Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in. We start a new thread every month even though they don't fill up because the Flylady system re-starts on the 1st of the month. However you can jump in any time.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day. you have been warned! 😁
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: do/did not lose my shit
  • BRC: box/basket of random crap
  • Mount Washmore: self explanatory

There are more, but I can't think of them all. Feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although there is also an app (I haven't tried this)

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Zones (these change every week through the month). https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/

Now sat with a g&t trying to switch my brain off so I can sleep 😴 I really struggle to settle until I've had some downtime.

Sounds like a productive day so far @HazelNotHungryLC ! Bless your MIL , did you get her a new plant pot ? How's your breathing now ?

@TheMainCharacter 🥂 to you too ! Champagne cream tea sounds lovely !! Your tada lists are always impressive!

Welcome @Luddite26 ! This thread is welcoming and supportive 💐

I had never heard of woolly hugs charity @EasilyDeterred !! This is brilliant and well done to you for making the effort to be involved! I'm going to look further into this !

EasilyDeterred · 14/05/2024 23:40

@Searchingforsunnydays Woolly Hugs originated here on MN and still makes special blankets for bereaved MNers and their families, but it has expanded to crafting for many, many more good causes over the years and has an active FB group. The project I am working on at the moment is blankets for children from the Chernobyl area of Belarus/Ukraine, the project has been going for years but is extra important at the moment.

@TheMainCharacter I LOVE gardening and have an allotment, I am a weirdo that likes weeding. I have a greenhouse full of seedlings waiting to be planted out at the moment, we sometimes get late frosts here so I am cautious (and actually I dislike planting out and keep putting it off). Tonight I have made rhubarb cake with my first harvest of the year.

@Luddite26 welcome to the thread, I also do a lot better if I have some company on this thread do ask if there’s anything you don’t understand.

@Hatecleaninglovecleanhouse hope the breathing has improved now.

Tada!

🍎watered seedlings
🍏work
🍎popped to supermarket at lunchtime mainly to get petrol as it is a lot cheaper there than in my home town
🍏hour at the allotment
🍎dinner
🍏half an hour of crochet
🍎paperwork
🍏baked cake
🍎put washing on to go out in the morning

Morning ☕️

🎉 showered, dressed , hair & makeup
🎉 my bed made
🎉 lunches
🎉 breakfasts

Currently having breakfast and a coffee. Dd1 has her driving test today , it's her 2nd one so I'm really hoping it's good news 🤞 she's brilliant driving , she's been driving us around in her car , just got to get over the test nerves. She struggles with panic attacks during exam times so test / exam pressures are really difficult - I'm hoping she can control those nerves enough to get through it !

CherryogDog · 15/05/2024 09:23

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
I'm absolutely useless at keeping up with the thread, and just as useless at keeping my house clean 😀
I didn't get my bedroom finished, but I did make a dent in the clothes mountain.
Another charity bag started, sometimes I feel like taking all my clothes to the charity shop and starting again and then I remember I'm poor and wouldn't be able to replace them 🙃
Good luck to your daughter @Searchingforsunnydays

HazelNotHungryLC · 15/05/2024 19:49

Good luck to your DD sunny 🤞

Cherry doing a little bit here and there can make a bigger difference than you realise! It's also better than doing absolutely nothing 😊

I was breathing so much better by the afternoon. It's the darn allergies, it seems everyone is suffering at the moment.

Yesterday I ended up staying mostly outside planting, sweeping and cleaning up. I did nothing else in the house, and it shows! <sigh>

I really do need to bleach both bathrooms, so I'm aiming to get that done tonight (if I'm not drawn to the outside that is!)

HazelNotHungryLC · 15/05/2024 19:51

sunny I forgot to answer your question, yes, I got MIL 3 plant pots, she loves them!

SleepingIceDragons · 15/05/2024 20:51

Evening.

Today can be summed up by rest helps faster recovery.

errand run
play hunt the important piece of paper, filed some stuff, bemoaned the lack of ability to get to stuff to that can appropriately file and lack of organisation situation atm

deep clean dehydrator
put the carrots on to run
chop cooked chicken and get into the freezer
DW unloaded, reloaded and run

Forgive i have been struggling to sleep this week and am so tired i got to the point of not knowing my own name 2 days ago so personals are not possible right now. Sleep is not nearby either but going to listen to an audio book and hope to have to rewide to the bit i last remember tomo.

EasilyDeterred · 16/05/2024 08:49

Morning!

No list from yesterday here, I was out from 8am to 10.30pm (brought DS home from uni for the summer after work, so the entire contents of his uni room is now in our living room).

Anyway, Thursday today, the flightplan as usual is here
http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The mission is to toss old cosmetics from the bathroom and old toys from DCs bedrooms. Thursday is also Errand Day.

OP posts:
TheMainCharacter · 16/05/2024 12:12

Hi everyone,
really thought I had posted yesterday but can’t see it so either I imagined it or I typed it out and never actually posted.

@HazelNotHungryLC hooe your chest is better today

@SleepingIceDragons hope you get some rest if not sleep. Sleep deprivation is awful.

@Searchingforsunnydays how did dd get on?

Tada’s so far
⭐️morning routine
⭐️school run
⭐️get swim stuff together
⭐️3 x 5 (ok more like 7 or 8) minute room rescues; living room, dd2 room, ds2 room. I’m out on Weds evenings so dp is in charge. When I went in to say goodnight to them their rooms were a state and I was 😡 but this morning when I tidied I found they were making cards and presents for dd1 birthday next week so it was quite cute really (just not sure why it had to be left all over the floor in both rooms)
⭐️hang out lol
⭐️yoga class

todo
prep dinner for after swimming
clean glass door in hall as didn’t get round to that yesterday
dust living rooms

EasilyDeterred · 17/05/2024 07:33

Morning all, I went out straight from work again last night so it was another minimal Flying day, but the weekend is fairly clear for a catch up. @TheMainCharacter sounds as though you had a productive day, that is sweet about the card-making.

Friday is meant to be the day we clear out our car and bag, my car isn’t too bad, there are a couple of water bottles in the passenger footwell that need retrieving and the bag is OK too, I use one of the much-hyped Uniqlo bags which doesn’t have a huge amoutn of space to accumulate clutter.

It it also date night, but it’s more likely to be “flop in front of the TV” night here.

Anyway, our final Flight Plan of the week is here
http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

with our missions being to scrub round the bathroom taps and clean under the DCs beds.

SleepingIceDragons · 17/05/2024 10:32

Welp my flying has been hindered by crutches. But hey ho still got a lot that has to be done. Just going to have to reset my expectations and take it slowly

HazelNotHungryLC · 17/05/2024 19:33

Oh no dragons crutches?? What did you do?!

No date night here either. Unless you count DS creating and having us all do a workout together 😂

character that is adorable that they've made cards and presents for DD! Too bad they left a mess though.
My chest has been doing great! Just that one morning of it being tight, thankfully.

We're having a potluck at work on Monday, so I decided to make scones and clotted cream. I currently have the cream in the oven, DS should be watching it for me while I'm at work. It's my 1st attempt at it, so I'm curious to try it!

Every time I turn around my weekend gets fuller and fuller, but I really need to clean the house this weekend!

SleepingIceDragons · 17/05/2024 19:41

The joint that I was babying wasn't healing so it is a compromise until we find the cause of the problem. Long timers know i do not do rest well. (understatement) I have crutches here cos other reasons, so inorder to get best compliance on the rest aspect I get told to use crutches rather than to be told to sit on my ass. it is like my medical team know me or something 😂😂

EasilyDeterred · 17/05/2024 20:44

@HazelNotHungryLC my weekend seems to be filling up fast too, having said this morning that it was looking fairly quiet we have all come home this evening and said “I want to do xyz” and voila the weekend is full.

@SleepingIceDragons crutches sounds like a good compromise and yes, we do know what you’re like Wink

Tada!
🍎Cleaned out litter trays
🍏Washed cat bowls and the mat they sit on
🍎Cleaned dishwasher filter, door seals and runners 🤮
🍏Scrubbed bath - so much easier since we got a water softener
🍎Scrubbed round taps as per mission
🍏Swept and mopped kitchen floor
🍎Vacuumed downstairs and stair carpet
🍏Four loads of washing line dried
🍎Drove DCs to work and college and back
🍏Top up shop
🍎Two meetings (Teams)
🍏An hour at the allotment
🍎Half an hour on the phone (via earbuds at the allotment) acting as IT Help for dparents
🍏Ordered Dominos for dinner

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 18/05/2024 02:56

That's a busy day ED I should still be able to fit some cleaning in, I just have to get on with it it's not happening tonight!

Ah, the crutches/rest compromise makes sense, especially for you dragons 😂 I'm glad you didn't actually break something else, although not good that they can't figure out what it is.

We did a workout after work today. DS planned it for us. I got the clotted cream out of the oven when I got home, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out when cooled.
I got my flowers watered today, but still haven't taken any pictures. We are not going to work on the garden tonight as it's so windy outside. I'll probably take pictures once all of them are planted.
DS did a quick (& not complete) home bleugh today, so cleaning this weekend has got to happen!
I'm so glad it's Friday night and the start of my weekend!

EasilyDeterred · 18/05/2024 11:09

Part of our plans for the weekend is moving all the patio furniture onto the lawn, removing weeds from in between the patio slabs and pressure washing it, it looks very down at heel at the moment. Also I have masses of seedlings that need to be planted out at the allotment.

Fledglings Flying - May we all conquer the clutter
OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 18/05/2024 15:02

Oooh, ED are those sunflowers?! I got a plant of small sunflowers that I still need to down, they didn't have the giant ones. One year I'll have some giant sunflowers!

The plan for today is to rip up old carpeting at my ILs house. DS will be helping us, DH has to work. We can also work on it tomorrow, if needed, but only for part of the day.
I plan on getting home early enough to be able to clean the house as well and taking a shower, before heading back over there for dinner (along with DH, DS & BIL).
Currently I'm snuggled up on the couch with Coco, under a blanket, enjoying my coffee.

SleepingIceDragons · 18/05/2024 15:12

I am procrastinating. I have to jar up the onions for fermentation, finish cutting the other veg for the mixed veg ferment, laundry and other stuff. I am in stuck mode atm <sigh> i should make the effort and move so that i can go from procrastinating to resting.

EasilyDeterred · 18/05/2024 20:52

@HazelNotHungryLC yes, they are giant sunflowers, now planted out, pumpkins also out today. I have got the small ones with multiple heads too which I use for cutting. I have put a huge amount of effort this year into reclaiming my allotment from grass which has gradually encroached from the paths so I have more space to fill but I may have too many seedlings. I decluttered and reorganised my potting shed a few months ago too so it works really well and there is more space and I keep sowing things because it's so easy now. I have got two types each of tomato and cucumber, French beans, cucamelons, leeks, sweetcorn, various herbs, sweet peas, cosmos, all doing well.

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 19/05/2024 15:02

You have been busy planting and sowing, ED I love the giant sunflowers 🌻

I had a busy day yesterday and still didn't get any cleaning done at home 🙄
I helped rip up old nasty carpet and underlay at my ILs house. We hammered down nails, pulled out staples etc and painted the majority of the room with a primer sealer. It will help contain the smells in that room.
So much mould under that underlay, it stunk so bad! Especially where the mould was from cat pee 🤢
I got 1 lol washed as well, when I was home taking a shower.
They took us out to dinner to say thank you!

We are heading back there today to finish it up and for DS to mow the grass for them.
I still need to go grocery shopping, bake scones, wash more laundry. I do not see time today to clean the house like I want to, so it'll probably have to wait until Tuesday now 😩
I also still need to plant a bunch of flowers in the ground. The wind keeps blowing them over 😒

I best get figuring out meals for the week so I can get my grocery list ready!

HazelNotHungryLC · 19/05/2024 17:19

I got a couple of plants into the ground this morning! We are now on our way to ILs house. I may actually get more done today than I thought, but we'll see how today goes.
I got my grocery list done (for the most part). Meals are sorted for the week though, which helps
Hopefully I'll be back on soon with more ta das!
🍒👋 to everyone

HazelNotHungryLC · 20/05/2024 06:03

Ta das: (Sunday)
🧚‍♀️ LOLs x3
🧚‍♀️ put away clean clothes
🧚‍♀️ finished prepping the floor at ILs
🧚‍♀️ meal planned
🧚‍♀️ groceries bought
🧚‍♀️ baked 3 different types of scones (low carb, plain & with raisins)
🧚‍♀️got everything ready to take to work in the morning
🧚‍♀️ bleached both bathrooms (finally!)
🧚‍♀️ rotated DW
🧚‍♀️ handwashed dishes x3
🧚‍♀️ wiped countertops

We ended up eating out for dinner as I didn't have any energy and motivation to cook!

Must go.. I keep dozing off! 😴

EasilyDeterred · 20/05/2024 07:49

Morning, today we move into The Master Bedroom and our mission is to declutter out dresser. I think the floor is a higher priority for ours at the moment, the clean laundry situation is a bit out of hand.

Spent all day yesterday outdoors (in the shade, I like the warmth but can't bear the feel of sun on my skin for more than about 5 minutes), it was lovely. Voluntary work followed by lounging followed by gardening followed by laptop work followed by a bbq then an hour at the allotment 8-9.
