Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

The information i could find was that it only lowers it when drinking it. I could not find anything about raising it when hot, only that it would raise if you stopped drinking it. But that is fascinating information that i will add to my research. I have found that there are multiple varieties of edible hibiscus, but to be wary of the modern fancy varieties that are quantities unknown and may be unpredictable. This can happen and has been seen in courgettes. (ie massive seed recall due to a cross pollination situation which lead to toxicity levels being too high in a batch of seeds)

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2021 19:11

I have SOFT UNSCALY SKIN!!! Even my hooves, having been grated with ped egg, moisurized with vaseline and repeat scrubs are actually relatively soft

I have never know such levels of luxury since pre children

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/08/2021 20:07

That my dear is fabulous news and requires celebrating loudly. You got to do something to look after YOU, to make YOU feel better, to help YOU. this is worth celebrating loudly. cos goodness knows that you deserve it and more

foxessocks · 16/08/2021 20:22

zoo oh I so need to sort out my feet I get such dry skin, well done for doing it, it's so easy to put these things off! Great news 🙂

The herb stuff has gone way over my head too. My brain had to cope with learning new work stuff today so I can't cope with anything else! Still not that sure what I'm meant to be doing but I figured some of it out anyway. It wasn't the best day tbh, we have all been cross and grumpy with each other this afternoon, I'm tired, have had a headache a lot of the day. But there were positives too, the dc played with Duplo together for ages today, I thought they'd both completely moved onto Lego but they seemed to enjoy being able to make lots of big things really quickly and playing lots of big games with it, we had duplo superheros, Duplo farm and then a huge Duplo car. Ds has even asked for more Duplo for his birthday 🤷‍♀️
Also, they had the dentist and teeth are all fine. And dh bought biscuits home. And they did actually try the stuffed marrow bake I made for dinner (no they didn't like it that would be too much to ask for, I was happy that dh said he liked it tbh!!)

Dh has also made bread ready for tomorrow. I've put the washing on for the morning, dishwasher is on. The dc are in bed and so far quiet...

Redsquirrel5 · 16/08/2021 20:55

Willow hope they are looking after you.
Sing I was thinking what a long list.
Hills interesting about the herbs, I knew about St. John’s Wort.

DH has finished walking The Wainwright’s! He has just phoned me a little well oiled.

TheHoneyBadger · 16/08/2021 21:09

Red thank you you’ve reminded me I have washing to hang out on the stand! Good list there.

Zoo soft feet is luxury indeed!

I’ve not done much more than my in roads in the bathroom and bit more tidying in the kitchen and a lol. Going to do some hoovering tomorrow and try to do the first lightish clean in the lounge.

Main things that needs doing are the lounge (big job) and stairs, including grubby skirting and hand rail. Also to finish up in bathroom. If all that was done I would be out of chaos. I wouldn’t be proud for my house to be seen but it wouldn’t fill me with horror either.

Off to hang out lol before I forget.

Redsquirrel5 · 16/08/2021 21:11

⬆️ This week’s scary list. Have ditched some stuff that no longer seems like I can prioritise it, and tried to make some bits more achievable (eg book decluttering - I am not feeling capable of actually finishing it soon so I’ve changed it to just doing a bit)

We shall see. Hmm

Zoo- awww so cute 🐱
So glad you got a chance to pamper your skin! Bet its so soft! I feel like grabbing the olive oil bottle and sea salt too!

SingToTheSky · 17/08/2021 00:04

ta da
🍇activities with Cagletini
🍇assessed BP readings
🍇cancelled lessons and updated planner board
🍇a lot of lesson prep for the week
🍇finished binding of DS’/DH’s stuff
🍇laminated stuff (any excuse)

OP posts:
IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 17/08/2021 09:39

sing I'm getting s bit concerned about this laminating fetish of yours ...

So, here I am again. Feeling a bit of a fraud, no flying to report except using dry shampoo on my hair and three naps yesterday.

Can't hold personals in my head, either! Hope the return to school goes well for you Hope and MrsTidy.

Glad the Marrow Thing Recipe went well with DH at least, foxes and today goes a bit more smoothly. I was just reading again your end of day post about DH having made bread, washing and DW on for the morning, children in bed and quiet at least - there's something very special about that moment at the end of the day with smallish children!

Zoo how lovely that you were properly able to do something for yourself and feel lovely.

Honey a first light clean of the lounge sounds like a good plan. You can't do it all in one go!

Red hurrah for DH finishing the Wainwrights! What will he do now?

Hills I remember an issue with Poisonous Courgettes, I'd forgotten all about that. They are on my list of "only eat if really, really well cooked" so I have to be a bit careful around them.

🍒👋 to ED, Up, That, merryhouse, Yup, Mc, hope I have not missed anyone consistently, brain still won't go!

SingToTheSky · 17/08/2021 10:19

Willow 🤣 it’s ok, it’s not just me. DD1 informs me that one of the many reasons I should apparently be besties with her English teacher (whom she adores, so that’s a good sign…) is that said teacher also loves laminating 🤣

The comb binder is even cooler though. 😁😇

🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹

It’s Tuesday! And the start of term for some of our Scottish Mini-Fledglings. It is also planning day - get out those notebooks folks! Write lists that if you’re anything like me will soon be lost and forgotten about when something shiny comes along to distract you.

FLIGHTPLAN

Here are the missions. We’ve all been shining our sinks (well… maybe) so now it’s time to shine our baths and/or showers!

TheHoneyBadger · 17/08/2021 11:20

Morning.

I've had a S&S in kitchen (currently wanting to keep it looking clean and tidy - hope that lasts) and done a lol.

I didn't get round to vacuuming upstairs yesterday and it may be that cleaning my bath and getting that done plus stairs is enough for today. Trying to sort out an problem with my work pension account at the minute that is proving frustrating. I also must try and get rid of this armchair and I need to pick up my prescription.

Woke up at 4am after only 4 hrs sleep and feeling a bit low on energy and motivation at the minute. Willow - yes an all in one go first 'light' clean is probably the way to go but it will be tomorrow I think. I have a deadline because my friend is having my dog whilst I go away for an overnight and she is picking him and his stuff up first thing Thursday morning.

SingToTheSky · 17/08/2021 11:33

Right. Not feeling so rubbish today, mentally at least. So:

po3.2
❗️Ring doctors to report BP and book phone appt as requested by them
❗️Start looking up charities etc and making notes on possible jobs/volunteer roles to apply for
❗️Take some stuff upstairs to put away (will get DS to help carry it)

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 17/08/2021 12:54

I have a crap ton to do today. But i had a really crap night's sleep.

ta da
banking
pop into a wilko in that town
bump into a good friend for a fly by catch up

And now i need to put my to do list brain on so that i can get everything done that is needed to be done today. But i think first coffee and breakfast.

SingToTheSky · 17/08/2021 13:34

po3.3
❗️Room rescue living room
❗️Shower
❗️Teach maths (only half an hour and at my house so it’s manageable)

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 17/08/2021 15:31

Bathroom sorted. I just need to have a quick dig in the under the sink bathroom cabinet. It's still tidy-ish from the times I've done it last, so not anticipating huge overhauls there. Need to figure out what to do with all the maternity pads.. 🤔 and tampons.. 🤔 Courtesy of a hormonal coil I am hoping not to see a period for another 4-5 years. They should still be fine to use in 5 years' time, right?!

Mc3209 · 17/08/2021 15:35

I also need to decide what to do with all the McTiny's stuff he has grown out of.
I think I need to bite the bullet and sell/donate it. I find that emotionally hard for some reason. On the other hand, I can't keep all of his outgrown clothes.. (definitely keeping few of his newborn baby grows and vests!). I just need to rip the bandaid off and do it.
