@IncessantNameChanger definitely harder if you've not moved in a while! We've been here 6 years and until I started this on going declutter last year, not a great deal has ever left but tonnes has come in!

Binned two broken coathangers.
For donation - one man's shirt.

SarahJessicaParker1 · 03/01/2022 18:24

Decided to donate a faux leather mini skirt and a jumper dress. Bagging up tonight and dropping off tomorrow!

LivingInaBuildingSite · 03/01/2022 19:20

We haven’t moved in 17 years, definitely stuff here that would’ve gone if we had to pay to move it!

Went through a stack of charging cables, 9 for the tip.
And others sorted into Apple vs others.

And a Christmas homemade bracelet in the bin, so that’s 10 today.

Didn’t count exactly the Christmas bits that went yesterday but will go with approx 10.

So if I try and keep count, that’s 20 items so far.

SuperDiaperBaby · 03/01/2022 19:58

Tree down and Christmas decorations sorted and decluttered for the first time in many years. Got rid of more than one sentimental item and managed to go from three packing boxes to two which is progress.

I am finding that selecting one area and concentrating on that each day is good for me so going to stick with it tomorrow if I can. Delighted to get rid of more than one item each day but even if it reduces down to one a day I will still be pleased with the start I have made.

Dinosauraddict · 03/01/2022 20:06

DH didn't manage to get the storage bin I requested.Sad However I did de-clutter all the apps on my phone today - deleted all the ones I don't use and reordered the others so they're in better folders and categories. I also did day 1 of couch 2 5k as I'm trying to sort out all areas of my life!

seperatedmum · 03/01/2022 20:26

fridge and car quick clear out
out of date protein stuff out
top of microwave cleared

stealthninjamum · 03/01/2022 21:09

incessant I would love to have them empty my house but I could never be on TV so I guess I’ll stick to this slow approach.

I have started to put the decorations and trees away, will finish tomorrow.

Anyway I found another four things to go - fabric advent calendar, two painted cardboard boxes that dd2 had been hoarding and a jenga game.

Items decluttered 2022: 7

LivingInaBuildingSite · 03/01/2022 21:17

I have semi joked about how maybe someone could burn my house down (with no injuries obvs) just to get rid of everything in one go 😂

That was a few years ago when all the DC were into loads of plastic toys. Things have improved since then. A bit.

One doddery kitchen chair into the builders skip.
One stained teatowel added to fabric recycling.

22 so far in 22!

Pineappleapple · 03/01/2022 21:22

Trying to post each day to keep me going! Got rid of a few Christmas bits as I was putting things away. A candle I like but don't love. A Santa hat has gone in fabric recycling as I didn't think a charity shop would appreciate it this time of year! I have packed up Christmas decs and there does seem more space than usual in the boxes, less juggling to fit everything in. I got rid of a few bits I didn't love pre-Christmas too.
Realised I have kept a box and parts for.a now broken gadget so that's gone. A few more gift bags gone too. The bin is going to be very full!

Debsdonein · 03/01/2022 21:58

Tree down and put away with the decorations. All other decorations have been given to the local women's refuge. Decided this year I will only put a tree up. No need for extra clutter.
Loving this thread.

seperatedmum · 03/01/2022 22:00

also a food cupboard de-randomised

FlibbertyGibbitt · 03/01/2022 22:02

I’m joining if I may please 🥳

stealthninjamum · 03/01/2022 22:21

I’m being so productive, I’ve got rid of another 7 items so the yearly total is 14.

I have also found my stash of playmobil advent calendars. It looks like we had at least 5 as I kept the packaging and instructions. I organised three sets Into plastic bags so they can go straight to the charity shop. The others will be in a mess with the rest of the playmobil. It’s my ambition one day to organise them all before I get rid of them so it’s nice to know that three can go with minimal effort. Usually dc say what can go but I’m just going to get rid of them.

sleepyhoglet · 04/01/2022 00:03

Anyone got a particularly tricky area- for me it's the garage! Although today I found a dog cage that the previous owners left and have sold it for £20

LittleTwiglet · 04/01/2022 08:33

Going on Sort Your Life Out would definitely help me, but I'm too shy to go on TV for everyone to see and record haha!

Not a lot will happen here today as its just me and my little terrors now DH has gone back to work. I have to find my routine again now it's not 2 against 2.

Mommabear20 · 04/01/2022 09:43

I unexpectedly have DH home today (he thought he was at work today till he got there and they all looked confused 😂) so we're going out for lunch and then I've got a list of jobs to get him to help me with this afternoon while DC are napping! 😂 if he starts getting under foot or grumpy I'll just send him out to walk the dogs 😂

2 large bags as well as a bumbo seat we were given for DS (I refuse to use it due to the safety risks with them) going to the garage today on our way out for lunch which will make lots of space near the front door.

I've decided I don't want the day to be a wash out, so I need advice with airing cupboards... mine is completely packed full of towels, bedding, blankets, etc. I have no clue how many of each to ideally have. It also doesn't help I only have the one really deep shelf due to have 2 massive water tanks at the top and bottom - downside to a very old cottage.
What does everyone else doing with their airing cupboards?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 04/01/2022 11:22

Today's first job was to sort out the medicine box.
So much out of date medicine!
Out with dd for lunch but may tackle the bathroom cupboard or the baking cupboard this pm. Haven't decided which yet!

Bigoldhag · 04/01/2022 12:31

Back to work today, so slightly more limited on declutter time. But last night/today I have:

*Sold two more Vinted items so 3 packages out lunchtime.
*Got rid of two phones - iphone 4 and 5. Iphone 6 still in ok condition so am going to chuck it on ebay for £15-20.
*decluttered under the bathroom sink - got rid of a handful of empty packaging and two unused deoderants and a hair product are in the food bank bag.

Got bins going out tonight so want to get whatver I can rubbish wise out tonight and make use of it.

I walked into my spare room earlier - was like a new room I had so much space!

DooDahDah · 04/01/2022 13:09

Partly decluttered bedside drawers and side of bed last night. Chucked a carrier bag full of old receipts, empty bottles, and half used lotions an potions that I don't like, all years old old.

Today I want to tackle the bookcase in the kids room. I have young neices and nephews who the books would be more suitable for....everything is so disorganised and messy!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/01/2022 14:05

This morning I've chucked a box of magazines in the recycling but had to take the plastic wrap off each one so it took a while, still 2 more boxes to go :/

I've some old bedding and muslins for textiles recycling but thats not left the house yet.

CatrinVennastin · 04/01/2022 14:45

@LittleTwiglet I don’t have an airing cupboard (jealous of you having one!). I use an old blanket box that came from DH’s mums for bedding. I keep a set on each bed then a change for each bed. I know some people only keep one set per bed but I would struggle with this as I don’t have a tumble dryer.

The main difference for me has been folding the bed linen into sets so it all fits in the box. I used too just chuck everything in then could never find the matching sets.

We have three doubles and a single in our house so it’s a lot of bedding but I definitely prefer to have a change of bedding handy in case of sickly children.

stealthninjamum · 04/01/2022 15:07

sleepyhoglet my bad area is my Room of Doom. It used to be full of toddler furniture, toys and papers. I’ve got rid of the furniture, toys and half the papers but it still has papers and lots of schoolwork and artwork of dcs. It’ll still take hours to declutter.

I don’t really have much clutter, it mainly belongs to stbexh and dc. Stbexh was a hoarder and I have a feeling he doesn’t want to divorce me because he’d have to declutter! He doesn’t know that I’m intending to divorce him this year and get him to remove his clutter.

My airing cupboard is my favourite part of the house. It has neatly arranged bedding and towels.

Three items decluttered today. One Christmas decoration and two coasters.

2022 total so far:17

LittleTwiglet · 04/01/2022 15:13

@CatrinVennastin I was thinking about putting the individual bedding in its respective bedroom, but then I worry about the clutter spreading in there sigh I've culled back our bedding to 2 sets, but DC have mountains as I'm always worried I'll need the spares incase of accidents.
Towels are a nightmare too, if I had a tumble dryer it could make sense to just gave a couple, but as it stands I dread to think how many sit unused in there.
