Oldest friend pasta in my pantry was dated 2013!!!
All and any packets of casserole mix and stock cubes etc all thrown if they were out of date. Threw about 20 packets away.

FurBabyMum02 · 15/01/2022 19:50

Oo love that I've just stumbled across this it will give me some accountability. Need to have a declutter as we have a house fit to bursting and a 6 month old who seems to create stuff endlessly. Doing well so far this year;
-got rid of the Xmas decs that never go up and just make the annual pilgrimage to and from the loft and bought nice plastic storage boxes to organise them all as they went away this year
-got rid of loads of out of date medication from the bathroom cabinet and bath bombs that have been sat there years last weekend
-this weekend got rid of a broken ornament that's tried and failed to be repaired numerous times, broken cat bowl, leaflets for days out taking up most of a drawer and an apron going in the charity box that was a gift and never come out of its packaging as I prefer my other 1.
-also the biggest win of all is my husband is actually on board and helping! I had to give him a 'man room/office' so I could shut the door on his clutter as it stresses me out, he's bought a shredder and spent the evening getting rid of 7 years of receipts, prescriptions and letters he's been keeping because we didn't have a shredder that I didn't even know he was keeping!

Feeling very good today!

TruffleNoir · 15/01/2022 19:55

Well done today everyone!

I've put lots in my charity bag for going out on Monday. Clothes have already been massively decluttered so it's more items and toys etc, books and DVDs.

Also sorted out a bag of old clothes for recycling.

pollyannaperspective · 15/01/2022 22:04

With the benefit of pre Christmas prep and a quick re visit today the dining room is now free of clutter.
I have found that there are days when nothing, at all, gets done so have much empathy with anyone who feels stuck. If you can start with one item a (piece of paper or junk mail), that's one less item to tackle tomorrow.

IncessantNameChanger · 15/01/2022 22:31

Taking inspiration from.todays posts I have cleared some out of date food in the cupboards into the bin. The leggings I put on this morning are also destined for the bin.

Coffee table, all surfaces in the kitchen and bedroom cleared. Not much really but hopefully it's a start and a turning point from feeling overwhelmed.

Dinosauraddict · 16/01/2022 07:04

I wouldn't say that's 'not much' @IncessantNameChanger - that's great!

LemonViolet · 16/01/2022 10:24

Did my side of bathroom drawers & 1 cupboard whilst watching one of the video lessons on the “take your house back” course. Result half a black bag of rubbish and a shoebox of recycling, 1 jade skin roller thing to donate (seriously does anyone ever actually use those things?) and a bunch of small items that lived elsewhere like pens and first aid/medicines. Yay!

8stone13 · 16/01/2022 10:55

@pollyannaperspective That's exactly it - one thing out today is one less thing cluttering the house today & one less thing to deal with tomorrow 👍🏻

Just sold another item on eBay, so more stuff out, more funds in (sales across the week at £140 after fees 👏🏻) My policy of getting one thing a day listed (unless the day is too manic for me to catch my breath!) is really working.

pollyannaperspective · 16/01/2022 11:50

Incessant that is quite the productive list in my book. Would it help to reframe your expectations of yourself? Speaking as one who is also given to thinking I should always be doing more than I do.
Really, if children are safe, fed and watered and loved, main job of any day done.
Have a good day everyone. Looks like my one a day item today will be vacuuming the car out.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/01/2022 12:24

It's been a productive January but there is still so much to do and its got me a bit down today tbh! We did have a good blitz of the kitchen on Friday though but it does feel that there isn't a single room where you can't find some kind of clutter collector. I don't even want one of those minimalist white houses with nothing but a few plants on display but there must be a happy medium surely!

8stone13 · 16/01/2022 12:49

As an FYI for those thinking of eBaying their clutter, I've got 70% off selling fees until tomorrow. If you have an eBay account you might have too - it's worth checking your messages & activating the offer if you've got it 👍🏻

Bigoldhag · 16/01/2022 14:52

Today’s outs so far:

To sell:
Two handbags
One pyjamas (new with tags)
One tshirt
One skirt

To recycle/bin:

Three flannels
Two boxes
One unmatched pyrex storage lid
One makeup bag

Charity shop pile:
One storage basket
One handbag
Three kitchen storage containers

SuperDiaperBaby · 16/01/2022 15:09

Gifted decorations made for me but no longer doing anything other than catching dust - binned.

SuperDiaperBaby · 16/01/2022 15:12

@LivingDeadGirlUK same here. I have made steady progress this month but so much still to do everywhere I look. However I would love a minimalist house - not going to happen but I dream of clear surfaces!

seperatedmum · 16/01/2022 16:05

went too hard at parkrun yesterday and was tired so only some wrong prescription lenses are going straight back out. not done todays out yet

LivingDeadGirlUK · 16/01/2022 16:43

@SuperDiaperBaby I have trinkets that I love and wouldn't want to take off display, but its only in a few places. What annoys me is I can't just go wipe all the windowsills for example as they are all collecting crap!

I've listed some more bits on Vinted today plus got rid of a load of rubbish in the garage. I've some electronics to gift/sell but I need to play match the chargers first.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/01/2022 18:28

Today I ditched the out of date ot rarely used spices.
I'm aiming more to keep doing sonryhubg daily than doing big chunks then losing the will to keep going.

stealthninjamum · 16/01/2022 18:49

incessant I think you maybe have higher expectations than we do because it sounds like you had a good day. I’m inclined to think anyone with four kids, especially if they have some with SEN, will have a hard job staying on top of housework, never mind making improvements! I think you are too hard on yourself.

We had a bad weekend, dd2 had a meltdown and destroyed a load of storage boxes so I will have to rebuy them. The only out is a toy in the present pile in the Room of Doom. I was going to go through some of dcs stuff with them but we’ve had lots of cuddles instead.

londonmummy1966 · 16/01/2022 19:24

Sorry some of you are finding it a bit tough. I had a bit of a dead weekend on the decluttering front but I did manage to get 4 ebay parcels off yesterday and have 2 to go tomorrow. The big win was that DH was inspired to take some old boots and electricals to the recycling centre and some books to a charity shop. I also managed to declutter some small cans of tonic and seedlip miniatures to DD as she tore a ligament in her ankle and was at A&E rather than drinks last night - at least now she can sit in the sick bay pretending she is having a g&t.

Will try to get back onto the decluttering tomorrow.

FurBabyMum02 · 16/01/2022 19:25

Good weekend for us, today we've had a paperwork session and a couple of random things:

For charity-4 plates, 1 little decorative pot
Bin/recycled-1 broken torch, 1 shampoo bottle that makes me itch, 1 smashable money box (money baged ready for a bank run), 2x files of paperwork

59 items gone so far and 2 rooms done (granted the tidiest ones in the first place but u have to start somewhere)

SarahJessicaParkin · 16/01/2022 19:42

I organised the lego today (found a shelf for creations and then a little tub for loose pieces). Didn't get rid of any of it, but still.

Also binned some serum that was making my skin break out and about a third of a bag of ancient, vegan protein powder.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 16/01/2022 19:55

Present to DNephew a success.

Have moved out of our old kitchen for the builders to take it over tomorrow.
This has resulted in a box full of random shite we don’t use or want.
Random salad servers we never use, or really long skewers that don’t fit in a drawer anywhere and so on.

So I’m giving up counting but can safely say 100+ items have gone.

New drinks bottle for running in.

New picture frame DD need in and picture put in, need to hang up that one and DS1’s new poster in his room too.

The new kitchen now looks like a disaster though!

SarahJessicaParkin · 16/01/2022 20:00

Oh sorry; in, 3 x secondhand books! I'm doing a low spend year, but I'm allowing myself up to £10 a month on secondhand books. Cheaper than a Netflix account (and I've cancelled that). Also, my rule is three out for every one in. I've definitely got rid of more than 9 this weekend, so I'm fine.

Not sure who I'm justifying myself to here Grin

seperatedmum · 16/01/2022 20:12

used lightbulb wrapped and binned
more rubbish out of my room
some envelopes out and redundant toy control in dump bag going to start on a charity bag and catch up with everyone else now

Dinosauraddict · 16/01/2022 20:56

Really good day here. Yesterday I bought a new dressing gown and a new dress but they were both actively shopped for and needed, so today I got rid of the corresponding old dressing gown and dress. 2 in, 2 out. Also in the to-go pile today: 1 coat, 1 large blanket, 1 painting, 1 pair of DS' trousers that are too small, 3 sets of old keys, 2 bath mats, 2 sets of curtain tie backs, 2 vacuum packable clothes bags, 1 book, 3 big IKEA bags and I unsubscribed from more mailing lists. DH also got involved today and sorted out a pile of books for the charity shop and cleared some rubbish out of his study - very pleased with him!
