Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Does it worry anyone else that Flylady seems to see love in terms of looking after the family’s butts? 🤔🤣

Honey absolutely you are making progress, well done on the skirting boards.

Well, I have made a purchase on Kindle today (so no clutter!) which is going to make Flylady look considerably un-twee by comparison, Stacey Solomon's book Tap to Tidy, craft and organisation tips. Only 99 today if anyone else is interested. Stacey gets a lot of stick for her Insta family life but I have a soft spot for her (her home looks considerably better organised than mine).

StillUpholding · 18/08/2021 20:26

I can never decide if Stacey irritates me or I love her ED. Might get the book to help me decide.

You’re right Willow, it really doesn’t matter if it’s not all done. I always set myself these arbitrary deadlines for things and then panic, forgetting it was me who set them in the first place and no one else knows they have been set Grin. Hope the appointment with FIL goes better than you’re expecting.

I don’t think our families notice how well we look after their butts Sing Grin

I have to confess there was little in the way of proper flying done today. Other than 2 LOLs line dried I managed to s&s and keep on top of the dishes, plus semi-tidied DD’s room. A trip to the park and a game of shops kept DD happy (except when she insisted I was overcharging her for her shopping and could she please have it for less, despite the wadge of toy notes in her purse, because she has “two babies to look after” 😂)

However I did do some organising:
✅ all upcoming appointments and to do list into diary
✅ measured DD’s feet and ordered school shoes
✅ added some maternity clothes into online basket
✅ ordered a birthday present for a party DD has been invited to, and added paint, glue and some Christmas craft bits in order to get the free delivery.

StillUpholding · 18/08/2021 20:36

I did the skirting boards and bannister the other day too Honey. I’d also put it off for ages and it really does take no time and make such a difference doesn’t it!

flowerbus · 18/08/2021 20:37

Can I hop on please? DC3 will be arriving in September and we have a 3 year old and 1 year old so I need to get on top of my housework otherwise we’ll be living in an actual tip

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 18/08/2021 20:45

ED I have caved and bought the book too! For 99p, something which gives me warm fluffy organised feelings has to be good, right? Although I can't bear Stacey Solomon or her bestie, Mrs Hinch, in person on the TV. This probably says a lot more about me than them. (I don't watch TV in the day. It leads to Moral Turpitude, Impure Thoughts and Warts, you know 🤣. Well, that was the impression my Mum gave me!).

Sounds like things are ticking over nicely Up. How exciting to have Christmas crafts in your basket. I realised for the first time last year that if there were going to be such things in this house, I'd be doing them alone.

I have some actual Ta Das to report!
❤️ Henna bar soap and plastic free bath salts ordered for me
🧡 Photographs of the declining state of FIL's house found for DH
💛 Lunch with Mum (picnic in our room 😁)
💚 Train ticket booked for DS3 to spend a few days at the seaside with DM at the end of August
💙 DM and DBro invited to dinner on Sunday. DH will be cooking.
💜 DD helped to communicate with her new Head of Sixth Form about bridging work

I'm exhausted!

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 18/08/2021 20:46

Welcome @flowerbus, hop on! We can be a bit chatty, but we do get some flying done.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2021 20:48

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2021 21:46

Got sent home from work sick today. I request comfy cushions, and an exemption from flying. Just sleeping.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 18/08/2021 22:23

All exemptions granted, Hills.

SingToTheSky · 18/08/2021 23:13

hope you feel better soon 💐

I had a quietly productive morning, decluttering some more games and books. Then taught maths. Since then? Fuck all really. Just dabbled in hobbies which was nice and probably necessary in a spirit renewing sort of way. There is lots I should have been doing but oh well. I seem to get the mood dips at both the first (or rather the day before) and last days of my period so that is likely related. I really should try and remember that so I don’t end up feeling like a failure on those days!

Anyway I must do a few bits now.

po3.1
❗️Laundry in dryer
❗️Write small to do list for tomorrow morning (as I want to get the house a bit nicer for when mum is here) and another for things that I need to get in town
❗️Write up today and yesterday’s maths lessons

Hope you are feeling a bit better Hills maybe stay off tomorrow.

Willow a picnic with your mum sounds lovely.

Welcome flowerbus💐

Some interesting answers about items and emotional attachment. We haven’t moved for thirty years. Previous to buying this house I had never stayed anywhere for longer than four years in my life and that was from 14-18yrs. I would have happily lived there forever. I only had a tiny bedroom enough for bunk beds and a narrow bit with a chest of drawers and a narrow wardrobe it was mine though. I had posters on the walls. Possums used to climb up and down the tree just outside my window and I could sometimes see my horse in the paddock. We had about 3/4 an acre around the house and 2 1/2 acres of two paddocks with lots of trees. The neighbours were all lovely.

I carried on reorganising some of my aunts things. I emptied a Really Useful Box last week so I put lots in there. It has a lid and it fits under the small round table. It is much better in there as it will stay clean and no rodents will get in. I need to go through it all again but I have decided if I can buy another then I can keep it altogether in those two boxes. I am hoping I don’t here. I also was down cleaning skirting boards and I did the bannister too. I hope to get the rest done tomorrow it is a case of where shall I put it.

DH came home in the morning which I hadn’t expected so that threw me out of my plans. He helped me turn the mattress and make the bed which was great.

I also have my college and Uni stuff. I guess you don’t want to throw it out because it represents all the work you did in order to achieve what you did. It is on a shelf in the craft room so all together on one shelf.

Right time I went to sleep.

SingToTheSky · 19/08/2021 00:41

Didn’t do my list 😳 put the washing on again, and then started watching something with DD1 which was nice.

ta da
🤦🏻‍♀️Sorted and decluttered some more games - some to sell some dismantled for recycling
🤦🏻‍♀️Taught maths
🤦🏻‍♀️Played piano (and chose a few piano books to get rid of!)

Anyway should really try and sleep, as lots to do in the morning. Mainly tidying the living room, bathroom and landing so it’s a bit nicer for my mum. DD1 will tidy her room as mum will sleep in there. Then we are meeting in town for a little dance performance and I need to figure out what shopping to do - stuff for DD1 for school etc.

Flowerbus- welcome
Sing- lovely your mum is coming to stay over!
Hills- make sure you rest. Hope u are ok todsy? (Hug)
Zoo- i am sorry to hear your mum passed away when you were 17. Thats alot to take to run the house.(hug)
I never had coil fitted as I was too scared it might give me bad pms.

Up-great list! I will look out for the Stacey Solmon tidying book. I have got used to watching her on Loose women and quite like her now.
Willow- (Finally someone feels the same way about me about the Ms Hincch character- I cannot watch her or hear her speak (I have to mute the tv if I see her) as I cannot stand her voice. It goes right through me. Mixing cleaning products is dangerous- I know this first hand as I started cleaning the bathtub and sink aged 8. My mum showed me how to pour bleach and washing up liquid to scrub with a green brillo pad. I can still remember the burning feeling on my eyes and face of the toxic vapours. Sometimes I didnt open an window. My mum would come upstairs from cooking and go mad at me for not getting fresh air in and opening a window. Now I know, its very dangerous and never do it. I cleaned like that until was 19 and went off to uni. It wasn good.

Red- you are doing great by sorting your box. Your view from your old house sounds lovely!
Ed and honey- weldone wiping down your skirting boards. I have so much furniture I cant see most of mine.

Has anyone been to a waterpark before, and been on the tunnel slides with their children. I need to pm someone please.

Morning all

Catching up

Dancing i have been on one or two with dc (not in uk) and on a couple without dc in the uk, don't know if that'll help at all

Sing

Welcome flowerbus congrats on the baby, we had DC6 - 7 weeks ago. We also have a 1 and a 4 year old. The older three are aged 8-13. The chaos is real.

Hills hope you got a good rest and feel better

I cannot stand Stacey or Mrs H. They both seem really fake to me. Stacey's laugh makes me cringe and i wonder at what point she will stop plastering her kids all over the internet as her eldest dc is high school age now and i don't think its very fair.

Re skirting boards i saw something the other day which i think said if you wipe fabric softner on them it stops dust collecting. I havent tried it as i would have to clean them first Blush

Up your dd is a savy shopper!

THATmamaofMANY · 19/08/2021 07:42

Re the coil chat. Anyone know if they can fit one at the same time as doing a smear preferably non hormonal one?

Zoo sorry to see you lost your DM so young. I didn't really get shown how to do things around the house properly either. My DM did a disapearing act when i was in year 2 and was in and out of my life for brief periods after that but not really taking the role of a parent at all, until i went no contact coming up to 4 years ago now. Best thing i ever bloody did.

Re stuff i have been saving all of the dcs school books when they get sent home each year, this is going to REALLY add up and i know i need to do something different but i dont know what so for now i am carrying on

Mc3209 · 19/08/2021 08:07

that should be fine. They will take a smear first, then the coil. Previously they preferred to do it on first day of the period, but that's no longer a must.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 19/08/2021 08:13

It's a few years since I got my second coil (I need to get it removed at some point, its the hormonal one and will have run out by now) but I was told that not all GPs and practice nurses can do it because they have to have done some training, I had my first one done at the sexual health clinic on the advice of a GP friend (she said she was trained but hardly ever did them and if she was having one herself she'd rather have it fitted by someone who is doing them routinely). Maybe call the GP practice and ask, you would have thought that smear time was the perfect opportunity.

THATmamaofMANY · 19/08/2021 08:22

I have an appointment in a couple of weeks for babies jabs so i will ask then i think. Id really like not to have to put hormones in my body though

Time for DP to take charge of contraception maybe that ✂️😁

I’m so sleepy this morning I’m not even going to do a power of three yet. I’m just going to have meds/breakfast. 🤣

SingToTheSky · 19/08/2021 08:47

Right, feel more human now.
po3.1
❗️Put LOL in dryer and check if DD1’s shorts are in there, or possibly already clean
❗️Sort bath toys into new net bags
❗️Message pupils’ mum about new lesson time

Argh that’s a shame that it sucks that it’s usually the woman’s responsibility! I am relieved DH is willing to, he’d had the first appt about it but then covid happened. Should really get it sorted again but the poor sod is in so much pain already and having other procedures etc (next up, a camera shoved into his knees?!) I’m not keen to push more on him even if it is only a few days of soreness 😳

Ahem. Anyway. Must crack on with the day.

OP posts:
THATmamaofMANY · 19/08/2021 08:50

Well tbh if he did have it done DP would milk it to death, so would probably be more painful to me Hmm
