Dinosauraddict , he occasionally is …

8stone13 · 07/02/2022 09:25

@ememem84 "old minging baking pans" 😆

I've kept seeing Olio mentioned, looked it up last night & I wish I'd done so before I binned some Kallo Organic stock cubes that were past their best before. Might stick the rest on there...

Equimum · 07/02/2022 13:28

Can I join in please? I got rid of 3 big bags of kids stuff to charity last week, and sold a few sets of toys. I also took a bag or broken/ useless bits to the tip. Tomorrow, I plan to tackle the playroom and sort through the boxes in there.

Pineappleapple · 07/02/2022 13:54

Equimum welcome!
Emenem that sounds good!!

8stone13 · 07/02/2022 14:59

Welcome @Equimum

5 new internal doors have arrived, but 5 old ones have been listed as freebies! I hope someone collects so I don't have to go down the skip route...

Another item listed for sale too & some other stuff sorted to be returned to family when we visit soon 👍🏻

8stone13 · 07/02/2022 15:14

Is Freecycle the same as Freegle & Trash Nothing these days?!

FurBabyMum02 · 07/02/2022 20:13

Nothing decluttered at my own house today as been busy with housework/ds who has now learned to stand and become very clingy/mum must be a permanent climbing frame 😁 but I have inspired my mum to declutter and she called asking about some childhood stuff of mine as she wants to decorate my old room so am I technically decluttering 2 houses now?

londonmummy1966 · 07/02/2022 22:44

Not a lot done in the last couple of days. I did send DC1 back to college with half a dozen tupperware boxes as her flatmates don't clean the fridge very well. Five ebay parcels out and I managed to list quite a lot more stuff so hopefully some will sell.

WildPoinsettia · 07/02/2022 22:54

Equimum and LondonMummy congrats on the sales.

Furbaby since you never took your childhood with you when you moved out, and presumably haven't missed it all this time, you could just tell your mum to get rid?

8stone13 fingers crossed for you that someone wants those doors.

Nothing decluttered here because I'm working my way through books and magazines so it's slow going. I can't read them all in a day!

EllieQ · 07/02/2022 23:24

I assume Freecycke, Freegle etc are all very similar @8stone13 but I haven’t used any of them recently.

A tiny bit of progress for me today. I found homes for the last of DD’s presents (craft kits), and made some progress on sorting through all the random toys/ stuff she leaves on the coffee table in the living room. Yesterday I’d cleared the table and put everything in a box, and today after school we spent five minutes finding homes for a few things, while a few other things went in the bin (bits of paper, mostly). Five minutes is about her limit, so we’ll do more through the week.

I think she struggles to sort through her random ‘treasures’ without being helped, and I admit that DH and I don’t always make her tidy up before bed so the combination of toys and random stuff (including sticks and stones) just builds up. I really want to keep on top of this from now on.

Pineappleapple · 08/02/2022 04:51

I did ok in the end yesterday. I'd given OH a small pile of things to look through and he discarded a pair of gloves and a couple of other things. I still have loads of hangers so started a bag of the rubbish ones.
Hmm maybe I didn't do that much after all, I can't think of anything else!! Oh, I posted back a faulty item. Think I feel a sense of achievement as some small steps are now starting to add up and my shoe cupboard looks do much better. Now there's less in it I was able to tidy it up.

Alrightqueenie · 08/02/2022 05:02

I've donated 3 boxes of books to the local library and another box to the local shelter refuge. One entire bookshelf of paperwork has been either shredded, recycled or filed. Just got to do the same for another four bookshelves and the living room is done.

I'm planning on decluttering the kitchen and bathroom cupboards next. I feel mentally lighter as I can see its making a difference. Dh is the hoarder and he has finally acknowledged that his addiction to collect is causing problems.

ememem84 · 08/02/2022 06:41

4 coasters going to a colleague today and a bunch of notebooks going into the office.

SydneyCarton · 08/02/2022 11:44

Started putting together a bag for textile recycling including one of DD1's old coats - we let her keep the two new ones MiL bought her, but she has to get rid of two so there's no extra things coming in. Also put an age 2-3 coat of DS's in as he's 3.5 now so it doesn't fit, and a paid of Primark harem pants which DD1 kindly informed me at the weekend that she could see my underwear through Hmm.

Also have some vitamins which the children have decided they don't like the taste of, so will see if MiL wants them for SiL's DDs, otherwise I'll stick them on Olio

8stone13 · 08/02/2022 12:28

Thanks @WildPoinsettia No takers as yet but it's early!

@FurBabyMum02 I completed on my first tiny flat aged 27 at 5pm on a Friday back in 2003 & at 9am the next morning my mother was on the doorstep with everything she had stored for me including my A level notes! So I empathise with feeling like you're decluttering two houses (my A Level notes are still in my loft and really need decluttering) 😆

@Pineappleapple It's so much easier to keep things clean when it's tidy isn't it?

8stone13 · 08/02/2022 12:30

One eBay sale out, & two empty ink printer cartridges posted back to hp for recycling.

seperatedmum · 08/02/2022 13:01

dropped off here a bit precisely when I went back to work after Covid, had the news I've been dreading that I have to get the house valued IRL for divorce which will be very very difficult with the overcrowding and only me doing anything so I suppose I'll become one of the "decluttering to move" posters

8stone13 · 08/02/2022 14:50

Good luck @seperatedmum

PurpleFrog · 08/02/2022 16:40

Everyone is doing really well!

I have looked back and realised it has been 2 weeks since I last updated - I really must try to update more frequently.

We have now defrosted and re-organised the under-counter freezer. It was getting to the stage that so much ice had built up the drawers weren’t going in properly, so the door didn’t always catch leading to more ice…. Surprisingly, not much was binned, but I have a mental note of stuff that I need to start using up. I made a pork casserole last week which used a number of part-packs of frozen pork steaks. It was successful, so I will probably make it again in a few weeks. Since both freezers have now been defrosted, I can organise to put the electric coolbox back in the loft.

I cleared and cleaned the recessed shelf in the hall. The large vase that was there is now upstairs on the landing, ready to be packed in bubblewrap and go up to the loft. I think I will want to use it in the future. I still have to find homes for some other random bits that were removed from the shelf, and I am now thinking about finding some useful storage for that area.

This past week I have started sorting out boxes of old receipts. I have emptied one plastic shoebox-sized storage box so far. Most receipts have been shredded or binned, with only a couple of dozen ones for larger household items kept. I will probably just make a note of the details of these items before disposing of the receipts themselves. They are too old for the items to still be under warranty.

I sent DP to the recycling site last Thursday with 3 full garden bags, and I filled our brown bin for the garden/food waste collection the previous week. For the recent cardboard /paper collection, I broke up 6 or 7 boxes to put out. My eBay packaging hoard is getting slightly out of control at the moment, as I have done more online buying than selling recently. Talking about eBay, I managed to list 3 new items on eBay on each of the last two weekends, and I have sold 2 items there in the past fortnight. I have also looked out some other bits and pieces that I will get rid of locally.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 08/02/2022 19:33

One unused rucksack out today.

FurBabyMum02 · 08/02/2022 20:00

@wildpoinsettia I probably can actually yer that will make things simpler but she was checking if some books were mine or my sisters so I'm sure even so there will be more like that

@8stone13 your mum wasn't wasting any time haha, my GCSE, A level and uni notes are all still at mums but I've told her to bin them, if it's not in my brain I don't need it anymore!

Had a good day today going through the spare room (dumping ground) and have half filled another charity box and more for recycling or bin. 162 items decluttered today! Lots of small crafty bits and some books. Managed to clear an entire shelving unit and said to DH we can get rid of that too, but he wants it for his overflowing man cave/office/gym to store more rubbish on, I told him not until he's had a sort out in there so we will see if it ends up going 🙄

seperatedmum · 08/02/2022 20:18

I had to give the bathroom a big clean couldn't remove the hair dye thanks DD will have to paint wherever I can and got rid of some empties and my dead electric toothbrush which will be replaced at mates rates

8stone13 · 08/02/2022 21:38

@FurBabyMum02 She kept saying she was going to do it & I didn't believe her! It was a tiny flat with no storage & I was in the middle of my doctorate so I had enough paper around - argh! Mind you I will completely do the same with my kids 😀

londonmummy1966 · 08/02/2022 22:47

I found an old folder with some of my degree notes in at the end of last year - its the only one I think so I've hung onto it but it will go eventually....

Not feeling great today (and had a positive lateral flow test) so only one out which was an ebay parcel that the GPO collected. I spent much of the afternoon photgraphing and listing various bits from an old chest of drawers in the garage that had craft things in. Most of the contents left a few days ago but I couldn't face the listing fest until now.

I might spend the next few days of forced incarceration trying to find something else to list.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 09/02/2022 16:54

Hi - I would like to join you if I may? I am on a decluttering mission this year, and a bit more confident it might actually happen, as DH seems more onboard. I love decluttering, but he doesn't. He tends to accumulate clutter faster than I can dispose of it, and has never been keen on helping me sort through things, but I think the realisation that our loft is actually full, to the point where I can't safely be up there, never mind actually find anything, has finally got my point across.

I don't generally mind sorting through things on my own, as I find it quite soothing, but there is such a lot that has to be done jointly, that it's a relief to be making a start.

We've started with all the kids clothes in the loft (7 years worth for DD!), and I've nearly done it all now. I think there is another 4 or 5 big bags to go. Then we've agreed to bring down 4 things at a time, hopefully once a week, to dispose of. And all the while I'll be sorting through the rest of the house too. Next on my hit list: the drawers in the study, and (another) run at my wardrobe!
