Fledglings Flying - May we all conquer the clutter

Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in. We start a new thread every month even though they don't fill up because the Flylady system re-starts on the 1st of the month. However you can jump in any time.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day. you have been warned! 😁
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: do/did not lose my shit
  • BRC: box/basket of random crap
  • Mount Washmore: self explanatory

There are more, but I can't think of them all. Feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although there is also an app (I haven't tried this)

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Hello again !

thank you for the new thread @EasilyDeterred

@SleepingIceDragons I’m sure the broom will turn up shortly and keep you flying forward …

Hemax1 · 01/05/2024 00:04

I’ve been making use of the better weather and trying to be outside ( and have the small ones outside too ) whilst the weather has been a little better.

currently a SAHM but have decided to open a small business ( before the DWP decide I need to take any job as youngest approaches 3 ) so have spent some time recently doing research, writing lists and starting to make decisions on how I would like the business to run. Definitely have some imposter syndrome going on but determined to make it work for my little family.

todays tadas :
⭐️ morning routine
⭐️ nursery run
⭐️ play date for littlest with friends
⭐️ lunch and tidy up
⭐️ walked for nursery pick up ( hour+ round trip ) with added dandelion click blowing fun on the way home
⭐️ prams, scooters and nursery bags tidied away
⭐️ garden playtime and tidy up ( including mentally making a garden to do list when the weather is next nice )
⭐️ tea and tidy up
⭐️ clothes put away
⭐️ shoes tidied up
⭐️ meal plan
⭐️ business prep and research

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/05/2024 05:36

Thank you ED for the shiny new thread!

dragons that still sounds like a nightmare! I was hoping you would be here saying it's all done! I'm glad that the feeding the many with allergies is going a little easier though.

Ditzy you've had productive few days. I wish the snuggles would be all day too!

Hemax starting your own business sounds stressful, but I'm sure will be less so with a plan. Good luck on your endeavours.

Tuesday's ta das:
😴 hair appt (cut & dye)
😴 worked a couple of hours
😴 bought myself 2 new pairs of shoes (hoping they help my feet feel better)
😴 threw away 2 old pairs of shoes
😴 LOLs x2
😴 remade guest bed
😴 meal prepped
😴 showered, scrubbed, shaved & applied self tanner
😴 rotated DW
😴 wiped countertops & sink

I've just got to get my clothes out for the morning. It's still so cold here 😩

EasilyDeterred · 01/05/2024 07:14

Morning all,

Today we are in Zone 1, entrance, Front Porch and dining room and our mission is to spend 15 mins in the dining room getting rid of anything that does not belong there (if you haven’t got a dining room maybe playroom, home office, anywhere like that).

Here is today’s flight Plan

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Today’s babystep is to shine your kitchen sink, this is a good habit to get into as it makes a big difference when you walk into the kitchen and find it gleaming

http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

I’m off to work this morning, then hopefully going to a pub quiz this evening with DH and DD. See you later

Thanks for the thread @EasilyDeterred

@SleepingIceDragons you ended the last thread on quite a list!

Hi everyone else. just place marking for now as need to actually get ready for the day!

Searchingforsunnydays · 01/05/2024 07:54

Thanks for last months thread @HazelNotHungryLC 💐

Thanks for this months @EasilyDeterred. 💐

I'm hoping to stay more on track this month !

Hatecleaninglovecleanhouse · 01/05/2024 11:22

So I started enthusiastically for a few days but fell off the wagon and my crappy house is worse than ever. 😞. It's going to be shite weather over the bank holiday so I'm going to blitz blitz blitz like mad to get it under control again. My house is super untidy and honestly dirty AF. I'm away for 10 days in May and can't face coming home to a shit heap.

In the meantime baby steps.
Today
hotspot - cleared a basket of random tut that lives on my kitchen windowsill. Most of which was thrown away, some papers filed, and other stuff put in their proper homes.

It feels like I'm facing painting the Forth Bridge and I'm messing about polishing one bolt though. Still, once I've blitzed I hope this thread will keep me on track.

CabbageBearGoat · 01/05/2024 11:30

Oki doke, high hopes for May. Thanks to @HazelNotHungryLC for last month's thread, and @EasilyDeterred for this month's!

So far, so good:
🎉Morning routine complete: bed aired, windows opened, room aired, windows closed two hours later, bed made beautiful
🎉Cleaned ensuite and family toilet (overdue from April!)
🎉5 minute tidy in dining room
🎉Started decluttering my email inbox archives (Repeat to self: I do not need to keep Hermes delivery emails from ten years ago)

Hoping to add some more tadas later - maybe some tidying in the lounge (which is the other half of the dining room), and maybe possibly even cleaning ensuite shower doors 🤔DW is officially in charge of all dishes as I still can't stand to be in the kitchen (thanks, pregnancy nose), and we're woefully behind - we are running out of cutlery... so I'm hoping some of those will get done soon too but I cannot judge as I'm not involved at all!

SleepingIceDragons · 01/05/2024 16:34

ta da
1 load washign through dryer
1 load washing on line (and back in again)
impressed with the weather app that said between 4 and 5pm rain possible (40% chance) as it has just started spitting.
delegated full bin out
cleaned the over wintered washing line that was all levels of grub i don't want to think about.

will empty and reload the dw later. but trying to shift a rather stubborn migrain. took the migraine meds but not shifted it. Going to try pain killers next and maybe a nap if the people could be more stubtle about how they are crashing through /stinking up the house.

ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 01/05/2024 17:20

House we've all been there, you'll get back into it soon

Good luck for the quiz ED

You've reminded me I need to declutter emails too Cabbage

Hope the migraine goes away Dragons

Exciting times Hemax, hope it gets off to a good start

I've done very little today. I'm giving up trying to find motivation now. Going to put on a Harry Potter film and curl up with a cup of tea

CabbageBearGoat · 01/05/2024 18:24

Okay, final tally for today: 713 emails deleted. Nothing else done, but I don't mind as the emails really really needed a sortout! And it's still not done...

Searchingforsunnydays · 01/05/2024 18:43

Tada
🎉 morning routine
🎉 breakfast pots
🎉 school run
🎉 work
🎉 tea prepped & cooked (hunters chicken)
🎉 dd2 to gymnastics
🎉 ds ready for football
🎉 tomorrow's clothes ironed

I still have some jobs to do but I'm going to enjoy the peace with my book and a drink for a little while before starting the evening routine and going to pick up dd2 .

Hatecleaninglovecleanhouse · 01/05/2024 18:49

At lunchtime I cleared the newly erupted molehills off the lawn so I can cut the grass at the weekend if it isn't raining (some hope!)

This evening
Emptied DW and put 2 days dirty stuff in there.

Cleared up hotspot in the hall (all stuff needing to be put away plus junk mail to chuck).

Scourgify · 02/05/2024 06:33

Thanks to Hazel for April and ED for new thread.

Second half of April became too much, and I’m digging myself out now. We’ve had a few days of sunny periods when I dash out to tidy bits of the garden.

Can’t say I’m on top of the paperwork yet, but I can see a way through it all now. I need to stop leaving everything until it’s overwhelming. I paid my car tax online for the first time and felt very modern!

Yesterday I started going through my notebooks and diaries and managed to whittle a lot down to a few pages with the rest going on the fire. It’s very satisfying to burn that stuff.

Kitchen is its usual disaster, so I’m tackling that today.

EasilyDeterred · 02/05/2024 08:00

Morning all, sounds as though you are all doing well with different things. I didn’t get much Flying done yesterday as I was at work, then on a call for 90 mins then out for the rest of the evening but I did manage to gather up enough garden waste to fill the wheely bin which is out for collection this morning.

Thursday’s daily habit is Errand Day, my errands will be buying cat food and litter and voting, we only have police commissioner elections here but it’s DD’s first time as she has turned 18 in the last year so we will go along this evening.

Babystep 2 is to get dressed first thing, then you are ready to face the day, can go out to the bins if needed. Flylady suggests dressing to lace-up shoes, but many prefer not to wear shoes in the house, I have crocs by the back door for bin trips etc.

http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-2/

Our flight plan is here

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=360

Our mission is to put out hotspots in the entrance area, junk mail, random shoes, gloves, whatever clutter is in your hall/porch

OP posts:
SleepingIceDragons · 02/05/2024 10:18

We only have police commisioner here too. Although the county website suggests we also have town councillor elections. Not seen a single broucher flyer etc for either and only just about found the 3 candiates for police commisioner. But that was way way way harder than it should have been. Ds was unimpressed that he was registered to vote, and relieved that voting is not legally compulsory in the UK unlike other countries.

having an odd kind of day. slept terribly, still migrainy, but have been up and functioning early. 3 load of washing is on, dw has been empties and has just finished running. I have no errands but a whole heap of admin and planning that must be done so just waiting for the washer to finish so can through that load on the line before heading out for a fresh environment to be productive in.

Ds is wanting to make major life changes without showing the responsibility needed, and is just generally being his usual pita about education. So my anxiety about the whole mess it rather high. I suspect he is going to have to learn the hard way because he always does, but there is no way i can provide a secruity blanket if it does. And whilst i might not, being able to would calm the anxiety.

So going to try to focus on sorting my own stuff. Medically ok to return to work finally, profession change education was completed. But now to apply for jobs with no industry experience, no references (not even personal) and having been unable to work poorly for the last 18months plus. Somehow this feels like it is going to be a long shot at the bare minimum. So yeah - admin requires trying to figure out a plan of how to make the long shot less of a long shot. <sigh>
Oh and what the heck i am feeding people for tea tongiht. I thought i had a meal plan but i put it in a safe place and people keep changing things so no idea if the original plan will even work with all the thrown in activities.

EasilyDeterred · 02/05/2024 13:00

Tada!

I’ve gone off-zone and cleaned all the fronts of the kitchen cupboards because one looked grubby then once you’ve done one the rest look grubby too. Put out some stuff for the charity shop, done a bit of shopping. Gardening time now, while it’s not raining. Just trying to decide whether to risk washing on the line.

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/05/2024 19:20

It's been a crazy couple of days. I feel like I lost my day off this week so I'm behind on everything flying wise 😩 I'm just planning to play catch up this weekend!

Hemax1 · 02/05/2024 22:30

@HazelNotHungryLC remember you are never behind with flylady - just jump
in where you are and get done what you can do.

@EasilyDeterred i did exactly the same with the kitchen cupboards the other day. Couldn’t just do one - and tbh did find some other little marks on others too.

We’ve got both pcc and regional mayor ( for the first time ) voting wise, polling station was super quiet when I went.

With the good weather continuing I’ve been outside most of the day with the kids. Beach tots this morning. And then took both on a walk through our local bluebell woods finishing off with a short visit to our local botanical gardens. Made my step count 😃

today’s tadas are minimal really - just kept on top of the areas of the house that are somewhat sorted. Kitchen is tidy and clean and sink is shined ready for tomorrow.

Have both kids all day tomorrow, but I usually use Fridays as a bit of a chill day for them before busy weekends. Hopefully that means I can crack on with everything else house wise !

HazelNotHungryLC · 02/05/2024 23:56

Hemax you are right! Thank you for that reminder 😊

Your days sounds lovely and a good plan for tomorrow.

EasilyDeterred · 03/05/2024 07:55

@Hemax1 the cupboard below the sink and the drawers below the main food prep section of counter always seem to get grubby faster than the rest, but the rest do get smudges round the handles and open sides where people push with their hands instead of using the handles. Sounds as though you have a fabulous day out. We have a bluebell wood within walking distance of the house which is lovely, must get up there agin this weekend as they will be fading soon.

@HazelNotHungryLC it’s a bank holiday weekend here so extra catching up time, do you have one?

@SleepingIceDragons things do sound hectic, glad you finally finished your re-training.

@Scourgify you prompted me to sift through some paperwork yesterday, I am always behind with it.

OP posts:
EasilyDeterred · 03/05/2024 08:04

Ok, Friday is Clean out your Car and Bag day, also date night. AFAIK I’m not taking part in date night, but I do need to vacuum my car this morning as I am giving some friends a lift later.

Here is today’s flight plan http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=360

Our mission is more dining room decluttering, I really must tackle the table, we mainly eat at the kitchen breakfast bar, living room or outside and the table has become a desk with paperwork all over it and a bit of a dumping ground as the room is a thoroughfare one (Victorian terrace middle room).

Today’s baby step is to familiarise yourself with Flylady’s Launch Pad, where all the elements come together

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
I keep falling of the wagon, staying off, struggling to get back on, but the warm bright weather has made me feel better and more motivated.
I set myself a target of cleaning one room a day, including vacuuming the cobwebs off the ceiling and walls, and so far my TaDas are:
Front room ✔️
Hallway ✔️
Utility/ dog room ✔️
Had a mishap with my WM, had a dog blanket washing when the WM stopped because the filter had blocked.
Without engaging my brain I pulled out the filter without draining the machine.
And flooded the kitchen.
Luckily I had a pile of freshly washed towels to hand >hollow laugh< to mop it all up.
Then my vacuum lost all its suction, needs a new filter but can't find the model number to work out what I need.
Then yesterday I got knocked off my feet by my idiot horses, I was OK, sore, but kept pottering about but woke up this morning with a really bad neck.
So I'm off the wagon (and feeling really disappointed because I was really getting to grips with flying) until I'm more mobile.
Some of you are achieving so much, it's very inspiring reading!
And thanks @EasilyDeterred for the new thread.
