How much do you pay your window cleaner?

We live in a 4 bed detached house and, until today, paid £20 to our window cleaner who comes round when he can be bothered. I reckon it would take him about 10-15 mins tops to do our windows.

He came today, said something about now using a new shampoo (soap? Wasn't paying that much attention), maybe spent an extra 5 mins doing the windows but has charged us £25 - a 25% increase.

Obviously I get that prices are going up everywhere but am not sure if that is a bit excessive or actually an acceptable amount?

Oh wise MN folk, please let me know what you think...

Never had a window cleaner by it sounds quite average cost wise, assuming he has to pay fuel, insurance, equipment etc. most things have risen unfortunately

JaninaDuszejko · 03/03/2023 16:15

My window cleaners come every 6 weeks. If they just do the front and side of the house (2 bay windows, door with leaded lights plus 6 other windows) it's £5.50. A bargain! If they also do the back of the house as well (1 bay, 3 fully paned french doors plus full length windows each side, a single door plus 2 other windows) it's £15. I live in the NE.

Melonportal · 03/03/2023 16:17

Also in a 4-bed detached. £11 every 4 weeks. NE.

SBAM · 03/03/2023 16:18

£20, he comes every two months. Doing a quick count in my head I think we have 10 windows and a set of patio doors. It’s been £20 for the last 3 years so I’m kind of expecting it to increase soon.

SBAM · 03/03/2023 16:18

Oh, and I’m in the south east, Greater London adjacent.

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 03/03/2023 16:18

2 bed bungalow with a bay window at front and french doors at the back. £12 a month in Essex

TheChosenTwo · 03/03/2023 16:21

It’s £32, he comes once every 4-6 weeks.
5 bed semi with loft conversion, bifolds all
across the back of the kitchen, veluxes on kitchen roof and in the loft.
seems reasonable to me, he’s done in about 20 minutes or so.

TeenTraumaTrials · 03/03/2023 16:25

That sounds expensive to me. We are £10 roughly once a month. 4 bedroom detached with 3m bifold in the back room. South of Scotland

Soontobe60 · 03/03/2023 16:31

I have 5 average windows and a big patio door. He comes every other week and I pay £4 each time. I reckon he takes maybe 10 minutes, but has to walk about 100m to get to the rear of the house.

custardbear · 03/03/2023 16:35

5 bed detached, he does 4 doors (one is 6 panel bifold, two French doors and front door) 3 large windows and a small one. Upstairs 2 velux and 2 medium sized windows. The rest are velux on the roof so inaccessible. He charges £15 monthly but probably comes less frequently in the winter

purpledalmation · 03/03/2023 16:40

£7. They are up those ladders like whippets and my windows are sparkly. They also clean my gutters for a few cans of beer.

spacechimp79 · 03/03/2023 16:50

I think that is very expensive. I used to pay £8 a month for my four bed terrace. No way would I pay that much when it hardly takes them any time to do.

LumpyandBumps · 03/03/2023 16:53

4 bed detached in Suffolk. I paid £14 yesterday. He calls every 4-8 weeks.

I hope the price doesn’t rise in the near future as it’s the next thing on my list of cost saving cuts. I don’t fancy getting up the ladder to do them myself.

Greenbeans123 · 03/03/2023 16:54

£7 every 4 weeks. 4 bed semi.

Upwiththelark76 · 03/03/2023 16:56

3 bed semi
15 quid

katsue · 03/03/2023 16:58

£2 per window whatever the size so we win on the patio doors and lose on the bathroom window and it all evens out. £24 for us.

Okunevo · 03/03/2023 17:00

Mine depends on how often you want it done. Quarterly is £18, three bed semi. More often would be less.

Choccyoclocky · 03/03/2023 17:17

8 windows.
£6 every 4-6 weeks.

He doesn't have fancy equipment though. Bucket, soapy water, squeegee, and rags.

Callistamon62 · 03/03/2023 17:25

3 bed bungalow, big windows, 3 doors, conservatory & garden room £20 in Norfolk

Lougle · 03/03/2023 17:39

3 bed semi. £22 every 8 weeks.

Sadless · 03/03/2023 17:44

Mines £11 a month 3 bed semi and they use a pole so don't even climb the ladders.

4 bedroom detached with a study and a large conservatory.Window cleaner comes every 6-8 weeks and charges £15

Sunsetintheeast · 03/03/2023 17:47

Fucking hell, I can’t even tell you what ours is, I’m being ripped off!

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 03/03/2023 17:53

3-bed bungalow. South West. £20 a time every 8 weeks or so. He uses some sort of filter system for the water and has an assistant so it only takes them about ten mins. This was the same at our previous house (3 bed terrace).

Freysimo · 03/03/2023 17:56

Detached three bed bungalow, West Wales £15.
