Getting back into routines can be hard, with DC going back to school, this is the perfect time to start getting back into the swing of things.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start to get your house back under control from the summer holidays? Or just wanting to try something new?
Join us and try out Flylady! It just may work for you 😊

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month!

Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Thank you Cabbage for running the August thread, it was nice to have a chat thread with a little Flylady mixed in!
I'm hoping that being thread leader again this month will help me focus and get back into routine since the summer holidays threw that out the window!

Thanks to Cabbage for the chat, and to Hazel for getting us back in line again 💐

CabbageBearGoat · 31/08/2024 18:49

Placemarking... I have set an extremely low bar for September ("tripping hazard in hell" kind of low), so I'm hoping I meet it 🤣 Thanks for leading this one @HazelNotHungryLC

SleepingIceDragons · 31/08/2024 21:55

Oh i can get behind the tripping hazard low bar. <ignores the fact that building site is basically one giant tripping hazard>

Hoping to get some routines going in September. Something needs to start going a little better around here and if i don't sort it no one will.

Searchingforsunnydays · 01/09/2024 01:29

Thanks for Augusts thread @CabbageBearGoat 💐 and thanks @HazelNotHungryLC for running Septembers 💐

I really want to focus on cooking this month and re-establishing routines . I'm currently up in pain with my leg and my arm again so my motto will be something is better than nothing.

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/09/2024 05:14

😂😂😂 bar so low it's a tripping hazard! All fed, no one dead is another good goal if anyone needs it!

sunny I hope you arm and leg gets better soon. Take it easy!

We had DSs birthday dinner tonight. I made cheesecake earlier today before staining a bunch of brick.

Sunday is renew your spirit day. There are no missions.
Renewing your spirit can mean something different to everyone. Some people go to church, others take a walk in nature. You could spend time with family or by yourself. You can indulge in your favourite dessert or do a workout. This is very personal. What works for you doesn't necessarily work for everyone else. Spend your Sunday trying to figure out what your "thing" is, if you don't already know.

I am going to a town a little ways away to go swim, go down water slides and then sit in the hot pools (local hot springs, as Yellowstone isn't far from us). This is what DS wants to do with a friend for his birthday, but I love going here every year!
What will you do?

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 01/09/2024 05:22

sunny I forgot to ask.. is there something specific that you're wanting to cook or are you talking meal planning and prep?

OP posts:
CabbageBearGoat · 01/09/2024 06:12

I love "all fed, no dead" @HazelNotHungryLC ! I might need that one.

I can't take credit for the tripping hazard comment, it's part of a funny phrase that has stuck with me for years and comes to mind occasionally: "The bar was so low it was practically a tripping hazard in hell, yet here you are limbo dancing with the devil" 🤣

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/09/2024 06:37

Definitely not my quote, but I'd seen on it these flylady threads long before I actually joined in the chat (years ago now).
I love that phrase too 😂🤣😂

Right. I am here for September and I will sort this house out!

Dc are back at school / college in dribs and drabs from Wednesday onwards

90% of back to school stuff has been purchased

Biggest thing i need to declutter in life remains to be the man child. It has been a seriously rough year here and I have needed to show compasion and empathy through shit situations but i am so done. Really hopeful for a clean break before Christmas.

Anyway. Back to today

Ta da
💛 little 3 dc up and fed
💚 located angry 3 year olds missing comforter
💛 1 LOL done, second in
💚 made my bed and opened curtains
💛 dishwasher full and on
💚 recycling out

DillyDeclutter · 01/09/2024 09:13

I'm here too, fell off August. Thanks Hazel for running the thread this month and thank you Cabbage for August.

We had a big influx of toys from kind friends and family having clear outs so there are things everywhere. The house definitely needs a reset.

However there is also a potential opportunity for a big promotion at work so balancing preparation with family life is going to be super tricky for September.

LOL done today and feeding my soul with the last BBQ of the summer - we are a veggie family and I've really got into BBQ cooking this year.

Scourgify · 01/09/2024 09:13

“Bit of a cock-up on the catering front.” Anyone remember that? I was perfectly organised until the cad was declined, and now I’m off to tesco.

I will spend a while enjoying the sun and wind and the trees out in the lane. I’ll have a latte and just let my mind wander before some garden tidy and sorting the kitchen.

Captainladder · 01/09/2024 09:24

Hello all! I lurked in the last few weeks of fhe August thread and followed along .... I came across Flylady first about 19 years ago and there was a period where it worked quite well for me - and then somehow it fell away. I've not long come back from holiday - where I realised one thing I LOVE about going away is the lack of "stuff"... so my aim over the next (academic) year is to create my own "holiday home".... and ditch everything I can. Obviously I've started this several times in the last few years but become
over enthusiastic and suffered burnout and gone back to square one. So, I'm really going to try and focus on little daily decluttering but be consistent!
Today is renew your spirit day so I'm going for a dog walk with a friend (our dogs are doggie friends too!) so it should be lovely! Have a wonderful day all.
off to put on a LOL. X

DillyDeclutter · 01/09/2024 09:41

Captainladder we had the opposite, went away to a colleagues second home which was FULL of junk, equally I've come home with a renewed desire to declutter!

Vgtasd · 01/09/2024 09:44

Oh my goodness I love this! Can I join please? Xx

Searchingforsunnydays · 01/09/2024 10:56

Tada
🎉 went back to bed about 3am and was up just after 8 so a good block of sleep 😴
🎉 breakfasts for everyone
🎉 LOL started (the weather is horrible here so probably will be hung on the heated airer ! )
🎉 detagged the last of the uniforms ready for rinsing through the wash
🎉 15 mins on the entrance which was clearing the stairs of clutter and a detailed hoover with the crevice tool . I won't be sorting the coats this month or washing the welcome mat because I've completed that recently

This afternoon dd2 is going swimming with friends, she wasn't going to go because I can't go in the pool with having my hair highlighted yesterday but my friends have said that if I get her changed they'll take her into the pool with them and I can sit and have a coffee with a book! Such a lovely offer, so that's going to be my renewed spirit hour for today 🙂

@HazelNotHungryLC mainly meal planning and prepping , it's something that I really struggle with , mainly because of the timeframe of finishing work and school and being back out of the house for the kids sports , but it's also not knowing what to cook in the first place 😂 You mentioned previously about using the slow cooker so I'm going to attempt using that on the quick turnaround days .

Welcome to all the newbies and welcome back to those of you returning after the summer holiday ☀️😎

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2024 11:40

Hello! Thank you for the new thread Hazel 🌹

I am coming back… again. Life has been chaotic to say the least and I need to claw back some control, or at least the illusion of it!

The house is SO awful at the moment. I was struggling anyway since H moved out (we are still together, technically, and I wanted space, so the move is a good thing, but it’s a big change after 21 years!). Then life threw various things at me, health etc nothing terrible thankfully just A Lot To Deal With At Once!

I am very much feeling the pressure to get my shit together TBH, as I really don’t want the narrative to be that I can’t cope without him, so here I am. He’s having the Caglets (now 17, 15 and 6!) for a few days from tomorrow specifically so I can tackle the house uninterrupted. But I also want to get stuff done today so that I can hit the ground running (or limping, really, as energy is an issue!). Feeling somewhat overwhelmed and worried that I’ll burn out fast and waste these three days.

Power of three time for sure! I have some life/work admin (setting up my new business because I didn’t have enough change in my life already apparently 🤣) to do as well so I’m going to try and find a decent balance today… 😬

po3.1
❗️LOL
❗️sign Cagletini up for a four week judo trial
❗️fill a binbag, probably upstairs

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2024 11:41

Captain I felt the same after housesitting this summer - really renewed my need to live more simply! The home I stayed in wasn’t minimalist or like a holiday home but it was well organised and uncluttered.

THATchickennchipsbasicbitch · 01/09/2024 12:06

How on earth is cagletini six years old

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2024 12:52

THAT!!! OMG I hadn’t seen you were back as not caught up yet. How are things? And yeah I can’t believe it either, she will be 7 next month 😱

It was worrying how easily I filled a bin bag upstairs, I also filled a massive box with recycling. Bedroom is still awful but it is marginally better 😬

po3.2
❗️fill in some online forms for Cagletini to join St John Ambulance club
❗️rotate DW
❗️declutter fridge

THATchickennchipsbasicbitch · 01/09/2024 13:21

Things arent amazing. Need to somehow get to the point where the man child and I are not under same roof. Currently living like room mates who dislike each other. DC are all good. One starting reception, one starting high school, one starting college, one doing gcses, one chilled one and one wild one! I had a promption at work, the additional stress / responsibility has been alot. Everything is a bit full on tbf.

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2024 13:23

Welcome vgtasd!

I still need to sort the dishwasher and fridge but I will also get the Caglets to help tidy the living room a bit (it’s SO BAD) and then we can play an old Wii game together - I just discovered it in my room while tidying, I’d forgotten I bought it 🙈 I used to love that game when we first had a Wii so it will definitely count as spirit renewing 😁

MissMarplesNiece · 01/09/2024 13:30

September is going to be the month when I make a serious effort to declutter.

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2024 14:55

Ah that I’m sorry he’s not moved out yet, that’s really difficult. 💐 It’s the opposite here in that H lives elsewhere but we are not actually split yet, I want to - there is no way I’m living with him again - but finding the courage to actually end it isn’t easy.

We will get there in the end though and life will be so much better right? 💪

We had a good tidy up in the living room, it’s still a mess but it’s less awful!
