Anyone else rocking the housework?

My housekeeping was always somewhat chaotic, and since these were launched, my house is far more functional and a podcast away from actually looking rather orderly, even at short notice.

I tend to pick what I need each day rather than following the tradtitonal TOMM, but do refer back to that to help get some jobs done if they're in danger of being neglected.

I think my most used tracks are the "Calm Laundry Put Away" the "Bitesize Bathroom Blitz" and the "Quick Kitchen Turnaround"

Oh, man, I clearly just blocked that from memory. If you do the rth level 1 sessions then dishes don't get a mention.

All the best with the declutter. I didn't get very far yesterday, just got through the bookcases. I hadn't realized how many books and papers were languishing among them that were relics of covid homeschooling.

I might have another stab at it today.

BogRollBOGOF · 12/09/2023 16:26

I've been kitchening. Started with the Dreamy Kitchen (non-dishwasher) and did a Quick Turnaround to polish off as it had reached grot level. It's looking pretty decent up the kitchen end now.

Done a big stack of putting laundry away. Some of it was partially sorted earlier in the week and put into bags by type which sped it up for dealing with. I've gone off piste with some youtube videos rather than looping RTHs.

I've got a bedroom floor again!

FourTeaFallOut · 14/09/2023 14:47

Ooh, which videos are you looking at? I used a productive afternoon to prep dinner, do paperwork, and get through loads of washing.

I tried to do the 5minute kitchen tidy last night...it didn't go well 😁

BogRollBOGOF · 15/09/2023 09:52

The Carla Project has a lot of "doing" type videos.

There's one I forget the name of who's northern and very down to earth and is just a "what I'm doing today" type person who I like. Quite small scale, but I love her realism.

I like Dana K White, but don't tend to bother with the Q&A type ones. She doesn't seem to do so many hands on videos as she did.

Aurikatarina makes me feel like I live in paradise 😂

I had a quick watch of one of Aurikatarina's vids off the back of your recommendation and that was an eye opener 😳 I can't believe how anyone could be that happy to tackle that level of chaos and filth. Still, it's quite heartening to see a home emerge from underneath.

I've just done one of the deep bedroom cleans and now it's so nice I'm tempted to hide here all afternoon.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/09/2023 16:06

Aurikatarina is a remarkable woman!
My gag reaction would never cope, but it is incredible what she achieves and what that must mean for the people she's done it for.

Yesterday we had low sunshine which triggered a 2 hour window cleaning blitz through most rooms. I managed to do the outsides too. I love seeing through clear windows. It's not an easy job, and it has to be done at the right moment, but at least the results last well.

I did realise after cleaning one window that there was a greasy bird mark on it... consistent with being a pigeon, and it would explain the lame pigeon in the garden a few weeks ago. I thought that cats or foxes would deal with it, but I had to do the deed myself in the end 😖

A new week and the dishwasher is in action.

I think a general multi-room clean will get the house going this morning. It's not bad but needs a general freshen.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/09/2023 13:04

I did the upstairs calm clean yesterday. I did the downstairs listening to Terry Pratchett's Men at Arms 😁

The weather is atrocious up here now - bed linen day will have to go back to a more piecemeal affair dotted through the week otherwise the house will drown under wet washing.

Saw there was another declutter drop today. I feel like I've done all the easy declutter jobs now and what remains is just awkward stuff that probably needs selling rather than taken to the charity shop/ tip. It's in the too difficult pile for today anyway.

Falling off the wagon a bit this week. 😬Back to school for me and the DC so just doing level 1s (and not consistently) but did manage the 75 min house reset weekend before last. Really hard to fit everything in working f/t, marking and ferrying kids around, as well as this, I have been quite stressed etc… but don’t want to let the mess build up!

Anyway, enough about me….! Well done @BogRollBOGOF and @FourTeaFallOut , it sounds like you are getting quite a bit consistently done and listening to Terry Pratchett at the same time is a great idea. I love him. 😊

EmmaEmerald · 19/09/2023 05:06

Just found this thread

Does Patreon want credit card details for the trial week?

a couple of posters mentiined listening to Dana White. I looked that up and there's tons of them, but are any of them "listen along"?

thank you

CocoPlum · 19/09/2023 07:46

I think you might need to put your card details in for the trial, but I believe on the Organised Mum Show podcast there are some early Rock the Houseworks if you scroll back far enough. Might give you an idea?

Dana doesn't have any "declutter with me" audio but she has over 350 podcast episodes, and there's a great youtube video she did which demonstates her 5 step process on a craft cabinet, I watch that sometimes when I'm decluttering.

EmmaEmerald · 19/09/2023 08:50

Thank you Coco

I don't work full-time anymore and when I did, when the kids were little, I had a cleaner because I found it impossibly hard to keep up with. Don't give yourself a hard time.

And make sure it isn't all on you on the weekend. Those kid's cleans are very motivational 😁

BogRollBOGOF · 22/09/2023 16:56

A good olde Dreamy Kitchen today. I did the 75 min reset earlier in the week which sorted most rooms out, and they're still showing the benefit.

I can't seem to get on top of the kitchen at the moment. It seems to have a lot of blind spots that I'm cleaning around without it really looking "done"

Did CBA clean tonight. Very proud of myself though even though it was only 15 mins, the house feels soooo much better and I have more clarity. Gem is great! I have a stinking cold and don’t feel great but needed to do something as the house was spiralling down.
Tomorrow will do the 75 min house reset, have a large amount of washing to take off airers and then that’s enough to get us through another week with us doing L1s each day.
It is not classic TOMM but better than nothing.
Hope everyone else had a good week. X

FourTeaFallOut · 23/09/2023 16:55

I got caught up with the kitchen with the newest kitchen drop today and deployed the upbeat laundry to get on top of the clothing situation which was building up.

My youngest has come down with a heavy cold. I have a couple of respiratory illnesses that make colds a bit more of an ordeal for me. So I'm trying to be more strategic about what is actually useful to get on top of and future friend the shit out of life, just in case. Basically cleaning the fridge and ironing is out and batch cooking is in.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/09/2023 17:44

I'm thinking of another 75 min reset this week. It reminds me of the Fly Lady weekly blessing.

Got the week off to a decent start on getting through some L1 type jobs that were backing up.

Terrifying development. I'm totally addicted to the keep me company - cooking dinner session. I thought this was fairly benign until I made dinner without it last night but realized I had the same songs playing in my head. I'm a bit concerned now that if anyone plays that 'follow your heartbeat' song around me I might just head straight to the nearest kitchen on auto-pilot and start prepping food. 😬🤪

LadyAmeliaSmallhope · 28/09/2023 00:04

@FourTeaFallOut I think I may need some sort of autocue like that to start cooking, I CBA today and took the DC to McDonalds Grin

(In my defence I had cleaned the kitchen for an hour and a half, was knackered and really didn't want to create any more mess!!)

Have to admit I'm not a massive fan of all the music - I prefer more cheesy upbeat stuff - but it does keep me motivated to have Gemma on in the background!

I love that one too. It definitely helps when preparing a proper meal.
I'd love more on that theme.

I favour the chill out type of music. The more poppy ones aren't what I'd put on for their own sake. But I like that the RTH music is not what I generally listen to. After 18m of using them literally from the first day they dropped on Spotify, I've kind of got muscle memory of being in cleaning mode when I hear that music. I'm the same with C25k podcasts too. I've been running for years, but I still often play C25k tracks because my body is programmed to run to it.

I did a Dirty 30 rather than the 75 min. It gave good results though.

Good to see I'm not the only one!

As expected, I did come down with the lurgy and now I'm much better ...but the state of the house 😬😬

I'm not sure where to start really but we have guests coming this afternoon. I don't think I have 75 minutes in me. Going to rally the kids and see if one of those multi people cleans can do the business without it descending into chaos.

CupOfTia · 01/10/2023 19:58

Just re joined on here and so glad came across this thread about rock the housework! It's my survival tool! Just about to start the dreamy after dinner clean up!! Also.. where do u find the 75min house reset. No idea why can't find it anywhere

FourTeaFallOut · 02/10/2023 08:54

It's under multi-room & misc in the vault.

I've never got through the whole thing 🤣

It's a new rotation on the TOMM today and I'm going to try and keep up with the next 8 weeks which should take us up to the first week in December. But then, I did say that 8 weeks ago and that didn't happen.

Rainbowsandbutterflies1990 · 02/10/2023 14:15

So her app is getting make over and tried to log in but didn't work, going to be able to use the rock the housework from app and not sure I need to delete patron? Very confusing
