And that reminds me we have several items to list for sale so must try to get DS to do it for a commission !

Nordicmom · 04/02/2022 18:54

I’m haunted by my mums and aunts newspaper and magazine piles everywhere so I have a policy of one of each when a new one comes the old must go and I only subscribe to 4 and get one newspaper a couple times a week . I have to get the other family members to part with their piles though they all only get one type / a couple each but have a tendency to not read and recycle but to hoard them in piles on shelves for years if I let them so occasionally I interfere and task them to flip through and get rid !

52andblue · 04/02/2022 18:54

Can I join please?

8stone13 · 04/02/2022 18:58

Yes - welcome @52andblue 🙂 👋🏻

8stone13 · 04/02/2022 20:18

The last little travel bottle of skincare has just been used up - I no longer have miniature & cut open tubes on my en suite shelves!

OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree · 04/02/2022 20:23

I've cut out the patterns that I'm likely to do (not many!) and have given the rest to my friend. I've had such a good declutter of the house, it feels so good!

WildPoinsettia · 05/02/2022 11:48

Congratulations 8stone13 I'm still working my way through my bathroom stash. I weirdly bought more last week, having somehow totally forgotten I was on a bathroom buying ban. Never mind. I've got to the end of all the half bottles, I'll keep it to one of each product open at a time from now on, it helps with using things up quicker and reclaiming the space. My goal is to have nothing round the edge of the bath so it can be cleaned more easily.

OddSocks strangely cathartic, isn't it.

Today I'm going to declutter the medical cabinet. I know there's some out of date stuff in there.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/02/2022 12:31

I've sorted out under the sink, chucked out a load of empty bottles and wrappers and finally found the insect killer we lost last year...

Need to pop to the post office later to post a Vinted sale. I've also got a few bits to list on our freebee group.

FurBabyMum02 · 05/02/2022 16:36

@nordicmom those shutters are beautiful they really do look like they belong.

Not much progress here as still have family staying until tomorrow but the giant box is finally gone and all 402 items decluttered so far with it! Also chucked in the car a few random extra big items so up to 406 now and today removed a teddy, a cutlery display box someone could easily repurpose for jewellery or something, 1 sewing mannequin and 1 of those white display trees hobycraft do that we used for our wedding 4 years ago.

londonmummy1966 · 05/02/2022 17:27

Hello to the new declutterers!

@Nordicmom - your house looks immaculate - can't believe you have any clutter!

@OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree - I photograph instructions from craft magazines to read off my ipad - realise it won't work for sewing patterns but works for knitting and crochet etc.

The reception was fantastic - the Beefeaters gave us a tour and then took us to their private pub for a drink before the ceremony - they give their time up to groups partly to say thank you to volunteers and partly to raise funds via a raffle for a local foodbank which is really good of them. I came home with a print from the pub but will send it to DD2 who is away at school so couldn't come - she loves the programme on TV too

Its not all gadding about here though - I have been cracking on and got DH to bring some boxes from the garage into the conservatory where it was easier to go through them - a huge box of kitchen items, stationery etc went to a local charity shop along with a bin bag of DD2s old clothes. Some of the better items have been listed on VInted/ebay and some of their old wet suits have gone to neighbours or been sold on ebay. A constructive couple of days I feel.

I've also found a use for the odd balls of wool I haven't got round to decluttering - apparently neo natal ICUs like pairs of bonding squares - the idea being that the mother sleeps with one and then puts it in the cot with the baby and sleeps with the other and they swap them over. SO I will sit and knit some in the evenings as a local mum drops them off when she has a bagful. Makes a change from hats for Innocent smoothie bottles...

EllieQ · 05/02/2022 18:25

That sounds really interesting @londonmummy1966

Got some stuff out of the house today as I took two of DD’s old winter coats to a charity shop (one age 2-3 and one 3-4). I always find it tricky to get to charity shops as the ones in town are in the pedestrianised area so you have to walk from the bus stop/ car park. This means I can only drop off small amounts at a time, and as I work Mon-Fri, I can only drop things off at the weekend. So it feels like an achievement Smile

I also had a quick sort through my box of paperwork and filed some bank statements/ found some stuff to recycle. A good day for me Smile

8stone13 · 05/02/2022 18:39

Thanks @WildPoinsettia I have to admit I do like good skincare but I'm a bit of a one for buying things that I think I'll use but don't get on with - I've had some Elemis Frangipani Monoi Moisture Melt on the side of the bath for months & never gone near it. Shampoo, conditioner etc goes into the shower with me every time but then I skip the body moisturiser as I'm dashing off somewhere...so I'm trying to be mindful of using that up or else it just becomes an expensive ornament!

Dinosauraddict · 05/02/2022 19:03

Good little blitz this afternoon here. In the to-go pile: 9 dresses, 9 sets of baby cutlery, a saucepan, a photo frame and a corner toiletries holder for the shower. I also used Olio to get rid of some unwanted veg and unsubscribed from more mailing lists (when will that ever end)!

Nordicmom · 05/02/2022 19:08

Londonmummy1966 we don’t anymore so much in this new house but there is still stuff I need to finish going through in the attic abd in drawers always and we have a storage locker we got when we were selling our old house and renting that needs emptying . I have two kids and a dog so there’s always stuff to get rid of . I worked hard for years in our old house to go through our attic etc . No one else cares about this or cleaning like me so I simply have to go around daily doing all the rooms or others start making the mess

Nordicmom · 05/02/2022 19:10

My mum always had stuff everywhere and my dad said when he goes to nursing home he’ll have nothing but a few bits of furniture in his room . I know the feeling although I like a few ornamental touches. I love empty clear surfaces though my mind rests in rooms like that .

Bessica1970 · 05/02/2022 19:27

Could I join you please?
I received ‘Minimalista’ for Christmas and had a really good couple of weeks decluttering but it’s stalled a bit now.

I’m doing well with using up part bottles of skincare and makeup though 🙂

Dinosauraddict · 05/02/2022 21:12

Welcome @Bessica1970 !

8stone13 · 05/02/2022 22:17

Welcome @Bessica1970 & well done on the using up of skincare - several of us have been doing the same thing - it's becoming a declutter aim in its own right 😀

ememem84 · 06/02/2022 12:27

Boot full of stuff to dump. Including

2 bar stools
Old minging baking pans
Wok
Huge plastic box which had broken
Wicker baskets that dsis can’t use and we won’t use.

Have binned old silicone mats for oven trays which just were gross.
Baby cup
And some broken blow up animals from ds’ jungle party.

FurBabyMum02 · 06/02/2022 19:20

Been through a couple of places already decluttered today as with a second look there are a few more bits that can go, rubber gloves, leaflets, small brush, beauty tool, weekly planner, 2 books, and old work related paperwork gone today

Dinosauraddict · 06/02/2022 20:54

Couple good steps forward here today, had 2 large items collected via facebay, put 1 jumper of DS' in the to-go pile and threw out a load of out of date meds but mainly focused on my digital declutter - seethed 2 apps, 149 photos and 69 phone videos!

Nordicmom · 06/02/2022 20:59

Today DH managed to thankfully get rid of all the three big charity shop boxes and take 5 wooden pallets , mountains of paper curtains , an old workbench etc to dump . There’s 3 more pellets for the dump left and the cabinet with 2 with it going back and a new correct colour one arriving still but a big improvement has been made . he’s been able to get the new cabinets and drawers into their places and then continued to unpack plastic storage boxes contents into them to get stuff off the garage floor . He also managed to give DS two driving lessons ,wash the car/cars , take the dog to the vet , run some errands and do admin more of which tonight also need to wash the floors tonight . Would have had DD riding lesson as well but she was feeling unwell so missed it . I’ve just done daily cleaning and laundry and some online shopping etc haven’t had energy to go attack top floor so far but my decluttering is progressing on the side anyway there’s always stuff added to dump pile / charity box /bin . Am feeling very tired and we have a week full of appointments for all of us ahead . At least the shutters are done and no other people in here this week …

Pineappleapple · 07/02/2022 02:46

Finding it hard to get some time to declutter. Had a few mins yesterday though so quickly went through a couple of drawers - one that I thought just had pillowcases in, but got rid of an apron, and one with gloves in, one pair gone. Folded pillowcases upright Marie kondo style and could definitely get something else in there now. Also got rid of a knitted tea cosy (the person who did it have us two, so picked my favourite) and a hat that doesn't suit me. Feel glad to get back into it. Not quit sure where to tackle next really, I find it easier to do it when I have a plan. Maybe my gardening stuff cupboard though I can't do that with my toddler around. Hmm.

Dinosauraddict · 07/02/2022 06:11

@Nordicmom that sounds like your DH has been a star!

ememem84 · 07/02/2022 06:43

Am waiting for next weekend when I can tell you I decluttered an entire kitchen.
