Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in. We start a new thread every month even though they don't fill up because the Flylady system re-starts on the 1st of the month. However you can jump in any time.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day. you have been warned! 😁
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: do/did not lose my shit
  • BRC: box/basket of random crap
  • Mount Washmore: self explanatory

There are more, but I can't think of them all. Feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although there is also an app (I haven't tried this)

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Zones (these change every week through the month). https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/

Morning everyone
hope you all had a lovely weekend.
Dc4 woke up being sick in the night so my plans for today are somewhat scuppered. He also now has diarrhoea 🤢
He’s passed out on the sofa right now so have got a couple of bits done

😷wash pukey sheets
😷get clean sheets on line
😷clean main bathroom shower/bath/sink/loo
😷change towels
😷clean other bathroom sinks and loos x2
😷tidy medicine box
😷book Amazon Morrisons delivery as can’t go to supermarket
😷vacuum top floor landing and stairs and whole of middle floor

Shopping delivery should be here soon and I still need to empty the dishwasher as we (dd1)forgot to run it last night

Luddite26 · 20/05/2024 10:30

Hope it's not the awful nirovirus@TheMainCharacter I was reading yesterday it's running rife.

TheMainCharacter · 20/05/2024 12:10

@Luddite26 I'm really hoping so too, not least because dc1 and 2 have a levels and GCSEs this week so it CANNOT go through the household! 😬

Luddite26 · 20/05/2024 14:04

Oh nightmare.

EasilyDeterred · 21/05/2024 07:22

@TheMainCharacter yikes, nightmare. Sending anti-bac and hugs.

Tada!
Not much yesterday again. Went to work, had to leave a bit early to pick DS up, so cut lunch short. Did supermarket shopping, went to yoga class then took DS out for a drive for an hour, he is learning in my car. Stopped at the allotment on the way home, DS is really interested in gardening. Then had to send an email that took a good half hour to compose and by then it was pretty well bed time. There is a babystep about getting to bed early, I’m not very good at it, but OTOH I don’t have any trouble getting up so hopefully am getting enough sleep. Needless to say I didn’t get yesterday’s mission done but will have a quick go when I get dressed shortly.

Tuesday is Plan and Play Day chez Flylady. I tend to do my weekly planning (diary catch up, deletion of emails, update to do lists) on Sundays but whatever works for you.

Our Flight Plan is here
http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The mission is to declutter the top shelf of your closet. I did that last year and I don’t think I have put anything else up there since (we have a couple of baskets up there with bits we need for holidays, luggage tags, washbags etc) but I also previously had all sorts of crap, hats that never got worn, ornaments, you name it.

Have a good day everyone

OP posts:
SleepingIceDragons · 21/05/2024 10:28

Pushed the joint too far on sunday so yesterday was a full rest day, today is a half rest day because I have a meeting in another town. Ditto re tomo, rest most of the day then 2hr drive to meeting. Thursday will be a full rest day. Friday I am painting. Saturday is a sit on arse day and sunday will be a painting day. As will Monday. Frustrating as hell as i wanted the painting just done last week. But the injury plus crutches are slowing me down.

To do
wash the pots and grill pans
find paperwork for meeting
take tea out of the freezer and leave in obvious place for the people
boil and freeze the chicken stock
set up june in my bujo
run errand for mum as drive past the shop that is 45mins away on way to meeting.

Yes yes i know i know. It is rest if you use the crutches and don't put weight on it.

TheMainCharacter · 21/05/2024 12:10

@EasilyDeterred not surprised you didn’t do much flying yesterday, sounds like it was a busy day!

@SleepingIceDragons <stern look> just remember that if you overdo it too much your recovery will be slower

@HazelNotHungryLC good luck catching up on stuff today.

DS stopped throwing up late afternoon yesterday and has managed to eat a tiny amount today so fingers crossed he’s on the mend. No sign in anyone else so far 🤞

tadas so far
morning routine
school run
pop to shop for a few bits
tidy two drawers in bedroom
vacuum bedroom (there were quite a lot of bits in the drawers)
quick vacuum downstairs
hang out lol

dd1 has an exam this afternoon so I need to wrap birthday presents while she’s gone as she’ll be home all day tomorrow. Three of her presents haven’t arrived yet, so my plan of 18 presents doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Ordered ages ago too so it’s really annoying (especially as one of them is her main present so she basically only has the tiny bits like sweets to open unless they arrive by tomorrow)

HazelNotHungryLC · 21/05/2024 15:10

dragons another one here with a stern look! Just because you're not putting weight on it, doesn't mean you're resting. The more you use the rest of your body doing stuff, the more you're taking away from the healing process (that uses energy). Saying that, I would have an extremely hard time not doing things too, so yes, I understand!

ED that sounds like a busy day! Like you, I don't have much on the top shelf of my closet. I should probably dust it though.
I will need to get a frame soon though, SIL made us a diamond picture, but it's still rolled up in it's box, on the top shelf of my closet. It's an awkward size so that'll be fun!

character hopefully your DS is feeling better. It's not fun for anyone. That's good news that there's no sign of it for anyone else in the household. Whenever we have a stomach bug in the house I'm always running around like a mad woman wiping everything down with bleach (door knobs, light switches, walls etc. It's exhausting!).

Lots to do today: (in no particular order)
☕️ wash sheets
☕️ vacuum
☕️ scrub floors
☕️ bathe dogs
☕️ wash dog beds & blankets
☕️ wash towels
☕️ bleach bathrooms
☕️ wash blankets from couches
☕️ more laundry
☕️ call to make an appt for DS for starting drivers ed 😱 (they start learning at 14 1/2 here, can get their license at 15!)
☕️ paint nails
☕️ apply self tanner
☕️ plant more plants
☕️ meal prep

I'm really not sure what all I can get done today, but I'm going to try to get most of it done.
Going to sit and enjoy my 2nd cup of coffee first though 😋

HazelNotHungryLC · 22/05/2024 04:15

We just had a phone call that a family member has passed away unexpectedly, I think we're in shock! He was 82, but we just saw him and seemed healthy!

I'm back to work tomorrow for the rest of the week, but the house is now clean and meals are prepped for the week too. 🍒👋 to everyone

SleepingIceDragons · 22/05/2024 06:43

Sorry for your loss Hazel

Tbf it is a more of a get weight off the joint issue kinda rest that is needed. Rather than a don't do anything kinda rest. Which is also why the crutches were the appropriate recommendation. Sore this morning as there was a road closure that resulted in a 30 mile diversion because google maps is stupid. But it was a good training session. Hoping the meeting tonight is equally if not more useful.

my coffee tasted weird this morning. i think the milk is on the turn. Such a disappointment. Anti procrastination job: kitchen and pharmacy run (on way to meeting so will task stack)

EasilyDeterred · 22/05/2024 07:14

Morning all,

@HazelNotHungryLC I’m sorry too, it’s a shock when something like that happens whatever age I think.

@SleepingIceDragons milk on the turn is grim. My poor DD has still not really recovered her sense of smell post-Covid (two years ago) whereas mine is very sensitive and she’s always asking me to check milk before she uses it in as she just can’t tell any more except by tasting which as you say is hugely disappointing.

Another busy day yesterday. Work, then home, had a chat with DH who I hardly seem to see at the moment. Then dinner and helping DS update his CV, took him out for a drive, it’s time consuming but we have some good chats and we both like just driving around aimlessly. Got back and found DD was restless (her A levels start this week) and wanted to go out too, we ended up in Sainsburys buying clothes (25% off this week everyone). Home again, made my packed lunch and did half an hour of much needed laundry sorting and ironing. Then it was midnight Blush. But pleased with having tackled the laundry.

Also managed to finish finding homes for all DS’s uni stuff. Last year the house was in chaos with renovations when he came back and it ended up scattered all over the house and sitting in carrier bags in corners etc. This year it is all bagged and boxed up and stashed in either the garden shed or behind the sofa so hopefully we will be able to fint it all in September.

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day, try and do something you have been putting off.

Here is today’s Flightplan

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The mission for today is to chuck out old make-up that you aren’t using.

OP posts:
ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup · 22/05/2024 13:07

Sorry for your loss Hazel. RIP to the old man

I've been taking advantage of the Sainsbury's offer too ED

Fingers crossed for swift recovery of your strained joint Dragons

Hope the rest of you have all avoided the D&V bug Character

No news here really. Keeping up with basics, finding I'm consistent with clearing car and bag day now. Doing a few minor home improvements too. As well as supporting a friend going through a hard time. Finding keeping up with the decluttering habits difficult though.

EasilyDeterred · 23/05/2024 07:09

Morning all,
Up early as I need to take DD to college for an A level exam (she can go by train but they aren’t reliable and college is near my work, but we are leaving earlier than usual just in case, the journey is usually fine but it;s one of those places where one broken down car can send the whole area into gridlock in no time).

Just pegged out two large loads of laundry so it had better stay dry 🤞.

Yesterday I had to go somewhere straight from work and got home about 8, managed a top up shop, the two loads of laundry, made packed lunch, took DS for a drive for an hour and did a bit of paperwork then it was time for bed. This week is turning out to be a busy one.

Today’s flight plan is here
http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The mission for today is to clear your bedside tables, I must admit I only do mine, DH’s is smaller and generally full of chargers, DAB radio, bluetooth speaker which I don’t want to touch. Mine has a lamo, chargers and all the usual clutter, books, handcream, nail files etc, I will do that tonight. The rest of them are going out tonight so after my exercise class I will have the house to myself for a couple of hours, bliss.

OP posts:
TheMainCharacter · 23/05/2024 14:19

Oh what a shock @HazelNotHungryLC , sorry for your loss.

Nobody else has caught the d&v so far so that’s lucky. Ds managed to eat a bit yesterday and is much better in himself but still has the d part.

Today (totally gone off track)
🎂morning routine
🎂decorated birthday cake and some fairy cakes
🎂tidy up birthday presents
🎂vacuum through
🎂go in dd1 room to put presents in there, recoil in horror, and end up spending an hour folding clothes into a pile, putting papers on desk, putting make up/hair stuff/toiletries etc into basket, putting rubbish into bin. Then another 30+ minutes pulling all the crap out from under the bed, sorting that, vacuuming. It’s still nowhere done but at least it’s an organised mess now.
🎂hang out lol
🎂wrap two presents that were late arrivals
🎂order dinner for later
🎂activate new credit card
🎂file some paperwork

next up
get swimming bag ready
pick up dd2
swimming lesson

and have a drink, have barely drunk anything today!

HazelNotHungryLC · 23/05/2024 23:00

Thank you all for your thoughts. I'm still not sure it's sunk in fully yet. The funeral is next week, so I'm sure it will hit then.

ED I love having the house to myself! Don't get me wrong, I love my family, but I love the quiet time I get.
I did my bedside tables on Tuesday so I'm ahead of the game! 😇

dragons I see, re recovery. I'm glad your medical team understands you and your needs!
Gone off milk is so nasty! DH would always get me to smell the milk before he used it, so now it's just habit. DD once asked me how to tell if it was bad, I told her there's just no doubting it, you can tell!

Ditzy being there for friends is so important! I really hope you realise how much that means to her. I also hope that she is there for you when you need her

character that was nice of you to clear up DD1s room. Is her birthday tomorrow? Sorry I know you mentioned it up thread, but didn't check it.

EasilyDeterred · 24/05/2024 08:07

I looked at the bedside tables but that’s as far as it got, the busy week continues (I have three jobs and all are busy at the moment). Hoping for a bit of respite next week. But the allotment is crying out for attention, I have a greenhouse full of small plants that need to be planted out now.

Anyway, today is Friday, which means it’s nearly another bank holiday weekend for those of us in England (rest of UK?). So that’s an extra day off work next week and DD off college for half term. I have just hung out washing that I did last night. I will do my bag and car later, promise.

Here is the Flight plan for today, our mission is to clean the windows in the bathroom and master bedroom, good idea, it does brighten things up. We have a window cleaner who did the outsides last week so just the insides here and neither are big windows.

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Next week is the last week of May, so we will be moving into the living room. I don’t think I’ve set foot in mine this week apart from to put DS’s uni stuff away, we mostly sit out in the garden after work and in the evenings at this time of year unless it’s raining.

OP posts:
TheMainCharacter · 24/05/2024 08:43

Need a list

Rest of morning routine (have only done dw and one s&s so far)
tidy hall
put on lol
put away swim stuff
tidy dd2 room a bit
tidy ds2 room a bit
dishes (didn’t get done last night as we ate out for dd1 birthday)
Go to cellar and start getting camping stuff together for trip next week, charge lanterns/check batteries etc
Dust and put away paperwork in spare room ready for friends staying (may have to cancel if ds2 is still ill though)
kitchen floor

CabbageBearGoat · 24/05/2024 09:52

This week's wins:

  • Morning routine done each day
  • Evening routine a bit shakier but in progress
  • Vacuumed lounge
  • Vacuumed conservatory
  • Cleared coffee table middle and top
  • Wiped down coffee table middle and top
  • Reduced HG supplies on bedside table (symptoms lifting! Slightly!)
  • Researched and requested quotes from window cleaners! (Our current one can't reach the velux with the poles so not ideal)

Sorry for your loss, Hazel. These things can really shake us.

SleepingIceDragons · 24/05/2024 11:30

I can always taste the fact it is heading for the turn before it has the smell. Just makes the coffee taste off.

Ds has been ill since the weekend. He had to go into college yesterday. And today it is looking like he shared the ill. Joint has had three tough days. I should be painting today. But i think i might just rest. Somewhere in my stupid brain i thought it would be good to start yet another blanket project and hope to get it finished before the end of the month... (not realistic at all) So that will be something to hold my attention so i am still

Sodding internet went down yesterday teatime and is barely back so expecting it to go out again. Caused alsorts of drama when it went out.

HazelNotHungryLC · 26/05/2024 06:42

We have a long weekend here too (in the US).
We spent today at ILs house putting in vinyl flooring. It looks so good, although they were short 2 boxes. DH does most of it. He's a perfectionist and does a very detailed job. We are aching tonight though.

Tomorrow we're going out for a drive, some of us will go fishing, those of us who do not like fishing will either just sit any relax or take the dogs out for a walk as they're all coming with us. I do not like to fish 😆

dragons I'm hoping you'll avoid the sickness, but it sounds like it's got you already! FIL has a cold, I'm hoping we all avoid it!

EasilyDeterred · 27/05/2024 15:21

Ooops, sorry for going AWOL, I get all out of routine at weekends. I have spent most of the weekend outdoors, either at the allotment or in the garden. Also out and about giving the DCs lifts etc. Not a huge amount of Flying done. I will get back to it tomorrow.

We are meant to be in The Living Room this week, with today’s mission being to get those dust bunnies that gather in corners, cobwebs etc.

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

OP posts:
EasilyDeterred · 28/05/2024 07:59

And here we are again, it’s pouring with rain here and my washing which I left out yesterday evening because it was nearly dry is soaked. Never mind. I’m off to work shortly.

Today’s mission is to spend 15 mins getting rid of anything that doesn’t belongin the front room (I need my DCs to do this, most of it is theirs). Tuesday is also plan and play day. Have a good day everyone.

Yesterday I sorted out meals, went grocery shopping and put everything away.
I made a no bake lavender cheesecake that we needed to try before the wedding reception. It was a very good cheesecake, but you couldn't taste lavender at all, so I'm going to need to tweak it and try it again 😩
I do have a plan for it though. I have edible lavender buds I can add to it. I will also change up the food colouring. Instead of using the pre-made purple, I'm going to make my own as it was too bright.

Everyone left earlier than normal last night as FIL had to work today, super early. DH cooked ribs, I made an egg salad as well as a regular salad to go with it. It turned out perfect!
I got the kitchen all cleaned up, rotated DW twice, and got my handwash dishes washed, dried and put away.

We were able to eat outside too! After everything was cleared away I sat on the swing with my lemon cucumber water until I got a little chilly. I was a very lovely day!

Today I'm taking DS to the DMV to start the process for his learners permit so he can learn to drive 😱 I then need to get him on the list for the class (if the office is even open now that school is out). I do have to work today to cover lunches as we are still down a person and another is now on holiday. Working today will help make up my time on Thursday (the funeral).

I also need to get DS some new clothes, as well as a dress for me. The wedding reception is coming up fast!
Sorry for rambling! I should probably get moving!

EasilyDeterred · 28/05/2024 22:59

Tada!

Watered seedlings
Work
Home
Took wet laundry off line, spun and tumble dried
Took DS out driving for an hour
Went to gym
Ate dinner (cooked by DD)
Sorted laundry
De-pooped litter trays
Helped DS with a job application
Crochet
