Anyone else rocking the housework?

My housekeeping was always somewhat chaotic, and since these were launched, my house is far more functional and a podcast away from actually looking rather orderly, even at short notice.

I tend to pick what I need each day rather than following the tradtitonal TOMM, but do refer back to that to help get some jobs done if they're in danger of being neglected.

I think my most used tracks are the "Calm Laundry Put Away" the "Bitesize Bathroom Blitz" and the "Quick Kitchen Turnaround"

Yes I'm rocking it and I LOVE it!

I decided to sign up for a month, back in October, just to see what it was like, but I still use at least 2 of her sessions every day! My favourites are the after dinner cleans and the tidy-ups.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/01/2023 13:49

I've finally got the house to myself today after 3 long weeks!

Started the day with the bitesize kitchen which I find handy for doing the dishwasher, then did the Kitchen Turn Around.
I also managed to get the bitesized bathroom on.

The house feels surprisingly civilised for the first day post-holidays!

I'll probably do a Living Room Turn Around and finish off the downstairs vacuuming and that will take care of the Level 1s which will have been covered gradually.

Been busy decorating, but the 30 minute scurryfunge track's been good for a general house restoration session.

I use these all the time too. I have the app, and it really helps me a lot. I used to get very overwhelmed, and not know where to start. Now I have a list of tasks every day, and that list comes to an end. If I don't have the time or energy one day, it's ok because it comes around again the next week. It also helps me to structure my week. I have a chronic health condition, and depression. This really does help me a lot.

Amore2 · 03/02/2023 06:35

They’re fab, yes. Just great to get over the initial inertia of cleaning and don’t have to think, just follow! I like the level 1s as it’s good to see how Gem spends a bit longer on some things each day. I also use the new parent cleans (not a new parent 😂) when work is really busy as it’s a 15 minute quick clean which is enough sometimes. Wondering if I can clean without them now! 🙃

LexieLoos · 20/02/2023 14:12

I've just signed up and they have honestly changed my life and house in the space of a few days

It has made me wonder how it took me so much time to do things before though!

MumL12 · 11/06/2023 13:12

Yes this. I really don’t know aswell why things took me so long before and were such a struggle and unmanageable task. I’m so glad I found Rock the housework

BogRollBOGOF · 15/06/2023 15:00

I enjoyed yesterday's new one (Get the basics done) and it was brilliant for refreshing the key rooms. It's amazing what can be done with 30 mins with Gemma in your ear, because it would probably have taken me most of the day and left me as a burned out wreck to have got to the same result on my own.

I'm getting better at doing some little jobs without hunting out the Bitesize cleans because I now know that 5 mins does make a difference and doing housework doesn't have to be an epic battle to achieve immaculate which was always a big stumbling block.

These sound interesting, is there music to them?

BogRollBOGOF · 16/06/2023 10:19

Yes, the music varies from podcast to podcast. Some are more chilled out, some more motivating. It's not necessarily what I'd play for myself, but I like having music for specific things. I use C25k podcasts a lot for this reason even when I'm capable of running half marathons/ marathons.

It makes me laugh when the kids' gamers use the Bitesize Bathroom Blitz music, as to me that's for scrubbing the toilet 😂

Rock the Housework is amazing! It has changed my life, mad as that sounds. Even when we've let things slide for a couple of days and the house looks crappy, I know if I stick on one of the catch-up ones, in like 30 mins our house will be back to 'good enough' again.

Pointypointything · 16/06/2023 10:34

Is there a holiday unpacking one? Could really do with that today!

BogRollBOGOF · 16/06/2023 13:44

I've put in requests for unpacking 😂

There's a good general keep me company for the thing I'm putting off.
Maybe putting the food shopping away? 😂

I love the way the house now feels easily redeemable.

FlightOfTheProcrastinator · 22/06/2023 11:57

Just joined this and I love it. I don’t even necessarily do what she says to do on each timed section, it’s just some company and reminders of when to maybe move on so it’s not overwhelming.

A strange concept to describe to someone but ever so helpful!

Whats the best way of finding cleans though? I’m currently scrolling through the Patreon app to find something suitable but it takes a while.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/06/2023 17:08

The website is better, then links to the patreon page.

I always find that worktops then dishes is the wrong way round for me. I need to get things in the dishwasher to clean the tops. I quite like a bit of consequence-free rebellion 😂

FlightOfTheProcrastinator · 22/06/2023 17:22

Thanks @BogRollBOGOF I haven’t actually visited the website at all.

I’m amazed at how much tidying I have to do before getting to any of the actual cleaning! Like, at least twice as long every day! 😳

LolaSmiles · 22/06/2023 17:24

I've not signed up to the Patron yet but like TOMM. This thread might convince me to try it.

Beachhutnut · 22/06/2023 17:45

They are fab. My only complaint is that it's trickier to find the cleans on the Patron Pp but if I go on via the rock the housework website the cleans always stop playing part way through and it interrupts the flow as then have to go back in and restart. Anyone else find this?

BogRollBOGOF · 23/06/2023 18:33

I don't get that glitch, but I do have some that seem to "stick" more easily than others for some reason.

I've made good use of the recent Productive Morning to do some decluttering and sorting today.

Normally "take little breaks often" actually means "drift off and abandon the job" but keeping Gemma talking meant that I could actually follow the strategy.

Can I join! I love rock th3 housework Gemma is so amazing I have adhd and find housework so hard and it's made it so much easier I'm not in the routine I would like but the house is so much better since I've paid the £3.60 about 5 months ago

Sunnysidegold · 01/07/2023 10:35

Oooh this is very interesting. I've just started summer holidays from work and was thinking of some sort of plan to help me get on stuff again. I love Tomm for the initial declutter and clean (that's next week) but I am so lazy and easily distracted this might just work! I think my family will think I'm mad though.

Can anyone give an outline of what it's like? Like is it a "use the next song to clean the loo" or what?

I haven’t used it myself as I’m happy just doing classic TOMM and adapting it and listening to my own podcasts. I think there is a 7 day free trial.

Midnightpony · 01/07/2023 10:46

Is it £3.60 as a once off or per month?

It's £3.60 per month on patron, definitely best £3.60 a month I spend !

LolaSmiles · 01/07/2023 12:27

What's different about the Patreon content from the normal content? I need to sort myself out but have had bad experiences trying to cancel online rolling content so I've not signed up.
