@bigoldhag my sister got me this bullet journal book last year and I love it for planning. It's got activities and diary pages etc which really help prompt you with what areas of your life to look at. I really recommend it:

Bullet Journal

@VikingNorthUtsire - when the charity shops were all shut/not taking donations I found the clothes banks (big metal ones in supermarket car parks) great as you know it's all still being reused/going to charity - around here they tend to be Salvation Army. Perhaps something like that may help? As well as clothes ours takes shoes, bags, belts/accessories etc as well as towels and bedding!

This morning I have gone through one of my sentimental bags and got rid of 7 items from DS' baby clothing bag of stuff I initially loved and kept. I've also just sent DH out for an extra storage box to match one I bought for the bathroom the other day - the first one was for my stuff, now I'm going to try and tackle his!

TruffleNoir · 03/01/2022 10:39

Oh for goodness sake when I was looking at my bullet journal on Amazon to link it I've ended ul buying the hardback book Tap to Tidy by Stacey Solomon because it was reduced to £6 odd Blush

LemonViolet · 03/01/2022 10:41

Our tip has timed slots that you have to book at least 24 hours in advance - but that’s great for me, because since that came in, every time I booked a slot I kept the appointment. Good motivational tool. Our closest tip is all recycle/reuse only as well which is good.

VikingNorthUtsire · 03/01/2022 10:49

Thanks @Dinosauraddict that's definitely a good tip, especially as those big bins tend to be in car parks whereas the shops near us don't have parking so only good for smaller drop offs.

Mommabear20 · 03/01/2022 10:49

No outs so far today but have had a few ins, don't feel bad about them though as they're clothes for DC in the next size up so I know they now both have everything they need for that size taking DD to next summer and DS to this summer 😁

My task for this afternoon is to go through all the clothes that they've it grown in the last few months and decide what I want to keep and what's going into the car boot pile!

The unfuck your habitat app told me to shred paper for ten minutes. I managed nine minutes before my much loved shredder stopped working!

I also found 3 books to go.

I might keep a running total of things gone.

So 3 so far!

pollyannaperspective · 03/01/2022 11:57

Last of the Christmas clothes tried on, put away and 'returns' packaging binned.
Next - de-trimmed tree out.
Aim for Room of Doom - DC memory box sorted and put away and one cupboard shelf emptied. Will report back!

Bigoldhag · 03/01/2022 12:15

@TruffleNoir thank you!

Christmas decs up the attic.

Today So far I have decluttered:

*Two baking sheets (replaced, but the others are more compact so hopefully a space saver!)
*One decorative tray that gathered dust and got discoloured in the sun.
*One pair of underwear
*Two mugs

Today I am continuing in the kitchen and Also want to review my dog’s toys. Sounds mad but she has LOADS. She is also really spoilt by other people (yes, I really am talking about a dog!) but she only plays with about 30% of them. So they must go!

seperatedmum · 03/01/2022 12:19

stealthninjamum be aware that shredders sometimes overheat and can recover. I've had this too but my current shredders actually has this printed on it

IncessantNameChanger · 03/01/2022 12:46

I still haven't started with the kids underfoot. They go back tomorrow. I need to make up about 90 items off the bat for the minimalist thread!
I'm going to do before and after photos as they really do help.

I might do some more of the kids clothes first. My eldest is 18 and him growing up is really making me tearful and broody. But he isnt off to uni as tacking a year out after his A levels. I need to sort my health out too really

TruffleNoir · 03/01/2022 13:14

Yes I had to do my shredding in stages @stealthninjamum because of it stopping when overheating. A wee break and it should start working again.

All my Decs are down and up in the attic! It's DD1's birthday end of Jan so hoping for a toy cull. Think I'll try Facebook / gumtree first. If you're posting things how do you know what to do for postage? 😂

ememem84 · 03/01/2022 13:28

I take my shredding into work and shove it into my desk drawer then when there’s a quiet moment slip it into the big shredding bin.

Have spent some time unsubscribing from emails.

stealthninjamum · 03/01/2022 14:26

Thanks, it’s about my fifth shredder but has cooled down and is shredding again. Some of the stuff I shredded was from 1999 so I’m very pleased. I do constantly have a mountain of shredding to do so I probably should do it every day.

londonmummy1966 · 03/01/2022 14:34

Just leaving this on here in case anyone fancies being a TV star....

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/01/2022 14:34

Today I've given away some new and lightly used makeup via our wastesaving group, built a compost bin and done a bin of shredding, and sold 2 items on Vinted.

I may start on sorting and recycling magazines later today.

Nordicmom · 03/01/2022 14:50

And we bought the car for DS today so that’s a big in but planned and we only had one other big car before . I do hope he appreciates it !
Feeling useless today but maybe I’ll get something done eventually , I’ve yet to eat my lunch. DH will take the charity shop stuff so I can start then to fill the 4 boxes up again . Already have a few things lined up in the attic . I have a few empty plastic boxes left so I could unpack more cardboard ones and there’s kids clothes .

Nordicmom · 03/01/2022 14:51

Also apparently food bank collection is back at Waitrose so DH will take those items there next time …

DooDahDah · 03/01/2022 15:52

De-Christmasing the house today.

Just sent DH the tip with the Christmas tree 🎄 and eight black bags!

We had 20 people for Christmas day so a lot of that is packaging (everyone exchanged gifts here!)

But I'm not counting that!

Some old decorations went, and a sample kitchen door, from when we were designing our new kitchen 2 years ago! I wouldn't mind but it wasn't even a spare of the style we went with in the end!

I'm normally scrabbling to take the Dec's down on the 6th and shove them in boxes, so it's nice to take a more methodical approach this year.

Coffee break over....up and at 'em....

Mommabear20 · 03/01/2022 16:36

Have managed to fill a large primark carrier with clothes to go as well as a reusable shopping bag of random bits from our bedroom! Hoping to get that out of the house tomorrow 🤞🤞

OP posts:
ememem84 · 03/01/2022 16:36

Christmas stuff in the loft so that’s a lot of space cleared.

Also sorted the recycling and completely filled the wheelie bin. Bin day tomorrow. Yay.

Bigoldhag · 03/01/2022 16:59

Had a really good day so far in the house!

One more item from Vinted has sold, and couple more listed. Managed to sort them out into one single drawer and one basket on a shelf, keeping neat and tidy come packaging time.

Emptied some food cupboards and gotten a few bits in the foodbank bag.

I’ve sorted my spare room for the most part, including a hugeeee cupboard that houses virtually all my bits and bobs, made myself an entire shelf free!

I now have three bags and one plastic storage box full for the charity shop. I hope to start offloading them next weekend and the week after.

Some things I put in the donation pile today:

*photoframes
*kilner jars
*dress
*throw blanket

  • small amount of craft stuff *new in packaging teatowel *planter pot

Stuff that has ended up in the bin/recycling today:

  • a dozen dog toys and associated bits
  • some old paperwork
  • a decorative storage box thats worse for wear *offcuts of vinyl/fablon that is way past its best and the huge postage tube it came in *stained top
londonmummy1966 · 03/01/2022 17:05

Well done everyone!

I didn't manage a huge amount today but I did sort out a small set of shelves in my bedroom. Most of its contents went in the bin with a few items in the charity shop bag. I also took the remains of the Christmas crackers from the dining room, cut them up into heart shaped gift tags for next years presents and then put the competed gift tags in a freezer bag in the box with the Christmas cards. The dining room looks a lot tidier after that.

Someone mentioned that if you get the H&M app then they give you a money off voucher for each bag of clothes you take in to their charity point. Does anyone know if this is true? I might give that a go as I declutter my wardrobe as my DDs are quite keen on H&M.

IncessantNameChanger · 03/01/2022 17:45

Oh I would love to do the sort your life out things but I would die of embarrassment! My eldest would be mortified and I nor sure I'm ready for the world to know I'm a hoarder, or why I hoard.

I think it's much harder if you have not moved in a long time.

SarahJessicaParker1 · 03/01/2022 17:52

Hello!

I'd like to do this.

I'm doing a no buy / low buy year for myself and the household this year (still buying occasional things for dcs as they are very little).

A declutter on top of that would have me on my way to my dream, clutter free home by 2023!

We got rid of one large item last week, (our old, broken bed), but obviously that had to be replaced!

Thinking of selling some clothes on Vinted, or sending to charity. Will do that I think, spurred on by the thread!
