Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

💃💃💃💃💃

It’s Thursday - errand day! Time to get those tasks done. Sadly for me that often feels like more of an anti procrastination thing as I keep putting off said tasks. 😳

FLIGHTPLAN

Here are the missions. Cosmetics today.

Sorry that I giggled at you said about it being more painful for you. Men can make the worse patients some times. They either refuse to rest when they should cos they are "fine" or they make a mountain out of a mole hill.

i have a book i started taking notes in for job hunting. I lost the stupid thing. And no idea where to even start looking. I am just going to start a new one and then figure out what the heck to do with the other one when i find it.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/08/2021 10:49

Sorry i forgot ctrl + enter posts on mn, it makes a new line on fb Hmm

so much that needs to be done today but i also need to do a load of focused stuff so i think i am going to head out to the hills, try and bash that out of the way and then come home for tea making etc.

SingToTheSky · 19/08/2021 11:04

Argh true that and no doubt it would be an excuse to do even less in the house 🙄🤬

po3.3
❗️Check DD1’s room and get her to tidy more if needed and take laundry out of bathroom etc, and put new sheet on bed.
❗️Room rescue bathroom and add toiletries that are still hanging around on the landing
❗️Sort dirty laundry in kitchen

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 19/08/2021 11:35

po3.4
❗️Landing rescue
❗️Living room rescue
❗️Shower and hair

Am also delegating stuff to the others.

Morning everyone,

Slow to start here. I recognise the procrastinating Sing I cant face what I need to do this morning. Bloody mouse/ mice stopping me from sleeping and later woke me up. I must have been sleeping lightly. Tried shining a torch but didn’t see it/ them. I crawled in with DH for the rest of the night and slept well from about 5am -9am. They have taken all the poison but haven’t got in the way I thought as that is covered. I remember SC having problems with them.
Now it is persisting down so I won’t be hanging washing out glad most of it was done yesterday.

Hope it stays dry Hills
Sing lovely that your mum is visiting. I bet Cagletini is 😊 excited.

That DH would be the same. Wuss!

Right going to do 15 minutes of fast sorting.

The thing you need to do most is to listen especially when they are not speaking. Taking time to let them tell at their own pace because it is difficult to put into words what they are feeling and sometimes they don’t know or can’t express it.
Don’t be frightened to speak up Zoo and say that you don’t think this lady is a good fit. Children respond to different people.

Your list is fantastic.

Great list That shame about the rain. I have done one load as we have no washing detergent and it’s raining. I just stuffed the rest all into the laundry box.

Glad I did the 15 minutes as it got me going and I have carried on. As it is boudoir next I should finally get this room sorted. I have two laundry baskets with some stuff in and one fabric Ikea drawer with random crap. Chest of drawers is a bit cluttered on top.

Decluttered handbag, baskets.
Put away socks, tights etc.
Dusted trays with photos, cosmetics, perfume and earrings.
Dusted old, full length mirror.
Dusted chest of drawers.
Dusted bedside cupboards.
Vacuumed floor.

I just have a bit left to sort. Going to do under the bed on Saturday. As I have vacuumed the floor and Persian rug about three times in as many days it looks very clean.

We are going out for a meal so I need to find something to wear. DS3 birthday soon so going for a meal with all except DD and her DP who are back in lockdown. I don’t suppose she will get paid anything.

I could just have a nap.

SingToTheSky · 19/08/2021 18:19

Afternoon, or evening I guess! I am super sleepy since getting home. Got a few necessary bits in town at least and it was nice watching DD1 dancing.

I should be doing something productive, the problem with now being a bit more organised is that I find it hard to relax and I keep feeling guilty when not doing anything. But I really should just rest especially as my mum is happily entertaining Cagletini!

Tada
More laundry
Another hour on my room
Walk with dd2 to see wild bunnies💞

My phone in pocket says I'm averaging 5-7km,sometimes more every day.it doesn't feel like much to me as I've always walked everywhere and I get frustrated if we walk 15km + and my hip hurts.guess just go have accept its age related, but does bother me as I've always been able to do as I want! I am hyper mobile too and start feel that starting to reduce a bit/tightening in backs knees etc,so ive started intentional stretching to maintain flexibility

Blessedbethefruitcakes · 19/08/2021 19:21

Is there room for a newbie? I've brought Cake and 🍾! I'm just getting started and feeling quite overwhelmed at how much I've got to do. It's hard to know where to start sometimes. I've got an ancient kitchen and bathroom that are a nightmare to clean. I'm hoping that joining this thread will help give me a kick up the bum to do something, however small, everyday.

My ta-da list for today;

🦋 One LOL
🦋 Began decluttering the kitchen
🦋 Loaded the dishwasher

It would be nice to think this was a last hurrah / clearout of the fibroids, but I doubt it. I have a coil too (after years of pulling a face every time it was suggested I gritted my teeth and got over it) but it certainly didn't stop things, or make it more regular.

Need to actually do something. Did do the ironing yesterday (rapidly followed by two washes in quick succession).

Just seen there's a new decluttering programme with Nick Knowles on Channel 5.

flowerbus · 19/08/2021 21:25

willow henna soap sounds interesting I’ll have to have a mooch at them.
Ouch zoo! I’ve never tried the coil it seems quite marmite and I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to stuff like that. I’m sorry to hear about your mum💐
Wow 6DC that that’s amazing. Did you always want a large family? I bet it’s lots of fun😀. I agree re Stacey, she posts pictures of her eldest in her bed etc, which is fine but kids can be so mean I’d hate to think what would happen if they found the pictures.

I haven’t followed the flyplan today, I’m just going to start off by decluttering. I did manage to clean one of my kitchen drawers of doom, I’m hoping to get rid of all the useless crap before the baby arrives. I did a LOL and took DS’s on a walk. We met DH on his lunch break and then went to the park. I’m running out of energy now, this time around my bump is huge and DS2 has started walking so I have 2DC to run around after. I’m ready to collapse😴

SingToTheSky · 19/08/2021 21:28

Goodness, merry! Hope you feel ok soon.

Welcome blessed I love your name :o must catch up as only watched the first season and need to reread the book so I can read the testaments.

Well. I haven’t really achieved anything at all this afternoon. I am currently hiding in my room having had a little cry (and a hug from DH).

Piano is getting collected (along with the old sofa) at 9.30am. So I had one last play on it (only 16 bars… the same 16 that I first played when I got the piano when I was ten). And it sort of dawned on me what a huge part of my life it has been.

I’m not sad about getting rid of it, it’s 100% the right thing to do (and I love my digital piano) - it’s beyond repair, doesn’t sound lovely anymore, it wasn’t nice to play now. But 24 years is a lot, and cliché as it sounds it has definitely got me through some tough times. ❤️🎹

flower I remember by number 3 I was face down in sofa by 9/930 at latest!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 19/08/2021 21:50

Hi fruitcakes lovely to have you! Start small and build up, that's a good list for today.

Merry sorry you are feeling rubbish. Hope the application is well received.

Zoo wow that's a long list! You do walk absolutely masses, but if you're damaging your hip joint doing it, it might not be helping. I think I will join you in intentional stretches before I seize up solid.

Sing glad you got to watch DD1 and your Mum is visiting.

Red, good advice to zoo there. Hope you are enjoying your meal out.

That sorry it rained on your washing.

Flowerbus how is Day 2 of Flying going? And when is MiniBus due? 🤣

All this talk of coils reminds me I had one for about 4 weeks after DS2 was born. It was grotesquely uncomfortable, I could feel it all the time and insisted it came out again!

Today has been a difficult day, in that DH has been with FIL. He sailed through the memory assessment - although the nurse coached him and we may need to complain - but still had a fridge full of mouldy food, a revolting bathroom and bedsheets unchanged since 30 June. Prior to that, they were changed before 23 March 2020. No, I am not making that up. He was very difficult all day, but has finally accepted cleaning help, financial admin help and visits from the District Nurse. DH is beyond exhausted and very upset, as FIL accused him of all sorts of nefarious things when he was just trying to get him to wash anything, ever.

Ta Da:
❤️ Ordered a LimbO leg cover, so possibly I can have an actual shower tomorrow or even a bath!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 19/08/2021 21:52

Oops, lots of crossposts! Sing it's ok to mourn your piano. Have you thanked it for the joy it brought you, à la Marie Kondo? It might help

THATmamaofMANY · 20/08/2021 04:05

flowerbus before having children i don't think i ever really thought about having them at all so no i definitley didn't always want a big family!

willow we had a limbo for one of the dc and it worked well

sing 24 years is a huge amount of time Flowers

I've just fed baby and am now sat with him upright to hopefully get some wind out so he isn't sick. We have been having ALOT of post bottle sick this week (think he may be drinking too fast)

zoo how long til the wedding?

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/08/2021 04:35

that next Saturday
Hope little that hasn't decided barf all over the place..dd1 was a posseter.little madam always took in a bit too much and then "returned it" when winded!

Dancingtomusic · 20/08/2021 07:49

My kids had to sleep on a very high angle to help with reflux. They were almost sitting up to sleep!

Fruitcakes - welcome!

I spent all day yesterday decluttering my sitting room. It has 4 large black suitcases, playkitchen, play wooden shop. Huge ikea low cabinet, a large coffee table, tv cabinet, dining chair and window sills. All these surfaces gather junk top of them 🤦‍♀️.
I really want to empty the sitting room. So far, I can see half the floor. I vacummed it and it looks lovely.
On wednesday we visited a waterpark so yesterday the kids watched cbeebies and chirped for food every 1.5 hours. So I was making sandwiches too.

To do-
Try and reduce things down to 3 suit cases.
Put lol
Go see dad as he has his operation coming up in september and soon he will have to self isolate.

Oh and I swept under the stairs and swept the hall. So much dust and dust bunnies. Where on earth does it come from? I swept the skirting board and may try wiping with fabric conditioner today to keep the bloody dust off. Thanks for the suggestion That.

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/08/2021 08:06

dancing we only have carpet on the stairsthe dust is amazing
I am struggling in the mornings SO BAD.usually breeze up between 5-6 and drag self up 730-8.this will not work when school returns...next week everyone's got be fit for brekkie by 730(meaning dd2 up 7 to take meds) and then reduce final half hour week after.urgh

THATmamaofMANY · 20/08/2021 08:28

We have carpet on the stairs and upstairs (except the bathrooms) laminate downstairs except the utility which has tiles

Our previous house had much more carpet and i habe definitley noticed that the dust etc is much more obvious here. I think carpet hides it.

Babythat managed not to chuck up everywhere Star for him

THATmamaofMANY · 20/08/2021 08:29

Zoo i am going to start early wake ups next week too ⏰ Not looking forward to being back on the school run myself but some down time in the day without needing to referee so much squabbling will be nice!
