Thanks dead living girl! Free Postage makes it a good deal!

WildPoinsettia · 03/04/2022 02:10

One more magazine read and recycled

WildPoinsettia · 03/04/2022 11:21

One novel finished and added to the donations pile.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/04/2022 11:52

I found a box I assumed was full of junk to sort was actually full of books, which I've put on the shelf. It's going to be a day of sorting through various piles of stuff on flat surfaces I think to try and get some order before the school holidays start.

Vinorosso74 · 03/04/2022 12:26

Slightly frustrating as we have stuff ready for a dump run but can't book a time slot. It isn't closed, you still have to book a time slot, yet our dump isn't on the booking list and of course the phone number is only Monday to Friday. Grrrrr.
I'm going away tomorrow so it will have to wait.

Pineappleapple · 04/04/2022 20:34

Vino Rosso that is annoying! It's nice for things to leave the house when you've made the decision.
I have a charity shop bag that is filling up so slowly it's still not worth the trip weeks later. I was filling a big bag each week.
A few bits gone today though, a cardigan and a plate in charity shop bag, broken hair clip in the bin, and some old letters gone through, kept most but now I know how many I am keeping from that little pile I can find somewhere to put them.

londonmummy1966 · 04/04/2022 21:56

I managed to declutter one of the baskets in a kitchen cupboard whilst cooking supper today. it was the one for making cakes with DC so hasn't really been used for a while. I managed to get rid of a load of crumpled paper baking cases and some manky candles. I still have 2 unopened packs of birthday candles and have sorted the barely lit ones into 3 bags by size. DH is 60 next month so I reckon I can smother his cake with at least 40 candles now. Not a big out but they all count!

WildPoinsettia · 04/04/2022 22:40

Looking around my home today I've realised that despite my organising lately there's not a single room which doesn't have clutter in it. I've really stagnated with decluttering. I'm slowly filling a charity bag with clothes which turn out to be uncomfortable or too small, that's an ongoing thing as-and-when. Some is hoarding that needs to be dispatched to recycling or landfill, but first I have to mentally let go of it and then wait for space in the bin. Most though is stuff that needs using up first, like multiple bottles of shampoo or piles of books I haven't read yet. Some still needs to be organised better though, like having stuff on a shelf or in a box instead of in a pile on the floor. I've made loads of progress but I've run out of all the big and easy things to declutter. I guess that's a good thing really.

joined Olio yesterday morning didn't realize you had to pay listed 2 items; pick up is arranged for the pop up cot already so if the bed curtains ( not sentimental) don't go I'll just put it in a charity bag. put 2 library books back through the letterbox (they're having renovations) then didn't get anything non-consumable with the big shop. ooh saw a book/ board games 'library' in a bus shelter while cycling on weekend. I've given loads of outing clues there but I don't think anyone knows me going by your own clues lol

londonmummy1966 · 05/04/2022 18:32

Got an email from Thrift+ today to say that they are hiking their rates massively with 7 days notice

• Previously:
o Fees were calculated as 33% of the final sale price
o Note: £5 minimum fee

• In the future:
o Listing Fee @ £3.75
o Selling Fee @ 35%
o Note: You will only earn Thrift+ Credits on item sales over £7.50

Really gutted about this as they've only just put some of my stuff up online and although it is selling well it takes time. Had I known that they were going to impose these fees then I'd have sold on ebay....

LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/04/2022 20:00

That's really annoying, Ebay also put their fees up :(

WildPoinsettia · 05/04/2022 20:06

I sold during lockdown when people couldn't get to the shops because everything was closed. But I'm donation or recycling or landfill now. Selling became too much hassle.

seperatedmum · 05/04/2022 22:19

a bags worth of eldest's clothes cleared out, most can go to charity unless too sweaty. a bag each of recycling and rubbish removed from DS and DD's rooms. plenty of hovering done

SydneyCarton · 06/04/2022 14:53

Keep falling off this thread, but we finally managed to get rid of our Christmas tree after having it sitting on the balcony for three months like white trash Hmm. Also two broken air beds, some cardboard boxes and a bag of old cushions and toys which were too knackered to go to charity (including the creepy doll which DP will insist the girls still play with and which I put right at the bottom of the bag in case he saw it and tried to take it out Grin).

Two birthdays this month so braced for more stuff coming in, though DD2 has a party to go to on Friday and I may be able to regift some unopened play-doh as a present. Thank goodness we don't do Easter gifts, just chocolate which will naturally disappear!

londonmummy1966 · 07/04/2022 00:15

Some more ebay sales all packed up to go tomorrow. There are a few "cupboards of doom" around that I ought to tackle. I might try the one in the kitchen that has all the odd condiments etc in that I will never use but that people keep giving me....

seperatedmum · 07/04/2022 08:07

re-jigged a kitchen cupboard, some random/lids etc went really it should all go somewhere drier but there baint one 😕had to throw some lunch bag/packs out yesterday after they got damp very quickly. really had enough of this horrible house moving tied up with divorce

You don't have to pay!
londonmummy1966 · 07/04/2022 17:25

I tackled a set of storage drawers today that were full of old fabric. A few pieces put in the sewing cupboard, put together a big bundle of the better pieces, photgraphed it and listed on ebay and a bin bag set aside for textile recycling bin next time I'm walking past it. Feeling pleased with myself and hopefully the bundle will spark joy in a fellow sewer....

seperatedmum · 07/04/2022 18:25

@SmellyOldOwls then I'm a fool! how don't you have to pay? I downloaded it and listed 2 things as said so maybe if I just browsed?

seperatedmum · 08/04/2022 07:54

might've decluttered a whole 7seater yesterday 🥴 it's undrivable had a whole day of excitement trying to start it may cost too much to repair 😶

TruffleNoir · 08/04/2022 15:17

Aww @seperatedmum that's such a shame about your car.

I bought a storage cube with a lid a couple of months ago and it was one of those "let's get organises with storage" spur of the moment purchases. I think it looks great but have no idea what to put in it 😂 any suggestions??

londonmummy1966 · 08/04/2022 18:52

@TruffleNoir - your private chocolate stash obviously (and maybe emergency gin) Grin

I've decided to try and go back to how I started out on the last thread and just try and get one thing out a day. SO I walked half a dozen paperbacks round to the local community library book box. I may then have blown my decluttering credentials by doing my monthly LIDL shop but I can't resist stocking up on things like pesto and anchovies that are so much cheaper than at Sainsburys.

londonmummy1966 · 08/04/2022 18:53

@Mommabear20 I think that this thread is getting quite full - would you like to start a new one? I'm happy to do so but don't want to tread on your toes...

Gassylady · 09/04/2022 12:49

Agree this is getting close to full. Could whoever does start the next thread please include the links to useful ways of recycling as stealthninjamum used to in her second post. A great resource for new joiners and a useful reminder for us plodders 🙄🤣🤦‍♀️
