How much do you pay your window cleaner?

We live in a 4 bed detached house and, until today, paid £20 to our window cleaner who comes round when he can be bothered. I reckon it would take him about 10-15 mins tops to do our windows.

He came today, said something about now using a new shampoo (soap? Wasn't paying that much attention), maybe spent an extra 5 mins doing the windows but has charged us £25 - a 25% increase.

Obviously I get that prices are going up everywhere but am not sure if that is a bit excessive or actually an acceptable amount?

Oh wise MN folk, please let me know what you think...

A month!

SquigglePigs · 03/03/2023 18:18

Ours is £35 but it's a big detached house with a conservatory so although I feel it's a bit expensive, it's not wildly so. They were the only people we could get when we moved in so just had to such it up really!

GingerPigz · 03/03/2023 18:28

Thanks everyone... hadn't even thought about the implications of location (doh!) - we are southwest. Sooo, it would seem we are now the upper side of acceptable and, tbh, I really can't be arsed to find someone else. Still annoyed with the lack of communication though.

I pay £25 every 8 weeks. We are 3 bed but have large bifolds and a skylight that he does. I'm in the SE.

petitdonkey · 03/03/2023 18:40

Holy crap! Mine was £85 last time!!! (Which is why my windows are generally filthy!)

AlwaysLatte · 03/03/2023 18:43

Ours came today, he's charged £25 for a while - 3 story 4 bed, 4 reception house with separate annexe. I think it's really reasonable (also he uses the old school cloths and distilled water).

GoodChat · 03/03/2023 18:44

5 bed detached - we had a guy do a crap job for £30. I know some neighbours with 3/4 beds are paying close to £50.

AlwaysLatte · 03/03/2023 18:44

Ours comes every 3 weeks (don't ask me why, he couldn't do every 4 weeks and we didn't want to wait 6)

1984Winston · 03/03/2023 18:45

We pay £12.50 for a 3 bed end terrace with French doors at the back

catinboooots · 03/03/2023 18:47

My average 3 bed with patio doors is £12 including all sills etc. Kent.

eurochick · 03/03/2023 23:43

£40. Five bed detached. We paid £30 at our last house that probably had more glass with the same window cleaner but that was on a suburban street in town whereas we are now semi rural so I figure a bit extra for coming out to us is fair.

ohfook · 04/03/2023 00:21

4 bed semi - £10 a month

DelphiniumBlue · 04/03/2023 00:52

Mine is a London terrace, so he only does the front. Just gone up to a tenner every 6 weeks.

GobbieMaggie · 04/03/2023 01:07

£15 but just the first floor windows.

NextToTheRadio · 04/03/2023 01:13

£20 also cleans the front door - 3 bed semi (16 windows and doors). London.

mrsfollowill · 04/03/2023 01:25

Funny I was talking about this today - he cleaned our windows the day we moved into this house- my MIL saw him in the street and asked him to do ours- he obliged and charged me £4.00. He comes every 3 weeks and still charges me £4.00. He has done this for 25yrs we have just paid our mortgage off!

Snugglemonkey · 04/03/2023 03:19

We have a 5 bed detached house with 2 sets of French doors. We pay £10 fortnightly. So worth it!

leccybill · 04/03/2023 07:37

3 bed semi
£6.50
Merseyside

Pashazade · 04/03/2023 08:15

Hmmm now wondering if I'm being overcharged, but £32 for a 4 bed semi South East, bi folds and velux (so there is an element of danger money in there!)

Sunsetintheeast · 07/03/2023 16:33

I’ve now found a new window cleaner because of this thread. £45 for 3 floors and velux, bifolds. Seems much better!

Isseywith3witchycats · 07/03/2023 18:28

GingerPigz · 12/03/2023 10:51

Window cleaning is big business around here - we pay £65 every eight weeks. And they were the cheapest quote I got - one firm quoted £140.

GingerPigz · 12/03/2023 11:50

@WellTidy Jeez, that's steep! What area?
