Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in. We start a new thread every month even though they don't fill up because the Flylady system re-starts on the 1st of the month. However you can jump in any time.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day. you have been warned! 😁
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!
Daily missions: each day of the week has a different mission.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: do/did not lose my shit
  • BRC: box/basket of random crap
  • Mount Washmore: self explanatory

There are more, but I can't think of them all. Feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although there is also an app (I haven't tried this)

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you.

Zones (these change every week through the month). https://www.flylady.net/d/zones/

Didn't I say I was going to keep up with the thread this month 🙈 ooopppss!

Not much flying being done , basics are mostly being done but some bits of the home are suffering . I can't seem to keep up the momentum of it all when it's term time , the time management and prioritising what needs to be completed first is stressful! The tick chart worked well last month but then I didn't re-write it out for this month !

I'm going to aim to be on here with some tadas today . Dd2 wants a party at home for her birthday in a couple of weeks , the thought of having anyone in the home terrifies me , however , I want the kids to be able to bring their friends home and enjoy themselves .

I hope everyone has had good weather where you are and you are able to enjoy the sunshine ☀️🕶️

HazelNotHungryLC · 12/05/2024 15:35

dragons & ED I used to live watching Eurovision growing up. I haven't seen it in many, many years. It always seemed like they picked the worst singer possible to represent the countries (from what I remember), so we would make fun of them! I'm hoping it's better now! This was over 20 years ago!

sunny basics help keep the house running, so if that's all you're able to manage, then you're doing well! Could you still create that tick-list if it really helped you last month? Having a plan of having people over always motivates me to get the house presentable!

It's Mother's Day here in the US today. The sun is shining, everyone else is asleep still. Coco doesn't seem to mind that I'm supposed to sleep in today, so she woke me up so I could feed her, then my alarm went off!

We went out for dinner last night with the ILs. We are all going plant/ flower shopping today. I'm so excited!
I've had my 1st cup of coffee, sitting on the swing on the patio, in the sunshine, listening to the birds chirping (probably yelling at me because my feeder is currently empty!). I can smell the neighbours lilac bush, reminding me to get one today as mine didn't make it after being transplanted to a pot after the fire.

I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday!

SleepingIceDragons · 12/05/2024 15:48

@HazelNotHungryLC Nah worst singer, political voting. Honestly from what i caught the last few years the quality has not improved and if anything it has got worse. Politics was very visible in what bit of the voting i caught. So you are not missing anything.

Bumped a curb avoiding a car cutting me up last night, so have to get a new tyre tomo as the tyre wall is damaged. It is worse in daylight. <sigh>

Currently working on my control journal because the kitchen is depressing.
But really need to hustle butt on the kitchen and return it to functional kitchen state.
An early night is very much in order tonight.

EasilyDeterred · 12/05/2024 17:45

Quite a lot of countries still do the completely bonkers Eurovision acts, quite a few still just have a solo artist singing a fairly bland song, this years there were a few trying to push boundaries a bit (in a sexual rather than bonkers style). The UK act was sleazy IMO and I don't think it was all down to political voting but there is still plenty of that. It was overshadowed by the protests about Israel/Palestine this year too.

I’m going to post the Monday links now so I don’t forget in the morning.

We are moving into Zone 3, which is the bathroom and one other room (going to be the landing for me, it is a PIT).

Here is the Flightplan which will update overnight. It has links for yesterday’s and tomorrow’s which is helpful

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

The bathroom mission is to tody the flat surfaces. The other mission is to put away summer clothes for your DCs - I need to do this for myself.

Monday is also Home Blessing Day if you choose, run the vac round, empty bins, dust, change the beds etc.

Also our habit for the month is movement. I have slacked a bit on that front in the last week but am going to yoga tomorrow night if I can get a space (I’m on the cancellation list).

Ok, I'm back again. I'm completely behind on chat so I'm going to channel flylady vibes and just pick up after today as if I'm not "behind" and hopefully you will all forgive me! Pregnancy sickness has been kicking my butt this week, but now I'm home from a short stay in hospital with some different tablets and I am hoping (praying!) it'll be truly gone soon.

Weekend wins:
🎉 Cleared the top of the kallax in lounge
🎉 Wiped down kallax and TV unit
🎉 Dusted TV and accompanying media boxes
🎉 Emptied kitchen bins
🎉 Washed out kitchen recycling bin and kitchen waste bin
🎉 Deep cleaned coffee machine
🎉 Polished toaster (!)
🌱 Swept pavement out front of leaves, old grass clippings (?!)
🌱 Swept driveway of crusty cherry blossom petals

DW:
🥳 Weeded half of driveway (other half hidden by car, now moved)
🥳 Weeded side path
🥳 Weeded back patio
🥳 Finished painting the back fence
🥳 All the washing up ever
🥳 Laundry, dried on the line and folded
🥳 Watered in new grass seed

Edited to add a couple of things I forgot I'd done! Another bonus to using the app!

SleepingIceDragons · 13/05/2024 06:45

I am never going to get used to these mornings.

bed is made, clothes are on, ds is pretending to be awake, yoghurt that accidentally got launched at the floor because i am tired has been eaten (tub split so it needed to happen), first coffee is drunk and the windows are open.

As is what happens in this house, the plans have been changed and i am not painting today. Will be mostly running boxes from the lounge to the office. So will be grabbing some pain killers before i start that as my joints are already super sore.

to do
car to get new tyre
find the boxes to be returned to where they live
return boxes to where they live
laundry
decide it need to book on course later this week.

Hope you all have good weeks,
@CabbageBearGoat morning sickness is the worst, having done hospital stays due to it you have my sympathy. hope it fucks off and you can have some restbite.

Searchingforsunnydays · 13/05/2024 07:51

Tada
🎉 up, showered , hair washed , hair dried , mascara on , dressed
🎉 lunches made
🎉 ironed todays uniforms
🎉 breakfasts & coffee

I'll be starting the morning jobs once I've finished my coffee , it'll take about 20-30 mins I think because I haven't completed them thoroughly for a little while .
Yesterday wasn't great , I was in bed most of the day , I did manage to get out in the garden in the evening to join in with the family bbq, did some cross stitch and spent some time with ds who has been out most of the weekend making the most of no football matches ! We watched dead boy detectives on Netflix, which is watchable if anyone else has teens and struggles for appropriate programmes to watch in the evening .

Thanks @Hazel I will write them out again and see if it gets the motivation going again ! Happy Mother's Day for yesterday!!

I hope today goes well @SleepingIceDragons , look after yourself and take plenty of breaks if you can to give your joints a rest ❤️

A busy weekend @CabbageBearGoat !! I really hope the sickness eases for you soon ❤️

CherryogDog · 13/05/2024 09:07

Morning 🌄 everyone 👋
Nothing much in the way of TaDas here, but I'm about to start on my huge ToDo, which is tidying my bedroom.
It seems that I completely forgot to lose the weight that has been lurking under my winter clothes and I've been pulling clothes out of my cupboards and grumpily chucking them on the floor when I can't get them on.
I've got to wait in for a parcel so I'm going to tidy it up today.
I don't often wear dresses, but I washed the few I've got recently, put them away and I can't actually remember where so hopefully I'll find them today 😁
I'm not very good at chatting with you all but I'm so impressed with what you're all achieving and I have a sneaky suspicion that one of you is actually FlyLady herself!
Happy Flying today everyone!

CabbageBearGoat · 13/05/2024 09:49

Thank you for the well-wishes @SleepingIceDragons and @Searchingforsunnydays! Definitely haven't quite found that "pregnancy glow" yet 🤣

I'm going very slightly off-piste with flylady zones because I'm mostly sticking to rooms/things I can do while sitting down. Still knackered. So the lounge has been getting a lot of attention. And I've mostly delegated bathrooms and kitchens to DW as I can't handle the smell of a lot of the products so this week in what is usually "bathroom week" I'll mostly be trusting my gut and seeing what needs doing elsewhere.

Today's plan/wishlist:
🤔 Rediscover the coffee table, and wipe it down
🤔 Put away basket of clean laundry
🤔 Put away clothes airer
🤔 10 minute moments of counter tidying in utility (I might even take before and after pictures it's horrendous in there)
🤔 Order cat litter and carbon filters for litter tray
🤔 Clean ensuite shower doors
🤔 Mop all bathroom floors
🤔 Mop conservatory? Kitchen? Might be a long shot

CabbageBearGoat · 13/05/2024 18:59

Today's wins:
🎉 2x 10 minutes of counter tidying in utility
🎉 Ordered cat litter and carbon filters for litter tray
🎉 Cleaned ensuite shower doors
🎉 Restocked loo roll in ensuite and family bathroom
🎉 Vacuumed garage doormat
🎉 Vacuumed utility

Moved to tomorrow's to do list:
🤔 Rediscover the coffee table, and wipe it down
🤔 Put away basket of clean laundry
🤔 Put away clothes airer
🤔 Mop all bathroom floors
🤔 Mop conservatory? Kitchen? Might be a long shot

Tada!
🍎Bathroom Windowsill tidied and wiped down
🍏winter blanket from our bed washed and dried prior to putting away

Tuesday

http://www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60
Flightplan link is here. The mission for Tuesday is to scrub the bath or shower and work for 15 minutes on whatever is the worst room in your house (the landing here)

OP posts:
Searchingforsunnydays · 14/05/2024 07:53

Oooo @EasilyDeterred , I'm curios to know what wool project are you starting ?

Ta da
🎉 up, showered, dressed , hair , half makeup (I don't put foundation on until I'm about to go out)
🎉my bed made and a quick tidy of surfaces (planning to dust and hoover bedrooms later)
🎉breakfasts

Currently having 5 mins with my coffee whilst kids are starting to get ready for school. I used to rush around and try to get lots done before work but found I crashed mid afternoon so now I try to set a timer and have little breaks throughout the day , it keeps my energy levels more stable and also I'm in a better mood for it 😆

Wishing everyone a good day ! It's throwing it down with rain here , good for the plants but I have enjoyed having a bit of sunshine the past few days !

Searchingforsunnydays · 14/05/2024 07:54

*curious 🤦‍♀️

EasilyDeterred · 14/05/2024 10:54

It's one for the Woolly Hugs charity @Searchingforsunnydays , I have been crocheting for them for many years. I have nearly finished a blanket I am working on for them and as my yarn stash is kept under the bed alongside out of season clothes I had a sort out of both at the same time yesterday.

HazelNotHungryLC · 14/05/2024 15:09

Phew, everyone's been so busy!

I did get some of my new flowers planted in pots yesterday, not many more to do, although lots to put in the ground. I will try to post pictures later today.

There's a lot I want to get done today, but not sure I'm going to get to it all. I do know I need to take the dogs to the groomer today and give them a bath afterwards. I also need to go grocery shopping and do meal planning.
Hopefully I'll be back with some ta das later today 🍒👋

Luddite26 · 14/05/2024 16:03

I desperately need to join. I never get past cleaning the kitchen sink when I do it on my own.

TheMainCharacter · 14/05/2024 16:20

@HazelNotHungryLC I love nice gardens and plants but sadly detest gardening so it’s probably just as well that we only have a tiny garden and a balcony until such a time I can afford a gardener 😆
Been on a bit of a productive roll again today, have even given the floors a quick mop (didn’t move any furniture but did the bits I can get to). It’s been raining again anyway so feels like wasted effort. Some might say they need a more thorough mopping when it’s raining outside and everyone has wet dirty shoes but I am not she.

Welcome @Luddite26 . This is a really nice thread. Great for motivation and accountability but also just for the chat. Jump right in!

HazelNotHungryLC · 14/05/2024 17:25

Welcome @Luddite26 👋

Ta das so far:
🐶 stripped master bed, sheets in washer
🐶 dressed, makeup on, hair done
🐶 took dogs to groomer
🐶 currently in car wash (the Jeep was filthy!)

When I get home I need to call MIL for her plan today, I'm going to buy her at least 1 new pot for flowers, she's using broken ones, simply because they were her grandpa's 🤦‍♀️ they are cheap plastic ones that she's had decades! It's time to get new ones.

I'm having trouble with my breathing this morning, so I'm not sure how much I'm actually going to achieve. I've used my inhaler and it seems to be helping, but only time will tell. It's been months since I've had to use it.

HazelNotHungryLC · 14/05/2024 18:40

character I enjoy gardening, until I get tired of watering them every day (it gets really hot here in the middle of summer).
Champagne cream tea sounds so nice and fancy!

ED that was a full day for you! Well done on the multitasking as well, it's nice to be able to tick off multiple things at the same time.

I have my 2nd lol in the washer. I'm about to leave to take MIL shopping and should be back home in time for lunch. I have my meal plan done and shopping list created.
The wind is awful outside today so might not get anything done out there after all.
