Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Babysteps are here www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

Thanks for the lovely new thread ED. I’m enthusiastically jumping in, all bright eyed and bushy tailed for a fresh start. I think I need to go through the baby steps again to be honest, as well as remembering zone cleaning - I don’t think I’ve managed to stay on track for a full month for my whole maternity leave Blush

I intend to be back tomorrow with some decent ta das. Cherry waves to all lovely fledglings 👋

beststepforward · 31/08/2022 21:48

Thanks! Just joining for the first time. I find the website quite difficult to navigate so will be good to just have somewhere to check in.

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 21:54

Hi @beststepforward and welcome. The website is indeed somewhat clunky, it hasn’t changed much in years. However the principles are good. I have slacked off a bit over the summer so it will be good to get back in routine again.

Thanks for new thread ED!

I am saying this every month at the moment but I really need to stay on thread and get more organised! The need feels greater now with the new term looming.

On holiday at the moment and it’s been eventful both here (Dorset) and at home to say the least, but overall brilliant and the Caglets have all made me very proud! We have one more full day here, home on Friday, then on Monday DD1 starts year 11 and the other two start their home ed year (year 9 for DS, reception for Cagletini!). Also back to work and OU - glad I got some planning and a little writing done on my last assignment before the holiday but the deadline of the 13th seems very soon indeed when we have so much else going on.

Must now try and figure out what we are doing tomorrow!

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/08/2022 23:53

I have dorset envy. Sea don't look right without the island in it.

Thanks ED for taking on September

Right i need to crash it has been a long and eventful day, not no disasters as far as I am aware so that is a huge thing to be grateful for.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/09/2022 05:22

I am moderately certain no one is impersonating me,so yep ..I am back!
Things have been....difficult.having some health issues which leave me having energy level problems.zoolets are still requiring well above average levels of support for age groups.its all rather a mess- which brings me to the state of my house...
I've kept up,mostly, laundry but lordy the rest of things haven't just slid a little more landslide🤣🤣
I need accountability, and I've missed you all dreadfully.i so hate the new format here but I've missed my MN friends more and tales of all your lives, your families etc.have I missed anything major?how are you all?

pompomseverywhere · 01/09/2022 05:49

Hello I'm joining with baby steps. I've moved house over the summer so would like this to help me keep on top of things. I love September and new starts

EspeciallyDivided · 01/09/2022 07:13

Morning all, welcome on board @pompomseverywhere , a new house is a good time for a fresh start.

Zoo! welcome back, good to hear from you. And you Perry

Hills - I’m with you on the island thing, the sea looks a bit bare without it.

Up - congrats on the promotion, when do you start back?

Hazel - hoping I’ll be able to get back in the groove too once my DCs are started at (gulp) uni and college over the next couple of weeks, how did this summer go so quickly.

So, today being the first of the month our babystep is www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/ - shining our sink, also familiarising ourselves with the babystep idea

We are in Zone 1, the front porch, entrance area and dining room. Our mission today is to toss the trash. The flight plan is here www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

For beginners - Flylady splits the house into weekly zones and sets us a daily zone based “mission” a job that doesn’t need doing every day or every week but that will make a difference. However if you are looking at your zone thinking “I can’t do this there is too much mess” then you need to start decluttering first, set a timer for 15 minutes and remove things that don’t belong in the room. I tend to start with paper which accumulates everywhere in this house (also odd socks 🙄). Don’t start tipping out entire wardrobes or cupboards all in one go, tackle eg a drawer at a time.

Thursday is also errand day, but that might not work depending on your other plans. It is often a good fit for me as I work a short day on Thursdays.

<looks at sink.hangs head in shame>

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2022 09:37

It's ok Zoo I'm ignoring the sink. Doesn't matter if it is not shiny if it doesn't exist - kitchen is still mid clear up after the messy explosive disaster the other day.

I have 4 important things today:
ring doc to discuss a med i want back
ring specialist team re appointment
contact bank urgently
Study - exam prep

Also to do:
finish clearing up kitchen
plants repotted
laundry hung to dry
remaining laundry left to do
<insert 50billion things that should be done but i am ignoring>
date night

beststepforward · 01/09/2022 13:03

I've cleaned the kitchen, hoovered downstairs (left the hoover in dining room as can't get the spider!) and put things away that shouldn't be there

Got a few more things to put away in the hall

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2022 13:33

Right - I am about to escape to my office to study.

ta da
Tea is out of freezer to defrost and delegated
ring doc to discuss a med i want back - appointment made
ring specialist team re appointment - need to ring back next week schedule not available to align
contact bank urgently - done
Dw empty, reloaded and put on to run
grill pans washed
fish tank water change
laundry hung to dry
remaining laundry left to do - 2 loads done - more to go

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/09/2022 19:00

Spend silly amount hours sorting the girls room if doom.....
Rest house a sty but you can get in there without breaking necks

EspeciallyDivided · 01/09/2022 21:05

Tada!

Fed cats (received no thanks, just lots of indignant squawks when I wasn’t quick enough opening the tin)
Washing on
Assembled packed lunch and work stuff
Fetched milk off doorstep
Tidied a pile of papers off the kitchen counter (I know, wrong zone but at least I cleaned the front door yesterday)
Washing on line
Went to work
Home again and took DS to the orthodontist
Got petrol
Picked up click and collect order from M&S
Home, chatted to DH who was WFH today
Went to the gym
Home and cooked dinner
Zoom meeting
Cleared up dinner stuff and put DW on.

Beststep - well done on zone work!

Zoo - the room of doom <nods> those girls are lucky to have you

Hills - I missed what happened explosively but hope no one came a cropper.

mothermacca · 01/09/2022 22:20

Total newbie here too! Had a look at the links this morning (website not the easiest to read) and today I've shined my sink (never knew it could be so shiny Blush) and decluttered my hall tree. Hope I've started right Hmm

hello people 😀 We've been back at school for two weeks now. House is benefitting from the massive tidy I did in the holidays, and I'm determined to keep up with FlyZones.

LG walks to and from school with friends now, and LB and I relax for ten minutes before I drive him. Once a week, LB walks home with LG. It's good to see them both becoming more self-sufficient.

H is gradually coming on board with tidying and decluttering garage. We agreed about felling a tree which has been getting out of hand this summer. Ideally we'd keep it for birds, etc, but we'll comromise by using the longer branches for climbing roses.

I pulled some weeds and found several tiny wild strawberry plants underneath. Here's hoping I can transplant them into the garden successfully. The fruits are delicious.

Redsquirrel5 · 02/09/2022 00:28

Pulls out soft feather duster to get the cobwebs off Zoo. That’s better glad to see you🤗

Thanks for August Hills and ED for September. Haven’t caught up yet because half asleep. Dozed off twice.

0lanned to sort Hall upstairs. Didn’t happen.

Had bad visual disturbance and then headache started. DH decided we could sand the table. We have needed to do this for the last three years!
He has used the excuse that he can’t find the sander, it’s under all that stuff or he can’t get to it.
I gritted my teeth and we got on with taking it outside( heavy) and it has been sanded or washed( which was best) and eventually re waxed. Looks lovely.
vacuumed floor and DHwashed it while I waxed table.

washed a bag.
one LOL
Bed aired and made.
Empty and filled DW
Decluttered June magazines.

pompomseverywhere · 02/09/2022 05:06

✅ shined sink last night

✅ cleared hallway quickly

✅ tidies dining table

✅ ran one errand

Now I'm going to look what todays tasks are

pompomseverywhere · 02/09/2022 05:12

Am I right in thinking I only have to clean my front door and shake the mats today and then be nice to my husband (I mean that in itself is a challenge). But it seems like an easy day on the jobs front.
