Fledglings flying into Joyous June - Monthly Flylady thread

Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

June's habit of the month is drinking water. Whatever gets you drinking, fancy glasses, ice, floral decorations- go for it!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit
Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.
Zones: https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/
Baby Steps: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/
full disclosure: the Flylady website is going through some changes and there have been some issues with it loading/ updating, so I will do my best!

Captain sometimes I vacuum the ILs house every week, but not every week, I did it the other day though because they just aren't vacuuming, despite the robot vacuum we gave them. They have 3 cats & a dog, I can only tolerate it so much before I give in! They do appreciate it though. Sometimes I clean their bathroom as well, but they let me go to their house every working day for lunch. It's my thank you to them.
Well done on your decluttering 🏅

Dilly it's such a lovely feeling to have open space!

2in2022 low energy doesn't sound fun at all 😟 if you need a longer break than 15 minutes, then take it! No need to wear yourself out!
Prepping for the next day really will help, hopefully it'll only take you a few minutes. It makes such a big difference!
I didn't get my lunch ready last night, so had to do it this morning. I was frazzled and ended up being a couple minutes late to work, which I hate doing!

2in2022twoyearson · 04/06/2025 19:25

But I had to get DD from school, otherwise I would probably have had a nap! Perils of being a parent, exhaustion. I only collect my DD from school at 3:15 once a week but It's a real struggle as I have a proper afternoon slump.

Captainladder · 04/06/2025 22:14

agreed .... prepping for the next day helps me hugely. (Sometimes that prepping just means in my head I know what I'm wearing and where it is!!) that and having the coffee machine filled up with water and ready to go..... and having the kids lunch ready (we've got into the habbit of making pizzas on Sunday evening as and make enough to last them for lunches through the week!)
@2in2022twoyearson do you make sure to get enough water and protein? I know if I have a heavy carb lunch I'm like a zombie around 4.
@HazelNotHungryLC sounds like a win win situation .... I'd love to have lunch with a dog and 3 cats! We have a robot hoover too.... but actually it's a faff because we generally need to tidy the floor before it can come out!
no major tada's today but I'm giving myself a 🌟because I went to an exercise class today AND I did my 15 mins declutter. I'm sort of combining declutter with "put away in the right place". Slowly slowly. And I put away the last bits on the draining board which I almost talked myself out of 😂.

DillyDeclutter · 05/06/2025 07:30

2in2022 my DH crashes in the afternoon if he has too many carbs at lunch . . . Fast asleep with two children crashing around . . .

Today's mission is to look up and down in the dining room. Clean Cobwebs off the ceiling, dust the light fitting and dust the skirting boards.

https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-5/ Today's baby step is to look at your self talk. Is it negative? Can you make it positive? Write it down somewhere you'll see it every day.

2in2022twoyearson · 05/06/2025 07:45

Yeah, it's probably that. I had a nap in the living room one day this weekend with two kids crashing about. Only for about 10 minutes though! I have been trying to add more protein to my diet but starting at breakfast. I do normally have a sandwich. I also think I need more sleep overall.

Poisonwood · 05/06/2025 08:20

I’m going to neaten all the bookshelves in the dining room today, makes a big difference to the room. Still on top of shining my sink which is actually a huge step, I get so tired.
My daily yoga has really improved my self-talk, I’ve been so hard on myself all my life and I didn’t deserve it.

Captainladder · 05/06/2025 21:24

Well, no big Tada's today, but have maintained my 15 min decluttering streak (that would make a good app...) so I'm now on a 4 day declutter streak, that's probably 3 days longer than I've ever done 🎉

Searchingfordaffodils · 06/06/2025 05:22

Yay for your decluttering streak @Captainladder !!

Yes I think I'll follow the flylady zones just to structure the decluttering @HazelNotHungryLC because I do tend to go from one area to another !

Well done for keeping on top of the sink shining @Poisonwood ! How did the neatening of bookshelves go ? I love books and reading , I used to find it really hard to get rid of books but now I tend to borrow from the library, or give them to friends / charity shop once I've read them, unless I know I definitely want to read it again.

Yay for the charity shop trip @DillyDeclutter ! It feels so good when you see the tidy space after a good sort through doesn't it !!

Not really much of anything other than the daily maintenance housework wise this week, works super busy , lots of extra hours . I should finish running around by 530 this evening though so I'll straighten up the dining room and hopefully the entrance , I may even treat myself to a hot chocolate whilst I'm completing it - I've been healthy eating this week and not one bit of cake, chocolate or crisps has passed my lips! Some decluttering and a hot chocolate may be a nice way to end the week! The hot chocolate may magically turn into a G&T depending how the day goes !

DillyDeclutter · 06/06/2025 07:15

Morning! Today's mission is to dust and water your houseplants. This is DH's job (he doesn't have many) so I'll be leaving well alone.

Friday is also clean out your car and purse day.

Today's baby step is to learn about hot spots and putting them out
https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-6/

Yesterday was a no housework day for me really, I managed to wash up and put out our key hotspots but not much more.

I just decided a succulent I repotted a while back needed a good water so I put it in the rain today. Love suculants with their low water requirements. But same, DH owns most of the houseplants.

Captainladder · 06/06/2025 21:52

Happy Friday all!
i do all the houseplants in a Monday as a regular thing (mostly orchids) so didn't do that. just checking in to Say I've continued my 15 min declutter and it's beginning to feel like less of a burden. I struggle with making choices - what to keep, what to chuck, but I am more ruthless if I know I've only got to do
15 mins....

DillyDeclutter · 07/06/2025 07:26

Morning! Saturday is family fun day. No missions at the weekend. Although I do need to do the shopping!

Baby step 7 is to put out your clothes for tomorrow when you go to bed tonight.

https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-7/

Now that I've got rid of my charity shop pile, it's probably time to go through the toys again and see what else can go.

The weekend is the best time I have to do missions, so I'm going to have a go at the front door/shoe storage area. I think I can declutter some unused shoes.

DillyDeclutter · 07/06/2025 08:47

2in2022 I'm the same, weekends are much better for missions! I have been musing over my collection of pre-baby and pre-Covid heels. They are in the cupboard in DD's room. Probably a few of them need to go. I'm not quite ready to let them.

Searchingfordaffodils · 07/06/2025 20:06

Trip to the charity shop with a bag of books from the dining room bookcase and a teepee tent from the playroom that have been sat there for about a month waiting to go! Also a black bin liner of kids clothes to a friend.

15 mins on the dining room got rid of a clutter pile 👍

DillyDeclutter · 08/06/2025 08:02

Morning! This week we are on Zone2, the kitchen. No missions at the weekend though- Sunday is renew your spirit day.

Baby step 8 is to write out your morning and evening routines:
https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-8/

It rained heavily here most of yesterday and the forecast for today is similar! I sorted through my drawers and my off season clothes storage and got rid of a few things that no longer fit.

Today we are supposed to be renewing our spirit at outdoor church . . . We will have to see what the weather allows.

searching that sounds extremely satisfying !

Happy Sunday all!
Gosh the rain here yesterday was torrential at times - we were halfway through making pizza in the outdoor pizza oven when it arrived, my lovely DH was outside trying to cook them as the rain came down..... he managed.... and they were amazing, but I think we need a gazebo or awning for such an eventuality!!!
I did 15 min clear out in the food cupboards and got rid of a lot of empty containers and expired foods that we would never use. (Which is why they expired I suspect!) I discovered we have a lot of bbq sauce.... which is a bit random 🤣 I'm so happy I can say I've done a whole
week of decluttering!!!! I've never been able to say that before 🎉

HazelNotHungryLC · 08/06/2025 15:37

I haven't done much flying at all, DS has kept up on it mostly though. We are currently working on getting ready for our big trip back to the UK! We leave tomorrow 😱🥳

We just have 2 LOLs of clothes to wash today, but I also need to wash some towels that will come with us.
DD will be arriving later today, will have laundry as well that she'll be washing.
I'm planning to have everything packed by the end of the day, including shower stuff (we have the little travel bottles that we still need to fill).

Today I'll also be repainting my nails, both fingers and toes, to be completely ready.
Yesterday I handwashed my shoes and DSs shoes, I'm waiting for them to be dry so I can spray them with a protector I just got delivered.

I also would like to get some of my goodies made today so I can have a little thank you gift for our hosts, but I'm not sure if I'll get that far! I may just have to make it be a late night or early morning.
I also want to bathe the dogs before they stay at ILs. We're going to miss them!

I have a lot to do today, but I'm enjoying the quiet in the house with my coffee for now, before I get up & moving.

HazelNotHungryLC · 08/06/2025 16:03

Captain well done on your decluttering all week! We have a lot of BBQ sauce as well, I must have bought it on sale 😂

Dilly I had some heels that I loved, could never wear again, but kept them because they were beautiful. I'm pretty sure I got rid of them when we had the house fire as I haven't seen them since 😪 but I remember them and remember the memories from when I wore them too.

Searching well done on your charity shop run! And for completing a mission 🏅

2in2022 have you been able to add more protein/ reduce your afternoon slump yet?

Poisonwood I absolutely love that yoga is improving your self-talk! I think most of us, if not all of us down-talk ourselves a lot, we don't deserve it!

2in2022twoyearson · 08/06/2025 16:30

Definitely afternoon slumping now, and yesterday too I have made some effort with extra protein lunch but my sleep quality is not good at the moment.

DillyDeclutter · 08/06/2025 17:51

captain we have five open jars of mustard in the fridge and five spares in the cupboard. I feel your sauce related pain.

hazel good luck with the packing etc. I always find going away super stressful. My mum never cleaned except on Christmas Eve and the day before our annual holiday, so I association it with that. Hope you have a safe trip!

Up to date with home jobs. Outdoor church was cancelled as rain was torrential! I thought about cleaning out the fridge but then I sat down and the thought passed. Maybe tomorrow!

Thank you @HazelNotHungryLC for May, and to @DillyDeclutter for this month.

can’t believe the first week of this month has gone by so quickly! Last week was dentists, school review, and prizegivings. This week looks quieter.

Spent a lot of time in the garden the past couple of days, trying to get it under control for when I’m not able to. I need to get rid of a lot more than I first thought. It’s getting out of hand.

Searchingfordaffodils · 09/06/2025 06:19

Morning , my plan of action today is to survive and do the basics. I was out yesterday but still managed about 30 minutes on the dining room, I think next month it will be fully decluttered and I'll be onto the deep cleaning of that room 🤩

I am working all day today then straight to dd2 clubs so I won't get home until about 7 , if I get any more than the basics done , I will be finishing off the weeks uniform ironing, most were ironed yesterday but there's still a few bits that weren't dry. Lots of meetings after work too so all the weekly tasks will probably be left until Thursday! Who invented working? I need to have a chat to them about their crazy idea because I don't like it 😂

Searchingfordaffodils · 09/06/2025 06:27

Are you in the UK for long @HazelNotHungryLC ? The weathers been rubbish but it's going to brighten up as the week goes on so you've picked a great time to visit !

Outdoor pizza sounds amazing @Captainladder !! 🏅 for the weeks worth of decluttering - those little chunks of time really make a difference don't they !!

I hope the rain calmed for you @DillyDeclutter! Do you have an alternative if your church meet is cancelled? I think some can perform their service online ?
