decorations- go for it!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit
Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.
Zones: https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/
Baby Steps: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/
full disclosure: the Flylady website is going through some changes and there have been some issues with it loading/ updating, so I will do my best!

I had an unbroken sleep last night, alarm woke me, but just 7 hours so I'm not caught up on my deficit.
Last night I layed out my clothes and shined my sink. I also made a chicken soup with the bones from roast dinner DH made, so I'm having that for breakfast, trying to loose weight and get more healthy and I've heard a high protein breakfast is good.
Not adding any baby steps as I have a deadline and work and dds upcoming which I think is the cause of my insomnia. Will do 2 minute hotspots though.

DillyDeclutter · 09/06/2025 07:47

Morning!

Home Blessing day today, change sheets, hoover, dust, mop, clean mirrors and windows, and empty the bins. This is a weekend job for me although I do need to hoover.

Our kitchen mission today is to scrub the stove tops. Soak the drip tray (not sure I have this) in hot soapy water and scrub the knobs too.

searching there is an indoor venue if outside* *is cancelled but it's a bit cramped and damp!

2in2022 sleep is always good. Sounds like you are getting things under control at home!

I have a rare child free day so I've got a huge shopping list of things it's hard to get locally and am going up to our big city. Annoyingly, I drive through it and back for work once a week, but I never get the chance to stop because of childcare commitments!

Today's baby step is to add a five minute room rescue to your morning routine. I usually do this across the bedrooms, after everyone is dressed.

Searching we will be arriving tomorrow morning and leaving the UK on the 19th, early morning. So really not very long. Between DH and my work schedules and DSs band schedule, those are the dates that worked the best, for the best price too. Just to leave a day later would have been an extra couple hundred dollars, per ticket! Not feasible!
I have been keeping an eye on the weather and it really does look like it's going to be nice the majority of the time we're there, which is unusual 😂

2in2022twoyearson · 09/06/2025 16:47

@HazelNotHungryLC have a lovely trip.

HazelNotHungryLC · 09/06/2025 16:56

We just left the house!! We're on our way 🥳

I didn't get to clean the house as good as I would've liked, but the fridge is pretty empty, dishwasher on the go, handwash dishes washed & put away. Kitchen bin emptied and countertops wiped down after breakfast.

Dilly enjoy your shopping trip and your child free day!

2in2022 a high protein breakfast is a good idea! I made scrambled eggs for us this morning, so we have a good start to the day 😊
I don't usually eat breakfast at all, but it might be a late lunch today.

Captainladder · 09/06/2025 21:32

Safe travels @HazelNotHungryLC!

We do Our weekly home blessing on a Saturday and I try to do sheets on a Monday. Will have to
be tomorrow now because I have been on the go all day - including an exercise class I've been meaning to get to for ages but haven't been able to! So my decluttering hasn't been done either but I have left the kitchen ready for the morning. 🎉 I'm counting that as a win.....

2in2022twoyearson · 09/06/2025 21:33

Good that this week is kitchen as I really need to defrost the fridge freezer. DH, who does most in the kitchen, is not a fan of this and chips off the ice, makes me cringe at what sort of damage he's causing. It's quite full but I'll use one of the meats for dinner, pack things into a couple of cool bags/boxes with plenty of lose Ice. I will do that on Wednesday, my 'day off' with toddler.

This evening tadas:
2 minute hotspots
Put on the dishwasher.
Did some stretching and shoulder exercises.

Fails:

Said I'd make sandwiches when DH was out walking the dog, but forgot. As it's normally 'my job' or part of my routine I struggle with that.. also I avoided an afternoon slump today but had one after dinner instead. Less caffeine today so hoping to sleep well again.

Had a mentally taxing day at work.

ExtensivelyDecluttering · 09/06/2025 22:53

Safe travels @HazelNotHungryLC

Just posting in solidarity re multiple sauce bottles. DS’s uni unpacking revealed 6 jars of marmite all of which had at least a bit still in them. All merged into one plus our home jar now.

Searchingfordaffodils · 10/06/2025 06:57

Morning everyone ☕️ , not much flying done yesterday but got the basics done and 30 mins ironing. Another full day with a meeting , then taking dd2 to gymnastics. I come home inbetween taking and fetching so should be able to do the basics , eat and possibly go for a walk ( I have been walking for 30-60 minutes in the evening to improve health ) . If I do get a bit of time , I'll be concentrating on running the hoover round and putting the clean washing away because that is piling up after a busy weekend !

Searchingfordaffodils · 10/06/2025 07:05

You definitely have picked one of the better weeks to come for a visit @HazelNotHungryLC ! Safe travels and enjoy your break 🙂

Chicken soup sounds yum @2in2022twoyearson ! I have found having everyone's clothes ready the night before is a game changer for the day ahead !

Ooo a childfree day @DillyDeclutter! Did you enjoy some you time aswell as the shopping ?

Yay for the exercise class @Captainladder!! What exercise class was it and did you enjoy it ?

Laughing at the 6 jars of marmite @ExtensivelyDecluttering!! I have all these things to come when dd1 heads to uni in September! I have a feeling I will only see her when she has ran out of clean washing 😂

DillyDeclutter · 10/06/2025 08:41

Morning, just dropping in the baby step - learning the power of 15 minutes

https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-10/

And the daily mission - clean around your silverware holder (I'm taking this to be cutlery tray)

Tuesday is plan and play day (I think) - plan for the week ahead and have a cuppa or two

Back later!

Everyone's quiet today! Hope you are enjoying the sunshine. I've dried a LOL although been at work most of the day.

Safe travels hazel

22in2022 I actually like defrosting the freezer but we have a frost free model at the moment. It's good for that job but it did "frost free" all of our ice cubes so we had to buy a new, enclosed cube tray.

searching the shopping* *was the me time, I get lots of time alone when the kids are in bed but not much chance to get about without them in tow. I enjoyed it and got loads done!

OP posts:
2in2022twoyearson · 10/06/2025 18:50

Oh wow, is it like an air conditioner just sucked away all the moisture? It is quite satisfying, but time consuming and there's never a good time.

SunshineAndSummerShowers · 10/06/2025 19:55

Woke up earlier than usual today, and spent ten minutes or so straightening up some bits and pieces in my bedroom, then same in kitchen. Enjoyed the silence before breakfast.

Searchingfordaffodils · 10/06/2025 21:41

Happy you enjoyed your free time @DillyDeclutter !

Sounds like bliss @SunshineAndSummerShowers , love a quiet morning .

No flying today , a busy busy day , I did fit in a workout though! Tomorrow is still a busy day with work , 2 x appointments and dd2 to gymnastics , will see how the day goes !

Captainladder · 11/06/2025 07:59

Morning fledglings and more advanced flyers!
another busy day yesterday - no decluttering but kitchen tidy and ready for the morning before bed.
I am enjoying all the sauce stories .... I don't think I would have had the dedication to amalgamate marmite though!
@Searchingfordaffodils the class was Zumba.... it was very fast paced and my brain hurt as much as my body from trying to keep up!
Felt soooo stiff and very very achey yesterday- couldn't work out why.... even for an exercise class it seemed extreme.... then I remembered that I'd taken a tumble at work while hastily trying to find a child who had decided to hide up a tree as something has spooked them. That would explain the very very sore left leg!!! I'm booked in to another weights based class today.... I'll see how I go during the day as I'm still really stiff and sore down my leg and back and slept terribly last night, the joys of perimenopause.
I'm pretty sure today is anti procrastination day in Fly world, so posting for accountability that I'll do some forms I've been putting off.
Have a wonderful day all

2in2022twoyearson · 11/06/2025 08:05

We had a lot more food than I realised so may have to abort because I've not unloaded the fridge and have run out of cool bags/ boxes with insulation...I've tried to pack things I could with things to defrost on the outside but there is a lot of cold air leaving my pile. As you can see though ,very frosty!

Indeed, it's Anti Procrastination day! I have a lot I am procrastinating on. I'll aim to do at least one.

Today's mission is to clear your fridge of anything you won't eat or use any time soon. I will definitely get through the mustard eventually so it can stay . . .

Good morning everyone! We made it! It was a very long day and we were all exhausted yesterday, but I'm up (everyone else is still sleeping) and I've already had both cups of coffee! I feel well rested today.

My aunt and uncle will be over for lunch today, we're doing a charcuterie board, trying to keep it easy.

2in2022 I love your little helper, so cute! Did you have to abort the defrosting mission in the end? How long does it usually take to defrost? Could you store things in the bath and cover everything to insulate it? Ours is one that doesn't defrost as well, so I've not had to ever do it.

Captain I used to love Zumba, when I actually had someone to go with. I hope you recover quickly from your tumble!

Searching well done on the workout, on a busy day it can be hard to fit in. I'm impressed!

Sunshine silence is golden! I'm sitting here listening to the birds singing away (through DSs snoring). It's so peaceful.

Dilly that's crazy your freezer defrosted your ice!

2in2022twoyearson · 11/06/2025 10:05

I carried on, chucked a duvet over the cold items and am hoping our kitchen tiles are cold and insulating. I have just reached point of no return. Ds occasionally comes and takes a bit of ice from freezer, but we have reached the age where he'll sit and watch tv, he was an active and engaged baby.

Tadas:
Deep cleaned the and defrosted fridge freezer. Also stored the food in a way that it didn't thaw over 4 hours.
Now I'm ready for a nap but ds hasn't been busy enough to go down. Feeling the afternoon slump, I did have toast for lunch, I'll get myself protein now I think...got some boiled eggs.

Also hoovered a small patch of the living room.
Done one lol, 2nd lol in the machine now (defrosting freezer towels)

Ds tadas:
After watching lots of TV it's off now and he is playing on his own and generally being very lovely and chilled out. He was not easy as a baby so this is really nice surprised that he's more chilled as a 2 year old. I was going to go out to a playground but I think we'll have a pj day. He's only 2 and a half but I said earlier it's a pj day and he's taken it on board.

DillyDeclutter · 12/06/2025 09:30

Morning! It's my day with dd today so school drop off sorted and a bit later posting. Washing is out!

Thursday is errand day, it's my weekly shop day.

Today's mission is to declutter your plastic wrap and foil drawers. Always worth doing in my house no matter how recently it was last done!

Today's baby step is to delete all emails from Flylady. I suggest deleting the Mimsnet ones as a substitute (or maybe unsubscribing from some!)

Hazel glad you've safely arrived, its glorious weather here! What have you noticed most coming back?

2in2022 that sounds very productive and ds2 sounds pretty chilled! Mine were tricky, grumpy babies but lovely once they started walking and talking.

Dilly the first thing I notice is how small the roads are, I'm still too scared to drive over here, even though this is where I learned! 🤦‍♀️
Also, it's so much more built up than it was, even just 7 years ago when I last visited. I almost don't recognise where I'm at in some places!

We are planning on going shopping today, DD & DS still need to get up though! We still haven't got into the hot tub here, we've either been too tired or it's been too late.
DS found his favourite restaurant last night, of course it's the other side of the world to where we live! He loves the coke here (he doesn't usually drink it though), and was so impressed they put a slice of lemon in it! And then, the food! It was an Indian restaurant. He wants to go back!
