Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term

EspeciallyDivided · 31/08/2022 20:55

Welcome to the September Flylady Thread where we follow the Flylady routines for running our homes and lives. Links to the relevant parts of the Flylady site are posted each morning (most of the time - see naughty corner below). The Fledgling threads are long running, some have been posting for years some are new, all are welcome. Just jump in and ask if you don’t understand anything. The chat is an important part of the thread too, housework is not the be all and end all, we like to pass the time amongst friends while we get our houses in order.

This is not a strict thread but a gentle way of following the guidelines on the Flylady website without having to sign up the emails, which can become a bit overwhelming. Do as much or as litle as you can, there is no judgement here.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

Babysteps and household focus zones start again on the 1st of every month hence a new thread at the start of each month to keep things orderly. That is one of the great things about Flylady, you can jump in whenever because everything comes back round again soon. You are never behind.

Lastly we have a naughty corner - if you are struggling in any way this is a spot to join in the chat snuggled into comfy cushions with some nice drinks and nibbles until you feel ready to Fly again. So even if you have not lifted a finger around the house you can stay and chat. The thread leader may be found there from time to time putting the kettle on and plumping up the cushions.

Welcome to September.

This link www.flylady.net/c/lp.php is the Flylady launchpad. All the different parts of the system can be found here.

This is the Flighplan - the do do list which updates daily www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

Glad I’m in good company with not doing bag and car ED, although I’m not surprised you didn’t get it done in amongst your tadas and all that driving

EspeciallyDivided · 03/09/2022 10:08

Morning all, I have had a very lazy start, woke at 8, read in bed till 9, done nothing much since then apart from breakfast. DH has gone out, teens are still not much in evidence. Everyone is going out this afternoon except me so that will be nice and I will do my car and bag, promise. Also want to do some gardening if its not raining. Top priority is some of DS’s pre uni admin this morning though.

Babystep 3 - explore the Flylady website.
www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-3/

Saturday means no Flylady missions but it’s worth taking a look at the Flight Plan to see the things we should be aiming for in our daily routines, this includes 15 mins each of decluttering and exercise, but also Saturday is Family Fun Day

www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-60

On Monday we will be moving into Zone 2 - the kitchen.

Thanks for explaining power of three up! I do them a lot when I keep up with the thread as it helps me break up the day a bit.

po3.3
❗️Collect any crockery etc from upstairs
❗️Book Tesco delivery
❗️Put holiday games away

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/09/2022 10:57

FFS well Tesco won’t load the booking page so I’ll leave that for later. DH is going to the shops later anyway so he can get bits for the next couple of days.

po3.4
❗️Put dryer on, and another LOL
❗️Clean out fridge before making shopping list with DH
❗️Put away some books

Resting first though, tired and dizzy.

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/09/2022 11:07

I am having a morning. My swearing is getting practice, as is my eye rolling and sighing.

ta da
be emotional support person for people
stomp around the kitchen muttering about the fuckers that live in the house
unload, reload and put DW on to run
cooked breakfast
cut finger on glass
send the stupid can't get your hand into clean inherited glasses to the tip
move stuff so that clean up project can happen
chuck stuff into bin and recycling box that others seem incapable of doing
put bags in the clean bins waiting to go back in the cupboard
Take vitamins
start moving things to deal with the storage nightmare in my room
get dressed
internet stuffs include download the bank form for printing, completing and submitting with relevant documents
sigh at mount washmore that came off ds' floor-drobe and appeared at the bottom of the stairs
put 1st load of washing on
carry washing up down into kitchen ready for loading on the next DW run
hand blankets on line to dry
empty tumbler dryer

about to grab some pain killers, another coffee and disappear into my car to study for an hour. And i give no flying fucks if the neighbours think i am crazy. It is the only way that i am going to get some peace to get the study done without completely disappearing for hours for some peace - which believe me is super tempting but impossible with everything that needs doing. And studying in 1 and half hour bursts is going to drive me nuts, but needs must.

DitzyBluebells · 03/09/2022 12:54

Afternoon all.

The water turned out i be something to do with the boiler and the pipes which I only heard on account of the place being all silent and me being awake in the middle of the frigging night (damn you insomnia). It eventually stopped so I presume it's a normal water sound.

Not much flying going on here. I never really got the hang of the missions. Although I did de-spider ther porch last week so that's all good. Suppose I could bung the mat in the wash after I've done today's laundry.

I started reading a new book last night when I couldn't sleep. So far a lady with amnesia has returned to her old home from years ago and discovered her infant sons grave, whom she'd forgotten existed.

Aww Perry you big meanie, fancy not letting Cagletini go to the moon 🤣

I hope you manage some studying Hills and don't attract too many weird looks from the neighbours

I need some sort of inspiration. Going to start by finishing the morning routine.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 03/09/2022 14:56

😁 Ditzy indeed, the poor kid (almost 5) has had a real bee in her bonnet lately about teens/adults “get to do EVERYTHING it’s not faaaair”. Curse of being the youngest sibling I suppose! She was most aggrieved on holiday that she wasn’t old enough to do the high ropes or try skiing (DS tried the latter for the first time and loved it so much he went back the next day and now we need to look into lessons…).

Hills I hope your studying is going ok, short bursts works for me too. I confess I’m ignoring mine today as I feel I need one more day to recover from holiday before I delve back into an essay. I also LOVE the phrase “muscles are noping” and shall be stealing it as it just perfectly sums up what a flare up can be like.

Also Ditzy what’s the book called, sounds interesting! I’m reading The Accidental by Ali Smith, I’m getting through much more fiction this year.

po3.5
❗️Take lots of dry laundry upstairs and put on the bed for mammoth putting away session later
❗️Put washing in dryer and start one more regular LOL
❗️Unpack some more stuff (toiletries etc)

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/09/2022 15:13

I actually HATE short bursts of study tbh. I much prefer to disappear into the books for at least 3hrs at a time. But today is one of those days and the books have not even been opened yet

ta da
repot the house plants we are not going to discuss how many there are, but its a jungle
consider whether can hang some more baskets without breaking the pole the baskets hang from
sort 50 billion spider plant babies cuttings...
put thumb gussets in
wash plastic tubs and get out of the way
delegate washing machine usage as monday is going to be a better day for me so it is a day swap
change up and sort some of the storage hell in my room
swear about the allen key set going missing so the giant wooden box storage can be disassembled and shoved under the bed for now.
put things into the clothes tub which could access with wooden storage thingy in way
drink waaaaaay too much coffee
return all plants after watering to where they should live.
find homes for the plants which have outgrown their previous homes
set some cuttings to root
hoover dining room ready for taking the plastic storage tubs out of the fruitility in prep for next week's strip down and deep clean of the fruitility
strip dead things and empty tubs out of the fridge
ask a person if they will wind some yarn into balls from skeins for me
sort mount washmore into the different loads

still no idea what i am going to do for tea, but it will be low effort cos i am tired already and there is still a lot to do.

BloomingHazel · 03/09/2022 16:15

Phew, there's some long ta da lists on here!

YesTaDas:
🌻 loaded DW (DS already rotated it, so filled it up from dinner stuff)
🌻 DS completed home bleugh for us - LOL, vacuumed, mopped, cleaned both bathrooms
🌻 spent the evening playing pool with DH & DS (haven't done that in a long time - months!)

Ta Das so far today (just gone 9am):
☕️ 2 cups of coffee consumed
☕️ opened up the house to air it out before it gets too hot. We're still in a heat wave until next Wednesday. It's unusual!
☕️ meal and shopping lists started

To Dos:
🍁 finish shopping & meal lists
🍁 add online coupons
🍁 possibly create online pickup order for this afternoon
🍁 shower, defrost, scrub, apply self tanner
🍁 clean doors 😳 I still haven't done this!
🍁 rehang solar lights around the pool area as some fell down
🍁 clean patio area for family coming over for dinner tonight
🍁 get some of my autumn decorations up (I'll take pics of my house decor zoo but not at work, nothing really fancy at work worth taking a picture of!)
🍁 get mums package ready to be shipped (I have had it sitting by the door for months now, I've had it ready for a week, as far as everything put in there, I just need to close it up, write addresses on it and take it to the post office!)

I also need to see if mum wants to video chat at some point today, so need to make myself presentable!
Best get started! Hopefully I'll be back on later with some ta das 🤞
🍒👋 to everyone

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/09/2022 17:52

up you flatter me!
Pompoms I have been in a funk if illness and zoolets issues zapping precious energy and I have given myself a royal kick up the pants this weekend in bid to create a calmer more organised home as the chairs us making me much worse.im sure to burn down soon!

Tada.
Bot dungeon is done- all drawers empty and clothes refolded.huge cull if books and dvds-reallyproud of him as been clinging how to train dragon books for years but no longer reading(he's 16).we now can get it all on the shelves if his case neatly, nothing precariously stacked on top!

5lol done, but still the mountain grows!
Another binbag recycling out,4carrier bags rubbish...

EspeciallyDivided · 03/09/2022 20:55

Some good lists today!

<drum roll> I have cleaned out my car and both my bags. I have two bags, a big one that I only tend to take to work (it can fit my packed lunch and bullet journal in) and a small cross body one that I use for eg shopping.

I have also done 4 loads of laundry, the last lot is staying on the line overnight, the rest are waiting to go back upstairs.

Spent ages doing some stuff on DS’s Ipad (needed to change it to a different Apple id, long story).

An hour or two of gardening - most of the flowers are finished by mid summer and the garden looks very dull after being full of colour in late spring so I bought a few late flowering ones and also bought a few small self seeded ones home from the allotment to plant out (borage and Cosmos).

Popped to supermarket and met a friend I hadn’t seen for a few years and had a natter.

Took DS to the hockey club to pick up his new kit.

Listened to football on the radio all afternoon. My team won. Happy Days.

Made dinner, just eaten. Someone else can clear up.

OP posts:
BloomingHazel · 03/09/2022 20:58

Ta Das:
🌻 meal planning done
🌻 online coupons clipped
🌻 grocery pickup order placed
🌻 showered, defrosted, scrubbed & self tanner applied
🌻 video chat with mum done
🌻 got mums package ready to be shipped, and in the Jeep
🌻 doors cleaned (mostly just the glass)
🌻 mirrors cleaned
🌻 dough rising for rolls, I helped DS make them but he did the majority

I have an hour before grocery pickup, there's still more to do before I leave

DitzyBluebells · 04/09/2022 02:08

Today went ok in the end once I'd started.

Ta-da's:

🍂 Had a big tidy up of bedroom and living room.
🍂 Spent an hour this afternoon at a local beauty spot watching a grebe diving. Very peaceful.
🍂 Worked out how to blank things out on pics.
🍂 Finished my latest project. Pic attached of it half done so you can see before and after. I sized down when I bought it but it was still far too enormous so I decided to alter it. It's not 100% symmetrical now finished because I didn't bother making a pattern (too impatient) but it's good enough.

Hazel is there anything I need to know about self tanner? I've never done it before but I bought some by mistake because I didn't look past the SPF 50 and thought it was regular sunblock. I'll use it for the sake of not wasting it but I'm worried about looking orange or streaky.

Congratulations for your team winning ED 🏅🏆

Glad you found the lanyard Zoo

Hope the Allen keys turn up Hills

Perry the book is called The Angel Tree by Lucinda Riley. I shall keep you updated. I've read a few others from her and liked them. I especially liked The Midnight Rose. I love reading and have a huge book pile to work my way through and declutter after.

Following Flylady into September - Fledglings starting a new term
pompomseverywhere · 04/09/2022 04:37

@DitzyBluebells I love reading too and I'm trying to make sure I read even it's only ten minutes everyday.

✅ sink

✅ lovely day with kids

✅ polished sink

✅ LOL

✅ house looking tidy generally

❌ keep forgetting the bag and car

Now to check todays plan

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/09/2022 05:03

ditzyyou made shirt from scratch?(sewings not my forte)
Pompoms how old are your children?

BloomingHazel · 04/09/2022 05:05

Ditzy self tanner does require proper prep. So shower, shave (if you want to, I've done it without shaving and regretted it), body scrub (most important step). After your shower, before you apply self tanner, put on regular lotion on dry areas: elbows, knees, and anywhere you want a thin coat, like the top of your feet, inside your wrists.
If you have gloves for applying self tanner, I highly recommend them, otherwise, have extra regular lotion on your hands. Make sure to apply in circular motion, paying careful attention everywhere. Scrub your hands really well afterwards (focusing on the palms). Before I got the gloves I could tell I had self tanner on my hands, not sure if anyone else noticed.

As far as being orange goes, I think that'll depend on your skin tone to begin with, the shade you got, and the type. I use b.tan brand, "Too tan to give a damn" and it's the best one I've used. That one has specific instructions though, as it has a guide colour and develops after rinsing, which is done several hours after applying. If in doubt, try it on your stomach or other inconspicuous area and see how you like it.

BloomingHazel · 04/09/2022 05:21

I should add the gloves are specific to applying self tanner, not just any old gloves. They are like big mittens that are soft, but stop the self tanner from seeping through.

I have more ta das:
🌻 rolls risen, DS rolled into rolls, they got baked
🌻 groceries picked up and put away
🌻 caprese salad made
🌻 ranch dressing made
🌻 cheese shredded
🌻 creamy mushroom sauce made for pork chops
🌻 outside table and benches wiped down
🌻 pitcher of mojito made
🌻 DW rotated x2

Had a good night with family. It was an early night in the end (they left fairly early, earlier than normal anyway). After dinner I got in the pool with DS, it was a hot day today and it felt good. I'm currently drinking a mojito relaxing on the couch with DH.

We are going swimming tomorrow, to natural hot springs. We're going to be out all day, so it'll be long, but nice. I'm on my 4 day weekend as we're closed Monday for Labor Day, which is also DS'S birthday - he'll be 13!

pompomseverywhere · 04/09/2022 08:01

@Stilllivinginazoo 22, 4 and 18 months. No that's not a typo!

@BloomingHazel are you not in the UK?

I've just discovered the detailed cleaning section which is disappointing. I thought everything was going to be date nights and cleaning out handbags 😉

Then I found a bit that said about daily hoovering but I can't find it again now and I was wondering if there's a schedule for that that I'm missing?

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/09/2022 08:12

pompom mine are 27,18,16 and 14😁
Hazel is in u.s

Couldn't sleep so got up and started cleaning.
Tada.
Cleaned top blanket box in my room(moving and get car hair off everything)
Clean floor that side of the bed.
Wipe over single wardrobe that's been on the landing 6months + and move things to give it a home in my room.
(Discover it's full coat hangers, lil zoo bedding, dressing gown and some clothes no one know who they belonged to<must've been one of the girls, but it has been a while>🤣🤣🤣🤣)
Change laces in dd2 trainers- she cannot do this for all the tea in China!
Sort 3 BRC.
Pay online bills.
Order emergency joggers for lil zoo for p.e(coming tom,p.e on Tuesday,so cutting it fine!haha)
One load wash and dry, another hung up,thirds just going in<still drowning in it>

Well must crack on.need pop one shop opens early in Sunday,go nature reserve and collect my pictures I ordered then head ASDA before more tidying up!

EspeciallyDivided · 04/09/2022 08:29

I'm not sure about daily hoovering, hoovering does crop up in Home Blessing hour which is allocated to Mondays (also known as Home Bleugh on this thread).

Sunday is Renew Your Spirit day - do something for yourself.

The shirt is amazing. I’m hopeless at crafty things, I can draw (something I don’t make enough time for!) but I don’t Make Stuff.

Achy as hell today, and didn’t manage the lie in I’d planned, although at least I didn’t wake up as early as yesterday. Also feeling A Bit Stupid as I misread the tesco website and DH got up for a delivery this morning that is actually booked for tomorrow 😳😳😳

Today my meds need collecting and we may need a top up shop due to my error. I also really need a notebook as I’m back to work tomorrow and I’m determined to keep all my meeting/planning notes in one place this year!

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 04/09/2022 09:53

Right I’m clearly not getting back to sleep, DD1 is asleep in the living room (she was very anxious about being unwell - close contact was recently hospitalised with viral meningitis - so DH slept downstairs with her) so I may as well try and do other useful things <sigh> I really need to find some earphones so I can just watch Netflix instead! But I suppose I should do stuff what with it being the start of term tomorrow.

po3.1
❗️Catch up on thread!
❗️Delete a load of stuff off my wish list as it’s no longer relevant, and also order a present as it is on sale
❗️Get some more dry laundry from downstairs and sort it

pompomseverywhere · 04/09/2022 11:57

Well I thought I'd have a bath and read my book but the baby has got in with me so not renewing my spirit there

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/09/2022 12:31

God, I do not miss those days Pompom
ds is curled up in bed watching something still, probably about to head to sleep or god knows what in prep for getting his sleep cycle back on track for college next week
I slept terribly last night, not til 3 and poor quality even if it was nearly 7hrs.
The house is hot and stuffy and i am craving autumn temps already but with sunshine so i can still do all the stuffs
I need to get so much study done and honestly i have a head ache and don't want to. I am overwhelmed again as being pulled in too many directions. So I am about to jump in a quick bath to get cleaned up and head out in the car til this evening with some munchie supplies and plenty of fluids and go find a hill to sit on for the next 8hrs. I am 3 days behind where i want to be and know that i am not going to get as much done tomo as I would like because it is strip out and deep clean EVERYTHING - even under the fridge and freezer day 1. Tuesday is day 2 of that. And then thursday is reassemble everything. <sigh> i am tired just thing about it. So for now escape from the the overwhelming to do list is going to have to be the plan.

BloomingHazel · 04/09/2022 15:36

pompom, zoo is right! I'm living in Idaho, USA, so 7 hours behind you lot in the UK. I am originally from the UK, was born and raised there. My family is still there. I love your reaction to the detailed cleaning section 🤣 it's been a while since I've visited the site (I have the app and look at it every once in a while) there is a section for kids and holiday prep (Christmas prep).

zoo what's your plan for the mysterious clothing? Anything worth keeping in there?

Perry I hope her close contact is okay! That's scary 😨

hills enjoy the hills, even though studying is the plan.

I've had my 1st cup of coffee, need to make my 2nd now, then I have to get ready for a day of driving and swimming! It's about an hour and a half away from us.
No flying here today, other than renewing spirits!
