Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in. We start a new thread every month even though they don't fill up because the Flylady system re-starts on the 1st of the month. However you can jump in any time.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day. you have been warned! 😁
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: do/did not lose my shit
  • BRC: box/basket of random crap
  • Mount Washmore: self explanatory

There are more, but I can't think of them all. Feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although there is also an app (I haven't tried this)

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Ta das:
🧚‍♀️ took DS to his appt for drivers ed, got him signed up for classes
🧚‍♀️ took DS clothes shopping and bought myself an outfit for the funeral
🧚‍♀️ LOLs x2 (sheets & towels)
🧚‍♀️ stained planters that will go in the front of the house
🧚‍♀️ went shopping with DH to find him a shirt for the funeral
🧚‍♀️ went out to eat, since we were already out
🧚‍♀️ ironed new shirts as they were both really creased
🧚‍♀️ put clean clothes away
🧚‍♀️ remade the bed

I didn't get as much done as usual for a Tuesday, but I didn't have to go into work after all. One of the girls has been released from the doctor to come back to work after surgery. It's going to be a tough journey for her, she ended up positive for cancer and will start treatment soon. We're hoping her outcome is better than what Dr Google says.
Back to work tomorrow after a long weekend. I don't want to go back yet!! <stomps feet>

That sounds like a productive day @HazelNotHungryLC . I hope the funeral brings comfort and that your colleague’s treatment works well for her. A friend of mine has just come through a very tough year with cancer, we thought we were losing her a few times but she’s still here and doing well.

Work again for me today. It is all damp outside but at least it’s stopped raining, I have got the back door open and am listening to the birds chirp. HAve any of you got the Merlln app which identifies birds from their song? It is quite addictive.

I’m going out tonight, so might not be back later, we are going to a pub quiz, we used to go every week but have had a month or so off for DD’s A levels, as it’s half term she’s having a bit of a break. She spent the day with a friend yesterday which was nice but is back to her studies today. DS has found what sounds like the perfect job to apply for for the summer so he’s doing that.

Wednesday (I’m all confused thie week with the bank holiday). So it is anti-procrastination day, I REALLY must do some more of my professional membership re-validation, I keep putting it off. Will do half an hour when I get to work (it’s for their benefit after all).

Also, we are still in the living room, doing detailed vacuuming, under sofas etc if you can move them, right up to edges. This is hard in our house, we have a huge recliner sofa which I can’t easily move by myself so I get DH to drag it out once in a while. If that isn’t possible I suggest a bit more decluttering, I noticed our shelves in there seem to have acquired various items of random crap. Random crap is the bane of my life, it just seems to crop up everywhere.

I know where all my random crap comes from ED, I keep buying it! Except it doesn't seem like random crap at the time. It seems like special, amazing, useful, Definitely Not Crap. Then one day I turn around and realise the place is a shit tip filled with random crap again 🤦. When will I ever learn!🤷. Good luck for the quiz night

Sorry for you loss Hazel and fingers crossed 🤞 for your colleague

Flying along nicely here with an early start. Ta-da's:

😇 Morning routine
😇 Bought some new furniture a few days ago, so will be slotting that in after figuring where it would look best and be most use
😇 Cleaned the car properly inside and out
😇 Laundry on the line drying
😇 Nail art done, flower stickers on a sky blue polish, tried to take a pic but camera didn't want to focus on it
😇 Cleaned kitchen cupboards
😇 Wiped aphid spit nests off roses, fiddly job that
😇 Found a use for two pretty boxes that I didn't want to throw out, keeping spare parts for washing machine and vacuum cleaner tidy

Erm, you could have a point there @ItsieDitzyBitsOfOnionInTheSoup , I can't resist a visit to Home Bargains or wherever, I love shopping Blush.

Morning all, we are nearly at the end of the month, it has been pretty quiet on here lately, would anyone like to take over posting links in June?

Today is our final day in the living room and we are going sofa diving, it is also errand day, I did tackle my anti-procrastination task yesterday, need to finish it today but don’t think I need to do any errands.

There is no such thing as too many blankets right? Asking for a friend. I don't have a huge amount of clutter, i have a huge amount of projects - started, waiting to be started, waiting to be finished. Biggest problem here is the house and rennovation stuffs. Had a social thing in the city but my joint is real mad at me and it took a couple of hours with my hands in the dirt to start the process of recharging my social battery so i could even consider functioning as a human in any meaningful manner.

We finally pulled the 40 yr plys rhubarb crowns that were no longer producing and had a fungal/bacterial thingy. So i promised people i would make a rhubarb crumble today. Need to do that in a mo.

HazelNotHungryLC · 31/05/2024 03:56

dragons there is absolutely no such thing as too many blankets!
ED of no one else can, I will take over. I just can't guarantee I'll be on every day as there's a wedding in the family that I'll be busy with.

EasilyDeterred · 31/05/2024 08:20

Enjoy the rhubarb crumble @SleepingIceDragons , 40 years is a good innings. I get a glut of it too, I made a rhubarb and custard traybake a couple of weeks ago that was very nice.

@HazelNotHungryLC - would you mind? I don’t mind standing in when you are busy but I don’t really want to commit to the whole month again as we have quite a bit happening too.

So today, we are in the Living Room for the final time this month and the mission is a nice one, to put something beautiful in there, such as a bunch of flowers. There is a flower farm near here, I might take a turn that way later, they have gorgeous bunches at very reasonable prices.

It’s also clean out your car and bag day, I need to go to the tip so I will probably wait till after that for the car, it badly needs vacuuming.

IT’s also a good day to look back at the month, did I achieve what I needed to, is the house in a better state than when I started, have I improved my routines? I do feel that in the earlier days of this thread we used to go into more depth talking about the routines, babysteps that build up etc, but it’s hard work keeping all that going all month to be honest. It’s always worth a good nose about on the Flylady website or app, or if you can find a copy, Flylady’s book, Sink Reflections.

I feel I have kept on top of things during what turned out to be a very hectic month, but possibly am not much further on than I was with jobs I have been putting off. Posting here does help me to keep up with the mission-type tasks though.

ED I think I can run the thread. I'll try to get the new thread up & running today. After work we will be getting the camper ready for camping, but we're only going for one night and close by. It is the 1st camping trip of the year though, so we'll need to find our groove again!

I may have to take you up on helping out a bit, but I'll let you know!
I do feel like I wasn't as on top of the house this month, but it didn't help that we had a bombshell dropped on us less than 2 weeks ago, to be complete with the funeral yesterday.

I still have plants that need to be planted in the ground, a rose bush that needs to be moved and brick that needs finishing around the flowerbeds.
We lost 2 strawberry plants and 1 vine because they haven't been planted yet 😢

Now we will be gone this weekend so not sure when this is all going to get done! Ugh, I didn't think this through very well.
