Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 20:55

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Babysteps are here www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/

Morning all.
Less two hours sleep, not even as a solid block and dd2 is on one today, lil zoo is stressed AF over or abd close to meltdown.ds circling the sun over impending school visit and the loo is blocked.
Happy feckin tuesday

pompomseverywhere · 06/09/2022 13:33

@EspeciallyDivided we had a storm like that too in South Wales
Thanks for the links again. What I can't feet my head around is the difference between the website and the app.

I'm using the to do list on the app but it doesn't say about planning or the cutlery drawer. I wish everything was in one place so it was easier to follow

BloomingHazel · 06/09/2022 14:23

pompoms I just looked on the app real quick, it's on the home screen, but the long winded updates she puts on there. It does say daily mission on one, if you click on that it's a letter from a reader about cleaning the drawer. Below that is another one, about planning meals to save money. I hope that helps 😊

DitzyBluebells · 06/09/2022 14:46

Decided to try once again to get to grips with the Daily Focus. Thanks for the list ED.

Pompoms I've been doing FlyLady since February and I only really got to being 100% consistent with the morning and evening routines the past couple of months. I only use this thread and occasionally read around the website a little. It gets far too confusing otherwise. Don't beat yourself up for not being able to figure it all out at once.

I don't know you Zirareal but hi (and sorry if I just got your name wrong, I can't go back a page without losing my post).

It's some sort of never-seen-before hybrid isn't it Hazel and I'm going to be the guinea pig. I shall save it for next year and pray I don't go orange when I use it, I think the factor 50 SPF weather is gone now.

I had the storm yesterday too ⛈️⚡🌧️🌩️☔ and I was out in it for a while but managed not to get completely soaked.

I hope things have calmed down a bit this afternoon Zoo.

Good luck for your first day back at college Hills.

Ta-da's:

🌩️ Contact phone company to sort out a problem
🌩️ Cleared a hotspot
🌩️ Meal planning

BloomingHazel · 06/09/2022 16:05

zoo it sounds like you've already had a rough day, I hope it got better.

Ta Das so far (9am):
🌻 took DS to school
🌻 cooked DH his eggs
🌻 currently airing out the house
🌻 stripped beds
🌻 our sheets are in the washer, DS'S is next
🌻 candles lit
🌻 cheese tray sorted in the fridge, top shelf cleaned
🌻 enjoying my 2nd cup of coffee in the couch with dog

I have to go through the fridge today, I know there are things in there that need to go. I usually sort through anyway once a week (or whenever we come across something that no one will eat now), but I'm going to be wiping the shelves as I go.

Zireael · 06/09/2022 17:34

Ugh. Work always gets in the way of flying...

Ta da
Cats, dogs and DS fed
Made DS school lunch, packed bag
School drop off
Work
School pick up
Library visit for this terms reading challenge
Charged car and took DS to McDonalds for tea (Mum fail, I know Blush )

To Do
Pack swimming bag, take DS to lesson
Load of laundry
Make beds
Folding and put away dry laundry
Watch last night's House of the Dragon

WeegieGranny2022 · 06/09/2022 18:30

Recycling trolley and food waste bin were emptied today after two very whiffy weeks, and there will probably be more industrial action. So I've cleaned and cleared a spot in the freezer for double-wrapped food waste, and a tub in the fridge for similar.

Decided that I will box up the few remaining items for DS, and keep them in the boot until he has space for them. Then I will have an entire cupboard and chest of drawers to play with. That'll let me deal with the hotspot at the bottom of the stairs.

I may have mentioned it before, but I spotted empty crisp packets and clumps of dollies' hair stuffed behind the fridge. That's on tomorrow's to-do list.

pompomseverywhere · 06/09/2022 18:51

@BloomingHazel you are so right. Thank you for that!

And fly lady was right, my cutlery drawer was absolutely bogging and I've only lived in the house two months. Can't believe it!

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/09/2022 19:34

DW unloaded. loaded and running
tea cooked
pastries made - cheated cos the flavour come from the freezer and i bought the pastry but i threw it together and cooked it
some studies done

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/09/2022 19:36

ON a complete asides. Can i attend a zoom meeting on my phone. I normally do this on the laptop but likely to be out of the house as can't be in 2 places at once...

pompomseverywhere · 06/09/2022 19:42

Yes download the zoom app

EspeciallyDivided · 06/09/2022 19:49

Yes, I do zoom on my phone quite often

BloomingHazel · 06/09/2022 22:11

Some ta das:
🌻 all sheets washed, dried and back on beds
🌻 5th lol in washer
🌻 Rotated DW
🌻 fridge completely sorted out and wiped
🌻 video chatted with mum

Will soon be leaving to pick DS up from school. I'm trying to muster up some motivation to run the vacuum through the main floor before leaving, it's not working..

BloomingHazel · 07/09/2022 01:06

Ta Das:
🌻 blankets from couch in washer
🌻 stinky dog bathed
🌻 vacuumed main floor and stairs
🌻 watered outside plants

I did leave to go pick DS up from school, however, he forgot I was picking him up and had already got on the bus! 🤦‍♀️ oh well. I had to fill my Jeep up anyway, so got that done while I was out.
I just have to get dinner ready now and do a quick clean of the bathrooms

urghnotthisagain · 07/09/2022 02:14

I have never heard of flylady before but it sounds like what I need!

EspeciallyDivided · 07/09/2022 07:14

Morning all,

Today is Weds (I have confused myself by having a day off work yesterday). Day off work got swallowed up by taxiing the DCs around, DD for college - she is going to go on the train normally but it was her first full day and I’m a softy. DS for last bits of uni shopping, he starts sooner than most it seems. Then the evening taken up with taking him to football training which is too far away to drop and run so we were out for 2 hours and trying to catch him up with yet more uni related admin, he is getting there but every time we answer an email or complete a form another one pops up and he does need a bit of help.

@urghnotthisagain hello, do jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything, it is a bit confusing when you first start.

So for Flying today, here is the Flightplan which brings together all the daily tasks and reminders.

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60 - our mission today is to clear out the fridge.

For those wanting to check missions for the whole week there is a page called Sneak Peek www.flylady.net/c/sp.php

Babystep for today www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-7/ - putting your clothes out the night before as part of your routine. I like this one, but for a long time I didn’t have anywhere to put them except the floor, then about 6 months ago I had the inspired idea of putting some hanging hooks on the long end of our wardrobe, there is a gap about a foot wide between it and the bedroom door.

<eyes up @BloomingHazel cheese container>
@Zireael all fed no one dead is a classic phrase here so that's absolutely not a mum fail getting McDonald's for dinner!
@WeegieGranny2022 doll hair clumps us a bit disturbing...are you sure you haven't got a stressed pet shedding behind the fridge🤣
@HillsBesideTheSea hope zoom went ok.i repel tech and can do both zoom and teams via my phone
@DitzyBluebells glad you weren't drowned in the rain!
@pompomseverywhere 🌟for cutlery drawer cleaning<ignores mine>

Not an easy day yesterday thanks to a 6form tutor adding pressure to DD she didn't need about needing to do a minimum 3+ hours revision a night(and when pray shall she do her homework/eat/sleep as gets in at 4 and does around 2hours on homework...?)
Lil zoo day went plush HOY has agreed to drop p.e so she survived the day!
DS still sun circling.
I am past tired.think I had 4 10-20 minute naps last night.pissed off now is an understatement..me and my hormones are Not Friends.

Tada
Cats fed.
Wash on.
Wrestle new ironing board cover onto board.too big<sighs>
Iron shirt for dd2,iron packs up(it is old)..
Make lunches.
Crank up toaster for toastfest.
Referee between lil zoo and DD over covid tests(DD used them up and said nothing, leaving empty boxes.lil zoo has had a cough that's getting worse and more chesty and wanted check she wasn't infecting half her class) I told DD remove empty boxes and would acquire new test today because my yo do isn't long enough anyways.
washing to peg airers(huge pant and sock load)
Towels in.
Remind lil zoo 725 is not Time To Play Guitar(their room is right next to neighbours who works nights and doesn't sleep well on her days off)

Absolutely wrecked today, but huge to do and tomorrow's a right off visiting D's school to sign admin stuff and visit again before he starts.
Best crack on.
<Cheery wingflaps to all>

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/09/2022 07:40

Bloody auto 🥕
*Lil zoo day went okish

Happyinheels · 07/09/2022 08:38

Good morning everyone! I hope it's ok to join! I've had a read through the thread and it sounds just like what I need! I feel like I'm drowning and just can't keep on top of everything. Work is crazy at the minute. I work 7.30am - 5.30pm 4 days a week and by the time I'm done I'm done! I try to make my day off my jobs day so it doesn't impact on family time at the weekend. In that sense I know I'm lucky but equally I feel resentful that the only time I get to myself I'm doing jobs!
Today I'm going to do yesterdays suggestion about my cutlery holder! It's one of those jobs that every time I get cutlery out I think to myself that it needs a clean! And I'll do the fridge tonight!

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/09/2022 09:37

Welcome happy in heels if you have any questions shout out!

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/09/2022 09:45

Good morning.

Someone broke ALL the roads this morning so missed the hospital appointment I had. So that has been rebooked and I bought doughnuts. Promised ds a lift in as he does not need to be in until 1pm and there is only one bus into college at 7:30am. I am a softie, but warned him he will have to get the bus in the future and use the time to complete course work.

Welcome to the newbies.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 07/09/2022 10:12

Oops, getting behind on the thread again already!

Monday ta da
🐌hung out laundry
🐌staff meeting
🐌towel LOL
🐌read for a bit
🐌more work
🐌helped DH with a charity thing (graphics etc not his forte)
🐌checked arrangements (including location of new premises from later this month) for DS’ science lessons

YesTaDa
🔬got Cagletini and DS out the door on time
🔬took DS to chemistry lesson and met friend for a cold drink with Cagletini while waiting
🔬scored some application forms for shortlisting
🔬more editing of DH’s charity thing

Was mostly resting other than that, pain is high ATM.

Now have PMT added to the mix soooo not expecting great things from today, if I DLMS* it’ll be a miracle.

*For newbies, DLMS means Didn’t/Don’t Lose My Shit, which in some circumstances is a bloody miracle…

pompomseverywhere · 07/09/2022 11:58

Welcome @Happyinheels I'm new too and I've asked loads of questions and everyone is very helpful here.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 07/09/2022 12:49

Welcome happy and urgh! 😊

Just had a meeting with my boss about a project she’s handing over to me, it’s absolutely huge and a bit overwhelming. DH had to go out to an unexpected meeting but is on the way home now. Then I have lots of work to do and possibly a catch up with a friend and our DSes.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 07/09/2022 12:59

Admin stuff I need to do (quick list dump, don’t mind me!)
🎯give student loan confirmation info to OU
🎯change payment card for instant ink
🎯sort out payment for an education sub

OK heck there were definitely other things I was meant to be doing (other than work, study etc) <wracks brains>
