How much do you pay your window cleaner?

GingerPigz · 03/03/2023 15:39

We live in a 4 bed detached house and, until today, paid £20 to our window cleaner who comes round when he can be bothered. I reckon it would take him about 10-15 mins tops to do our windows.

He came today, said something about now using a new shampoo (soap? Wasn't paying that much attention), maybe spent an extra 5 mins doing the windows but has charged us £25 - a 25% increase.

Obviously I get that prices are going up everywhere but am not sure if that is a bit excessive or actually an acceptable amount?

Oh wise MN folk, please let me know what you think...

we have been paying £15 every 6 weeks or so for a 3 bed semi in Jersey.

It seems ridiculously low tbh, but it has never gone up in 20 years

DinnaeFashYersel · 13/07/2024 13:32

£15. 4 bed house with a lot of windows. Takes them (2) about 20-25 minutes.

Ohmych · 13/07/2024 13:39

£13 for a 3 bed semi.

mondaytosunday · 13/07/2024 13:44

£10 but I'm in a terrace so they only do the front: five windows (they will do the back if requested). The come every other month.

dementedpixie · 13/07/2024 13:46

£9 for a 4 bed detached in Scotland using a pole system. Every 4 weeks I think

WearyAuldWumman · 13/07/2024 13:46

I'm in Scotland. 2 bed end-terraced house which became a 3 bed with a small sitting room and shower room when we added our extension, so 3 extra windows downstairs.

£8, once a month.

FajitasForDinner · 13/07/2024 13:48

I live in NW, 3 bed end of terrace house, window cleaner comes once a month - £4.50

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 13/07/2024 13:50

£10 every 6 weeks, 3 bed end terrace 9 windows, 2 doors. Pole system with de ionised water. South Warwickshire.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 13/07/2024 13:51

£25??

Mine charges £2 to do the front, and (if I've remembered to unlock the back gate) £4 to do the back as well, including the conservatory.

NE England, to add. Large windows (2 metres plus, wide)

Hedgeoffressian · 13/07/2024 13:52

I had a guy come round and quote me about £80 for our house to clean the windows and the facia boards. It’s a townhouse with 9 windows and French doors. I didn’t bother and haven’t bothered getting any other quotes as I think that is astronomical and would rather do it ourselves. We don’t live in London by the way.

oOiluvfriendsOo · 13/07/2024 13:54

£10 whenever they bother coming, probably every 6-8 weeks.

I have 3 double floor to ceiling windows and 8 smaller windows..

Vettrianofan · 13/07/2024 13:57

£7. 4 bed.

KevinDeBrioche · 13/07/2024 13:58

These are insanely cheap. Someone on my road paid £130 last month, all windows inside and out including loft extension.

autienotnaughty · 13/07/2024 14:00

£12 four bed. Extra for gutters

uselessgran · 26/01/2025 13:08

Can anyone recommend window cleaner in Southwell Notts area?

Whoarethoseguys · 26/01/2025 13:16

£10 for 7 windows including french windows, and two bays.

cleanable · 26/01/2025 14:01

Victorian flat in East Scotland. They come very couple of months and charge £16 for two big bays and six big single windows.

ThoroughlyModernNotMillie · 26/01/2025 14:14

I've given up on window cleaners. Used to have a great guy that did them the traditional way with mop and ladders, he washed the frames too and dried right into the corners. He retired and I tried a couple after that, who spent a very short time doing them with a pole and purified water, which supposedly meant they didn't need drying. A huge difference in the outcome, pole people didn't do frames, or wash into the corners properly and not drying them left drip marks.
I now do them myself, downstairs off a step ladder and hang out of the upstairs windows to do those. I don't do them all in one go or as often as I should, but at least I'm not being irritated by paying someone else to do shoddy work.

flyinghen · 27/01/2025 07:02

3 bed semi £10.50

mrsed1987 · 27/01/2025 07:45

4 bed detached, comes every 8 weeks.

Front of the house is a door and bay window, please 3 upstairs windows

A single window at the side

Back of the house is patio doors, a double window and a back door and 3 upstairs windows. We pay £21 and that has been the same for the 2.5 years we have been here.

Titasaducksarse · 27/01/2025 07:51

3 bed semi
That pole filtered system.
£18. They are here about 20 minutes and do all fascias too. Better than last lot who used same system and were done in 5 minutes...windows never seemed to stay clean. Similar price.
South Wales.
Really interesting as usually things are cheaper here than in other places in UK but not window cleaning it seems!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 27/01/2025 07:55

I can't believe how little some window cleaners are charging!

We pay £35 for our 4 bed detached house.we have 18 large sash windows, a set of patio doors, front and back doors plus some smaller windows in an extension. There are two of them and they take about 30 - 40 minutes.

In our last house we had fewer windows and paid £25 but it had been that price for over 10 years.

Shityshitybangbang · 27/01/2025 07:57

3 bed detached. 13 windows. 12 quid monthly

Florally · 27/01/2025 07:58

I feel like I’m being ripped off… I live the south east and pay £40. 2 bay windows, front door, 4 ‘regular’ smaller windows and bifolds.

Might cancel now on the back of reading this thread…

RampantIvy · 27/01/2025 08:00

4 bed detached. 12 windows and a conservatory £17 once a month.
