Fledglings flying into Joyous June - Monthly Flylady thread

Join us in building routines to make housework more manageable. Start out with the baby steps, add in the missions in each zone, it will eventually become second nature. Jump right in, you're never left behind!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in 😊

June's habit of the month is drinking water. Whatever gets you drinking, fancy glasses, ice, floral decorations- go for it!

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.

There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.
Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
Tuesday: plan & play
Wednesday: anti-procrastination
Thursday: errand day
Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
Saturday: family fun day
Sunday: renew your spirit
Common acronyms we use:
LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
LMS: lose/lost my shit
DNLMS: did not lose my shit
There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.
Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.
Zones: https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/
Baby Steps: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/
full disclosure: the Flylady website is going through some changes and there have been some issues with it loading/ updating, so I will do my best!

I drive, but I don't enjoy it. Problem is Google maps will take you the narrow windy roads because they are supposedly 60 it calculates it to be the shortest route. Before Google maps we wouldn't have used them so often. My town has redone the layout that's confusing enough for a local and I wouldn't want to be visiting. It's supposedly pedestrian friendly and bike friendly with multi use roads or some nonsense. Issue is our town is not safe to cycle on the roads in my opinion because it's too narrow to pass a bike, they're made the pavements wider, roads narrower have almost no road markings, no extra bike lanes I turned a corner and saw a white bike painted round a blind bend, where they've added raised central sections so I thought this looks like a Dutch bike lane except it's a road cars are allowed on. I could hit a bike here, as there not allowed on pavements. They also changed the left turns of a t junction to right of way so I know my route to work where I have priority but I car nearly colided with me trying to drive straight through the give way line (along a straight road). Another wide viable junction has no markings. Supposedly this makes people slower, because they haven't got a clue what they're supposed to do.

Anyway rant over. I'm coming towards the end of a long shift at work and have felt exhausted this week and DH was not been understanding, we're not in a good place. He says anything about the fridge freezer defrosted. And I slept like I had an anesthetic for the first few hours of the night. I woke up, with DH going to the loo after DD was talking a lot in her sleep. Ds had climbed over me to the middle of the bed but I had not moved at all, felt like no time had passed.

Flylady I checked my calender and to do lists. I shinned the sink last night. Was so exhausted I checked it was shiny a few times, because that's now my bare minimum, possibly an obsession.
I prepared my breakfast and lunch last night, didn't lay my clothes out. Didn't do DD reading all week (neither did DH, he used to be on it) so she wouldn't take her record or book in this morning . Not a battle I was fighting dispite school saying another child needs it next. I suggested I write on a book she volenterily read to me as she reads so much, but not the. chool books as much. I have one more assignment to go and I just don't have the motivation.

Morning

Hazel I had to drive in North Yorkshire last week (we are not far away but I rarely go down there). The bends! The hills! The hedges rendering the road ahead invisible! The tractors coming head on!

2in2022 look after yourself. When I'm stressed, the house being messy makes me more stressed, it can be a vicious cycle.

Friday is clean our your car and purse day. Mine are both in need. It's also date night and we are actually out tonight- a rare treat without the dc.

Today's mission is to check the cleaning supplies under your sink are sufficient. Add anything you need to your shopping list. (Mine are on a high shelf!)

Today's baby step is to do a mission. You could choose any of the ones from this week. https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-13/

Morning!

Saturday is family fun day. No missions at the weekend. I am suffering after nice wine on date night last night so might struggle with the fun!

Baby step day 14 is to read about the Flylady- approved way of using a calendar: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-14/

How is everyone doing?

Good morning Dilly! I'm up after a very late night, catching up with a very good friend, who I haven't seen in 9 years! The wine was flowing, as was the conversation. My head is a little sore today, but not as bad as it could have been.
What did you do on your date night?

We are going to meet up with most of my family at the seaside today! I'm so excited! I haven't spent much time with them since we've been here. We are all a little jet lagged still, so waking up early has been hard!

HazelNotHungryLC · 14/06/2025 08:21

2in2022 I'm sorry to hear that your DH hasn't been understanding. It's really hard when we always make sure everyone else is taken care of and no one reciprocates. I hope you're able to relax this weekend.

HazelNotHungryLC · 14/06/2025 21:37

We went to the seaside today, met up with almost all of my family! It was a lovely day, sun, sand between my toes and a paddle in the sea.
We actually got back at a reasonable time too, had leftover Indian food and about to get into the hot tub.
What did everyone else do today?

2in2022twoyearson · 15/06/2025 07:17

Sounds lovely @HazelNotHungryLC we need a seaside trip as a family. It's father's day so DH is deciding what to do. We made up a couple of days ago, are on the same page now. I have decided to check the next baby step today. 16, reading the flylady website testimonials. I read the daily musing on the app and it was about the importance of boring structure and routines so creativity can flourish! For me right now this is boring conversations with DH as well as the morning and evening routines. Hotspots are on my daily routines but not decluttering and room rescue. Those are on days I have the time and energy...may need to change that to get less stress in our lives.

DillyDeclutter · 15/06/2025 09:02

Morning!

We are in a new zone today, the extras zone - children's bedroom, study, laundry room etc. No missions at the weekend though. Sunday is Renew your Spirit day - a walk, a swim, church, whatever does it for you.

Baby step day 15 is to add making your bed to your morning routine

We love the beach Hazel our closest is about* *20 minutes away and we don't go often enough. Sounds like you are making the most of your time!

2in2022 the beauty of a regular routine is that everything gets quicker as you get more on top of it. A slob comes clean calls it "dishes maths" - on day 1 you are clearing up forever worth of mess - but you get to the point where all you have to do is just today, and maybe yesterday too on a bad day. Hope you find something nice to do today!

We are off out with the inlaws and children for lunch and then probably a walk or garden centre trip. Not necessarily my dream afternoon but nice enough and no washing up!

OP posts:
2in2022twoyearson · 15/06/2025 09:22

We're about as far away as you could get from a beach in the UK so it could takes a couple of hours, longer on hot days when everyone has the same idea.

ExtensivelyDecluttering · 15/06/2025 22:04

@2in2022twoyearson from your description of your town I was starting to wonder if it's the one I work in which has similarly had lots of layout changes but it can't be as we are less than an hour from the sea

@HazelNotHungryLC glad you arrived safely and had a nice beach day, it must feel funny being on the same time zone as the rest of us for a change.

Well, we have blitzed the house and car today as we are away for a few days from tomorrow, looking forward to it. We have just about stashed away all DS's uni stuff now, but DH bought a big new telly 10 days ago and the old one is still standing on the living room floor and the giant box is cluttering up the dining room 🙄.

DillyDeclutter · 16/06/2025 07:36

Morning!

Today's mission is to do a 27 boogie fling in the bathroom. Two ifyou can. We have a very small bathroom that doesn't have much more than 27 things in it (I may be exaggerating here) . . . .

Today is home bleugh day, sheets, hoover, bins etc. Did mine on Saturday.

Today's baby step is to read some of Flyladys website - the Morning Musing or Ask Flylady. These can be a bit marmite imo. https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-16/

I managed a big downstairs reset last night, after the weekend, so not feeling too bad for the week ahead.

Hope you have a good trip ED!

Hello people. Problems for days now with MN on my iphone, and this old ipad is struggling a bit too. Had to change my name slightly before it would let me post.

Not much progress to report. I think I've simply run out of steam. School finishes next Friday, and I'm looking forward to not clock-watching for a few weeks.

DillyDeclutter · 17/06/2025 09:24

Morning!

Hi Sunshine, nearly there. Our end of term stuff is just starting to ramp up - four weeks to go still.

Tuesday is plan and play day, get something planned and then go and have some fun.

Today's bathroom mission is to shine your bathtub. Today's guest bedroom mission is to get the bed guest ready. Mine is a fold out futon bed so guess I'm spared this one!

Today's baby step is to read the Flylady Commandments https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-18/

ED it does feel strange being in the same time zone, I'm not playing catch up with like 5 comments to read on here, it's real time. I like it!
I was thinking of you last night too, we stopped at a pub that had a quiz going on.
Hopefully you're going somewhere nice and enjoy your time away.

Sunshine my DS got done with school already, end of May, but they have a longer summer break in the US. It's so nice!

Dilly still 4 more weeks?! I like the idea of "dishes maths" to only have to worry about a day or two would be nice.

We went to Alton Towers yesterday, it was nice not having to wait in long lines, since school isn't out yet. We're currently on the train, on the way to London, will be spending the day there.

2in2022twoyearson · 17/06/2025 17:33

Hi all,

I am on baby step 17, set a bedtime. now align with the days of the months but I'm taking them slowly, it's been about 3 months. I have 4 pages in my control diary. One for morning and evening routines, in pencil and regular tweeked. One is the baby steps up to 17 and one is a list of inspirational quotes.

Bedtime is suitable as I was up until midnight finishing my assignment last night so tonight and in general it will be 10pm. 10-6 is 8 hours sleep. Last night I got 5.

I've not got into missions or zones yet. Still got to find a suitable routine. I find 2 minutes hotspots a too short timer. So I do 5 minutes and my hotspots/room rescue and decluttering is all merged a bit.

Did you enjoy London? I used to love Southbank in the 00s but since we hosted the Olympics it just got crazy with tourists. Olympics may have been irrelevant.

ExtensivelyDecluttering · 17/06/2025 19:14

Hope you've had a lovely day in London @HazelNotHungryLC I always like a day trip there. We're in Wales, the weather is lovely so far. We are in a rented apartment which is clutter free and spotless, food for thought!

HazelNotHungryLC · 17/06/2025 21:12

ED I love Wales! It's so beautiful 😍 our airbnb is nicely done, although not quite up to my standard of clean really. I had to wipe the kitchen countertops down and wash everything before using it, not great! I haven't done much cooking though.

2in2022 I'll be working on my bedtime when we get back. I really need to start being strict with myself, just like I was with my DC when they were younger!

We enjoyed London, we went through the dungeons, which was so much fun! We also went on the London Eye. DD started not feeling good though, so we didn't see as much as we wanted. It means we'll be back to the airbnb earlier (after stopping in to see my mum for a few minutes). We might actually get more sleep tonight!

2in2022twoyearson · 18/06/2025 06:53

I was good with my bedtime, but lay in and rembered 2 things I hadn't done. I didn't get up and do then but wrote them down so I could sleep. Went to do the party food order this morning for Saturday and I'm too late now, supermarket food to go orders is 4 days, wouldn't have been too late last night. Ranted to my husband and he added to my negative voices saying I should have done it earlier, we had decided I would organise the food weeks ago. I was trying to stop procrastinating from my assignment, and scheduled today to party plan.

So an earlier baby step of changing negative thoughts to positive ones. This is a first world problem. I have the opportunity to make my own party sandwiches which will be cheeper and filled with love (some flylady cheese).

HazelNotHungryLC · 18/06/2025 10:30

2in2022 I love the Flylady cheese! With making your own you also know what's going into the food too.

We just checked out of our airbnb, other than not being able to vacuum, mop, clean bathrooms, it's clean. I washed up, put everything away and left a little something for the host 😇

We have a night's stay at a hotel by Heathrow before we fly out in the morning, hopefully today will be a little calmer (other than the drive!)

DillyDeclutter · 18/06/2025 12:47

Good afternoon!

Well, as I got the date wrong yesterday, the baby step is already posted . . .

Wednesday is anti procrastination day, sort something out that's been waiting a while. I have some admin to do for the little charity I'm a trustee of

Today's missions are to de- Cobweb your guest bedroom and wash your bath mats. It's a lovely day here for getting the washing out!

hazel wow the time has flown. London, the beach and Alton Towers - you must have covered some distance! Have a safe trip down today.

2in2022 I also love a bit of Flylady cheese. These things happen!

ed I love a clean uncluttered holiday home but I also love having All My Things.

I need to get some housework done in this nearly an hour before school run and wrap dds present from ds with him. Dreading going out in this heat. Ds is watching TV, I just need to get on set a 15 minute timer and go.

DillyDeclutter · 19/06/2025 07:04

Morning!

Thursday is errand day. It's my day off with 5 I have quite a list to get through! 2in2022 hope you got done what you wanted yesterday.

Today's mission is to throw away old and expired cosmetics and lotions. Do a second 27 boogie fling in the bathroom or hoover/sweep the room.

Todays baby step doesn't seem to add anything new, just reinforcing your routines:

Well we have landed on US soil, in the car now for our 3 hours journey to the house. This plane was so much more comfortable than on our way there!

Dilly the time really did fly, and yes, lots of miles on the rental car and very long days. I'm so glad we have 3 days off before going back to work!

Our trip away was far too short and long overdue. I will be glad to get home though, get back into routine and get back to eating well again. After eating things I shouldn't have (but enjoyed) I'm feeling bloated and feel like I've gained 10 pounds!

HazelNotHungryLC · 19/06/2025 22:27

2in2022 did you manage to get everything done that you were hoping?
