Getting back into routines can be hard, with DC going back to school, this is the perfect time to start getting back into the swing of things.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and don't know where to start to get your house back under control from the summer holidays? Or just wanting to try something new?
Join us and try out Flylady! It just may work for you 😊

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month!

Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Launch Pad: www.flylady.net/d/new-links/

Zones: www.flylady.net/d/zones/

Tada
🎉 folded dry washing from the airer and put away (there is still a sofa full and I've got a backlog of clothes in my room to be put away but I'll get to that one day 🤪 concentrating on small wins)
🎉 got out a few work things to iron
🎉 took dd2 swimming and had an hour reading my book whilst she had fun with her friends

OH is making a Sunday roast and it smells so good ! Hoping to get a good 15 mins or so on the ironing next, maybe 15 mins on the dining room and 30 mins on admin/getting bag ready for tomorrow!

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/09/2024 15:30

Welcome @Captainladder & @Vgtasd 👋 the more the merrier!

Sing good to see you back! I was thinking the same thing as that how is cagletini 6 already!? How is your new business going? Do you have a designated space for it already?

that it's good to see you back as well. It does sound hard living in the same house as someone you dislike. Well done on your promotion!

Dilly & Miss welcome back 👋 try to just do 15 minutes of decluttering a day so you don't get overwhelmed

sunny for inspiration for meals, I have seen threads on mn as well as Pinterest. When I'm really organised I look at what's on sale and try to find meals based on that. That hasn't happened in a long time though!

I'm sorry if I've missed anyone, I didn't mean to. I've got to get dressed so we can leave soon for our day out!

For the newbies who may not know, I'm in the US, I'm 7 hours behind the UK so it's just gone 8:30am here. I do try to update the links before I go to bed, but if I don't, you can click on the links in the OP and it'll be updated for you.

Oh yes forgot to say congrats on the promotion that - I bet once ex is out that will feel easier too!

Business isn’t really up and running yet as I decided to take a break over summer (when much of my target audiences wouldn’t be looking for my work anyway), totally worth it as I’ve had such a great summer for the first time in years. It’s training so I don’t need premises or anything like that luckily, tbh other than marketing I have no expenses which is good! I’m taking my time with all that but I need to sort my website content soon which is a bit scary. Been getting some good networking done though.

Trying to decide how much more to do today! I still need to sort the fridge, I’ll need a tesco delivery tomorrow.

SingToTheSky · 01/09/2024 15:53

In terms of work area I really do need to sort my desk out too, I’m regretting the one I chose a year ago and I barely used it as it’s covered in random crap most of the time, but I need to try again. My uni books for the year arrived the other day too which is exciting - I’m on year 4 of 6 as I’m studying part time.

EternallyDelighted · 01/09/2024 20:23

Thank you @HazelNotHungryLC for the new thread, I will do it again one of these days, promise! Thank you also to @CabbageBearGoat for last month, I didn’t post much but was lurking. Welcome to all newcomers and returners, it’s always nice to have some extra people joining us.

@SingToTheSky I can’t believe Cagletini is 6 nearly 7 either.

@THATchickennchipsbasicbitch we are here for moral support for decluttering the manchild. Well done on the promotion.

@HazelNotHungryLC hope you have had a lovely day, that outing sounds fabulous.

Well, I was supposed to have the house to myself all day both days this weekend, it didn’t quite work out that way today (Dparents had a problem and I had to go over to theirs for a few hours, all OK now though but I got back and just lazed). It was SO hot and humid too.

Yesterday I blitzed the kitchen. DW rotated, counters scrubbed, main food cupboard decluttered, shelves wiped and everything back in place. Two deep pan drawers also emptied, wiped and rearranged. Breakfast bar cleared of random crap. It was all very satisfying. I went to the tip a few days ago too, so feel I am having a good run. Tomorrow is work for me, DH and DS, DD has a few more days off college. I ought to do my packed lunch

Searchingforsunnydays · 01/09/2024 21:20

Thanks @HazelNotHungryLC 💐I hope you've all had a lovely day .

Welcome back @EternallyDelighted

You do so well keeping up with studying @SingToTheSky, I admire your determination!

Tada
🎉 ironing
🎉 15 mins in the dining room , a lovely clear space now
🎉a yummy roast dinner
🎉 dd2 reading
🎉 shower & bag packed ready for tomorrow (I'm still in full denial that the summer holidays are over ! )
🎉 dd2 in bed at a half decent time

I'm going to try and go up at a decent time and read , I don't think I'll sleep tonight but at least if I'm relaxing, it's still rest .

Scourgify · 02/09/2024 00:04

Tesco in the morning, got a new sudoku book and McD’s for a late breakfast. Relaxed with latte, puzzles, and tv once the messages were put away. Found a podcast of sci-fi short stories which made washing the dishes much more enjoyable. 😀

SleepingIceDragons · 02/09/2024 00:15

Another who went "wtf. how is cagletini 6?!" when they first read that. Sing
Sorry that the manchild has not moved out yet That.

Got a bit done in the kitchen and some laundry done. Which is a good start.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/09/2024 01:50

Sing it sounds like talking a break for the summer is a good idea, especially if the demand isn't there until school starts.

ED that was a productive day for you, and I'm sure the rest was well needed and deserved!

sunny are you having trouble sleeping? You said you don't think you would get any sleep tonight!

Scourgify anything to make doing the dishes more enjoyable is a good thing! It looks like you had a well balanced day.

Dragons that is a good start!

We had a great day, didn't make it to the hot pools, lunch took forever so it pushed everything back, time- wise, and we needed to leave by a certain time to get back to the dogs.
We are almost home, we will stop at the house to see to the dogs, before going out to eat. We are meeting up with ILs at our favourite Mexican restaurant. Margaritas here we come!

Monday is the day for the home blessing (or home bleugh). Change bed sheets, empty bins, quick vacuum around, all in an hour of course 🙄 however, this can be split into 10 or 15 minute chunks and spread across the week, if that helps.

We are in zone 1 this week, front porch, entryway and dining room.
https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/zone-1/
Monday's mission is to spend 10 minutes tackling the hotspot in your entryway. Put away anything set down to be put away later. This can mean mail set down on a table or shelf (if you have one in your entryway), any jackets that shouldn't be there, anything random set down as you walk into the house, etc.

I did of course forget that baby steps carry on over the weekend 🤦‍♀️
Baby Step 1: shine your sink
https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/shine-sink/
Baby Step 2: get dressed to shoes

If you easily get a queasy stomach, please just skip this post..

Nothing like the sound of your child throwing up at 1:30am to wake you up!
Poor DS, he had eaten too much at dinner (his words) which he done before, but it's been a long time. But I was not expecting the horror I walked into.
His bedroom is downstairs in the basement, he had to run upstairs to get to the bathroom. Unfortunately he didn't get the toilet lid and seat up quick enough!
Needless to say, I'm currently sitting up with him until he's done changing and heading back to bed... and throwing up again 😪
I've already bleached the heck out of the bathroom, but will need to do it again tomorrow, as well as wash the shower curtain and bath mat 🙄 And probably walls, cupboards etc.
I'm just grateful he made it to the bathroom. He did not throw up on any carpet!

Okay, I'm done.. please resume normal service

The low bar September goals:

  • Make bed every day (peel it back to air)
  • Get into garden every day (even if to just stand there)

So far one down: bed is completely stripped off and the windows open!

The ultimate plan is that in being in the garden regularly again I'll work on it little by little. I find it so grounding (!) and really useful for regulating day to day stress to just have a kind of "yes but what will I do for the garden today" at the back of my mind. Stress levels are super high trying to get any work done now firmly into 3rd trimester (both because of low ability and tbh low inclination as my brain is just "babybabybaby" right now). Trying not to get caught up in "but if she comes early that's October which is ONE MONTH'S TIME". Anyway.

We were out yesterday (our big laundry day as we get half price electric on Sundays atm), so I'm anticipating a week of chaotic laundry while we catch up, but it is worth it.

CabbageBearGoat · 02/09/2024 09:48

I have a separate question about name changes - how do you keep track? As in, ideally I'd change my usernames more frequently but I worry a little people won't know who I am on long threads like this one. Equally, starting with "hello I used to be Xusername" seems somewhat counter productive. Maybe "NC but regular" is sufficient and you can work it out based on posting style and descriptions of rooms 🤣

SingToTheSky · 02/09/2024 10:26

Oh no Hazel poor DS and you 😭🤢

We have had a lazy morning here, H should be here fairly soon to collect the Caglets and then I’m going to crack on with housework. A new friend invited me over later, I wasn’t planning to go out at all while I have these few days, but it will be nice and it’s a good incentive to hopefully get stuff done before I go!

Dolphinnoises · 02/09/2024 10:53

Hello! Can I join you? I did Flylady in the past and would like to give it another go. I’d love some company as I do…

EternallyDelighted · 02/09/2024 11:00

@CabbageBearGoat re namechanges, I think most people do variations on a theme, mine is always two words starting with ED so people tend to address me as ED and know who I am. In your case if you kept the word Cabbage in there we'd know who you were. Doesn't work for complete anonymity if that is the goal but it does restrict people advance searching on your name. Also on any given thread it always reverts back to the name you first posted with so if I change mine now it will still be EternallyDelighted for the rest of this thread. I usually change mine about once a month. Also, I feel the same about gardening, I often go out and just pull up one or two weeds, and the first thing I do every morning is open the back door and either go out or at least stand there and breathe in the fresh air.

@HazelNotHungryLC oh no, poor DS, poor you.

@Dolphinnoises welcome, the more the merrier!

SingToTheSky · 02/09/2024 11:22

H is here and will be taking the Caglets soon. Feeling very tired and unmotivated but absolutely must get some stuff done straight away - start as I mean to go on!

po3.1
❗️add last few bits to DW and switch on
❗️put away last bits of dry laundry
❗️wash out a couple of boxes that I’ll be packing H’s stuff into

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 02/09/2024 14:40

Thanks for the thread Hazel and for last month Cabbage

I name change for fun Cabbage when I first joined MN I did it every month since we had a new thread every month, now I do it once a year and I usually make it something linked to my old name so people know it's me. I'm not trying to be anonymous though. I only do this thread so I'm not posting out personal information really. If I do an occasional foray into the rest of MN I name change for that but I soon realise why I don't do the rest of MN 😅. I only really like this thread TBH. Sometimes you can guess people from their posts, like if someone has a cat and posts about it a lot then a new user appears and they're always talking about their cat it's probably the same person

Nothing much going on here today. I'm not in a Flying mood. I haven't even got dressed yet, the ultimate laziness.

CabbageBearGoat · 02/09/2024 15:15

Thanks for the username thoughts, folks. You make a very valid point, @ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup about details - the pregnancy/newborn will probably give me away for a while yet so no need to overthink it 🤣

Welcome @Dolphinnoises !

CabbageBearGoat · 02/09/2024 16:05

Today's bonus wins:

  • 2x beds stripped, bedding washed and folded
  • 1x mattress flipped and vacuumed
  • Towels wash done and folded
  • WM drum clean cycle completed

And the first day of Garden Time. I took a large trug and collected 5 loads of the fallen/rotten apples from under one of the trees. Still probably another 5 to go. Weirdly, the other one hasn't dropped anywhere near as many, but they're different varieties so maybe that's it. Apples still on the trees not ready to be picked yet.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/09/2024 17:22

Cabbage like others have said re username changes, I keep Hazel in my name and switch it out when I want to (usually seasonally). Like you have said we can usually tell who is who based on what they are talking about or the way they write.
It really does depend on what you may post elsewhere on mn and if you need to protect yourself in RL.

Sing I hope you enjoy spending time with your new friend. Did you manage to get as much done as you were planning before leaving?

Welcome @Dolphinnoises 👋 please do join us!

ED I'm enjoying spending time outside drinking my coffee. I haven't yet today, but I will drink my next cup outside! We do have doors and windows open right now so enjoying the breeze coming in.

Ditzy sometimes a PJ day is what's needed!

So far all I've done today is sleep in late (and still didn't get much sleep) and drank my 1st cup of coffee.
I am going to make my 2nd cup, take it outside, water my plants then get the 1st load of laundry on.. the 1st of many!

OP posts:
SleepingIceDragons · 02/09/2024 17:28

I am not allowed to comment on name changes. ED will probably remember the debarckle that lead to that issue.

How is ds feeling today hazel? I am lucky that ds has decided he is grown up enough to clean up after himself in this kind of situation although does require some guidance and moral support. It was a phase i did not realise that i would be really appreciative of hitting or tbh that it was even a phase.

To day's to do list:
cook tea
work on more clearing of the kitchen
a long walk
finish the laundry started yesterday
move some things to the right room (15mins max)

ds is currently under the weather after some pre back to school clubbing exposed him to all the lurgys. he is currently communicating through text and distance by his choice to reduce everyone else's exposure. Creates a little more work for me but i really appreciate the thought and effort.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/09/2024 17:36

Dragons DS is feeling much better today, he just ate too much at dinner, then got on his VR headset a couple hours later, which didn't help.
In normal circumstances he would be capable of cleaning it up himself, however, this was so extreme, I almost didn't know where to start myself!

Searchingforsunnydays · 02/09/2024 17:48

Oh no @HazelNotHungryLC !! How is ds now ? Did you manage to get some sleep ?

@CabbageBearGoat there is usually a running theme with names , mine is always searching for...... but I haven't changed it in ages ! I like your goal of going in the garden everyday , seems therapeutic!

Welcome @Dolphinnoises !!

How's your day gone @SingToTheSky ? Has the po3 helped ?

I love a pj day @ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup !
