Getting back into routines can be hard, with DC going back to school, this is the perfect time to start getting back into the swing of things.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start to get your house back under control from the summer holidays? Or just wanting to try something new?
Join us and try out Flylady! It just may work for you 😊

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month!

Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Tada - back to work day 🥺
🎉 beds made
🎉 washed and dressed
🎉 lunches made and breakfast eaten
🎉 work
🎉 dentist (no fillings 👏 the hygienist has caught my gum which is pretty sore but I'm sure all will be good tomorrow!)
🎉 tea plated up and warmed through (Sunday roast leftovers)

I have the evening routine to do but I've made the mistake of sitting down ! I'm going to put my AirPods in with an audio book and at least reset for tomorrow, then try and get a few of todays fly lady tasks done ✔️

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/09/2024 18:21

sunny he's feeling better today. I got about 6 hours of sleep in the end, according to my watch, but I had fallen asleep on the couch and I wasn't wearing it, so really who knows 🤷‍♀️ I don't feel overly tired today though, but it was a very late start for me (I got up at 9:45am!).

Ta das so far:
☕️ 1st lol in the washer
☕️ 2nd cup of coffee drank, outside on the swing
☕️ watered my plants outside
☕️ put the house away correctly

I still need to get dressed though and get more done around the house, including cleaning the bathroom again as I've seen places I missed 😪

Captainladder · 02/09/2024 18:42

Oh noooo @HazelNotHungryLC - I sympathise. I have two teenage sons who have in the past had form for overeating and then vomiting. The older one had the added joy of really hating feeling like he's going to be sick and used to lie on the floor of the bathroom screaming just before throwing up.
I hope you manage some rest today.

Looks like everyone has been very busy! I've managed to keep my 15 mins decluttering a day up for 6 days now my longest streak so far! (I'm keeping track with my Duolingo streak counter so I have to do that too...)

todays wins
🎉persuaded DS 1 to peel off his dirty bed linen and have washed it.
🎉2 LOLs
🎉15 min zone declutter

am going back to work after the holidays tomorrow though.... let's see how that affects things.... it's been nice to be able to potter at my own pace for a while!

SleepingIceDragons · 02/09/2024 19:08

Oh heck Hazel hopefully lessons learnt although honestly we all wish they would take the easy route rather than the by experience one Hope you can catch up on the sleep ok

People have been fed. I need to move and actually get my steps in. - i set walking as my monthly habit.

SingToTheSky · 02/09/2024 19:13

Evenin’ all. Didn’t go to my friend’s in the end, we’ve postponed for later in the week as we both had stuff to attend to! I have got loads done today, the house is absolute chaos but I am throwing lots away (including some recycling too) and trying to get some sort of order in the mess. After my first power of three I realised my ADHD brain was needing to take over so rather than having a plan I’m just doing whatever I feel like tidying and it seems to be working, I’ve done a little bit in most rooms, and have taken frequent rest breaks with TV so I’m not worn out or bored.

Going to carry on a bit longer, I’ll have dinner when the tesco delivery arrives but hopefully will do a bit more before bed.

Searchingforsunnydays · 02/09/2024 21:06

Tada
🎉 tidied kitchen
🎉 15 mins ironing
🎉 quick tidy downstairs
🎉 dd2 reading and times tables
🎉 dd2 showered and bedtime routine
🎉 myself showered including hair washed & dried
🎉 bag packed for work
🎉 everyone's clothes ready

I should really do 15 mins decluttering and a few of Mondays tasks but it's now 9pm . I am going to try and switch off before bed to see if I can settle a little earlier .

Scourgify · 02/09/2024 22:03

Slept in this morning - I realky shouldn’t have been updating on here at midnight! TeenGirl started the breakfasts and I got TeenBoy moving just in time.

Dates for prelims and Nat 5s were published today. TG managed to sit with me and do homework. For the first time in months TB let me read to him, which was lovely and he cuddled in to listen. He told me that he had been saying he didn’t want to because he thought he was too old :-((

I gathered all the dustsheets together in the morning. Also found a disposable boiler suit. Did some chopping of branches for the garden waste bin. Completed the Teens’ data checks for school and the forms are back in their bags for tomorrow.

Having a relatively early night. Don’t want to sleep in again!

Dolphinnoises · 02/09/2024 22:11

Thanks everyone - we are in chaos at the moment as we’ve just moved house but I am starting as I mean to go on… sink is shiny and hall is - well, a work in progress 😬 Good to be tackling it with others though - last time it really helped

HazelNotHungryLC · 03/09/2024 05:04

Ta das:
🧚‍♀️ LOLs x5 total (including gentle wash which included shower curtain & bath mats)
🧚‍♀️ cleaned main bathroom again, wiped walls and skirting boards as well
🧚‍♀️ rotated DW x2
🧚‍♀️ handwashed dishes
🧚‍♀️ made sink shiny & wiped countertops
🧚‍♀️ cleaned microwave
🧚‍♀️ sorted and cleared hotspot in entryway
🧚‍♀️ put away other random crap from the kitchen
🧚‍♀️ put away clean clothes
🧚‍♀️ changed sheets on DSs bed

We ended up watching 3 movies this afternoon/ evening as well. It's been a lovely day off (it was a holiday over here - labor day, so we were all at home). I will do the rest of home bleugh tomorrow.

Captain it takes some practise, but hopefully you'll find a routine that works for you being back to work. Well done on the zone work, I hope that makes a difference for you.

Dragons I thought he would have learnt it long ago, but apparently thought he'd outgrow it or something. I'm not sure if he was trying to keep up with the amount SIL & BIL were eating at the restaurant, but that's a while other thread right there..
I'm trying to keep my steps up as well, I did well last month.

Sing do what works for you! If you're able to do a little bit each day in every room (or at least a couple rooms), things will improve over time.

sunny you had a productive day as well! Being your future friend really helps as well. I always get my clothes out the night before when I work the next day, it makes it so much easier in the morning.

Scourgify I'm trying to have an earlier night tonight as well. It will be an early morning here as I'll be getting DS to school.

Dolphin starting how you wish to carry on in a new house is definitely a great goal. It sounds like you've started out in the right direction already.

HazelNotHungryLC · 03/09/2024 05:14

Tuesday is plan & play day. I'm actually going to need to get meals figured out for the week and go grocery shopping, since I didn't do it over the weekend. So this works out perfect for me!

Tuesday's mission is to sweep off your front porch, shake out your mats & wipe down your front door. This makes such a difference coming into the house. Don't forget the door handle and clean off any fingerprints or smudges on the door and door frame.
https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/zone-1/

Baby Step 3: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-3/ Keep shining your sink & getting dressed to shoes.

We are starting to build routines. Get dressed and ready for the day in the morning, have an empty, shiny sink at the end of the day, before bed. It really does make a difference to your morning to go into the kitchen to see a shiny sink 1st thing.

I have to admit, my kitchen was a mess this morning, had been since Saturday. But I got it under control today and it's so calming to have clear, clean surfaces.

Hello everyone

Lurking, my bar is so low it's on the floor.

Done in September

Emailed DS's college because he still hasn't heard about his course for this year.
Asked work about Dd's Right To Work for her most recent Tesco job application, not resolved yet.

DS is 18 this month and Dd is 21 in October - how is this possible think I originally joined this thread just after DS was born!

To Do
Take mountain of clothes to the clothes bank - think they've been sitting in bedroom for 6 months.
Put Dd's drum kit and keyboard on to FB to get rid of.
Find someone who wants a mountain of lego.

Just need to find some energy from somewhere. Work is going well, can't believe I've been at Tesco's for a year. Working Friday 2 - 10, Sunday and Monday evening means I have to tweak FLYlady routines slightly. Unfortunately my arthritis isn't appreciating Tesco's think soon I might have to leave clothing and move onto tills which will be sad but fingers and elbows are getting really bad.

To Do
Tesco delivery
Dd's tea
Put clean washing mountain away.

Will do replies next time I'm on, have read them all though thinking of all of you.

CabbageBearGoat · 03/09/2024 18:15

Today's low bar met: bed folded back and aired until lunchtime, and another 30mins picking up fallen apples - all done now.

Bonus wins:

  • Swish and swipe of ensuite sink
  • Cleared draining board

I also managed to spend a good few hours on a low priority work task, which felt satisfying. I've been struggling with work, with how much (or not!) I can get done before baby arrives and what that means for me long-term... so today was a "reset" and I feel like it worked. More low priority things set for tomorrow.

Searchingforsunnydays · 03/09/2024 22:07

Todays tadas
🎉 washed, dressed , hair & makeup
🎉lunches made
🎉 everyone up and breakfasts
🎉 15 mins decluttering dining room
🎉 15 mins ironing
🎉 dropped dd2 off at grandmas
🎉 work
🎉 coffee with MIL whilst picking up dd2
🎉 tea made (freezer meal)
🎉 20 mins planning
🎉 dropped dd2 off at gymnastics
🎉 removed and repainted dd1 gel nails
🎉 clothes out for tomorrow
🎉 picked dd2 up from gymnastics
🎉 dd2 bedtime routine
🎉 make up off and pjs on !
🎉 quick tidy round

Now settled watching sweet tooth with ds , will be going up to be soon as I'm shattered - OH was snoring so loudly last night that I'm sure the walls were shaking 🤣

HazelNotHungryLC · 03/09/2024 22:54

Shannara welcome back 👋 sorry to hear your arthritis is playing up.

Cabbage that looks like a pretty productive day to me!

sunny I'm exhausted reading your ta da list! Fingers crossed for you that your DH won't keep you awake with his snoring tonight 🤞

Ta das:
🧚‍♀️ dropped DS off at school
🧚‍♀️ stripped bed and washed sheets
🧚‍♀️ meal list for the week
🧚‍♀️ grocery shopping

OP posts:
EternallyDelighted · 03/09/2024 23:29

Welcome back @Shannaratiger , I know what you mean, my DD is 18 too and I joined these threads when she was at pre-school. Sorry to hear about the arthritis.

I was out for 14 hours today so no Flying to report. But it was a nice day. In bed now with a little glass of wine.

HazelNotHungryLC · 04/09/2024 04:25

More ta das:
🧚‍♀️ stained more brick
🧚‍♀️ picked DS up from school
🧚‍♀️ took DS out to sell chocolates for a fundraiser
🧚‍♀️ took DS to marching band practise
🧚‍♀️ swept the carport and side entrance
🧚‍♀️ DH picked DS up while I cooked dinner

I did stain more brick multiple times today. I did also pick MIL up and took her home while her car was being worked on today. I really didn't do any cleaning in the house today, I really needed to. I lost all motivation. I doubt anything will get done now until the weekend as it's back to work for me.

I hope you enjoyed your wine ED! I'm sure you needed it after a full day out 🍷

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.

Wednesday's mission is to spend 15 minutes decluttering in the dining room.
https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/zone-1/
Detailed cleaning (if you are done decluttering): https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/detailed-cleaning-zone-1/
Baby Step 4: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-4/
Get dressed to shoes, shine your sink and read her message on her website. Then write these things down (on a sticky note/ in a notebook if your prefer) as this is the start of the control journal. I have a confession: I have not done this, but others have, so do what works for you!

Ive done something to my knee - twisted it? sprained it? Not quite sure, but it's very painful to stand or walk about. So, very little done around the house yesterday. Hopefully I'll get a bit more done today.

Scourgify · 04/09/2024 07:05

My anti-procrastination project for today is to complete a small, but emotionally triggering, life admin task and send it special delivery, whereupon it becomes someone else’s problem.

Didn’t do much yesterday beyond the bare essentials. Dragged a couple of things down from the shed after the school run. My plan is to get all the camping stuff together then dispose of unwanted items.

Another bag of garden waste went in the appropriate bin for collection Friday. I want all the brown bins full by then. I think there are only three more collections before the break at the end of this year.

mikado1 · 04/09/2024 09:03

Scourgify · 04/09/2024 14:47

Got the anti-procrastination task done. All-in-all, including driving to Post Office and back, took little more than an hour. Had a McD breakfast because I was jangling by then, and a large coffee settled me.

Two bags of dustsheets sorted into massive paint-stained to stay in garage with paint, and the softer ones in the utility for hot wash.

Two airbeds now in house to see if they leak. Also brought in two sliding metal baskets for cupboard.

Washed dishes, tidied kitchen, handwashed a couple of things. going to family badminton club this evening for the first time. I hope to scroll and snooze in the carpark instead.
