Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

That wow it’s great they didn’t make you redo the first TMA!
I need to apply in an odd way, as I was doing OU before I got sick and then had to drop out of a few courses, which put me on “restricted status”. It should be fine, it just means extra faff and forms etc. I am only allowed to do one course at once because of this but TBH I don’t think I’d manage more anyway, much as I am tempted. I guess I’ll see how this one goes and maybe I could try courses 2 and 3 together, but then I just realised that will be DD1’s GCSE year 😱 so maybe not 😬 ah well with one course a year I’ll graduate at 40 so plenty of time for a career after that! And a whole lot of stuff to be doing in the meantime. 😬

Maths set up, and found some stuff I hadn’t printed for DS’ next workbook too so two birds and all that 🤣

Morning campers.

Nothing achieved here so far other than catching up on the thread, which has motivated me to make a move. I’m thinking morning routine and then off to the park. Looking after DN after lunch which DD is very excited about.

Those photos are lovely Zoo!

Welcome Peony. I work full time too, although over 4 days, and find Flylady works well for me when I do it. We’ll not mention June and July’s pitiful efforts I do have to adapt it a bit though as I don’t get much done on work days other than the basics, and I split Mondays home bleurgh between Wednesday and Saturday.

Right. I am moving. Promise.

THATmamaofMANY · 04/08/2021 09:26

Up how long til fat leave?

PeonyRose80 · 04/08/2021 09:27

PeonyRose80 · 04/08/2021 09:29

Thanks @StillUpholding really useful. It would be so much easier if DH wasn’t on video calls all day and went back into the office

I am so pleased I don’t have to contend with my messy DH working from home Peony. My thoughts are with you!

Thanks for your good wishes for DS, everyone. I think he has a tummy bug, actually. The tummy thing started last night.

YupIHave · 04/08/2021 10:04

Oh, WOW here.

SingToTheSky · 04/08/2021 10:20

Fat leave 🤣 love it

I need that all year long despite lack of pregnancy. 😳🤣

Maths lesson went well. Need to put together some homework later and also prepare for next week to address a specific tricky topic that came up today.

You lot have been busy. I actually managed to eventually go back to sleep this morning after my usual pre-5am wake up. I'm going to have that as my tada.

Going out for lunch with my sister at 12 so I'm afraid my main goals for this morning are actually get out of bed, walk the dog, work out if I really must wash my hair or can get away with dry shampoo and faff about working out what to wear and getting ready.

Struggling to get out of bed at this point. Possibly another for a WOW.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 04/08/2021 10:28

Welcome, peony and floating! I'll tag on to the tail end of the intros - I have 4 DC (20, 18, 16 and 11), a DH and an Idiot Hound. Self-employed and DS3 is educated from home, so desperately in need of structure. In the last 6 weeks my two biggest boys have both moved in with their partners (one at Uni, one 20 mins down the road) and I'm still reeling a bit!

🍒👋 to every else, have run out of time for proper personals. Just wanted to say I Anti-procrastinated! I have hemmed my new trousers (again 🤬) so I don't look like a bag lady when I take DS3 into town to meet friends in a minute.

Oh, and I emptied the bins and put a LOL on. It's a start. Just going to get chicken out of the freezer before I leave

Hope you all have a good day, I'm beyond exhausted and I've pulled something in my lower back.

🤣🤣🤣

Very apposite, Sing. How long have you had my office bugged?

Ta da:
❤️ Bath mats washed
🧡 Chicken defrosting
💛 Bins emptied, cleaned and relined
💚 Spoke to DS3's school's welfare co-ordinator about how we build on a really excellent Y6 for a brilliant Y7.
💙 Did telephone consultation with nurse re: operation on 13th
💜 Booked PCR test for 10th (via hosp) must isolate from then.
🤎 Went to park and onto ice cream parlour with DS3, 2 friends and their mums. We were basically two separate groups following each other! 😂 DS did really well Being Peopley for 2.5hours without running out of oomph
🖤 Took DS2 his Ikea sofa which was still in our car from last night - DH took the executive decision that 11pm was Too Damn Late to try to unload it!

I have knocked myself into a cocked hat and walked too far again and need more painkillers. I shall probably retire upstairs for a nap to work, with my lovely office things.

Redsquirrel5 · 04/08/2021 16:13

Ha ha that is funny Sing

I haven’t got that much done. It was so lovely outside this morning I went out with my mug of tea and my book. Then I got a bit hooked and read three and a half chapters. I did move around the garden and noticed a few things that needed doing.

🐓Fed chickens.
🌸Tied back sweet peas and peas.
🌺Tied back some rose branches.
🍅Watered and fed tomatoes and peppers.

🌻Took in parcel for next door.
🌼Sorted some magazine tear outs.
🌻gave parcel to neighbour and spoke to her for a bit.
🌼 took bins in.
🌻vacuumed sitting room.
🌼wiped kitchen table and changed the runner.
🌻washed runner.
🌼vacuumed downstairs hall.
🌻cleaned bedroom bin.
🌼wiped worktops after making falafel salad sandwich.
🌻washed piece of material for curtain.
🌼put hot spot stuff away.
🌻put duvet,sheets etc away.

SingToTheSky · 04/08/2021 16:14

😇😁

Man alive I am SO sleepy! I don’t really think I’ll get anything else done today TBH. I am absolutely loving the tutoring but my brain is done. What if I find employment and studying this tiring too?! Aaaargh. 😴

Maybe it’s the Peopling aspect (well done to DS3 willow! 🤩). I like the online teaching more than I thought - Zoom is tiring but I am mostly screensharing which means I don’t have to be “on” as it were - far less worry about eye contact and smiling etc.

Sorry I’m waffling. I CBA to come up with another power of three. I’ve made and sent the homework for my 9am pupil, and DSD will need to rebook the cinema tickets when she gets here. DH has twanged his back somehow so he’s lying down for a bit and I’m zoned out in front of SpongeBob. Hmm

But spoken to teen

and most importantly: declared it feed yourself or go hungry day
I am in bed already. I feel like death.

Redsquirrel5 · 04/08/2021 21:58

Hope the early night helps Hills.

I think having been more isolated makes you feel more tired when conversing with people Sing

I went to visit an older lady in the village. I said ages ago I would but always thought of it at the wrong time...lunch, early evening etc. So it was 4:30pm and she seemed pleased to see me. ✅ I enjoyed it too. We had a mutual friend who left the village and I thought she might be having difficulties in lockdown I did tell her if she needed anything that we would be happy to oblige. I think her family are all in London.
Went to the pub when I got back as car was home but no sign of DH. He was there, we sat outside and later had a meal. Lovely. Came to bed early.

Mc3209 · 04/08/2021 22:06

Today was a good, in control day (not hurtling through the time warp kind of day). Not many ta das though, just the usual kitchen tidy and laundry.

FlyLady has an app now - FlyLady Plus! I knew she had something for Apple platforms, but now there is one for Android too. I just downloaded it, apparently you can tick things off on there. I like to tick things off 😬 (Sing that wee cartoon was spot on!)

HazelNuttyElf · 04/08/2021 22:28

Red thank you for the comfy corner!
We have had a couple of long and busy days. We went to the theme park yesterday, lots of rides were ridden, lots and lots of waking and standing in line, but totally worth it. Everybody crashed last night. We're travelling back right now, we'll pick the dog up from ILs house on the way home. I ache and hurt all over, but especially my legs and back. It's like the pain is in my bones. I'm going to have to scrub the bath when I get home and soak in Epsom salts to see if that helps.

hills I hope your early night helps
Red so nice of you to visit a friend
Sing Hopefully your body will adjust to you doing more
Welcome peony
willow I hope your pain goes away quickly
honey did you have a good lunch with your sister?
that I love the name change

🍒👋 to everyone I missed. Back to work tomorrow, I'm already ready for the weekend!
