Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

Well done! So pleased for you.

I’m watching in awe at how 3 men with the right tools can speedily achieve what was impossible to me. Hedges that had been neglected for years by landlord and previous tenants and barely kept on top of by me despite blood sweat and tears are sorted. Parts between my neighbour and I had become more tree than hedge.

They’re also clearing the wreckage of last tenants half arsed attempt at a big raised bed.

Feels good watching it get sorted and another weight off of me

halfhope · 12/08/2021 11:05

What a great day on the thread. Congrats to Hills Junior and that 🥳🥳🥳🥳

halfhope · 12/08/2021 11:05

And also to willow's dd 🥳🌷🌷🌷🌷🥳🥳

foxessocks · 12/08/2021 11:11

Congratulations to all the dc with results today and last few days!

And well done that brilliant news! Smile

I'm working today so I've only put the dishwasher on so far and got bits out of the freezer for dinner. Must get some washing done and I really need to clean my desk it's dusty 😬

THATmamaofMANY · 12/08/2021 11:12

Congrats to all 🍾

Mc3209 · 12/08/2021 11:32

That congratulations on your DipEH and GCSE maths! 🍾🍾 That's is a fantastic achievement!
Willow, Hills, big congratulations to your juniors! Whoop! 🎉🎉

Honey my DH insists on doing the hedges himself. Sometimes I wish we just threw a bit of money at the problem and let the gardener sort it out. We have a pretty tall hedge needing a ladder to trim the top. It always looks a bit wonky since DH started doing it 😬

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/08/2021 11:33

What a great pick me up,so many celebrations!
Willow nerves are a horrible thing, hope DD is ok
That with all going on at home, covid, extra babies you are a superstar smarty pants 🏅
Hills after all the stress of covid and aspire logic on exams that's a huge win.you must be so relieved

Tada
More laundry rotation
Walk to local chazzas.dd2 picked up a pair jeans,2pairs trousers and 3jumpers all in autumnal colours which suit her skin tone etc beautifully.trying them all on at home they fit nicely too,so that's a double win nothing to return/extra bad body image etc
Picked up sliced bread as forgot yesterday

A walk
Tidy up

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/08/2021 12:42

More good news!well done ed DD💞

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/08/2021 12:43

That should've been like a party popperConfused

THATmamaofMANY · 12/08/2021 13:06

Oh wow is that a full set of everyone with what they needed?!

foxessocks · 12/08/2021 13:25

How likely is it that all the school uniform will see out by early September?! I'm on such a tight budget this month so I'm thinking I'm going to have to risk it and wait until after end of this month pay day to order the kids stuff 😬 I think I might only need to buy trousers and shirts for ds.
Also need school shoes, originally planned to go next week mid week but again think I need to do it end of the month and may end up being a weekend, will everything be low stock and crazy queues by then?!

Last year it was just dd I was having to sort and she actually hadn't grown out of much so it was easy. I don't have much previous experience here!

foxessocks · 12/08/2021 13:25

*sell out

foxessocks · 12/08/2021 13:28

Ok just seen Clarks do indeed let you book slots for fitting...so maybe I should do that. I'm guessing Clarks don't sell out of all the school shoes 🤔🤔🤔😳

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/08/2021 13:30

High in my experience foxes it does depend on the sizes wanted but I have found tracking uniform down in the last week of August a nightmare and often impossible by beginning of Sept. Some sizes will sell out more than others. Uniform and shoes can be the same. I have played this game and won enough times that i know it is possible but it often means hunting about and travelling about with more stress.
Literally used to have to pick up uniform for ds in one of the towns i drove through for contact meetings because couldn't get locally.

THATmamaofMANY · 12/08/2021 13:48

Foxes clarks online do Klarna (pay over 3 months) if that is any help

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/08/2021 14:01

Foxesive had same experience as hills with uniform.one year every kid in our county seemed to be in dd2 shoe size...we ended up trying neighbouring county for some!boys primary trousers are currently plentiful on next(buy now pay later?)

foxessocks · 12/08/2021 16:04

Thanks everyone! That's what I thought. Thanks for the Clarks tip too that I didn't know about that I shall have a look.
Zoo of course, Next! I have an account with them so that's a great idea thank you 🙂

THATmamaofMANY · 12/08/2021 17:14

foxes they may also have an option to pay in 30 days but i'm not 100% on that!

TheHoneyBadger · 12/08/2021 19:53

I was going to hoover upstairs again but ds came home with what I assume to be a migraine. Gave him medicine and an eye mask then when he said he felt sick moved him to the cool bathroom floor with a pillow and a blanket which seemed to help (it's what I used to have to do with mine at his age as I'd get the full vomiting, vertigo, hellraiser experience then and it would go on for like 12 hours and eventually the worst would pass and I could go to bed and sleep). That seemed to help but after two hours I was desperate for the loo!

Guilty, I have gently persuaded him back to bed and recommended he sucks on a few digestive biscuits as he was saying his feeling sick seemed to turn to hunger and that he drinks plenty of water.

This is the first time it's happened in school holidays so I'm very inclined to believe he is actually having a spate of migraines, rather than school avoidance. Mine started at a similar age, his aren't the same as mine were but he says his eyes hurt, then he gets bad pain in one eye and one side of his face/head and then needs to lie down in the dark and quiet. Touch wood so far there's been no vomiting or aura or vertigo with them and they don't last too long.

Poor baby - still my baby when he's poorly despite being 14 and 5ft10.

Anyway that's my excuse for not having hoovered as I had planned and for why I can't put together the new bedframe in ds's room. Handy.

As ever I am saying, manyana!

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/08/2021 21:20

I think that is a good reason honey ds crashed after getting his results - was up most the night with stress. And didnt get up til tea. Which slowed any hope of motivation. But i have things that HAVE to be done tonight so i must go get on and do. So much easier now the temp has dropped. I really am a winter person.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/08/2021 21:25

Also migraines are the worst!

TheHoneyBadger · 12/08/2021 21:34

They are indeed - luckily he's pretty much fine now - touch wood he does seem to bounce back within a few hours.

I've gotten every bit of recycling out for the collection tomorrow - why is there always more and more? Fed the animals and looked around and realised that actually downstairs is not that far off from being tidy. Dirty but nearly tidy. Hoping to find the energy to tackle the kitchen properly tomorrow or to at least make some solid progress.

ExtremelyDisorganised · 12/08/2021 21:49

I have started my Christmas shopping

Kind of lazy day today, did a bit of kitchen organising, backed up photos off my phone but mostly I have sat around scrolling in. my phone.
