A few small bits done today. A couple of bits out of the tool box as I was looking for something there, joggers which look ridiculous on and a too small jumper in fabric recycling. A book I started rereading and decided it wasn't as good as I remembered and an ornament I got for Christmas which isn't my taste in charity bag. A rubbish yoyo and am old mqke up highlighter that I don't use in the bin.

Got rid of something on marketplace, mainly because it was a pain to get to the chailrity shop so I got a couple of pounds and it saved me a trip. I should do that more.

A load of hangers gone. I got rid of quite a few clothes recently but hadn't realised how much clearer my wardrobe would look without all the excess hangers. Still could get rid of a chunk more to be honest! Think everyone is doing great. I don't count what is coming in but that probably is helpful!

A tiny bit of decluttering today - sorted through the pot of DD’s hair bobbles and hair clips and threw out five bobbles where the elastic had snapped. Also put a pair of her leggings in the ‘too small’ bag of clothes.

I am not quite fully recovered from the Covid (doing ten minutes of washing up this afternoon left me feeling really tired), but I’m much better than I was, thankfully!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/01/2022 23:00

Things on my to-do list.

The cupboard under the aquarium - a box of cables and random fish-keeping stuff.
The drawers in the living room.
The bottom of the display cupboard in the dining room.
A trip to the charity shop for clothes and books.
The bottom of my wardrobe.
The huge toy cupboard in the living room. I say toy cupboard - the dc are 17 and 20! THere are some things in there I am keeping just in case of grandkids, but both dc are (currently) clear that they don't want kids. Next time they are both home I'll drag everything out, make them identify what is theirs and what they really REALLY want to keep and what they don't.

Had a good weekend here. Cleared out the under stairs cupboard and got rid of a load of cake decorating powers and glitter. Passed on some paintbrushes and paint pallet to DN now have an empty hobby case. Also got binned the last of the hamster bedding/food. Had kept it to pass on to a friend but It’s been at least 4 months and I’ve still not done it so In the bin it’s gone.

Also cleared out my car and cleaned it inside (muddy dog) another bin bag of rubbish.

Going to IKEA this week so charity stuff is back in the house as they weren’t accepting donations when I stopped in.

Went through DVDs upstairs and more added to the charity pile. Also binned a whole box of gel pens that are not used/working (we have so many pens) and got rid of Ds paint stuff that is never used and we have had since he was a baby. His cleared a drawer for all cables to go in.

seperatedmum · 17/01/2022 09:03

three whisk attachments gone already today looking for foil to join the half a stick blender gone last night. sadly I found some lids to decent water bottles I'd thrown out earlier which backs up my instincts to try match things up before I decide 😕

pollyannaperspective · 17/01/2022 09:28

Yesterday was just cleaning out the car of DH's collection of half used OOD eye drops (2 bottles) some random broken plastic and some paper along with the dust and dirt. Also swept out the garage at DH's request as he can no longer do this due to mobility issues.
Today will be the under stairs cupboard. Mostly tidy but there is a pile of stationery items that have been there years that could now leave the house. Have booked a dump visit for next week as I have plans at the weekend to do a more bulky clearout in the garage.

Have a positive start to the week everyone. Just put that one piece of paper/rubbish on the side in the bin and 'one item a day decluttered' will already be achieved.

SingToTheSky · 17/01/2022 11:28

Some slow and steady decluttering done yesterday. Again no big wins but lots of little bits out of the house, including loads of defunct pens etc.

My friend has seen an ad asking for big towels and blankets for an animal sanctuary - have been thinking I should go through the towels at some point anyway so it’s a good excuse to get that done. Might see if I can sneak out some old character blankets too.

stealthninjamum · 17/01/2022 12:34

separatedmum oh dear that’s not good about the hoover, we have a solid Henry, if dd2 threw that it would cause damage. I have bought lots of books recently, recommended by the paedetrician, so hopefully I’ll begin to better understand her meltdowns because it’s not always obvious the cause.

Another ten items today, 6 items of school uniform that won’t be replaced, two pairs of boots, two used notepads.

Total items in 2022 90

IncessantNameChanger · 17/01/2022 14:05

Dd unexpectedly was awarded her ehcp on Friday so that was unexpected and one load of my mind

Sorry to hear your not recovered @EllieQ I was so lucky when I had covid.

I have set up a daily time table of all my life admin jobs and put a time next to them.so I have to tick them off now. Hopefully this was help me get organised and into the swing of things.

SarahJessicaParkin · 17/01/2022 14:22

That's good news incessant! Great to have that off your mind.

Getting rid of a pair of fleecey pyjamas. They are polyester and make me itch!

8stone13 · 17/01/2022 14:23

@IncessantNameChanger I'm pleased for you on the EHCP - my DS is now 14 & has had his since he was around 8, it's made a big difference. I hope it helps your DD 🤞🏻

Bigoldhag · 17/01/2022 14:57

So three of the items I out aside for selling, i decided wasn’t worth it, so into the charity bag!

Two items went up on vinted.

Decluttered:

One kindle, thought it would be ok to resale even for a tenner, but it will not charge so its off to recycling.
Two cushions - in the bag for charity, hope they take them.

1 ebay item sold so that packed to go today.

SuperDiaperBaby · 17/01/2022 18:09

Nothing sentimental today - not in the mood for challenging myself on that front but tackled a clutter corner and pleased with the result. Think I might make myself a list this evening like @IncessantNameChanger - mine will be all the areas I need to tackle in the house and then I could tick them off which I love doing.

londonmummy1966 · 17/01/2022 18:16

Well done on the statment Incessant - must be a weight of your shoulders.

Today I got 2 ebay parcels collected and tackled lots of piles of music etc. I binned a lot of photocopied orchestra parts and some really ancient cello strings. All the random music piled around the piano has been put in a wooden chest and the non random music organised into 3 matching magazine files which fit into a wheeled file box that slides under the piano. Sadly in order to get it into the chest about 200 of DH's CDs will need to be rehomed in his study. I wish he'd digitise them.

I also emptied out 3 of my work bags - usually a lucrative task but today yielded a grand total of 43p. A lot of receipts etc into the recycling and I am now well stocked up on pens pencils and combs.

TruffleNoir · 17/01/2022 21:04

I've been feeling pretty proud of myself for getting rid of so much, tidying and organising etc. Until tonight when I couldn't find a letter I needed. I remembered I had a pile of paperwork to keep and not shred and I've put it somewhere but can I find it?? I get so annoyed and irrational about it feeling like I've failed 😩

Dinosauraddict · 17/01/2022 22:11

@TruffleNoir that definitely isn't a failure, try not to be hard on yourself.

Just doing my daily check in - another good day today. In the 'to-go' pile is: 9 of DS' old drinking bottles, 3 purses, 7 folders, and some photos and sentimental items. My big win of the day though was going through one large storage box and a small suitcase of paperwork - loads has gone in the recycling, I have one bag put aside for shredding, and everything that's staying is now fully organised. Also got rid of some old notepads, certificates etc I didn't think I'd need, and DH took 2 of the bags sat in the hallway waiting to the charity shop for me which I'm very pleased about. I've also unsubscribed from more mailing lists again which feels like a never-ending task!!

CatrinVennastin · 17/01/2022 23:00

@EllieQ glad you are feeling better.

Posted a couple of parcels today from Vinted sales. Also freecycled a bag of hangers.

This week will be a slow one for me on the decluttering front as I have two suppliers to visit this week and getting there and back takes most of the day.

SydneyCarton · 18/01/2022 11:27

Taken my clinking bag of glasses and mugs, plus some school skirts and a few very baby-ish toys (cloth books and rattles), to the charity shop this morning. Some stuff has come in - new pants and joggers for DS as potty training is proving tough, but at least one pair of old joggers which are weirdly tight on the ankles are earmarked for going out.

8stone13 · 18/01/2022 12:30

One more eBay item sold & 2 more items listed on eBay/Gumtree/FB Marketplace 👍🏻

The only danger with listing an item (or more) per day is that I seem to be needing to post something every other day! I've sent today's item via Hermes as I have a great Hermes man who does very reliable local collection & it's pretty much the same price as Royal Mail but doesn't mean yet another trip to the Post Office...

I might have to look at doing draft listings then posting them all at the same time so I have perhaps one or two days a week in which to sort several parcels. That's assuming buyers pay promptly of course 🤔

stealthninjamum · 18/01/2022 12:34

incessant well done on the ehcp, that’s a massive achievement.

superdiaperbaby well done in the clutter corner.

I have sold a toy I mentioned a few days ago. It was a big one in the Room of Doom. And yesterday I had two boxes of books collected by ziffit. I should be pleased even in the last four or five days I have got rid of probably a car boot full of stuff but you’d never notice.

Todays item will be a red bowl in the charity shop bag (which is currently empty). I’m up to 101 items in 2022. Yesterday should’ve been 100. I should do a 100 items boogie victory dance!

seperatedmum · 18/01/2022 15:12

just got in from work, horrible old dressing gown of DDs gone in rag bag but had no replace it so that's a neutral

pollyannaperspective · 18/01/2022 16:20

Yesterday's focus on the understairs cupboard resulted in 12 items moved to the charity shop bag and it will be going out tomorrow. Mainly lever arch files, dividers, folders and a perfume branded gift bag that won't be re-purposed. The folders etc won't be needed here. DC are working/at university so have their own way of filing etc. We will be consolidating our own financial records etc in the coming months as DH's retirement is on the horizon, so likely more folders to go out.

Today's effort was one item from a now clear and tidy 'playroom' (remember DC are adults!) that needs to be relocated to the 'emergency use' wheelchair it is used with that is currently stored in the garage.

So - some outs (once the charity bag is donated) and some sorting that needed doing.
