Action Stations for August! Fledglings Flap Frantically and Swish’n’Swipe through Summer

Welcome one and all!

I’m quickly setting up the August thread (ok seriously I know someone says this every month but HOW is it August already?!) - MN has been a bit iffy today, and I got rather distracted this evening which I fear may be a portent of my hosting skills this month. Thank you to the lovely ED for steering us through July despite much to manage at home 💐

Anyway - do join in as we loosely follow the Flylady system, in order to gradually sort our houses out. The key word here is GRADUALLY. There is no turning the house upside down and banishing chaos overnight, there is slow and steady. You are never behind. Miss a day? Week? Decade? No worries, jump back in, it’ll all come round again.

Newbies always welcome!

I’ve been embarrassingly lazy this morning. I’m not dressed and the place is a pit, but I’ve enjoyed catching up with the thread with tea.

I have managed a couple of ta das though:
✅ DD dressed and fed
✅ did energy supplier switch (prices seem to have gone up massively, to stay with my current supplier on another fixed contract was going to be an extra £400 a year! Shock.)
✅ made some notes for next week’s family party we are hosting.

Power of 3 kind of day I think:

  1. shower and get dressed
  2. last night’s dishes (sorry fly lady, I did not shine my sink)
  3. LOL on and sort the clean stuff

DH is meeting a friend this afternoon and DD wants to go to the funfair.

Dancing your brother is a legend.

Also struggling with attention span Honey. I’m full of good intentions and then I blink and it’s bed time. There’s still time to get organised, you can do it! Remember it’s not all or nothing, even if you’re only half way there before the return of school that’s still a big achievement and will make a huge difference.

Good luck to those waiting on exam results for DC, and I’ve got my fingers crossed for your maths That. Hope period pain has eased. 5 weeks seems really unfair to me, I got away with over a year if I remember rightly.

Sounds promising with the family therapy Zoo if you liked him straight away. Well done to DS on his loaf. Bet he was very proud of himself. Hope ‘D’P doesn’t let you down with shopping.

Mc that porridge sounds tasty.

Hope earache is improving Tidy

Rest of my personals have gone and I’ve written too much to scroll back. Please accept extra cheery 🍒👋 Willow, Sing, Red, Hills, ED, Hope, Foxes, Hazel, Merry, Yup, Peony, Floating. I think it’s time to make a start on the day.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/08/2021 13:57

Alas,I had text at time expected him he wasn't coming"wasn't up to it" apparentlyHmm
Cue trail local, more expensive shops with limited funds I had
Got few bits for today, but that leaves us less overall as today's money was spent on dearer things/less and now I need buy food at dearer shops tom
I need order my dress for the wedding tom,and I have been informed this afternoon lil zoo chose £25 shoes for school and at £20 skirt,so that's halved amount had to spend on food,so it's going to be major fun acquiring things everyone will eat on ridiculously tiny amount money at Waitroseor co op
Walked DD up to pharmacy to collect meds(went long way thru nature reserve so took couple hours)
Short nap(20mins timed by D's)
Sort him lunch from what had/acquired
Cooked oven chips, veggie sausages and last of broccoli for dd2 and I with left over reduced rolls D's had for his lunch

TheHoneyBadger · 07/08/2021 13:58

I did manage to get everything out and set off the flea bombs before the gym. Now home and I have thrown out the dogs soft bed, given him something soft to lie and put him in his crate having taken a tablet that is meant to kill any fleas on the animal.

If I want to make anything I've already done worthwhile I need to then, once he's clear of fleas, put him in my room and shut him in then treat the stairs and landing and the rug and sofa in the lounge. This is slightly complicated by the fact the cat has scarpered and she too needs a tablet plus my ds is coming home at some point and he'll need to be willing to shut himself in his room too.

Might be a case of wait for ds to come (expected about 3), get him shut in his room, entice the cat to come in then give her a pill and shut her in the kitchen, then dog in my room and have at it with the spray stuff I have. Tomorrow I'll do some spraying in my room to make sure all bedding and and carpet corners etc have defintely been hit.

Thank you and you're right Sing - even half done would be good progress and I think sometimes it's the idea that I won't be able to perfectly sort something that stops me sorting it at all.

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/08/2021 14:14

Good Morning.

All hell is breaking out here. The people are not very good at working as a team in a crisis. So tempers are frayed and it is not even really a crisis

ta da
iceland order
amazon order for a person
play hunt the thing that is hiding in plain sight
act as supervisory adult and send people to time out as needed
go through all the things for what is going on in person's bedroom
raid bookcase in person's bedroom - they had a book on the shelf that i have been looking for for a while!
deal with ds who has tech woes
prep my amazon order
hide away watching youtube videos as much as possible...
wonder how the hell the people have managed to get to old age successfully.
Appreciate ds' sense of humour until he broke out the 'dad' jokes.
Warn ds he is making the call to the tech company. watch the mini melt down as he processed this, despite the fact he agrees i have no frickin clue what the hell he is on about so he needs to speak to the tech guys.
seethe quietly about people who like to take the glaze off crockery when they eat.
Discuss what is for tea tonight
Consider getting dressed and remember i need to do laundry.
play hunt the laundry and get first load on to wash.
deal with ds who has opinions and has soaked up the earlier atmosphere so is challenging
swear a lot run a bath and go have hour soak whilst waiting for the dryer.

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/08/2021 14:15

Oh and i have now dispatched the people... thank fuck

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/08/2021 14:24

Going back to bed

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/08/2021 14:36

zoo

TheHoneyBadger · 07/08/2021 16:40

Sorry Zoo Sad Is she still at your daughter's house then?

I did more spraying in bedroom of bedding, pillows etc and then I've remade my bed, hoovered etc. Rest of plans a bit stilted because ds is still not back and the cat is still outside so poor dog is still in his crate in holding mode.

I hate fleas.

Just waiting on ds getting home and helping me get the cat in before I can move on.

I've also realised that I forgot I'd put a lol on yesterday so that is stinky in the washing machine but don't want to bringing more fabric into the world right now so will leave it in there and do it in the morning with plenty of added bicarb to try and have it not be stinky.

floatingon · 07/08/2021 17:00

Hi sorry for going AWOL, DD came down with a bug on Wednesday and we had to do a covid test which was awful with a toddler🙄. She’s on the mend now but I’ve done no cleaning or anything productive for the past few days, we’ve just been cooped up inside. I did manage to wash my hair though, which was a big achievement as it had been up in a bun for a week.

Haha, I’m glad you all had the same reactions to DH’s name ideas as I did😂. Thankfully I’ve managed to convince him that they’re awful!.

Hi peony welcome 👋🏻 I’m new here too😁

that I’m in awe of you! I’d love to have more DC but our home is so tiny that 2 really would be our limit, I’m not sure if I have the patience either😂

yup he really is a wind up merchant, my dad, uncle and grandad are the same. They’re an absolute nightmare when we have family get togethers🤣

willow congratulations on your boys’ moving into their new homes! 🏚

Sorry zoo💐

Good luck to everyone waiting for results!

Redsquirrel5 · 07/08/2021 17:37

Hi,
Well I have got some stuff done.

Ta da
Made bed.
Sorted magazine recipes, craft, garden and knitting patterns and put away into labelled boxes while DH went to shop.
Sorted a couple of baskets so one holds cleaning rags while other has stuff. Less now than before.
Swept kitchen floor.
Went to greenhouse and sorted plants, picked cherry toms, moved stuff, swept. Had a good hour listening to R4 while in there.

Still have ironing pile where is Ned andTed?

I was able to watch some jumping while sorting this morning.

ED glad you have Everhot on sshh! Don’t tell Hills but it makes wonderful quiches. No soggy bottoms.

foxessocks · 07/08/2021 18:12

Evening, sorry I've been so absent from the thread lately. Hope everyone is okay.

I'm place marking for now as realise I fell off the thread again but will try and pop back later x

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/08/2021 18:49

No soggy bottoms here red I blind bake and milk free pastry behaves differently anyway. Plus i might have my ear on a 7 ring gas hob with double oven professional cooker if I ever win that lottery...

SingToTheSky · 07/08/2021 18:52

Evening all! Sitting on a train, glad it’s not busy and I got a seat. Can’t be arsed to read atm so I’m just scrolling my phone! I did get lots of my assignment done in the morning though.

OP posts:
TheHoneyBadger · 07/08/2021 19:07

I will buy you that cooker if I win the lottery Hills I just want to buy a house outright and have enough money left in the bank not to have to stress about the future. 'Just' Hmm

Well done on assignment progress Sing

Waves and welcomes to newcomers - sorry I've been skimming recently and missed people arriving.

Eagerly awaiting takeaway here as the cat is shut in the kitchen. Dog is still in crate (but has been out for walks) and he's had a dose of flea drops to be doubly sure. Once we've eaten I'll walk the dog then put him in my room. Put sofa blankets and his bed blanket in the wash and then spray sofa, rug and stairs and landing once ds and I definitely have everything we'll need in our rooms for the night. Dog can sleep in with me and I will probably let the cat stay out for the night as she usually wants to but I rarely let her.

That's the plan. If I can actually eradicate the bloody fleas that will feel like a huge step forward. Are we in the kitchen or lounge for the next zone?

TheHoneyBadger · 07/08/2021 21:28

Tada! Flea mission is done - so hope this works.

I also rewashed yesterday's laundry and hung it out so I could put blankets etc in the washing machine and seal it ready to turn on tomorrow. I think I've gotten all carpets and soft furnishings so everything crossed for the end of the reign of the fleas.

I looked and zone 2 is kitchen which most definitely needs my attention.

Sleep well all in this hemisphere and good morning to those on the other side.

SingToTheSky · 07/08/2021 21:51

Evening all,

I've been out most of today, but DH has done a bit more in the kitchen, cleaned out the new cupboards, put some stuff in them (most of it is still in storage either at his work or in our shed) and he has assembled the rest of the stools I bought in Ikea yesterday. Tomorrow needs to be a major laundry day.

Mc3209 · 07/08/2021 21:56

Dancing the recipe is as follows: 1 cup of rolled oats, 2 cups of milk/dairy free substitute, 3 carrots (I've used 1.5 huge ones) finely grated, 1tsp ground cinnamon, squirt of maple syrup (optional).
Carrots and oats together over a medium heat, then milk, then cinnamon and maple syrup if using. Keep stirring until desired consistency.

Haven't really done any real cleaning, just kept putting out hotspots and doing LOLs. Oh, and I've cleaned the washing machine (well..it cleaned itself).

Dancingtomusic · 07/08/2021 22:26

Mc- thank you for the recipe i will try it tomo for breakfast.

Zoo- sending you a big hug!

Up- rest while you need it. You will catch up on it when u get ur energy bursts

Dbro came round today -helped wipe dust from ds room and wiped every slat of my white wooden blind and double glazing frame.
I damp dusted the tops of cupboards, door frames, picture frames.
Lolx3 dried and put away.
I wanted to stop.
Dbro says he is going to help do every room in the house....(eek) i am very grateful. Did tesco shop with kids. Dh out of it on pain meds.
Dbro is a superbro.

Tomo
I need to damp dust dd room.

Redsquirrel5 · 07/08/2021 22:56

🥇🏅for your brother Dancing he is a star!

I haven’t done much more. Loaded dishwasher. We had kebabs - steak and prawn with cous cous.
Water the greenhouse plants. The garden doesn’t need it as lots of showers today.
Anyone watch Casualty that was a surprise.

The kitchen is good I can finish the dining room next week then as the kitchen is fairly clean and tidy.

Moving.

SingToTheSky · 08/08/2021 00:20

Sigh. So much for an early night. DD1 up with anxiety again.

Must finish my scary to do list tomorrow (today 😬😭). I’ve got most items for my next one to start on Monday.

Morning all, here we are on Sunday… for flylady that means a new zone. It’s now Zone 2 - the kitchen. No missions though since it’s Sunday, your task is to renew your spirit as per the daily focus!

But for those who do want to get stuck in, here is the flightplan

Moods fell thru floor
Exhausted, unmotivated, tearful, everything hurts, even breathing feels like an effort

I am not able to wallow like this

I need accountable- hence posting here
Have written list based on what need for next two days on minimum budget when supplies are run out,so

To do
*Shop- this going to require two trips to maximize cheapest items from each

  • I AM going to eat properly today *I AM going to spend time D's and DD having fun *I AM going to have a shower later and do something to show kindness to myself

This feels massive and like climbing a mountain, but I've said it now so have to do it

SingToTheSky · 08/08/2021 08:59

Oh zoo :( I’m sorry you feel so rubbish.

Please put YOU first. And I know it’s good to spend nice quality time with the zoolets but maybe if they’re choosing an activity like a game or binge watching a show with you, that could be dependent on them helping out FIRST? Could they have a few simple tasks to do before they have that time? DD2 could sort your dinner tonight, they can sort laundry, anything that needs doing.

You’ve done brilliantly so far with getting them more independent (the change in DS is amazing!) - keep it up, they are capable of looking after you a fraction of the amount you look after them singlehandedly.
