Super stressful week at work and do need to shoehorn a few more hours in over the weekend unfortunately.

I've thrown out all the old magazines that were on my bedroom windowsill and shredded a load more stuff in the office. My partner has also cleared out a lot of rubbish that was around his desk in the office which has been a big improvement!

Also thrown out some dead plants, just in time to try and grow more this year :P

LivingInaBuildingSite · 29/01/2022 15:47

Haven’t been managing much at all recently.
And went to a random sale auction thing for charity.

Managed to sell some of our stuff like jigsaws.

But gained a candle holder, box of random fiction books, another glass cake stand (why?) and probably some other crap too.

Had to go through the airing cupboard as it filled up with dust from the old kitchen below when the builders did stuff down there.
Meant I binned some old swimming hats & a new camping towel went to the charity pile.

Have a new big box for charity plus a bag of clothes so need to get there next week if poss.
Plus a large bag of boys clothes to pass onto a friend. Was meant to be this weekend but haven’t even messaged her yet.

So all in all, not great but will keep plodding on.

WildPoinsettia · 29/01/2022 18:42

I put three ordnance survey maps in the recycling yesterday. I don't go walking any more. It meant I could fit two books that I want to keep onto the shelf. I should go through the bookshelf really, but I want to focus on the stuff in piles everywhere that doesn't have a home, not the stuff that's already tidy.

Dinosauraddict · 29/01/2022 20:18

Really good day here, managed to take 4 bags to the charity shop and 2 bags to the clothes bank, dropped a few more things off to CEX, Facebook people collected 1 ornament and another pair of curtains, I got rid of 2 books, 1 shoe box, 1 muslin, 1 pair of DS' trousers and 1 hat as well as unsubscribing from more mailing lists. Big 'in' was a new treadmill, but that has been planned and on order.

Dinosauraddict · 29/01/2022 20:21

Oh and I also sorted out another bag for the charity shop which got rid of another box from my dining room! Smile

seperatedmum · 29/01/2022 21:08

walked up and down the front yard then garden a few times they're each only a few steps and put a few broken bits in recycling or for dump

Gassylady · 30/01/2022 15:21

Quite couple of weeks here as work remains crazy with so many last minute changes as people are away. Then tested positive yesterday so all the things i was planning to do in my week off are not to be - visit bathroom showroom, dental appointment etc. Still lots more time to tirn cupboards out i guess! Just feeling like I have a rotten cold so csn get on with listing a few bits on eBay too!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 30/01/2022 19:32

Just some holey socks gone out today but it was a busy day doing other stuff around the house.

The office is driving me mad, the room we spend the most time in and its an absolute shit tip!

ememem84 · 30/01/2022 20:01

Crazy week here. I was struck down with what we thought was covid. Not covid.

Then dd got sick bug. Then ds. Then DH yesterday. So it’s been a crazy busy yes not week.

But. This week outs are:

Bottle of carpet cleaner. See above
Bath mat. As above (it needed to be replaced anyway)
Spices which we won’t use/out of date x7
Full can of azera coffee - in my work bag for tomorrow
New honey - as above for tomorrow
Gin cocktail syrups. We don’t make cocktails at home.
Plastic forms and knives
Bottle of shampoo - emptied
Bubble bath - emptied
Bar soap - used up
Washing up liquid - emptied into the pump bottle one I have
Face exfoliation - finished
Body scrub - finished
E45 cream which was almost gone and had separated - it was old!
Jumper which had too many holes
And a water bottle.

Haven't done much as DD2 was home from school for the weekend. I walked an IKEA bag full of towels to the local vet where they were gratefully received - now going to buy a couple more but the ones that have gone were getting tatty and/or had discoloured in the wash. DD and I went through my evening dress cupboard and she has acquired several of my beautiful vintage Droopy and Browns dresses - I just wish I was still a size 6 and able to get into them. She has also acquired a few other items so they are now in her wardrobe not mine which I am counting as a result.

Today DH took a bag of textile recycling to drop off on his way to take DD back to school. I've listed some wetsuits and a bag of dolls stuff on a local mums group and am getting requests for them so hopefully they'll be out this week. I've also listed some more of my sewing stuff on ebay. Does anyone know if there are any websites for selling surplus craft stuff and fabric?

Things have slowed down a bit on the decluttering front as quite a lot of the easy stuff has gone so what is left requires more thought and effort. However if I just keep chipping away it should happen in the end.

Dinosauraddict · 30/01/2022 20:34

Good day here again, did a tip run of rubbish sacks and flat packed cardboard - got rid of everything like DH's old socks and all the empty dvd cases. Someone collected an ornament and I cleared out a small desk box so got rid of 1 stapler, a staple remover, lots of staples and paper clips, 2 usb drives, a thimble and a polo shirt.

EllieQ · 30/01/2022 22:32

Still only making a tiny amount of progress here. Went through the pile of paperwork on the dining table and filed/ recycled most of it, and finally put some Xmas kitchen stuff away (big roasting tray, box of crackers we didn’t use) for next year. Had to get DH to do this as they go on the top shelf of a cupboard that I can’t quite reach, even on a chair!

We are still catching up with sorting out Xmas chaos after being ill right after Xmas Day. This week I’m going to try to find homes for the last few Xmas presents, take more textiles to the recycling, and tackle some of my Box of Paperwork.

8stone13 · 30/01/2022 23:33

Been away this weekend but cleared out some stock cubes that were past their use by date tonight. I try super hard not to throw food away & am usually very successful, all meals are planned & really nothing goes to waste...but every so often I find things that with the best will in the world I haven't used up. I found some things they are going out of date soon so I've planned ways to use them up in coming days. I also found some things that were just out of use by but I think will be fine. Has anyone ever had food poisoning from pudding rice that's 4 weeks beyond its 2 year shelf life?! 😀

Pineappleapple · 31/01/2022 00:31

Also feel glad when it's bin day, if I'm doing well getting rid of stuff then the bin is full - recycling and normal bin.
Too many hobbies hope you are feeling ok and managing with isolation
Wam90 sounds like you have done loads! And with two little ones around, well done.
Living dead girl work sounds really tough, hope you got done what you needed to over the weekend and it didn't take too long
Gassy lady, ah gutted, covid is everywhere at the moment. Hope you can still enjoy your leave a bit off
Emenem get well soon.
Lots of illness on the thread, have tried to catch up a bit, got a bit behind

WildPoinsettia · 31/01/2022 01:56

Feel guilty. I threw out a bag of bags. I tried putting them in the recycling but they didn't take them. I need the space back so they have gone to landfill.

Pineappleapple · 31/01/2022 03:20

I've definitely slowed down recently but did ok this weekend. Did oh's office/ dumping ground, made a difference doing it together, OH does a very superficial tidy whereas I was spotting a bit more! I pulled stuf out, he made decisions and rehomed stuff. A pair of slippers and a few bits and bobs for the tip. That was Saturday. Sunday we looked in the shed, I had some gardening stuff I have been keeping in a cupboard that I wanted in the shed, we found an empty plastic box in the shed and chucked some stuff on a shelf so we had somewhere to put it. Got rid of wax for the car, we will never use it, that sort of thing. Found some de icer from last winter oops. We bought some recently. Have put a reminder on my phone for next September to look in shed for de icer so hopefully we don't do the same again.
Butterfly feeder is in the charity shop bag, felt like it would be more hassle than it's worth. Have however ordered a bird feeder so I guess that's neutral, but if I actually use it outside that will be better than a butterfly feeder in a cupboard.
Have some more gardening stuff in a cupboard, wanted it to be easy access when I did quite a bit of gardening but I don't have much time now, and realistically I don't need to be able to get feed for roses out etc more than a couple of times a year at best so plan to go through and move lots to the shed.

SingToTheSky · 31/01/2022 08:51

Got rid of lots of little figures at the weekend as 4yo doesn’t need them. Put one set aside to sell as should make a few quid. That’s about really other than some old bits of toys

Pineappleapple · 31/01/2022 12:50

Wild poinsettia I think that's ok. Sometimes that's what we need to do. Storing them in your house isn't any better

SydneyCarton · 31/01/2022 13:34

Tiny bits here - finished a bottle of colour effects conditioner that I won't replace, plus a can of shaving gel which always ends up making a rusty mark on the bath, and I can use soap or shower gel to shave just as easily.

MiL took DD1 shopping yesterday for a new coat, which was very kind but she really doesn't need one, and they came back with two Hmm. She needs to choose which one she wants, and I will go through the others and get rid of some. She honestly has 4-5 coats already, plus a mac and various hoodies, and we are in the SE so mild climate, it's not like she's scaling mountain peaks to get to school Grin.

WildPoinsettia · 31/01/2022 13:39

Out went a hot water bottle with a damaged inside from old age. The bin men came so another load of cardboard from the recycling pile is going outside to the box.

I suddenly seem to have turned into a hoarder and have the urge to keep everything Sad I keep telling myself I've sold loads over lockdown and didn't miss one thing once it'd gone. It's the deciding to part with things that I find difficult. I do things like seeing something is past it's best, buying a new one, then carry on using the old one because "it's not used up enough yet" which is daft and leads to clutter.

seperatedmum · 31/01/2022 14:19

did more cleaning than decluttering yesterday so nothing significant gone. need to make todays efforts

the wind has been interesting for the garden
another thread made me think- what do I do wrong with vacuum storage bags? I followed all instructions
now and years ago then H and I double checked everything but they just reinflate very soon?
also sorry if repeating- want to sell unused fashionable recipe book? zifit?

stealthninjamum · 31/01/2022 17:02

I haven’t been on for ages, I’ve had a few dramas that have stopped me decluttering and I let the house go a bit.

So today I had a massive tidy up. I have chucked out a load of gone off food (I’ve not really been cooking much either), caught up with washing, cleared kitchen surfaces properly and washed up for the first time in days, emptied all the bins. I feel ready to start decluttering again tomorrow. I’m still aiming to do six things a day so I have a lot of catching up to do.

londonmummy1966 · 31/01/2022 19:26

Not a huge amount done today but I have packed all the current charity shop stuff into a big cardboard box for DH to drop off and been thrugh the final bag of sewing stuff and binned/rehomed its contents. Also a neighbour has picked up the bag of dolls I sorted out yesterday. I've also asked if anyone wants a load of (matching) Bonne Maman jars before I put them in the recycling, Something has sold on Vinted so I'll post that off tomorrow.

It doesn't feel like a lot but I keep telling myself that a little every day works.

FurBabyMum02 · 31/01/2022 20:31

Havnt updated for a while as its been busy, we've had family staying and a teathing baby so all fun.

Have made some good progress though, 24 towels/bedding from the linen cupboard which was overflowing and now all fits nicely, we no longer have a single bed (replaced with the cot now in babies room) and for some reason I kept all the old towels when we got a new bathroom fitted and new posh towels 3 years ago 'just incase', I've just kept one set for use when defrosting the freezer.

Palmed off 3x insulated food storage tubs and a travel coffee mug on mum when she visited who was over the moon. Also finally asked dad what he thought the funny hook thing was we found in the meter cupboard when we moved in 8 years ago was and determined its of no use and can go.

Also in the charity box/bin 39 items from cutlery drawer, fondu set, dvd case wallet thing, furby (*90s kid, it's still annoying no idea why I still had that), 28 delapedated cat toys.

Nothing (unless it's been binned) has actually left the house yet its been getting chucked in a humongous box in the spare bedroom for charity which is now finally fill so will be going at the weekend. 402 items out so far.

Turtleoo · 31/01/2022 20:40

Some of you are making such huge progress, well done!

I didn't get far over the weekend but a bit more traction today. Two things I put on eBay have sold and gone to the post office so that's good.

Also a bundle of maternity tops I've had on FB for ages have been collected this afternoon.

I finally bit the bullet and downloaded Vinted and have got two bundle sale requests within a few hours of listing things, so thanks to the people encouraging me to try it
